Ok, This seems like such a obvious thing to do that there must be a reason it hasn't been done yet.
The idea, the galaxy s i9000 has a thin plastic back cover, which wouldn't interfere with an induction charging mod. So why hasn't one been done yet?
secondary question:
via induction charging; Is it possible to charge directly to the battery connectors? or does the charge need to go through the USB port to work? I think it's a bit ugly having wires protruding out that then need to connect to a usb head and then plug into the phone... I imagine that the battery may still charge with a direct charge to the battery, but the software may not control it. (i.e. no awareness that the phone is on charge)
What do you guys think?
Cheers,
Evan

Possible? Yes. Safe? No.
Direct connection to the battery will probably overcharge the battery.

Palm Pre has it, and there was a mod for an Evo 4G using the Palm Pre coil; so a mod is perhaps technically possible. But I wouldn’t mess around with it. Inductive charging is inefficient add produces more heat compared to normal charging. Galaxy S heats up while charging even the normal way, I don’t want to make it worse.
As for charging methods, generally speaking, I much prefer open charging contacts with a desktop cradle like design (like used in home cordless phones) over inductive charging.
wouldn't necessarily overcharge if a charge controller was in place. (direct connection to battery)
Palm Pre mod here

Although no sign of him since the mod, which is a little worrying

Still here , and Phone including the mod are still working.
I'm quite satisfied with the mod, the only real flaw is that the compass is practically unuseable (but I never really used the compass, so i don't care)
And I does charge a little slower , the back (were the coil is sitting) gets warm after sometime , but nothing to worry about (maybe 38°C).
I would not recommend to charge the battery directly the 5V that the coil "produces" may not only overcharge the battery but may also destroy parts of the phone.
I connected the wires to the usb-port (Internally), so its like you are charging over the usb port, so there's no risk of overcharging.
Any details on how you did that? from the other thread it looks like you have one wire running off to a screw (ground point?) and another directly to the battery.
take a look at this:
well thats awsome although im a bit worried about messing with my phone
http://www.qianqin.de/2011/09/18/samsung-galaxy-s-wireless-inductive-charging-mod/
He's already ordered parts for making a fully invisible inductive charging mod (with the MicroUSB slot being completely free) so check the website in about a week or two.
can't get hold of a palm pre back... so need to make our own coil. But what length does the coil need to be?
This is all very impressive. But induction charging seems pretty useless since you can't really use the phone while charging.

music? remote desktop? while sleeping? tap with it on the stand anyway? attach a magnet?
So, I picked up a touchstone charger to go with my touchpad. I also have the phone touchstone charger modded to work with my Incredible. I'm curious to know if the the touchstone for the touchpad uses the same induction pieces as in the phone<->touchstone charger (phone end specifically). I would like to charge my kindle with the touchstone charger, but do not want test with either my phone or the kindle. If this is the case, the touchpad charger could be made quite useful to many things. Thanks.
I'm not sure how realistic it is, but this article was just on Engadget....
http://www.engadget.com/2011/09/19/touchstone-mod-blesses-samsung-epic-4g-touch-with-inductive-char/
Ah yes. I've done this for my phone. My question is, will the touchpad version work with the same part that goes into the phone for the kindle? Something tells me the amperage is going to be higher in the touchpad version, thus killing the 1.0a for charging phones or the kindle.
i have a powermat inductive charging pad with a door for my old dx. i tried the charger with my tp but it doesnt work. I dont think there is a difference between that and the powermat
hi because I wanted to use all web os on my touchpad I decided to buy the pre 3 there is a different dock to buy , and if I look at the back of the pre 3 there's like a cell that revives power from the touchstone and then charges the battery if this even helps think there will need to build in a reciver like in the pre3 to then send power to the battery and like on the power mat they also have case that revives power for the iphone 3
dunno if this helps anyone
Sorry if this has already been posted. I have the Note 4 and I am new to wireless charging. I wanted a car solution that's completely wireless (ie charging and audio). I've been looking at The Air Dock but I'm still not sure if that will be the best solution. Does anyone have any experience with that?
Also, I'm thinking that I will go with an internal receiver but I just read that there are 1mm thick ones and 0.5mm thick ones. Guess I should try to get a 0.5mm thick receiver? What is the max current that I can get with these coils? Is it enough to charge the phone while running Google Maps, Pandora, bluetooth, etc?
I will probably want a case as well. What do I need to know so that it will work with a wireless charger? I saw some car chargers that have you put a slim metal plate in your case so that magnets can hold onto the phone, which I like. Should I look for something like this? Will that also work with The Air Dock?
Sorry about all the questions! I'm just trying to make sure I get the best dock for my phone.

Just a suggestion, wireless charging is not capable of taking advantage of the Quick Charge 2.0 feature and to my way of thinking the car would be the place you'd want the fast charging. I got an Incipio Quick Charge 2.0 12v adapter for my car.

Thanks for the suggestion but I was wondering if it was possible to wireless charge and still run all these apps. I understand it won't be a quick charge or anything but as long as the charge is enough to keep the battery at neutral or positive charge then that's fine. I would assume the answer is yes

With my Note 3, a 2 amp wired charger was barely able to charge with Google Navigation running. I think you would lose charge doing the same thing with a wireless charger.

Dang I was worried about that. So what is the max current that wireless coils can do? Is it 1 amp?

Agreed. Current wireless charging probably wouldn't be able to keep up with the high battery demands of navigation, streaming music, Bluetooth, and the screen.
Trouble with Note 4
So I got my new Air Dock 2.0 in and I'm having trouble with getting the Note 4 to stick with this case even though it's glossy. Also, (and I knew this would be an issue, ugh!) the wireless adapter inside the phone isn't CENTERED in the phone so of course it won't wireless charge when the phone is CENTERED on the Air Dock!! This makes me so mad! The damn adapters should be centered so any dock will work once the phone is centered...
Lastly, does anybody have any apps that will automatically launch once connected to the Air Dock??

Tasker can do this.
Ok but how can I trigger it in the car? If I use wireless triggers won't it also trigger it when I get home and charge my phone on my wireless charger?

I am looking for something fairly specific: a magnetic/sticky cd slot mount with wireless charging. Does anyone know if they exist and if so any recommendations?

are you using it with the samsung wireless charging back? if so, any chance of some pics? also, are you using the nano-foam or magnets and for either, how "grippy" is it? the roads around me are full of potholes so cant have my note 4 flying off.
Ugh so I'm frustrated with the Air Dock. It's GREAT with my Nexus 5...it seems to be designed especially for that. My wife's Note 4? Not so much. I bought the wireless adapter that you put in the back of the phone to activate wireless charging but it takes all of 1 second to realize the coil inside that adapter is not centered with the phone. It's directly over the battery which is offset. So when the phone is put on the Air Dock it needs to be slightly off of the Air Dock to get a good charge going. Well this means there's less contact between the phone and Air Dock. The other thing I noticed is the case on the phone matters as well. Originally I had a softer, flat case on the phone which worked okay with the Air Dock but then that got dirty so my wife got a more glossy one that has a slight curve in the back. I think this may actually be caused a little by the wireless adapter protruding in the back. It's a very tight case so it's more noticeable. I can provide links to the cases if you want. I emailed the Air Dock with a picture of the phone's wireless adapter but they just said to try to use the magnetic sticker included and keep it clean. The magnetic sticker doesn't do much, especially for a big phone like the Note 4. I'm tempted to actually cut a really thin sheet of metal and stick it back there instead. Sorry this is long but I'm frustrated and ended up buying the iBolt dock for my wife which is fine but I really wanted to use the Air Dock. It's a great concept it's just not the best design. I even had my friend 3D print a sort of dock and then stuffed those super powerful magnets in it and it sort of worked but then it blocked the charging too much. Ugh
I found this when looking for QI receivers for my XT1092, and it appears to be designed for internal mounting!?
http://www.aliexpress.com/snapshot/6698695850.html?orderId=67539862048322
Has anyone else seen this, and does anyone, who has actually torn their phone down, think there's a free slot for this anywher?
I assume that it requires some form of modding to the battery mount, as that's the only area where you could potentially get a fraction of a millimeter to use.
Very cool find! The pattern of it looks correct to work and I do believe there may just be a spot to connect it. I just assembled a Moto X the other day. I have some pieces and will look tonight.

I was looking at a teardown video for the Moto X 2014, and this just looks like the NFC coil. Besides, I don't think NFC and wireless charging can share the same two contacts. I am pretty sure you would need a pair of contacts for the NFC coil and another pair for the inductive coil.
Edit: Or you would need atleast a chip onboard that can route all that current when charging to the charging circuitry and not fry the NFC hardware, and use it as a transceiver for NFC while not charging. I don't know if they even do things like that.

I took a detailed look this evening and I can confirm that is the NFC coil, so the dream of Qi continues to elude us.

From my own experience it's a pretty sh*tt* thing, doesn't have the power efficiency it should.

That sucks I like wireless since by the time I'm half way through the device life I need to replace the charge port. The joy of children lol
Is there anyone interested in experimenting a wireless charging mod? Normally there would not be enough room to put a DIY module in recent phones. But it seems there is some space in this phone between the batteries after I watched a disassembly video . Post your thoughts please

You need about 2 square inches to make a decent wireless charger... I'd rather wait for a modded case that lets the NFC work and logo as well. Mostly pointless with a fast-charger, but eh.
75W (or whatever it is) hyper charging, a 6000mAh battery, and a phone that gets hot enough to justify making and sometimes including an external fan seems like a decent reason to not want 15W (at most) charging that will take like 10 hours and generate a lot of heat. It's unlikely many people will have enough interest to investigate the possibility.
