This is weird. About 10 minutes ago, the car home on my phone suddenly launched. The phone was in car dock mode, and would not leave. I rebooted, and immediately upon startup, the phone went into desk dock mode, landscaped, and would not leave it. I immediately went into Titanium and backed everything up, turned off the phone.
The phone will not recognize USB at all. It will charge through USB, but it will not connect via USB...not to the sdcard, and not even through download mode.
Does anyone have any idea what is going on here? The phone is unusable in this state.

I am no expert on this subject but it sounds like there might be a short in the usb contacts. Try turning the phone off and cleaning the contacts with an electronics safe cleaner.

Yea. That's what I'm leaning toward too. This morning, it started switching in and out randomly. When it was in dock mode, it wouldn't come out. When it was not in dock mode, it wouldn't go in. While I was driving back from lunch, it suddenly started working correctly, and went in and out of car mode perfectly fine. I can't test the USB connectivity right now, but I will after work. I didn't have a chance to clean it last night, but I will after work today as well.
I'll keep this thread updated with what I find.

Almost certainly USB related. It cleared up again yesterday randomly when I cycled a USB cable in and out a couple of times.

When my phone is connected via USB to my computer for charging purposes my touch screen goes all out of wack. Here's a way to test if it happens to your charge.
1. Connect USB to computer
2. Go to empty home screen (#5 for me)
3. Long press and choose widgets
(This is difficult to do at times with touch screen going nuts)
4. Choose any widget
5. Then long press on widget to move around screen, but just hold it in place. Is it jumping all around the screen, even though your not moving it? Mine does, but when I disconnected from computer it doesn't do this. Wall charger doesn't do this as well. Just got my phone a week ago, might exchange it at Best Buy unless this is normal. Any advice?

Sounds like a voltage issue with your USB port. Have you tried replicating the issue on another computer? I just tried it now on my laptop and it didn't do it. Then again, I'm running the latest gingerbread release. Not sure what you're using.
is your mass storage option on? sometimes the widgets act weird because they are on the sd card.
It does it both with mass storage on and off. I'm currently fully stock, I'm going to try it on my pc, then I'll try a new USB cord as well. Thanks for your help guys.

The same thing happens to me! It used to happen with my Fascinate too... now I just use a wall charger.

This used to happen on my OG Droid. I never found out what it was but it would happen randomly.

So my infuse's bottom touch screen buttons, (search, home, back, and menu/settings) stopped working randomly, it was just a matter of me checking my phone for texts while walking around and the buttons were dim, so I restarted the phone 4-5 times to try and fix it, but nothing helped it.
So I put the phone in download mode and tried to get it back to stock using odin. But it froze at cache.rfs for half an hour so I disconnected it. I got the phone ! pc screen from this point on and my phone was still being recognized by my computer at this point as well. I called it a night and left it plugged into my computer until the next day, I tried a different USB port in the morning after I installed samsung mini kies for drivers (even though it was already recognized) and tried using odin again. Again, it froze at cache.rfs so I unplugged my phone and now I can't even turn it on to get to the phone ! pc screen. When I hold down the power button now though, even with my phone charging, nothing happens. I tried power button + volume button too, and nothing happened. It can't even be recognized by any of my computers either. What do I do now? I have warranty on it through AT&T but I'm not sure what their terms are flashing and stuff. (Luckily I did a backup on my phone before flashing )
I had similar problems with Odin freezing at cache.rfs. I tried three USB calls and they all did the same thing. I then tried another USB cable at my work and it flashed the uclb3 unbrick like a champ. My guess for your situation would be a bad USB, try another. Hope that helps

Ok, it's plugged into another USB port but again, it doesn't even turn on to show me the phone ! pc screen. I do notice that when I hold down power, for a split second after a few moments of holding down the button, there is a flash coming from the right side of the screen. Until I can get it recognized on my computer I think I'm at a loss.
Sounds like the battery is out of juice. You'll need to charge it or put a new battery in before you can get back to download mode.

Wouldn't you agree though that I should be able to boot up with it plugged into a charger?
update:
almost 12 hours later of charging my infuse with various chargers and cords, I still can't even get a samsung logo. Just a black screen with the occasional white blip on the right side while I hold down the power button. Looks like I"m without a phone for the time being. I have insurance on it so I"ll take it to the AT&T store asap. If worse comes to worse, I might buy a galaxy nexus hehe

Not if its bricked...its the kernel that allows the phone to charge when its off...so you'll either have to try a battery only charger (whereyou take out the battery and put it in a square charger thing...one that doesn't charge it through the phone/USB) or just buy or borrow a new battery
And when a phone dies you have to plug it in and let it sit for a little while before you van turn it on again

Ahhhhh, thank you for that good bit of info. I never thought that the power to the battery was governed by the phones kernel. Do you know where I could buy one of these chargers? After posting this I'll do a google search myself, but just in case.
Thanks very much.
Edit:
Ok, so after I get some juice into my battery I should just try all unbricking steps again?

Damn, I ordered a wall charger online for $10 and the shipping time is a week max. I'm crossing my fingers for a quick delivery.
I know a decent amount about rooting and roms, but I have an issue I haven't been able to figure out yet. My GTP3113 died last night, I plugged it into a couple different wall sockets because when I plug in the device it automatically turns on to the charging screen like it should, but after a few seconds the device automatically reboots back to the charging screen. My guess is that it doesn't have enough to time to charge before it reboots (which uses the small charge it got in that few seconds).
I had just flashed the\ 4.1 leak from samsung, the device rebooted fine after the flash at least once, problem didn't start until the battery died.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated...
Stupid question but have you let it charge over night ? I've had issues like that before and an over night charge sorted the problem out. Hopefully that will work or at least let you get into recovery.
Hope it helps and good luck !
Try plugging it into your computer or somewhere else with a usb slot and let it charge a bit. For whatever reason, some peoples galaxy tab 2's won't charge unless they are plugged into a via USB.

thanks
Thanks for your suggestions. I had tried both of them at some point. What ended up working was timing it exactly right to get to recovery, from there it accepted a charge and I was able to clean flash a rom to get it working again. It was odd. Thanks again.

I'd like to know your method as well. I'm having the same issue. I don't know about you guys but before this happened I disabled some of the stock programs like the screensaver and samsung store apps. I'm guessing this is what caused the corruption.

We are having the same problem with one of the tablets we use for Android development.
The working tablet was left plugged into a powered down computer over a long weekend, and has exhibited this same behavior ever since I came back from holiday:

We've tried plugging it in using several different combinations of cables/adapters/computers without success. The hard reset, holding power & volume up, has no effect (probably because it doesn't have enough charge).
Current suggestions around the office include putting it in the microwave on high for a few minutes or taking it out behind the office and using a gun to put it out of our misery... any less extreme suggestions?
Starting yesterday my phone boots up in Car Mode- every time. Rebooted at least 10 times, battery pull etc. Won't stop. I've never seen car mode before. Same if plugged in or not. Also at the same time the screen now rotates when auto-rotation is turned off. Checked settings in Go Launcher etc. Can't figure it out! I'm up for early upgrade and can go get a Note 2 today but am hoping this thing will make it until the S4 is out! Phone is stock- the only reason i ask questions here is that i know you guys know your stuff and i might get a fix!
And speakerphone is on by default now when taking a call.

could be the car mode app - some setting in it is telling it to launch at startup. I would try to either clear defaults for that app or download another app that enables car mode (like vlingo), and see if you can force it to ask you upon startup.
regarding the rotation - you might need to uninstall and re-install GO.
My Charge did that once. It was a bad USB port. It sucked because it also kept the USB port from being used for anything other than charging...it would not recognize it as USB.

Bad usb port. I took a tiny screwdriver and bent the the little metal plug up inside the phone. Now it functions right. Can upgrade now but patiently waiting for S4.

Suddenly I'm having charging problems. It's not the cord going bad. It's actually the part that plugs in. If I wiggle it one direction it loses connection.. It also won't fast charge anymore. The other day I'd plug it in and it would say dock connected instead of charging... There's a possibility water or condensation got into the charging port on my phone but I'm not sure. Any ideas on how to fix?

I just started having the same problem a couple weeks ago, it's super finicky now. I was rooted on 5.02 and tried to fix it doing everything I could think of. Finally, ended up using the verizon software utility thinking maybe that could do something since even with my phone powered off, the phone would see the cable plugged in for a second but then would disconnect from it. Everything up to that point seemed to be a hardware issue to me but this seemed to be software or something else and was the reason I chose to use the verizon software. Anyway, using their support software only removed my root and brought me up to marshmallow and that didn't fix anything.
I've done tons of things and nothing has helped. I've just settled on the fact that something hardware has happened even though this began in the middle of the night while the phone was on the charger and untouched. I just ended up going through all my usb cables and found some that work better than others. Some fast charge sometimes others never do. I figure I'll just live with it until I get the S7 or htc 10 or something else.
It's a total mystery to me though as to what happened. The phone wasn't dropped or anything around the time it began doing this, just seemingly came out of nowhere. I do miss not having this problem!
Well, it's weird because if I plug it in and push the charger thing upwards it switches to fast charging.. I guess I'm gonna go buy another USB cable and see if it's the problem. No way am I going through another factory reset too much stuff on my phone.

I wouldn't, didn't do anything for me.
With your phone off, what does the charging do? Every single one of my cables would show that they were plugged in and charging , even the ones that weren't doing anything at all when plugged in to the phone while the phone was booted up, but then immediately would disconnect.
Sometimes you can get dust or lint in the charging port. Turn the off, no power an gently use a needle to try to clean the port.
Hope this helps.

There's also the wireless charging option in the meantime if truly a hardware defect.
