After I have tried a lot of ROMs for the HTC Desire, and each one of them was perfect in another way, there was one kind of ROM I couldn't find: a ROM which is as small as possible, with Sense, and Gingerbread, and as clean as possible.
First of all: I am not an experienced developer, such as LeeDroid, or Coolexe (by the way, thanks a lot guys, loved your ROMs, and used each one of them without any issues, so kudos for your hard work!).
I'm just a 15-year old boy, who wanted to create a ROM which is as small as possible, but keeping Sense. If you have things to say like 'Loser, why would I flash this ROM, there are dozens of other ROMs', don't say anything at all.
However, if you have tips, questions, or think you can help me with this ROM, don't hesitate, and feel free to post!
About this ROM:
-Based on Gingerbread RUU from HTC for HTC Desire (Bravo)
-Bananacakes awesome new kernel (0.4), build by Sibere (0.4a), running on 1GHz, OC'able to 1.2.
-Su + Superuser + Busybox included
-Optional A2SD
-Removed a lot of stuff, resulting this ROM to be less than 120MB in size!
-Kept Sense, but some apps are removed (such as Stocks, Footprints, and Facebook, which you can download from the market anyway)
-Works on Stock HBOOT, and it should also work on Data++ or Bravo Sense (please post your experience with these 2 HBOOTs)
So, if you are looking for a lightweight version of Sense and Gingerbread, this is the ROM you're looking for. It may contain bugs, and I can not be held responsible for any damage. If you tell me about the bugs, I could try to fix them, but don't think I'm an expert with Android development, but I'll see what I can do.
To do:
-TrackballWake
-Perhaps create a special update.zip for some popular apps (filemanager, terminal, DSPManager)
-Fix the bootanimation (just a black screen at the moment, trying to find out how to fix it), the ROM boots just fine though
Removed:
-Apps you can install from the market (Facebook, Gmail, Flash, Flickr)
-Apps which have better alternatives (HTC Twitter)
-Apps which bugs a lot of users, even when they're not being used (HTC Stocks)
-Apps I simply don't like or use (Friendstream, Footprints)
-Apps of which I can't even come up with a reason why they would be installed by default (Polaris Office, if I'm right about the name)
-Live wallpapers which are pretty useless in my opinion (Smoke Wallpaper, Music Visualizations)
-HTC Sense Live Wallpaper, and the normal wallpaper is replaced
-Almost all ringtone/notification sounds, except for one in each category (the default ones)
Without further ado, here are the downloads:
Click here for the Non-A2SD build (version 1.5)
HBOOTs with 5MB cache won't work! Stock HBOOT or Bravo Sense HBOOTs will work fine, since they have a bigger cache (thanks Ronijs19!) For cMTD users: /system is 163MB in this build.
Click here for the A2SD build (version 1.5)
After you have installed the A2SD build, download a terminal emulator from the market and execute the following commands:
su
a2sd cachesd
Click to collapse
Your apps and the Dalvik Cache will be stored on EXT from now on.
Changelog:
1.5
-Updated kernel to 0.5 by Bananacakes
-Restored original framework (= original skin)
-Restored fonts (Ubuntu fonts took more space...)
1.4
New build of Bananacakes kernel, by Sibere, running on 1GHz, OC'able to 1,2.
Bootanimation is either ANDROID now, or still a black screen, bit confused about that due to a lot of builds..
New font, Ubuntu.
Also removed alarm and notifications tones except the default ones.
1.3
-Removed LiveWallpapers (every LWP except HTC Sense)
-Removed Mode10Wallpapers (the HTC Sense LWP)
-Replaced dock (used the one from the Slate theme for Sense 2.1)
-Replaced the default Sense wallpaper for a custom one
-ROMs will be uploaded onto our own server from now on, which means: no waiting, and direct links (thanks DonUber!)
1.2
-Removed FriendStream (Twitter and Facebook were removed anyway, so Friendstream was unusable)
-Removed all ringtones except for 1 (saved about 2MB)
-Swapped the ucsh00d_c.ttf font for DroidSans.ttf, saving about 3.5MB
-Swapped the gcsh00d-hkscs.ttf font for DroidSans.ttf, saving about 1MB
-Removed some images in /media/resources, saved about 500KB, since the images are never used in Android anyway, AFAIK
-Modified updater-script with some ui_prints to inform about the progress
-Bananacakes new kernel (0.4) implemented
-Two versions from now on: with A2SD, and without A2SD. In the version without A2SD, you can insert any A2SD script you would like (both versions have init.d support). Recommended HBOOTs are Stock or Data++ or Bravo Sense. I have only tested Stock though, so if you use another HBOOT, please post your results.
1.1
-Init.d Script Support
-A2SD (Darktremor Script) installed by default, should be working

Thanks to:
-DonUber, a good friend IRL, who always gives me tips and ideas for improving the ROM, thanks a lot mate!
-Koush, for his Anykernel Updater!
-Bananacakes, for his awesome kernel!
-Ronijs19, for tips and testing different HBOOTs.
-You, and every other user who uses this ROM!
Enjoy, and don't hesitate to ask questions or report bugs!
If you like my ROM, and you don't have a DropBox account yet, consider creating one by using my referral link, giving both of us an additional 250MB: Click here!

This is the theme that is being used in Flux 1.3 and higher. If you download Flux 1.2, you won't have this skin!

Thx dude, gonna try it.
Which base did you use? Stock Sense GB Rom?
(what? I'm the first one? Yupiiiii)

Yes, this ROM is based on the RUU, released by HTC on HTCdev.com. It is an official Gingerbread, which was a bit slimmed down by HTC, and I removed even more bloatware.
EDIT: I'm trying another way to get A2SD working, give me half an hour
EDIT2: A2SD working, get 1.1 now from the first post! Wipe recommended.

Nice, i have removed friend stream widget (hate it).

If more people want to see other widgets/apps removed, I could make a list, and also remove that apps if there are enough people who would like to remove it. Aside from that, I'll also make a script soon which allows you to remove even more apps.
Thanks for your response!

Hello.
Always nice to see both new developers in here, and continued ROM development for the Desire.
May I ask, are there any benefits to this ROM for someone like me who hasn't S-Off'd and just has the stock partition?

Dude, can you upload some screen-shots of this ROM? how about performance and battery consumption?

If you don't have S-OFF, this ROM is perfect for you, if you want your phone to be as clean as possible, and need space for apps. This ROM uses A2SD by default, and in combination with a 512MB/1024MB EXT-partition, you don't have to worry anymore about the space for apps (a Desire without A2SD has only 137MB on NAND for apps).
Aside from that, this ROM is smaller than an original one. The GingerBread RUU by HTC was already slimmed down, and was 150MB. I removed even more bloatware, or unnecessary apps (such as HTC Stocks, which keeps running and bugs a lot of users), resulting in a ROM which is only 120MB. Even CyanogenMod is 90MB, so this ROM is really lightweight, since it has only approx. 30MB difference with an AOSP ROM.
In other words: no tweaks and modifications, just a ROM meant to be as stable and fast as possible, and without the bunch of apps most of the users won't use anyway, or they have alternative apps.

The skin is the same as a normal Sense ROM for the Desire (so it's just as the stock ROM). The performance is really good, I haven't noticed any lag or anything like that yet, and it is running pretty stable until now.
I'll post tomorrow evening about the battery consumption, as the most recent build I made was about 2 hours ago, so I couldn't really test it yet.
I will make a skin though, and I hope to finish it in about a week.

Ok thanks....
So after boot and A2SD+ initiates, how much memory would I have free?

After you have installed the ROM, and have an EXT-partition, all your apps which you install will be placed on the EXT-partition. This means the available space is the same as the size of the EXT-partition.
My Desire said I had 80MB free after a flash, because the Dalvik Cache is still on the NAND of the phone. I also moved that to the EXT by installing a Terminal Emulator, and executing the commands:
su
a2sd cachesd
Click to collapse
After which your phone will reboot. No matter how much apps you install now, your phone will always say you have 137MB available, because everything is being stored on the EXT-partition on your SD-card.
To use A2SD:
Boot in recovery, and partition your SD-card with an EXT-partition (512MB or 1024MB should be enough). Keep in mind partitioning removes all your data and formats your SD-card. Then copy the ROM ZIP to the root of the SD by using the USB Storage Function in recovery, and install it by using recovery. Then reboot, and A2SD will be enabled and your phone will boot in less than 5 minutes (only the first time, after the first boot it will startup much faster). During boot you'll get a black screen, it is completely normal. To use the EXT-partition for Dalvik Cache also, use the 2 commands I mentioned earlier in this post, and you should be ready

I appreciate the efforts, but I am actually very experienced in that sense. I know perfectly well the A2SD commands and how it works All I wanted to know was the 137mb figure
PS: It isn't correct to say "No matter how much apps you install now, your phone will always say you have 137MB available". The memory will still go down even with A2SD+ installed and davlik cache to sd. It just doesn't go down as much.

Hi Chaos,
Why not just use a2sd script from Oxygen rom? I'm using it on all roms including CM7, MIUI. Leaving dalvik cache on nand with cm7r2 hboot. Much smaller then dt version.
Is your rom deodexed or odexed?
Some proposals:
-add new kernel from bananacakes (modified original GB Sense kernel, sources also available in post).
-Please add trackpad2wake also.
And kind request, what is removed or what is left inside?
Thanks!
Sent from my HTC Desire

You're right, it does go down, but since your apps, the dalvik cache and the cache are being stored on the EXT-partition, the NAND is almost untouched by apps I think. Not sure though, I don't know a lot about the A2SD scripts.

Trackpad2Wake is a function I also used a lot myself, so I will implement it soon
The new kernel by Bananacakes: if I see positive results by other users, and people like it, I will build it in.
And the ROM is deodexed
About the Oxygen A2SD script: I'll see what I can do, and maybe implement a feature to choose the desired script for A2SD.
Thanks a lot for your interest guys, I really appreciate it!

your rom is a perfect! dsp manger?

I'll see how much space it takes, and I'll either make a flashable ZIP to install it automatically, or if there are lots of people interested in it, I'll implement it in the ROM itself

Just one thing.... if you are really wanting to attract people in and get them downloading, I'm certain having a screenshot would help with that. And maybe update the OP with some of the information like the above ^, about what is removed etc etc.
Good luck Thanks

I don't think its implemented in the ROM itself, but now its possible just to install the CM7 mod as an apk file.....
(attached)

I have some work to do for school, which should be finished in about 15 minutes, and then I'll update the OP and add screenshots of the current interface.
In about 1 week I'll release an update with a really nice skin (in my opinion), and I think that will make the ROM a bit more unique

Azrael X v5.0
Well, after a break, a lot of new OTA updates and such, and a lot of patience from most of you...here it is! I apologize for the wait and hope you find this release worth it. I still have to upload pics and such, they will be here soon.
I consider this still to be a Beta (have yet to find anything on it that does not work) but you can use this as a daily driver because (like all the other Azrael ROMS before it) it is a modified OTA. Azrael X v5.0 by Ricsim78
To install on your Evo:
1. Copy the ROM zip file to the root of your SD card.
2. Shut off your phone and boot into recovery.
3. Do a full wipe (Data, cache, Dalvik, SD Ext.) Do it twice to be sure if you want to!
4. Install the ROM. It should take a few minutes to install.
5. Reboot the phone. It should take a long time to start up the first time. Please be patient!
6. If all goes well, enjoy your new ROM!
7. If not, start over from step 2 after pulling your battery.
To install a custom kernel: Let it boot all the way into the ROM first and then reboot into recovery and wipe the cache and Dalvik. Then install the custom kernel and reboot. DO NOT install any MODS without letting the ROM load up without any addons first!
To install a theme: Let it boot all the way into the ROM first, then reboot into recovery and wipe the cache and Dalvik. Then install the theme and reboot.
How to backup and restore using Titanium backup Here is the method I use to backup my phone information before I wipe and install a new ROM
I backup my entire phone with a batch "Backup all user apps + system data"
Wipe and install the new ROM,
I open Titanium Backup (TB) and give it super user rights.
I hit "Updates?" in TB and make sure I am running the latest.
I hit "Problems?" in TB and make sure I am using Busybox 1.60
Hit menu and select batch
Select "Backup all new apps + newer versions of apps", if any.
Select "Restore missing apps with data"
Go over the list and make sure you are restoring only what you want
Hit run batch operation
After it completes, go back into TB and backup restore.
Restore contacts twice
Restore MMS twice
Restore Mail twice
If any of the 3 above do not take, do it again
Restart your phone
Verify mail, MMS, and contacts restored. If not, restore again.
Why Amon RA and not Clockwork recovery?
Clockwork does not wipe the Dalvik properly (if at all). I personally have had nothing but problems with both Clockwork and ROM manager
I have said countless times that if you use either of the above, it is at your own risk. Install Amon RA recovery and I bet any wiping/installing problems will go away.
If you already are using ROM manager, pick the option to install a custom recovery, choose Amon RA 1.8. If that option is greyed out, reinstall the latest Clockwork then install RA.
Note: Do not do a fix permissions with anything unless you need to, you can screw stuff up that way.
Trust me, the new ROM is devoid of problems (I have never tested a ROM this much before releasing it). If you experience any, it is either something you are doing wrong or incomplete wipes thanks to your recovery not doing it's job properly.
Which kernels work with this ROM?
Any that are designed for a Sense ROM. This includes:
Netarchy's
Kingclick's
Hero Over's
Ziggy's
HTC's
Which kernel do you recommend to use?
I cannot recommend a kernel for you because each EVO reacts different. The best for my phone can be the worse for yours.
You have to try the different ones available and pick the one that works best for you. What I do is start with their latest and work your way down until you find one that works well. Then stick with it.
This also goes for overclocking, SetCPU settings, etc.
With the new Hardware 0004 Evo phones, a custom kernel may or may not break the camera and video recording features. Make sure to test them before you head out.
Which themes work with this ROM?
Themes make your phone look nice but can also add problems to an otherwise smooth running ROM. You can use any theme you wish, but Nandroid first and if anything is broken, please do not blame the ROM as it is the theme that added the problem.
You definitely need to install a theme that works with a Gingerbread based ROM. DO NOT load an older theme (for older OTA's, for example 3.70, 3.30 or 3.29) as the framework files are different.
Always Nandroid before using a custom theme. Once you load up the theme, verify no problems are present that were not there before you installed the theme. If there is, keep the theme and either live with the problem, or fix it if you can. If not,be sure to let the maker of that particular theme aware that it is not working with Azrael ROM. They may be glad to help and you are helping them make their theme more compatible.
This one reserved for me as well...10 characters

3.30.651.2 (and subsequently 3.30.651.3) is 100% designed for newer Evo manufactured in November.
These Evos are hardware number 0004 and have a different camera chip and some other changes to the framework of the ROMS to accommodate this new hardware. HTC threw us ROM makers a curve ball!
You can use 3.30.XXX.X on an older Evo, but you can experience the following problems (some of which I personally witnessed on my own 0003 Evo):
Fast battery drain
3rd party camera apps having trouble working
Speed descreased a bit. (My new Azrael ROM is faster than my new Omega ROM on my phone, though they are identical besides the base).

Ahhhh! And I was just going to ask you ric why the base change, my Evo is hardware #0003 too.
I have heard of reports of 0003 having the new camera chip
Has the 3.30 base been definitely pinpointed as the cause of the rapid battery drain? I trust you and your Rom that's why I am using it. I only ask because it seems as most devs here have updated their Rom to the new base and was curious what in the build would cause this? Thanks.

- New apps2ext method, much cleaner and friendlier (you don't need a ext partition)
- Firstboot.sh removed

SparksMod 2.0 Changelog
This rom was made specificly to be used with Rom Manager and Clockworkmod Recovery by Koush
-Apps:
Gapps to rom, but they install seperately from the rom itself to ensure a clean installation. No need to flash more than one thing

Rom Manager. You can use rom manager
Updated apps, android term, GB Keyboard, others, all free apps of course

Just don't partition the sdcard, then u can use the built in froyo apps2sd.
EDIT: you might come across some problems with out a partition, basically the launchers and a couple apps are installed on apps2ext on boot, so I highly recommend you make a partition , or else you'll be missing some key apps. If you don't want to use app2ext after wards then go to terminal app type:
Su
sh /system/etc/fr-patch141-BETA.txt apps2sd
Then you should get option to move all data/data apps to SD say no, then if you will get option to move apps to actual native apps2sd and say yes.
OR you can just use apps2ext so u don't have to do all that, and apps2ext is faster.
It is 32A,i hav flashed the rom, pretty cool, however i dont know why the home key havent any reaction when i pressed。
the home key doesnt work?

[ROM][CDMA][7/23/11]SleekSense-1.0 (Uv,Apps2sd+, Other tweaks)

SleekSense-1.0 Officially Stable
Caution this rom uses a new format unlike any other rom. Which means it requires a ext partition. If you do not have one it will not boot and/or install. To see how to do one read the install section.
SleekSense has took a new approach. Instead of being themed like before. It is now has very little themeing. This is was done to keep the sense look more. Though it does have some themeing (Check the screenshots). SleekSense is built from the uscc froyo ruu with features you will love. On stock sense you have something around 100mb free. With this rom you will have 240mb free on boot. This doesn't seem like a lot but it also supports darktremors apps2sd+. Which means take angry birds for exmample is like 10mb. Around 8mb of it will be installed to the ext partition with 2mb on the internal memory. If so some how manage to run out of memory dalvik cache can be moved to the sd card. Though by default this wasn't done. The main reason is it slows the rom down to a crawl if on the stock card. If on a higher class card it can be enabled.
This also packs things not in any other rom. For a short list of what this has over any other sense rom here we go. Supports undervolting, powersave govenor, conservative govenor, cfq scheduler, ram optimization tweaks, perflock disabler, zipalign on boot, screen state scaling, reboot options, bloatware removed and numerous other things. Check below screenshot for a full feature list.

Things Removed:
Uscc boot animation and boot sound.
Stock bookmarks & homepage (Homepage is defaulted to google)
Toneroom
My Contacts Backup
CityId
Some different languages out of the frameworks (English is fully supported)
Unused images and codes out of the frameworks
Basically debloated but all the features of sense is still there (From the widgets to the live wallpapers)
What is Done/Added:
Dodexed entire rom to allow themeing
Optipnd'd almost the whole rom
Framework optimizations
Prerooted
Init.d support
Busybox
Nano
Bash
Apps people may not use or updates moved to data (AdobFlashplayer, AdobeReader, Facebook, OiFileManager, Gmail, Maps, Myspace, QuickOffice, Street, YourNavigator and Youtube)
Darktremors apps2sd+ with dalvik to sd-ext on boot disabled
Able to be undervolted now (Uses almost the exact voltages of my vork kernel)
More govenors now (PowerSave & Interactive)
Default scheduler changed to Cfq
Perflock on boot disabled
ZipAlign on boot (First boot will be sort of slow as it checks and zipaligns apk's. From then on it remembers what ones were done and only zip aligns ones that have been installed)
Screenstate scaling of cpu to save battery life
Backlight Settings tweaked along with backlight on buttons tweaked (Little bit dimmer to & backlights on buttons do not stay on unless on the lowest screen setting saving battery life)
Build prop tweaks to conserve battery and increase speed
Ram optimizations to futher more conserve battery and increase speed (Do not run a task killer it will only mess it up. Multitasking should greatly be increased.)
Custom boot animation (Though it likes to run on the bit fast side and booting not always fast)
0-100 percent battery mod
G4 sense themed icons for the status bar
Transparency enabled overall (For ones unaware froyo/sense does not have transparency enabled on certain system files. So this was enabled)
Transparent pull down with a little tweaking
Location Icon on taskbar is no longer there for no reason.
Popups themed to match sense overall colors and a few icons.
5 row app drawer with transparent background
Apps that require updates moved to data
All system apps moved to ext partition (This allows of live wallpapers and wallpapers to be kept with out hurting for space)
Some other things were also moved to ext. For a explanation on why this was done. Check the why dalvik was left internal with no data2sd.
Market cache for downloads mounted to ram upon downloading and installing. Once installed is is automatically deleted. Which means the only sense rom with 100% working cmtd.
Cmtd setup and fully working.
Before I forget reboot options (Reboot, Reboot to recovery & a few more)
Probably forgetting some stuff also. Once I remember I will update.
Why the rom was done like it was with no data2sd or dalvik moved:
Ok the rom was done like it was for a few reasons. One was for increased memory. Two was for speed. Three was for no dead sd cards. Followed by 4 was to help battery life. With that said we go to data2sd. Data2sd works by moving the data partition to a a sd-ext partition. There is a few different versions. Real data2sd kills cards quick due to reads and writes. Kali's data2sd is a knock off of darktremors apps2sd+. It moves the data/app and data/app-private to sdext. Same thing as darktremors apps2sd+. Darktremor's apps2sd packs more features from zip align, memory tweaking and other things. This should not cause lag like claimed. What will is enabling dalvik-cache to ext. Kali's doesn't support this. So kali's data2sd or darktremors apps2sd+ with out dalvik moved will not be that hard on a card at all.
Now with dalvik moved in darktremor's it causes lag and major read and writes to the sd card. Due to it moves system dalvik. Anytime you open a app or do something it reads and writes to the sd card. This causes battery drain and bottlenecks also. So what I did was a better alternative, since dalvik moved frees up space but causes lag. I left dalvik internal, moving system apps and a few other things to ext partitions. Then creating blind mounts. This allowed me not to remove anything like before or enable dalvik. Yet give the same free space 240mb to be exact. So you get the speed and space. Best of both worlds right?
The other thing is with anything sd-ext. Sd cards have a number of limited reads and writes. Some fail sooner and later. It just depends on the card. With that said the process done is very easy on the sd card.
Files to download:
SleekSense-1.0 Stable Click Here
Install instructions:
1. You need to have cwm 3 or above to install this. For working recoverys that will work with this rom check here Click Here Once you have that proceed.
2. Follow this step if you don't have a ext partition setup (If previously using apps2sd or data2sd you should have one. So please skip to step 3.)
First you need to back up your card sd card. This means mount your sd card on your computer, creating a folder. Then copying the contents of the sd card to the folder. Once this is done reboot phone into recovery. Once you do that go to advanced>partition sd-card. Pick you sizes for your partitions. I use 1024m/0m. Once that is done reboot your phone.
3. So once booted back into your rom. Copy the files you backup back over. The open the SleekSense-1.0.zip. Extract the contents to the root of the card. This means the sleeksense folder should be in the main directory. Along with the mtdpart text file in the root. If you had one before please replace it. Once done reboot to recovery again.
4. Go to Install zip from sd card>choose zip from sd card>SleekSense>SleekSense-recovery. Once installed go to Advanced>Reboot Recovery. Once recovery reboots it would be a good idea to do wipe data/factory reset. After the wipe is complete proceed below.
5. Go to Install zip from sd card>choose zip from sd card>SleekSense>SleekSense-SleekSense-Rc1. Once it installs and prompts you to reboot. Do reboot system now with in recovery. Now it will take a bit to boot the first time. The htc screen will stay on for about a min to two. Then you will see a android boot animation. It will also stay on this for awhile. Don't worry if it isn't booting right away. Now if 10mins have passed and you still are in the ui. Then redo the above steps for flashing the rom. No need to reformat the card. Just make sure you do a full wipe.
6. If it booted in the ui. Follow the setup wizard and you are good to go.
For any problems you encounter, have a question or anything else. Please post them at the following link: Click Here or post in the thread here. If I don't get to your post in a day you can pm me on here and ask me to check.

Do you have a cdma desire?
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA Premium App
You are right...I missed it...No, is there any other than CDMA?
I have visited your site, good work, i rarely see CDMA posts, more of them are GSM and i missed it. Thanks anyway.
Yea this is only for the cdma desire. Was there something you wanted possibly I could help you out with?
No, i just wanted a new rom and this one looked good.
Will this work without ext3? I have my card partitioned already for Dtapps2sd since that's what I know how to use lol. Second question is do we have a custom kernel yet?
Sent from my desire with SWYPE sorry bout the spelling
Hello, I was wondering what the easiest way to put a ext3 partition on my sd card is? Is that all I need to do before installing this ROM and it will auto recognize the ext3 partition or am I thinking wrong here?
Wait till later today as I am doing some changes on my forum so links will probably be down. I also fixed everything but a few of the icons that aren't themed.
I removed the modules as they don't work. The ones in the other rom doesn't either just a heads up on that. I am uploading the rc2 as I type but the links won't be up till later today.
As for the ext partition backup the contents of your card and do it from recovery following the instructions in my guide at the link. I don't recommend installing if you have a ext partition that you don't want to wipe. As if you don't wipe it. It will cause force closes.
You can make a backup of your partition say if you are using data2sd with cm7. Then wipe it as the partition will work with the rom. I plan to upload a non apps2sd and play with the data2sd scripts and upload one of those also. As for the custom kernel htc hasn't released the source though one may be built from mixing the cdma desire eclair with the cdma froyo kernel. Though I don't think it is worth the time to play with it. Not for me any way.
As running two sites doing a cm6,cm7 and froyo rom for the desire. Then roms for the mesmerize I don't honestly have enough free time.

Well as you know we have very little and your contribution is greatly appreciated. If I can get the mms and provider right (can't remember how on a sence rom) this is gonna be my new rom.but I can do a full wipe and I think I have a ext3 for darktremor already so it should work the same. About to give it a shot lol.
Sent from my desire with SWYPE sorry bout the spelling
Ok I've gotten a few reports on the version of darktremors apps2sd making a partition on the card with out wiping the card if one isn't found. I can't verify this at the moment due to have limited access to the girls desire since I switched to the mesmerize.
Also this will work with the green or orange cwm. Unlike the other sense rom for cdma here that was done in htc kitchen on a older version where it just boot loops on green but works on orange. The ext3 partition is fine in both for myself also.
I also added the new release to the first post if on the first rc-1 you can download the zip I am going to post of just the rom. Do a wipe and flash it. No need to redo the cmtd stuff.
Edit: Added link to just zip in guide and added link in guide for different colored markets.
Why will nothing else boot up after i flashed this rom? not even backups.. The only thing that will get past boot animation is this rom and a backup of this rom.. everything else gets stuck on boot loop.. did a full wipe but nothing works.. gonna try CM7 see if that works.. if not im stumped
Nevermind.. figured it out.. duhhh lol
It was because cmtd wasn't it? Glad you got it.

Yea it was cuz of 1st zip that you flash.. wasnt aware you would have to use the other zip to undo it.. lol I only flashed back to my backup cuz i was having market problems cuz of my connection due to weather cuz alot of other peeps are have problems with theirs too.. only thing i can think of.. wish these roms would come with a file manager like Cyanogen does so you can install apk.s from sdcard incase of market or connection problems
Is there a way to change the battery and data connection icons? Ive tried using UOT Kitchen but it wont get past boot.

If the rom is deodexed you can open the zip look in framework-res and put the icons in you want and also in drawable-mdpi (might be named a different drawable, I can't remember for the desire but when you look threw the folder it still be obvious if it's right or not) then flash it. Our you can make a metamorph file or make your own flashable zip with the files. Whatever is easiest for you. But it must be deodexed and not odex. Not sure what this rom is. Lol.
Btw I seen your question in the last post we spoke in but for some reason it wouldn't let me respond and I just forgot after that lol. Sorry

[ROM] [20/08] Pre-rooted Stock Gingerbread (3.14.405.1) [Optional Mods]

For those familiar with my pre-rooted stock Froyo ROM, this is the first release of HTC's official HTC Desire Gingerbread ROM. As before, the base ROM is entirely stock, but with the following minimal changes:
Added root (including busybox)
Superuser App - 2.3.6.3 (ChainsDD)
init.d support
This ROM requires a full wipe to install. There is no option here - the ROM will automatically wipe your phone's storage (excluding the sdcard). Therefore it's highly recommended to do a back up before installing.
The ROM does not include the radio, but you should install this at the same time you install the ROM, if you don't have this version already. The radio supplied with HTC's release is 5.17.05.23 and this is provided below.

OPTIONS
Below are some mods to this ROM (more will follow). They are purely optional, and of course take you further away from the stock ROM. Remember that all of these mods are designed to work with this ROM specifically, and not others.
UPDATE APPS (1.0) - updated || 03/08
This will update your system Google apps to the latest market versions: Maps 5.8.0, Gmail 2.3.5.
POWERSAVING MODULES - updated || 10/08
This reduces your battery usage by slightly undervolting, and by forcing the CPU down to 245MHz when the screen is off (it will also fall to 245MHz when idle). Additionally, when battery capacity falls below 30%, the maximum speed will be 800MHz, less than 20% it will be 700MHz and less than 10% it will be limited to 380MHz. When your phone is connected to a charger, it will boost performance a bit when the screen is on, and the speed will not be limited.
A2SD (1.0) - updated || 05/08
With this mod your apps will be saved to the sdcard instead of internal storage. Gingerbread includes enhanced support for moving apps to your sdcard, but not all can be moved, and so this isn't sufficient for everybody. If you need more space, this will help. For this to work you need your sdcard formatted with two partitions, the first a regular FAT partition for general use, the second an ext2/ext3 partition exclusively for A2SD. If you install the mod without a second partition A2SD will not be activated, but it will automatically start up if you create the partition later on your next boot.
MINOR TWEAKS & EXT4 (2.0) - updated || 20/08
This mod will install the default boot animation to the data area, where you can replace it with a custom one if you want to. It also allows hosts modification (you can use the AdFree Android app - do not use the symlink option in it). You will need to re-apply this mod if you do a full wipe. 2.0: Add ext4 support.
REMOVE BOOTSOUND (1.0) - updated || 04/08
Disables the sound on boot up.
INSTALLATION
Your phone must be rooted with custom recovery to install this ROM. There are plenty of guides on how to do this simple procedure. The recommended steps for installation are as follows:
Back up your contacts, apps and text messages to your sdcard; reboot the phone into custom recovery; perform a full backup in recovery; install the radio (select 'install zip from sdcard'); install the ROM; reboot.
After you update the radio the phone will reboot a couple of times, this is normal. The first regular boot may take a little longer than usual.
FAQ
Q. I have installed the official HTC developer Gingerbread update. Can I install this?
A. The preview of the new version of Alpharev (Revolutionary) should be able to help you with this.
Q. Do I need to install this radio?
A. No, but it's highly recommended.
Q. Does this support 720p?
A. Yes. It supports everything that the official ROM supports.
Q. My wifi disconnects occasionally - I had no problem in froyo.
A. This is a problem with the official ROM. It cuts the wifi connection if the signal falls low and switches to your data connection. There will be an optional mod to revert this soon.
Q. Can I use this with Alpharev?
A. Yes. But your system partition must be 250mb.
Hi Teppic,
I'm still using your froyo rom. Thank you very much, runs very smoothly. I didn't use the a2sd+ you included there but i need more room now.
How much space is left to install apps after installing this rom?
Will you include a powersaving modpack?
If you add some form of apps to sd will you give us the option of keeping dalvik cache on the internal memory? (If I have read correctly, this gives least lag)

I think there's about 120mb free on a clean installation. Remember that in Gingerbread the official apps to sd function is better than in Froyo, and might be enough.
I need to spend more time to get other mods sorted out, but I thought it would be best to get the base rom out immediately.
altough I'm an AOSP fan this seems an excelent choice to go stock.
tks
Thanks for this, I was a big fan of your Froyo rom!
Looking forward to A2SD support.
Thanks a lot teppic74 for this ROM.
I'm using your Froyo ROM since months and will use this Gingerbread ROM as soon as the powersaving modpack will be available.
One mod that could be very useful is DATA2SD : [DEV][DATA2SD] More space (and more I/O) for your Desire (Updated/EXT4/Flashable ZIP). I'm using it with success on your Froyo rom.
Thanks for this release!
Only reason I'm on Sense is due to the lack of an aosp rom supporting 720p recording on the Desire, and this makes it nice knowing I don't have to get locked in with the new hboot etc.
Thanks!
i heard this rom just for development testing and not every day use, what thing are laggy/buggy in this rom thanks. i heard battery is terrible...
Cool & thanks! I'm also still on your Froyo A2SD... (in spite of being tempted many times by the earlier sense GB ports... I want something stable and stock-like)
I made a few home-made mods on your Froyo (install a few more apps to system, like the brilliant widgetsoid).
Anyway, as soon as your A2SD GB out, I'll try it

I've been reading a lot about the HTC release. There's nothing wrong with the HTC ROM... (Other than being unrootable and irreversible). If you want to discuss the HTC ROM though, there are other threads about it.
Let's stick to teppic74's custom work here.

Not a chance - the ROM takes up almost the full 250mb.

Sorry, to clarify: it's the original GingerBread Sense ROM from HTC that, if installed using the HTC release (RUU), will be unrootable and irreversible (at the moment - with all current tools).
All custom ROMs derived from it, are pre-rooted and reversible.

720p recording/playback works for me. That said, although tough lighting conditions, it seems *only imo, and I'm sure it;s just my eyes as doubt anything changed* it seems worse. Could just be me though.

[ROM][UPDATED 11/30/2012]Glorious Overdose v4.1

THE OFFICIAL 4.1 UPDATE IS LIVE. GET IT HERE OR USE OTA UPDATER TO UPDATE!
The pictures may not be showing for a while, but the link will be working.
Well, here we are. One of the (in my opinion at least) most prestigious custom ROMs for the SK4G changing hands yet again. Now, before people come out and call me a ROM developer, I am FAR from any sort of developer(I can't code anything substantial. Only small things in bash, PHP, Ruby, and possibly Python). I'll gladly call myself a ROM maintainer, however. As my bio in my profile says, I'm a do-it-yourselfer. If I can't get it done myself without a minimal amount of headache/frustration, then is when I call on the aid of someone else.
Credits, of course, go to PDT(Platypus Dev Team for the new people) for the initial release of Glorious Overdose, Dr Honk for the Bali kernel, nxd for the latest Bali kernel build which removes the keylogger, TheLastSidekick for GOv3 and for allowing me to continue his continuation of the Glorious Overdose legacy, anyone who helped with GOv1 - GOv3, the devs of the apps I've included(CM based or stock), and lastly you, the end-user, who keeps this ROM alive with the feedback and ideas you give.
Using this ROM means you are responsible if you brick your device without checking mounts, so don't PM me whining that I owe you a new SK4G, because one, you voluntarily used it, and two, I simply do not have that kind of money to buy everyone who claims this ruined their only phone.
First time flashers: READ THIS NEXT SECTION CAREFULLY. PLEASE DON'T PM OR REPLY HERE SAYING LINDA KEEPS SAYING "Convert data partition, system not available...Convert system partition, system not available.". The only fix for this is to use ODIN or Heimdall One-Click to go back to stock and reflash using Orange CWM and making SURE your mounts look exactly like the section that speaks of Orange CWM.
Experienced Flashers: You already know the drill, but read ahead to double check.
To quote the thread from GOv3.3 on the mounts.
PLEASE LET ME KNOW OF ANY BUGS, so I CAN ATTEMPT TO FIX THEM!
CHECK YOUR MOUNTS, I CANNOT STRESS THIS ENOUGH!
Thanks to ayoteddy!
- Put zip file in your /sdcard
- Reboot into cwm recovery
- Wipe Data/Factory Reset
- Wipe Cache Partition
(Optional but recommended to prevent any minor issues)-Wipe Dalvik Cache from advanced menu in CWM

Click to collapse
*Now before you Flash, Only if you are on the orange CWM, (Not RED voodoo CWM from Bali) if on red CWM ignore the mounts/unmount part*
MAKE SURE YOUR MOUNTS LOOK LIKE THIS: (Go to mounts and storage from CWM recovery)
UNMOUNT CACHE
MOUNT DATA
MOUNT SDCARD
UNMOUNT SYSTEM - this is the ONLY mount you pay mind to, not Sdcard or anything else
- Now its safe to Flash the .zip

(AGAIN IGNORE UNLESS IF YOU ARE ON A RED VOODOO RECOVERY) after you flash, go back to mounts and storage and make sure your mounts look like this
UNMOUNT CACHE
MOUNT DATA
UNMOUNT SDCARD
UNMOUNT SYSTEM
(Optional but recommended)-Wipe Cache then Wipe Dalvik Cache from advanced menu in CWM before Rebooting.
(To First Time installers, System Needs to be set to Unmount, though it would really be mounted. If you do Not do this you will have a softbrick and will have to ODIN to stock and start all over ....) Once you have Flashed a Custom ROM or Bali 2.2 Kernel you dont have to worry about mounts

For those of you who use irssi on device(meaning you use the binary cross-compiled for ARM use), here's an easy fix if it isn't working for you.
Credit goes to happy from Rizon's IRC network(screenshot above is from his device, a Droid 4, iirc. NOT from a new GO look, sorry.)
If I don't reply to any questions here in a timely fashion, come find me on IRC in #GloriousOverdose on irc.rizon.net
In terminal, do uname -a. New hostname init.d script also serves as a type of sysinfo script for the SK4G(minus RAM and resolution and all that. Just OS and Kernel as of now.) and is useful when using IRSSI(do /exec -o uname -a in IRSSI to show the world that you are using Glorious Overdose. ^-^)
For those who want a little AOSP goodness, here is the 2.2 AOSP Launcher2.apk. Just set in /system/app and make the apks permissions the same as all the rest there. This is thanks to xanium4332.
Awesome! Excited about this
So you released like 3 or 4 roms kind of around the same time.. any comment about which one is the fastest or most stable? Are you still working on/updating the other ones like tigerfusion, tigerblood, etc? I'm on GOV3.3 right now and I'm happy with it except for the reboot problem while using maps/navigation. I'm not really sure which one to try but I like the way I have everything setup so I don't want to flash anything that cant be used as a daily driver yet. Thats why I'm excited about this one because it seems to be closest to what I'm using now.
As for the changes - is it any faster or "better" than v3.3?
Many of them seem like things we can do ourselves: I also ditched lightning launcher for launcherpro or adw, and got rid of or added some of the apps I liked. Personally I don't think amazon appstore should be on the rom, whoever wants it can just downloaded it right? Also I prefer quickpic to the 3d gallery as its much faster and doesn't crash. Is this 3d gallery a different one? (most of these things were just personal preference, i don't mind changing them myself after flashing the rom)
So the main things I think are the scripts/lagfix and a few theme tweaks.. Not really sure about PMR and the OTA stuff.. can you explain that?
but overall thanks for keeping this phone alive and giving it some hope and activity!
Well, I didn't really do much for TigerFusion, TigerBlood, or DangerZone apart from provide the lagfix script and bounce ideas off of the creator of the roms, RicAndroid. So, this, essentially is my first custom ROM release.
The 3D Gallery is, indeed, probably the crashy one. But it's because the ICS Gallery I wanted to include wouldn't work and QuickPic, imo, strayed too far from the original Glorious Overdose, which is the look/feel I'm trying to maintain while minimizing lag and other unpleasantries. But, yes, it is encouraged to mod it after flashing to further personalize the experience, but then I can't provide as clear of support when apps are added/removed from what I've release. So it's up to the user, in the end.
As for the inclusion of Amazon AppStore, that's based on it being, imo, the second most used AppStore for Android after Google Play. I mean, I don't own any apps from Google Play but I own some on Amazon. I can't use some of them without Amazon AppStore installed and signed in. If I could import purchases from Amazon to Google Play, I wouldn't include it(Yes, it's a personal preference). Like I own SetCPU. The version in the Amazon AppStore is 2.3.0.7(iirc) and the version in Google Play is 3.0.7. Dunno why the first hasn't been updated yet, but meh.
The OTA Updater will be like any normal OTA Update, but aimed specifically for custom roms(this one most likely being the first to have it implimented, hopefully it will be the first to use it too). Meaning whenever I push an update to the OTA Updater Center Pro, it'll push a notification to you which will allow your to Download and Update or Just download and just update manually via CWM(which is what I'll recommend because I'm unsure of how the app handles CWM recovery itself atm)
PMR is a collection of tweaks/scripts that were compiled first into an AROMA package installer and then ported to an apk format. The audio engines, sadly are incompatible with this phone until someone ports the kernel of Android 4.x or higher for the SK4G. Everything else works as far as I know.
And hold on to your hat. I'm in the process of creating the update.zip and testing it myself before I upload to MediaFire and submitting it to OTA Update Center Pro's database. I'll also be keeping an updated link here for people who are uneasy about the OTA feature and for those who ODIN'd and didn't keep a copy of the one they started on to flash and then update to the newest version. So far, all that I've done is in the changelog. And no, there won't be a LITE/LEAN version. I don't feel the need to create two version of the same ROM. Besides, this is essentially GOv3.3(LEAN) with the above changes.
Let it begin.... a new age of Sidekick cookers. THIS LOOKS HOT, MAN
Very sexy
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app
Just checked the OTA app. It downloads fine. And I think it works because I grabbed the direct link from my MediaFire upload by right clicking on the download button on the page and used that URL. Dunno if it works day after day. And I don't know how well it handles the flashing itself because I feel a manual boot into recovery and manual flashing is the safest bet. Until I or another ROM maintainer can confirm that it does the flash flawlessly, stick to a CWM restore, please.
Because the OTA Update Center also displays the version, I removed the v4.0 from the build number and only the OTA Update Center version will change. The Build Number shows Glorious Overdose now, versus the old way in the screenshots.
Either way, enjoy GOv4.0. I know I am, and I'm the one who rolled this build of Glorious Overdose out. Now I look at my phone with pride, knowing I'm using my own creation and out there, someone else is enjoying it like I am. Such a satisfying feeling.
If you have a dedicated SK4G that you wish to test the latest build of Glorious Overdose with, PM me and I will give you instructions on how to turn your GOv4.x build into a dev/tester build that will get updates long before the public one does. I have 2 testers so far. Myself and RicAndroid. I think a total of either 5 or 10 testers should be sufficient to get things rolling. For those of you who still have GOv2 or GOv3 and haven't grabbed this yet and wish to enjoy OTA goodness, wait a day or two and I should have an update.zip to give you that pleasure of updating OTA.
That's all I have for now.

Well, some apps, like the Gallery app(back when I could find it in the Play Store) and the Jelly Bean Keyboard cost money, but I included them because the free versions either didn't provide the functionality that I thought Glorious Overdose should have or just refused to work completely and I don't have a bank account or a credit card to purchase apps/credit from Google Play so I couldn't include my copies even if I had them.
I tried to keep the paid apps I included to a minimum. The only paid apps I can spot myself are the two I mentioned above. All the other ones are the free version because they work and provide the right amount of functionality for the ROM.
You should remove them. Warez are not allowed on XDA.
Fair enough. I'll revert back to QuickPic and JellyBean Keyboard free. If the mods will give me time to do so before they take action, that is. I can't do that as of now because tired and late, but thanks for the heads up(honestly didn't know[don't really read rules, just try to use common sense. Guess getting frustrated that the Free JB KB didn't wanna work and I couldn't find the free version of the 3D Gallery on the Play Store got the best of me]). Those and a new battery will be in the first OTA update available(And I'll even update the OP's link to 4.0.1 for anti-warez purposes).
EDIT: Had some moron texting me about some court stuff when I hadn't gotten anything in the mail about court appearances. So, I've been up for a bit and am getting an OTA update ready/OP update link sans the new battery. It'll be live in about an hour or so.

Rule of thumb is: No downloads, not fit for the development board.
That being said... 24 hours are enough to re-pack a ROM so it doesn't contain warez anymore?
Yes? Start the clocks...
Oh sorry I meant to direct my post towards both you and RicAndroid. So RicAndroid feel free to respond to the parts which were more relevant to you.
And I'm kinda confused, is 4.0.1 live and available to download? Its there on the changelog but I don't see a link anywhere..
and thanks for switching back to quickpic!
Edit: I just saw it was on Fixing/updating.. I'll wait
QuickPic is my app of choice....the Gallery is fine but it gets buggy sometimes.
This rom is sweet, BTW. The warez thing is not allowed, yeah....but there are plenty of fully functional free apps out there. Like ES File Explorer (which can be given root permissions), Touchpal keyboard (which is the best alternative to SwiftKey).
I'm currently porting the Bi-Winning Redux ICS framework...the correct way this time using GIMP with those 9.png files. It is looking beautiful so far. I will also jump on board the OTA thing this weekend.
Good stuff, dude. Keep up the fine work!
Sent from my SGH-T839 using xda app-developers app
Well, as of now, the update is unofficial(the build.prop is the same but changed the OTA version because it's unofficial until I figure out how to get Quick Pic and Terminal emulator to work as system apps.). I can't get QuickPic to work unless I install as a user app and then move to the system apps and that only works AFTER installing it. But, yeah, gonna go update the OP with a link to the unoffical OTA Update. Those who have the warez version, just go to the OTA Updater app, check updates, hit download, and hit home and do whatever you want, but check the file on the SDCard at /sdcard/OTA-Updater/download/glorious_overdose_.zip or something similar and make sure it reaches 177MiB.
Edit: Forgot to mention, this "update", although shown as 4.0.1 isn't the final update to 4.0.1...once I figure out how to get QuickPic and Terminal Emulator to work as a System app and switch to ES File Explorer from ASTRO(Because ES allows root access and ASTRO doesn't) then the real 4.0.1 will be out. Until then, ignore the faux update notice if you already updated. That or you can change your build.prop and change it back when it is completely fixed.
Also @B.Jay I've been using 7zip to pull/add/change files is in a re-zipped GOv3.3. So, it only took a matter of minutes but I was almost passing out when I replied to how_weird about removing the warez stuff. I don't know enough about the OS to create an update.zip from scratch.
Got D4 Update.zip creator now. So, yeah. Works.
Thanks for posting. When my wife leaves her phone alone and is sleeping I will flash this. Could be a day or two, she hates me messing with her phone.

Lol. I know how it is. Just because 2 instances with my friends devices...he doesn't wanna root or jailbreak ever. I've finally convinced him to let me update his LePanII tablet to ICS and possibly root it.
At any rate, wait to grab it until later tonight or early tomorrow. Testing a possible fix for QuickPic and Terminal Emulator not wanting to work in the unofficial OTA update.
freakin awesome rom!
anxiously awaiting the link for 4.0.1 to rematerialize !
Well, the link is back up. Oh, and just an FYI. If there are changes in the changelog here but no OTA update showing...most likely I'm getting the update ready and am showing what I have done to the update.
yay! Loving it
Flashed this a few hours ago, finished restoring my apps and getting things set up the way i want them. Works great so far.. we'll see how it goes within the next few days
Thanks!
No problem. Hopefully I don't get fed up trying to find a way to update the su binary along with ROM releases and just say that users should update it on their own. Getting close, though.
