So is the crackling speaker effect caused by poor hardware build or software (radio)?
If i raise the in-call volume past 40% i get crackling...sounds almost like it's overamplified or something.
Also noticed when recording videos and there is any bit of noise outdoors, the (stereo) sound is crackling too....
I have a momax case with all holes present for the little noisecancelling mics on the backplate so that shouldn't be a problem.

Are you using any custom ROM or just stock

have the same issue with stock and custom
Same here. Even requested a replacement and the second unit received also suffers from the same issue!
I have the same issue too ! You have to report it to htc. I already reported .
It's a known issue with video recording. To get rid of the microphone clipping go to options and uncheck stereo recording. When it records in mono the sound is not clipped as bad. There are a bunch of threads about this. Kind of sucks because this was a cool feature for this phone and it doesn't work properly.

I don`t care about sound in video recording . Buzzing earpiece make me nervous.
I have the same issue with my stock 2.3.4 T-mo sensation.
It's probably a hardware issue.
Warning! If you decide to do this you will lose the guarantee on the phone! This guide is for those who have a problem with the speaker, crackle noise. In order to successfully do this you'll need a screwdriver TOREX, filter or piece of cardboard and good will ........ Remove the battery cover, remove the battery, unscrew the 6 screws and gently lift the plastic from the housing.Remove the speaker , gently pull it out of plastic, cardboard cut in the shape of the speaker and insert in plastic...return the speaker back, ... slightly .... return plastic on the housing... screw the 6 screws ...... put the battery back....than the back cover...... switch on the phone and enjoy the sound of your new phone

Has anyone tried this to fix the crackling speaker? Iget it on some of my phone calls and it really sucks.

Hey guys,
I want to check if anyone is having the same issue as I have.
When i use my headphones (Bose QC15), as soon as the heaphone jack moves a tiny bit (as when the phone is in my pocket and I am walking), it cuts the sound in the left ear. I tried with several other headphones and have the same issue.
I sent the phone for repair three times and every time it came back still faulty. I finally got sent a new phone yesterday (which by the way has a flat screen rather than the old curved screen) and the problem is still here, even though it's not as bad as with the old one.
It seems like the headphone jack makes contact with the unidoby casing and that is what cuts the sound from the left ear.
Anyone can confirm it they have the issue or not???
Yes, all of them have that.

Really??!!! That's ridiculous! Come on HTC sort your sh**t together!
Has anyone found a way around it? I was thinking of using a rubber coating for use as electrical tape and insulation and put it on the case around the jack.
I wonder if that would work.
I'll try and report.
If contact with unibody is the problem using some clear non-conductive nail polish, gently applied around the jack hole, should fix it. And could be also reversible, maybe with some cover paint losses.
That's a great idea, now I just need to find out what kind of nail polish is non conductive?! Do you think they all are?
Hey guys, I am having an Audio Jack problem. I bought a pair of Image S4's that are awesome, but they don't work in my HTC sensation, unlike every other device I use them for.
When I push left on the end of the jack(rubber part) when in the phone, it loses sound out of the left speaker, and always skips when I move around or pu put the phone in my pocket. I know this is not a backcover issue because when I take the backcover off I get the same issue. It jack is long and skinny not L shaped btw, anyone know how I might solve this? Is it because the sensation's jack is to loose?
Your audio jack is loose of the mainboard. Get your phone to a htc repair service

I had no sound a all and headphone pin was not going all the way in...swirled some rolled tape in and whole lotta lint crap came out and I can hear now...
In the last 6 months i had very low volume during calls, I was sure it was a Rom-related issue but even when moving from a AOSP-based rom to a sense one it didn't help.
I've tried the method with cleaning the earpiece with tooth brush - didnt help. so I've took a needle and just entered a few milimeters into the holes of the earpiece, while making a circular movement inside of it.
And now the volume is so strong that i need to put the volume lower it to the middle!!!
Just wanted to let you know in case it's your case too.
FYI: IM NOT TAKING RESPONSIBILITY IF YOU INSERTED THE NEEDLE IN A WRONG WAY AND DESTROYED YOUR SPEAKER, ACT WITH CAUTION!

Can you take a picture of the earphone holes you poked? I replaced my earspeaker while I replaced my cracked screen but the replacement speaker was worse so I swapped back to the OEM one.
I have an idea how the speakers look underneath but would love to know which holes you worked on to enhance the sound experience.
Nothing to photograph here, its not a mods just cleaned the holes of the housing.

Can you please quickly look at the top ear piece and tell me if you can see some flat metal thing partially under the speaker grill mesh? is that normal?
thanks

well I haven't ripped one if these apart yet but my guess is that they had to suspend the speakers in their own little chamber in order for the acoustics to work with the waterproofing. I think that metal thing is the speaker itself.
I have gone through 4 Z3s for one reason or another and all had the same appearing top speakers so I'm guessing it's normal.
I can see the same with mine so I'm guessing it is normal for these devices

I have replaced 3 Z3s (Cosmetic defects) on my 4th, I can say its normal it's on every one I have seen.
Same here on my Z3.

Hi there,
I replaced my broken screen with a screen+frame which has the grill on the screen. However, after replacement, I can not hear any sound when somebody calls me. I need to use the speaker or the earphones to talk to somebody, pretty annoying. Do you have any idea what I did wrong or missing?
Thanks.

Did the speaker grill have any coating or covering on the inside? Perhaps you either disconnected or tore a ribbon cable that was connected to the speaker (if there was one)? I had similar issues with my screen replacement, but had issues with no cellular signal. I'm going to have to take mine apart again to investigate. I would suggest the same for you...

Hey, I had the same problem when I first replaced. The solution is easy. I forgot to plug in one of the cables which apparently increases the cellular signal. See the pictures attached.
I can not open the grill, for the sake of not opening the screen from the frame I bought the screen with frame and grill. So this defeats whole purpose.
Anybody has any idea about it? Is there a special connection for earpiece speaker?
Are you sure you have the ear speaker installed ? I don't think you have to open the screen to change the speaker.
In step 19 in the iFixit guide they remove the speaker BEFORE they remove the screen.
By the way where did you ordered the screen + mid frame? How is the rest of the quality ?

Hey Thanks for this. I installed it as well but still not working, interesting. I'm going to reopen try to fit it again.
I bought it from here: aliexpress.com/snapshot/6480736262.html?orderId=65692759745232 - DHL sent me the item in less than one week.
There is also alternative: vifocal.com/lcd-display-digitizer-replacement-with-middle-frame-for-oneplus-one-64gb-16gb.html
Quality is ok, I had ghost swipes before. It's not happening any more. Maybe because of software fixes (I'm on CM12 nightly, Lollipop). Apart from that, the colors are a lil bit washed out. I got used to anyways Sometimes under bright light (outdoors afternoon), greens look so weird. Overall I'm satisfied because I dropped the phone a lot in the past and mid frame was full of scratches. Now I have new mid frame.
Here they said the ear speaker is extremely fragile so i think it's
possible you broke it.
How is the speaker connected anyway ? I diddn't find any connector in the teardown.

So it's obviously not the original one :crying:
But contact the seller that you didn't get an original one. You can get a refund. And write him a bad critic on aliexpress that it is not original so he can't trick more people.

it might not be the original one but it saved me from the time without any phones. I gave him a good rating etc. Asking for refund would be unfair in my opinion.
Yes I also saw that xda recommendation, maybe I broke it I don't know. WIll give it a try tonite. Ordered an earpiece speaker just in case from the aliexpress for 6 bucks, but i'm sure it will take at least 1 month to arrive.

Thanks everyone, I solved the problem by putting the speaker unit horizontally 180 degree flipped and it started working.
Nice :good:
