[Q] How to use D2G on AT&T - Droid 2 Global General

Hello all,
I'm planning on picking up a D2G locally to use on AT&T. So let me get this straight:
1) Buy D2G locally.
2) Flash with 2.4.29 SBF using RSD Lite.
3) I would need to unlock the phone. Can I do this without having an active Verizon account to activate the phone? I realize I can get the code from various resellers but would the phone need to be active on Verizon's network or just previously activated on Verizon's network?
4) Apply the edit cellzealot specified here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=16572174&postcount=22
At this point I should be able to use it on AT&T.
5) From what I read I should be able to install and use non-Moto ROMs.
My biggest questions are with steps 3 and 5. Could anyone clarify those steps for me? Is there anything else I should know? Any fixes for the reception issues?
Thanks!

Hi
This is what i have just got done with my D2G and it work great on att . I got 3.6 mb down and 1.8 mb up in NYC . On your step 4 you shoud do this its much easier : w w.mydroidworld.com/forums/android-hacks/8942-tbh-us-gsm-band-unlock-droid-2-global-pro-update-zip-public-release.html#post98026
Good luck !

Thanks, warlord002! I read a post mentioning that update.zip but didn't really look into it. Using the update.zip makes this whole thing a ton easier.
Any recommended ROMs?

If you're lucky, and the purchased code works, you just input it and that's all.

Sweet, thanks for the help guys.
The phone isn't for me so I'll need a stable, functional ROM. I mean stock's always an option, but if there are better ROMs out there that are just as functional I'd rather use one of those. Suggestions?

Can you please explain step two for someone that is new at cdma phone hacking.

Picking up a D2G tomorrow morning. Are there any updates regarding gingerbread and the old radio? Any GB based ROMs out?
Also any websites that can give me the correct unlock code? Seems like its hit or miss for the most part and only Verizon has them forsure. I guess I'll have to do some social engineering and get that code from them somehow.

Well, JFYI: if you're on AT&T, you aren't getting Gingerbread.
Otherwise, Gingerbread update was called off and will be released later (“soon™”).
There is the update.zip from that OTA update, which can be installed.
There are some ROMs in development, but not production ready yet (at least on GSM).
Have fun with your social engineering, mostly because VZW wants you to be on a contract for at least 6 months to get the code.

Yeah I guess I'll stick with Froyo for the timebeing.
The social engineering is failing pretty hard. Tried at least 10 reps through different numbers and they all tell me the phone needs to be active on a line. My best bet now is to add some cash to the deal and ask the seller (vzw customer) to have it unlocked for me.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk

Many reps are telling me they can't even generate the code if the phone isnt active on their network. How true that is I don't know...

Picked up a D2G a few hours ago. The seller was nice enough to get the unlock code for me from Verizon!
SBFed to .29, rooted, bootstrapped, radio patched, and flashed to hexen all in an hour or so. No issues whatsoever. The D2G's running great on AT&T so far!

Glad to see a few more folks using this hack. It works well despite a few bugs in the original release build.

i got my D2G this morning, and soon ordered unlock code from ebay.
the seller get me the code IMMIDIATELY, and it works!
and the TBH's band hack helps me a lot. i'm now using t-mobile happily

Pls guys help me! I've just bought MY D2G from ebay, seller send my unlock code from verizon, I put it.. but when I inserted my new t-mobile sim, phone couldn't see any GSM network.. i flashed it already to 2.4.29, so what should I do next?
PLS help me, i really like this phone and dont wanna change it to another..

Check here - one more thing to do before you can get T-Mobile on your D2G. Remember you will not be able to get 3G - only GSM, but it will work nicely (and battery life will be great). Don't forget to set the phone to GSM only in the settings - so it doesn't waste power to look for a 3G compatible network all the time.

Apparently you can rip out the radio firmware from TBH's 4.5.606 and still install it via CWM; it works with 2.4.330's baseband.
The question is whether it's possible to make a 2.4.330 update that also doesn't touch the radio firmware, so you could flash 2.4.29 SBF, update to 2.4.330 and then 4.5.606 without touching the baseband, and thus gain Gingerbread with AT&T.

Going through the exact same process! But I can't unlock my phone, I bought it on ebay, the seller said it was unlocked but its not. I tried two of the unlock sim sites with no luck -$20 and two non functioning codes .. Is there anyway to unlock my phone?

Only via Verizon.

you are supposed to be given 2 codes..just in case one of them doesnt work. i got my code form the unlock shack and no problems

US Cellular Touch Pro 2 working on ATT?

Hi, I am sort of new here but I know enough to get around on what I need to do, but I am at a stand still...
I bought a US Cellular Touch Pro 2 from Ebay which was "unlocked" supposedly, but my ATT phone card does nothing in it, I can get digital roaming but ATT will not work on the phone.
So my question is, what are the needed steps in order to get my Touch Pro 2 to get working on the ATT network. As far as I know the Security is not unlocked.
Thanks ahead of time,
if you need any other information please ask =D
-Cyanide
Note: I bought an unlock code from Ebay earlier, but since it says its unlocked I cant use the code, unless there is another way to use that code.
if im right and some1 here can correct me if im not. i think u have to sim unlock it for it to work.
My US Cell TP2 came SIM unlocked
Same as above, my us cell tp2 came sim unlocked also
I just got one from ebay, and I had to security unlock it and install appropriate radio to get it working on at&t
Will any of the GSM labeled AT&T work or is there one that's best?
forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=549939
will it work with umts 850????
do you know if someone got it working????
I just bought three of these off ebay that were 'unlocked'
yes it says 'your phone is sim unlocked' in the security tab but my ATT cards are not working
someone mentioned adding software or something. can someone please show me how to do this asap. we kinda counted on having the phones today.
i bought a us cellular on ebay as well. had to security unlock it. Got code from this site and then bought from olipro. this should help.
http://rhodiumw.htc-unlocks.com/
http://pocketnow.com/tweaks-hacks/unlock-the-sprint-touch-pro2-radio-to-get-us-gsm
the first one you have to but then the second link you need to watch to get the imei number before you buy unlock stuff. hope this helps. trin to give back what i learned.
There are two different kinds of SIM Unlocks
There is the stock SIM unlock which allows you to use the sim card for other countries. You click on settings, and sim management and it says the sim is unlocked. However, that does not mean that you can use it with ATT or TMobile here in the united states. Reboot your phone and you will most likely see that your radio says something like 2.10.00WF The WF is what is screwin you over with ATT. You need to pay for and use the SIM unlock from Olipro, (there are tons of links already for it.) and unlock the phone. Then put a WU radio on it. I find that the best one that works for USCC is the 1.96.10WU Radio. It has the least amount of DATA crashes. Hope that helps ya out a bit.

weird. olinex recomended the 2.32.00wu radio over all the others. but seeing as how my data connection never wants to stay open, maybe i will give that one a try.
Ok so i got the paid unlocking tool and ran it. it appears to have worked.
I then went to this link
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=578659
and installed both the us cellular and sprint (the first and fourth link).
was that a mistake?
Anyway it doesnt say att when i put in a non active sim card.
is it still ready to use? also when i install the radios should it be in global or gsm mode or does it matter?

YOU SHOULD BE BANNED FOR TROLLING AND MAKING FALSE STATEMENTS! YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT!...
Why don't you go ahead buy a CDMA TP2 phone and flash a GSM radio or ROM, go ahead. And make someone record your face and the device. Let's see how you enjoy turning a working phone into a black death piece of hardware that will not respond or do anything.
You better delete your post before someone that doesn't know any better follow your misguided advice and brick their phone!
@DaveNavy,
Read up a bit on this device before advising people. Flashing a GSM rom on a native CDMA device (RhodiumW) is the best and fastest way to end up with a brick. Please make sure about these things before you post anything like this again.
@ all,
Please stop the flaming right here.

Works great using windows 7. I am running Att with data smooth now.

myTouch 4G Slide sim unlocking

Here we go with yet another unlock solution.
This one applies to almost (if not all) devices which are radio S-off, it’s fairly easy to use and doesn’t wipe data/settings nor have that ugly side effect (when using diag files) in which you lose conectivity to mobile network.
Supported devices so far:
HTC Sensation (pyramid)
HTC Evo 3D (shooter)
HTC EVO 3D GSM (shooteru)
HTC myTouch Slide 4G
Click to collapse
(by the use of revolutionary)
and:
Sprint EVO 4G
Droid Incredible (HTC Incredible)
HTC Desire CDMA (HTC BravoC)
Click to collapse
(by the use of unrevoked 3 – not tested)
These are the required steps you have to take:
1. S-off your phone by using Revolutionary (if you haven’t already done that).
2. Fill in the form with the required data. This will generate an unique Config.dat file for your device. Please enter a valid email address, as you’ll be sent there the link to download the file.
This step you'll have to take here
3. Put the file on the root of your sdcard and reboot your phone into HBOOT (adb reboot oem-42). Once you’re there, navigate to Simlock and press Power. The phone will load the file and remove the simlock. Some text will appear on the screen and at a certain point you’ll be asked to press Vol-Up to restart the phone.
4. Just do it, and you’ll be done!
PLEASE NOTE!:
This solution is heavily linked to the device it's being applied to by the use of IMEI, which can be considered a breach in security.

Not for certain circumstances.. T-Mobile will only give it you you if you meet some criteria.. i.e. you're account has been active for 6 months.. I don't know what the actual criteria are.. that was just an example...
not to mention that you have to wait over 24hours to get the email with the unlock code.. this method was a lot faster than a half hour phone call with a t-mobile rep.
I was a customer for about 6 days and was given the code over the phone.

Just unlocked my friend's MT4GS and it works great with her prepaid running on AT&T's network! This method works great.

Rev is used to gain s off that's all. Which allows unsigned flashing
As for the unlock methods you may want to test this out my sig has this method and one using terminal emulator method no idea if they will work.

my touch 4g Slide NO CALLS with S-off sim unlocked METROpCS
So its 2014.. I know I should get a better phone.. Good news its I got my my touch 4g slide bootloader unlocked and S-off. Also did the sim unlock on the site that emails you back the file and unlocks the sim.. BUT here is my problem
when I put my metro sim in the phone.. no matter which rom I load (which I can now load rom recovery from sd) the phone wont work..
When I go into the settings metropcs and att show up but when I try and select it, it tells me not allowed right now, or sim card doesn't allow that connection. So I cannot get it to work. Is there a way they are locking sim cards to their phones?
I would have thought getting S-off and running the simlock file I'd be good to go.. Anyone PLZ help I am desparate to figure out what is wrong here.
Picture Of S-off UNLOCKED bootloader NO SVC
Here is a picture of the phone.. Likewise no SVC with metro sim.. I don't have a tmobile card to test with but I think either the sim lock didn't work, or metropcs is somehow locking the sim to IMEI
Anyone with ideas here plz help. If it is IMEI to sim is there a way to unlock sim or change iMEI? I know its illegal to change an ESN but imei..
Also if its blacklisted would it be blacklisted for metro too?

So I thought of a couple things. With a little research, one got shot down right off the bat:
http://www.phonescoop.com/carriers/carrier.php?c=11
http://www.gsmarena.com/t_mobile_mytouch_4g_slide-4018.php
Some carriers use weird frequency bands that the phone wouldn't support. MetroPCS uses 1700 or 1900MHz (depending where you are), which the phone totally covers. So not that.
Related to that though, is the APN settings. If you have more than one (my Rogers setup has 4), it may be stuck on an APN that just isn't working for you. So Settings > Mobile Networks > Access Point Names.
Finally (just thought of it), you may want to test your MetroPCS SIM card on a different (smart)phone. I had recent problems with my SIM (I guess it was swapped out too many times, besides being 6-7 years old), although it worked fine on a feature phone. And if you can get your hands on a different SIM (T-Mobile or otherwise), and encounter the same problem, it could very well be a (hard-to-resolve) problem with the phone. If it is blacklisted, it would be blacklisted nationally if not internationally, and there is an IMEI database to check it against:
http://www.imei.info/
Hope this helps.
Check your imei for blacklist status on the tmo website. MetroPCS is now wholly owned by TMo, it shouldn't need to be unlocked. AT&T and Tmo share blacklist data as well. If your phone is sketchy you are out of luck.
If the SIM is old you might try a new one and see if that helps.

I was looking into this, and this forum thread came up:
http://www.howardforums.com/showthr...-married-to-ESN-of-one-phone-only-that-sucks!
Looks like you can transfer phones by letting MetroPCS know of the new IMEI, but you cannot register two (or more) IMEI's for the same SIM. So depends on how you want to use your Doubleshot. I'd give them a call (or better yet, go into their store), maybe the old IMEI will still work (the thread was a bit iffy on this result) with the new (Doubleshot) one entered.
Thanks

Wow! so that's a bummer. I really like the doubleshots keyboard but I think the exhibit from them is better. Although I tried several firmwares on it and Netflix will no longer work with custom roms (thank DRM for that) I did get hella mods to this one, but would love to have both, I was thinking the sim was somehow locked. I have a sim reader any software to check? copy clone??? new to GSM, but know lots about CDMA.. I wish it were easy to just clone IMEI like ESNS

Questions before AT&T Band unlock

Picking up a Droid 2 Global today in hopes of doing the Band unlock hack.
I understand it must be on Froyo to do this, and I am buying from a random/normal guy on Craigslist. In the off chance he upgraded to Gingerbread, could it be reverted to stock Froyo for the hack? I wanna put Hexen on it eventually.
Also, we went back and forth for a while, and he finally told me Verizon gave him the unlock code.
How do I "use" the unlock code and how can I tell if it's working or not?
So basically, it's...
- Buy Droid 2 Global
- Unlock Code
- Make sure its on Froyo and do the band unlock
- Flash Hexen
Am I missing anything? Thanks a lot!
Right.
You can still flash back form 2.3 to 2.2
Just bear in mind the "Unlock" step may prove to be hard to get. Given the fact you live in US, it is likely you could get "a hand" from a friend of yours on Verizon to get it unlocked. Just in case online unlockers can't.
Also - 2.4.xxx firmwares (Froyo) are known to have issues with HSPA connectivity - so called 'radio resets', in other words - be ready for not very fluent experience with this phone.
Personally I'd advise against going this way. Get yourself a Desire Z - much better modding capabilities and no hassle with unlocking/using it on any GSM network anywhere worldwide..
Wanted to make new thread to ensure responses, but don't wanna clutter XDA either so here goes. I'm buying a Droid 2 Global soon for my bro and wanna use with AT&T, so I have some questions
1. Does it matter what SBF or version is on it? I'm under the impression that it can all be flashed to the correct ones that I want to use.
2. Seller does not have unlock code, but he is a Verizon customer (just got iPhone 4S) and has assured me that he will get unlock code with me at meetup.
So basically, how do I reach Verizon/get unlock code (I think I can call 611 with HIS iPhone)? And how do I input it? And how do I know when its complete?
And anyone have a simple guide on how to do the process of flashing and applying the hack? I know its a search away so links would be nice (on mobile)
Thanks a lot XDA

if im unlocked, on 4.5.608 and N_01.48.00R
will the HSPA still suck?
I dont have an ATT sim right now but did the flashing, etc in case I ever did...
To get the unlock code from VZW, the phone needs to be on a Verizon line of service, and the account must be in good standing for the past 6 months.
As for firmware versions, you need 2.4.29 as the base. I'm not quite sure if it's possible to update to any other version leaving the baseband intact. 2.4.330 won't work.
And yes, HSPA will most probably still suck because it's a problem with the baseband firmware.
I followed
http://rootzwiki.com/topic/8326-d2g-gingerbread-hack-for-us-band-unlockers/
to leave the baseband but move forward for the overall rom.
I guess i'll need to get an att sim for the fun of trying out the 'bad' HSPA
I know it basically worked because I could use an available tmobile sim for a basic phone test - no att test as of yet.
Just an FYI. When I had an ATT SIM for testing I regularly pulled 6-7 Mbits tethering on it despite the so called "bad HSPDA+" radio performance of the original firmware versions.
This was freind's mother's SIM who had passed away and was an old basic feature phone plan that I added a 15/month unlimited data feature to when I borrowed it for a few months.
I used it primarily for tethering and testing various radio builds etc. when we were first working on it.
The low bars is a feature of the VZW Global phone configuration and not an actual signal issue.
The radio performance of networks outside the US may vary greatly from user reports and I have no experience with international use, but on ATT the GSM/HSPDA+ performance was generally excellent or at least quite useable.

[Q] Unlocked D2G Working On TMobile US But Questions Remain

Hi,
I'm actually not new to XDA, I 've been a member for about 3 years and used to screw with my old broken HTC G1 all kinds of ways. So ignore the newbie status, I forgot all the old login info and had to re-roll.
Anyway, so now I have a sweet shiny Droid 2 Global that I bought off a ebay for a very nice $149 buy it now in used but excellent condition.
It was listed as unlocked and obviously indeed is because I am running it on Tmobile with a tmob simcard in Dallas, tx. So, I can make calls, internet works and is ok but only on edge (2G), signal is generally pretty good overall.
My questions (after days of searching and reading up, don't tell me to search) Are these:
1. Am I already band unlocked? I can already use tmob's edge/2g, and I can see AT&T's 2g and 3g networks when I search but I can't connect to them or they don't work if I do i'm guessing because i'm on a tmobile sim and obviously can't logon to at&t.
2. If it isn't band unlocked, would doing so unlock tmobile's 3g or is that just straight up not compatible and never going to happen with or without a band unlock?
3. If not with tmobile np, can I get 3g with at&t? Especially since I already can see their 3g network when searching.
4. Wether or not I am running a custom rom or the stocker....
It says it's running 2.4.330 A956.verizon.en.us kernel android version 2.2 kernel version 2.6.32.9 build number VZW
Not sure if this is the stocker or a pre-installed XDA Rom. It boots to a clockwork recovery tool screen too before actually booting into android. Is that something added on or is it on the phone already?
Thanks in advance for any help, so happy to have a badass new phone to screw with.
1. Sure seems like it. You wouldn't be able to use the T-Mobile SIM at all otherwise.
2. T-Mobile uses 1700MHz. The D2G does not support 1700MHz. Period.
3. Yes.
4. 2.4.330 is stock Motorola Froyo firmware.
In your case it would probably be better to SBF your phone to 2.4.29 or 2.4.330, and follow the instructions in the band unlock thread to get you to Gingerbread with band unlock.

1. Sure seems like it. You wouldn't be able to use the T-Mobile SIM at all otherwise.
2. T-Mobile uses 1700MHz. The D2G does not support 1700MHz. Period.

I would be very careful with doing an SBF to an unlocked phone. An SBF would rewrite the radio firmware and very likely undo the unlocking that's in place.
The only way that it would be safe to do so is if he still had the unlock code, then he could just re-unlock and re-apply the band unlocker after SBF'ing.
Thanks for the replies. So I guess i'm looking at switching carriers at some point for the 3g. Honestly the 2g isn't that bad though. Plus I heard that since att failed to acquire tmobile, they ended up cutting some deal to share some att tech with tmobile. So some areas will get 1900 mhz 3g at some point. Probably won't happen to me but oh well.
As for the rom, I don't think I want to update just yet. I have no unlock code since it came that way already.
If I get a code though, since it's already unlocked and rooted (i'm assuming),
Do I just toss the sbf file on an sdcard and run the update? I've installed roms on my old G1 but I don't know the exact process on the D2G yet.

SBF files are something else completely. SBF files contain images for every aspect of the phone, from Radios, to the operating system, kernel, and more. Think of an SBF file as a Windows CD. It helps to wipe the entire system clean and installs everything factory fresh.
SBF files reside on your hard drive, and they are flashed to the phone with a Windows app called RSD Lite. The current version is 5.6. There are links to it everywhere around the forums.

Not sure if you read my post at all.
I stated that the safest bet is to perform everything from the start, including the band unlock process.
Why the hell would someone need the unlock code at all on a device that was already SIM unlocked?
I bought my phone off eBay, unlocked, and I have no SIM unlock code stored anywhere. I SBF'd it at least 20 times by now.

Well in this case, this is good knowledge to have. I presumed that an SBF would essentially erase a SIM Unlock because it rewrites essentially every bit of data stored in the phone.
Looks like there's something else going on in these phones when they get SIM unlocked. It's nice to know that SIM unlocks are truly permanent.
I am getting a prompt now for the new OTA update. Will this be safe to do in my phone's current state then? I just keep putting it off for now because I don't want to lose any of the sim unlock or my data ability.
I know it doesn't do much, but I think it might help my battery life which drains 90% every day with only very light use and only 2g data.
It appears that I am going to be stuck on tmobile until 2013 but I can probably deal, or trade it... So I want it to be the best it can be without being fast on data obviously.
SIM lock state doesn't change.
If you're on T-Mobile USA, you definitely have the US band unlock hack performed and if you update you will lose it with no way to rollback to 2.4.x baseband.
90% battery spent per day is normal for Froyo. I get 26 to 32 hours with light use on 3G with WiFi and GPS enabled on stock 4.5.608, used to get 16 hours on 2.4.330.
Hmm, well can I flash the new one. I was reading this earlier:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1437177
Would that do the trick?
Otherwise, is there a way to stop it from promting me from updating?
If you flash the 4.5.608 SBF image, you'll lose your US band unlock.
To disable OTA:
Rename /system/app/BlurUpdater_VZW.apk, /system/app/BlurUpdater_VZW.odex, and /system/etc/security/otacerts.zip by adding .bak to their names (e.g. otacerts.zip.bak).
Ok, I will rename those for now. I was using Astro and it said permissions no allowing me to rename so so I am going to try another browser app.
So is there nothing I can do to get this update done and get back on tmobileusa? There's a way to band unlock it again isn't there?
How many times needs one to repeat that
USA GSM BAND UNLOCK IS ONLY SUPPORTED ON THE BASEBAND FIRMWARE THAT COMES WITH 2.4.29 AND 2.4.330 FIRMWARE
?
Well that's retarded, thanks motorola/verizon for steering me away from ever purchasing one of you phones again. Looks like I will be trading or selling my phone after all. I had an offer to trade for a samsung vibrant which can be flashed to gingerbread and has a bigger, nicer looking amoled screen that I think I will go ahead and do that. Way to screw up your customer base motorola. I USED to like you guys.
Did you mean: “OMG I'm a US GSM user and I wanted to use a Motorola CDMA handset made exclusively for Verizon on my GSM network and Motorola are such jerks because they won't let me”?

Seriously. I have no idea why he's being such a big baby about this. The phone was designed to Verizon's specifications by Motorola. It was designed to not work with Tmo/ATT from the very start. This was known by everyone at the time of the phone's release.
We were lucky in the first place to even get the ATT/Tmo hack. If someone isn't willing to put in the work to accommodate the requirements of the hack then this phone isn't for you.

I'm not, man. I already know why this is and have known since about 5 posts ago. BTW I bought this phone off of ebay a month ago and it was 'listed as unlocked for att&t, tmobile etc' WTF am I supposed to think when I read that? Stop projecting your in-depth knowledge onto all people like it's 'common' knowledge. It's not. That's like saying I should know Obama's favorite food or whatever the hell else for example. I don't know that nor do the vast vast vast majority of people. You know who does know that? Somebody who looked it up!
The only way somebody would know that this phone is locked out of tmob's 3g is by looking that up specifically. I would like to point out that I had the phone for at least a week prior to posting at all, all the while reading up on how to get my 3g before the kind folks on the 1st page answered the final question I had about that (which is the only way I know that now). So it took at least a week of researching to discover this.... We should really close and lock this thread since it's just wasting space with my displeasure about this phone purchase. $5 says this whole ordeal is the very reason the guy was selling the phone in the first place!! (He said he was currently using it on tmobile when I asked if it was unlocked for tmob...)

Unlocked my USA ATT phone, trying to get it working in Poland

I thought this was going to be pretty easy, since a few people told me that all I had to do was get ATT to unlock the phone, insert a Polish SIM card and I would be good to go. I'm having problems right off the bat. I'm in rural Poland and I only have a limited amount of time to use a connection shared by lots of people, so I can't exactly research the problem for hours and hours. I'm asking here as a last resort. I would love to even offer a reward of $20 USD or bitcoin if someone can help me get this working, I know there are sites out there that let you do this but I don't have time to find them. If someone wants to help me, I can set up the reward and would gladly pay it.
Anyway, the first problem I'm running into is at first inserting the new T-Mobile Poland SIM, and entering the unlock code provided by ATT, it says the unlock was unsuccessful. I'm not sure if it'll be easy to use after this point.
After successfully unlocking the SIM, I think there might be a couple of steps I have to do. Would I need to put a new baseband/radio on it? I currently have 0.19as.32.09.11_2_10.105.32.25L.
I'm also running Cyanogen Mod 10.1-20130307-NIGHTLY-evita, kernel version 3.0.67-GC33BB4D [email protected] #1 Thu Mar 7 00:33:22 PST 2013.
The last thing I think I might need to set is the Network Operator and APN setting.
I'll try to check back in 12 hours and 24 hours.
Thanks very much.

The basebands are hardware. You cannot change them, if the basebands supported by the phone do not match the carrier, it won't work.
Secondly, from what I understand unlocking will not work on CM. You need to flash a sense rom to unlock, you can flash CM back on after.
Lastly, yes you will need to enter the proper APN settings for the new carrier.
Good Luck.
*edit* I just read you're offering a reward. I did not help you for the reward and no reward is necessary, please let me know if this advice helped get it working so I know for future reference.

If I'm lucky I can finish downloading a sense rom and try to do some stuff offline. I'll let you know if it works tomorrow.
Thanks very much.
Regarding the baseband hardware, I know there are some hardware components but I thought there were different firmware or some such versions you can load to it.

You can flash different radio firmware images which will improve/decline signal but network compatibility will not change:
2G Network
GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900
3G Network
HSDPA 850 / 900 / 1900 / 2100
4G Network
LTE 1800 / 2600
As said, revert to a Sense ROM, and try the unlock code again.
If it still doesn't work, there is a reputable cheap eBay seller who sells unlock codes for HTC phones including the One XL. I got my unlock code off him when my carrier code didn't work.
PM me if you want to know the sellers details/link.
Sent from my HTC One XL using xda app-developers app
