[Q] Trouble with 3D Movies - LG Optimus 3D

The problem I'm having is that I'm trying to get a 3D movie on my phone. Having read up I knew that I needed a 3D side by side MKV in order to be able to play it on my phone. Now the 3d MKV of Avatar (I know its not a fantastic film but it looks good in 3D) is just over 16gb in size.
So after further searching I found this http://community.sprint.com/baw/thread/71354 ... which shows how to convert a file for the Evo3d using freemake video convertor. But thinking that they would be the same I followed this but obviously changed the screen size to 800x480.
Now this resulted in a file which was just over 2gb. But the thing is when i tried to play the video it played in 2 halves, so I tapped the 3D icon and it still played in 2 halves.
My question is how can I convert this down to a reasonable size and be able to play in on my phone in 3D... Just because I wanna show my phone off
EDIT: After a bit of further searching I've managed to find the answer by total accident... lol... All I needed to do was press the 3D button then press the menu button and pick the side by side option and viola it worked. Looks pretty damn good too

I had the same problem. You just need to tap a menu panel (On left on touch panel, next to home) and choose 3D Formatter. Then you should have some 3D formatting options

Thought O3D Played SBS, Wrong Extension?

Alright guys, phone's finally charged starting to test it out.
I have a short looney toones clip that is half sbs and an .mkv. It shows in the video player and I can play it but get what would be the same as playing in media player on a PC, the two frames side by side instead of put together.
I tried changing the extension from .mkv to .sbs to see if the phone would recognise it as 3d but couldn't see the file then. Have searched the forum but couldn't see anything relvant. Any help appreciated. Thanks
You have to do it in the options
1. when the file is playing press the 2D button to make it 3d.
2. press the menu button while its playing or paused and click 3D formatter.
3, choose L/R if its side by side and it will show it in 3D, if its top bottom choose that option.
4 Press ok and it will be in 3D, you can use the 3D slider to make it how you want but I rarely mess with that and leave it all the way over the right.
Ah, top man.
Fyi, anyone that want's a video that really shows off the O3d then 'Looney Tunes Fear of Flying' is a fantastic HD video 3 mins long that just blew me away.
Finding this thing if fatiguing my eyes more than I thought it would though!
I was the same with the eyes give me some real eye ache for 3-4 days or so, but they soon adapt to it and it won't bother you soon enough.

[Q] how to detect 3D source movie?

Hi
I download some 3D movies (with left/right screen showing in laptop) with .wma file type.
However, the optimus 3D cannot detect it is 3D and even I use 3D function the phone just make it 3D but left/right screen just playing the same time
anyway to tell the phone it is 3D source?
thanks
Are you sure they are .wma? WMA files are meant to be audio only (Windows Media Audio) so shouldn't have video and therefore would not play in 3D if they were another format that had simply been mislabelled. Or do you mean wmv and it was a typo?
There are various things you can try.
It is possible it is an mp4 file and that the header is simply corrupted. If the video file is an mpeg 4 but for some reason not being correctly recognised you can patch the header (takes a few seconds on a pc) using the free software called Mp4Cam to Avi (http://www.google.co.uk/url?sa=t&rc...ze3QCA&usg=AFQjCNEMl4yuInKgQTIOVIsqx5px2E4MJg) which will patch the header to make it a fully compliant mpeg 4 video file.
You can transcode the file using free software like Super (http://www.google.co.uk/url?sa=t&rc...nPCWCQ&usg=AFQjCNFJQYHaPCRa5vQsYmSTXhTLw5x4gA). This will make it another format instead (mpeg 4 is a good option if your file is in an incompatible format).
EDIT: Assuming the phone is in landscape mode (the only mode 3D videos will play as 3D in) when the videos play if you touch the screen you see a button say 2D. Click that to make it 3D but if the button does not work or does not appear try restarting your phone and when it has restarted they may play.
Dave
Thanks! That is wmv.
I figure out a way to combine the left/right screen into one. it is unexpectedly easy just play the files (whatever video) in 3D mode, then choose the option by the left key, then I can choose the left/right combine in the screen (either L/R, R/L, top/down or as a whole combination)
thanks!

Now working. Just need to reset the phone after download 3d movies.
Tkx.
If you download the free app called "rescan media" from the android market you shouldn't need to restart phone. What this does is tell O3D you added new files and then makes it check them and add them to the galleries which is also what happens when you restart the phone or unmount the sd card.
Dave
Nice one... Thanks.

[Q] 3D Videos

First, I would like to say I hope I posted this in the right place. so my my problem is that my LG O3d can play 3d videos that I have made with the camera and 3d videos from youtube. but if I transfer a 3d movie from my computer it displays as side by side on the phone. I've tried converting the video into different formats and using different codecs but to no luck. if someone could help me work out how to fix this I would appreciate it, so far i have only found out how to do it on the evo 3d, so I'd appreciate any help that could be given. thanks in advance.

I believe there's an option in the video player settings that allows you to change how the 3d movie is viewed, ie side by side.

could you tell me how to get to this setting because i can't seem to find it anywhere.
Turn 3d Mode on
Then, go Menu>3D formatting>L/R SBS
It works on every video, even non 3D ones.
When playing the video, push the 3D Button, then Menu (capacitive one), 3d Formatter, then select one of the options, Sbs, etc

Watching 3D Movies on the LG Optimus 3D

For the last few weeks, I’ve been experimenting with different video codecs and 3D converters to make movies such as Tron Legacy and Avatar watchable on my phone without 3D glasses. The problem was that the phone would not recognize the 3D content, even if I used the official H.264/MPEG-4 AVC codec for BlueRay 3D. Tonight, I stumbled on the solution. Here are the steps to get the movie to show on the LG Optimus 3D:
Obtain a 3D stereoscopic movie and make sure the frames are side by side (as shown below). Also verify that the file format of the movie is compatible with the LG Optimus 3D (H.264, H.263, DivX, MKV, WMV-9, ASF, AVI, 3GP and MP4). Also, if you are planning to use an external MicroSD card, the movie must be smaller than 4GBs (as Android only recognizes the FAT file system) or cut up into smaller than 4GB parts. Note that most native BlueRay 3D movies are enormous (over 17GB)!
Once the movie is on the phone (via USB host on MicroSD or on the hard drive itself), play the movie using the Gallery app. Click on the little 3D icon at the bottom right of the screen. The movie will still show side by side, but will enter 3D mode.
Click the Android options button (the icon looks like a solid box inside a clear box at the bottom left of your phone) and you will get the following options:
Click on the 3D Formatter option. It will provide you with a number of 3D options including Left/Right, Right/Left, Top/Bottom and Fullscreen 3D. Select Left/Right (first option on the left, as shown below):
A message will appear that says: “This 3D data is saved as valid 3D contents with the formatter which you’ve chosen“. From that point on, the phone will recognize this movie as 3D and the little 3D icon will appear at the bottom of the movie. The good news is, as soon as you launch it, the movie will run in 3D.
Enjoy your movie!

the gallery dont update and i can find all folders, for that reaseon i cant play movie in 3D? what can i do???

Are you using a custom ROM that doesn't have 3D, like CM7?
If not, maybe try renaming the files to .avi to get the player to recognise them.
Or navigate to the files using a file explorer without the video player open and then open them from the file explorer..

You guys are doing it all wrong...
First off, get MeGUI for PC, re-encode your 3D movies (I don't care what source, there's plenty of tutorials online) as a SBS (Side-By-Side) to ~1.5GB @ 800x448 (16:9), with whatever audio you want. (I usually reuse the original 5.1) Compile your results as .mkv
Get the application 3DV Player (Chinese android app, works on both Froyo and GB), and load up your re-encoded 3D SBS MKV file, hit the 3D button at the top right, and adjust your depth to your preference, and viola.
The LONGEST and most DIFFICULT part of this is the encoding in MeGUI and it's really not all that difficult as it is long. I've already done this for Tron: Legacy (SUPER BEAUTIFUL btw), and Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs, and plan on doing more of my 3D collection (which i'm now building because of this phone). It's worth the effort, especially when you can fit upwards 4 full length 3D movies onto 1 8gb SD card (or 2 movies on the phone's memory with space to spare).

CyanogenMod does NOT SUPPORT 3D. Therefore NO 3D FEATURES WILL WORK. Please check if your ROM supports 3D before attempting to do anything in 3D. There are a lot of ROMs floating around the forums that DO support 3D, like Prometheus ROM and Acidhazard Kitchen, try installing one of those and try again.
For anyone else reading this thread, CM DOES NOT SUPPORT 3D. Please do not post that CM does not support 3D, it's right there on the CM thread that it DOES NOT SUPPORT 3D OR HDMI OUT. Please read all disclaimers!
I know that. I'm using Prometheus. Just explaining it could be the guy's problem

I thought you were replying to me, not expounding on my previous instructions to elaborate that he couldn't do anything in 3D.
Once you have it re-encoded to fit the 2gb limit, and with the SBS or Half-SBS format, play it, it will not be 3d YET, switch the 3D toggle, capacitive menu button, 3d formatter, then choose the sbs format and voilá.
has anybody tried micro sd formarted to ntfs to bypass the 4gb limit i think iblumind`s and sano`s kernels had ntfs support
You don't need to format the SD card with my method, my method maximizes the space taken since we DON'T need 1080p 3D or even 720p 3D on our phones. I don't know why everyone's going about trying to fix the phone for the video file when it's FAR easier (and FAR more productive) to fix the video file for the phone! Also the battery drain (even using hardware acceleration) to decode 1080p, even 720p is greater than if you encode at the native res of the phone.
Oh hmr007 so genius. Now we can play 3d 1080p movie x264 avc like from yify on Optimus 3D. 2011 hardware
Unfortunately the subtitle will crash. So the subtitle srt file removed. Fle video on mp4 btw. Example video.mp4 video.srt
Srt will crashed the player on 3d
How about LG 3D 2? It work or not?

If you remove your battery or hard reboot, you have to repeat this procedure as the phone "forgets" this setting.
Good luck, keith
This doesn't seem to work for me. Neither Gallery nor 3D Gallery has the option to go 3D for the movies, except movies I have shot with camera itself.
This is frustrating

If the sbs videos are compatible they will display as side by side videos i.e two identiical frames. While the video is playing touch the screen press pause and press the 2D/3D on screen icon, press the menu button on the bootom of the phone and from the pop up select 3D formatter. touch the sbs icon on the bottom of the selector and all should then be O.K
Yep, this is definitely what I've been attempting to do.
The video appears side by side (for reference it is a LG Demo video) but alas, no 3D button...
Like none. No button.
Would this be a resolution thing?

So I finally got some time to screw around with this and nothing works.
I mean literally nothing. I'm starting to think I have to upload the Video to Youtube, then re-download it to get it to work on this phone, and that's a far stretch.
Can someone actually post screens on how this is done? I am starting to think that the 3D capability of this phone is just B.S. if you can't import files to it.
One other thing I'd like to mention, the programs to which the tutorials suggest aren't the same version or appear to have a different UI and/or presets missing from them.

Are you running FROYO? Stock ROM?
I am running this ROM:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1963847
Maybe it is a different Gallery/Video Player?
The ICS video player seems to be unchanged from the gingerbread version. I have Used the method I described in earlier post to get sbs video to work correctly on stock rom . The ROM you are on may be different, maybe if you post a thread in the rom's own thread some help may be found there. You could ask for a download for the video player from there or a link to a compatible player. Sorry I can't be more help.
Good luck.

Happy to be of service. Have you checked out the video section on the app ? Lots of vids to watch and download. :good:
I did. Interesting. Lots of them are in Chinese (obviously).
They need a good crowd sourced translation team to get their program up to snuff.
