Roms Compatibility - General Questions and Answers

Can I install an evo 4g rom or a HD2 rom on evo 3d?
What is the difference between those roms?
I want to install a windows phone 7 rom so why there isn't a windows 7 rom for the evo 3d while the HD2 has one?
thx in advance

Every device is different. It will have a combination of Hardware that is specific to that device. Each and every ROM therefore needs to be tailor fit for a particular device.
Trying to install the wrong ROM would be like trying to dress a cow with a polo shirt and jeans.

dont try to do this..your mobile can be bricked..
because every cell have itx on hardwares and radio versions..
dont try to put a wrong rom in another phone..
go to the main page of XDA Develpers chose the right phone and right rom and flash it..njoy

thx to u all

Quickest way to brick your phone ?
Flash a rom from another phone.
No it is not possible unless someone specifically ports the elements of the rom into the architecture of a behold rom, such as a Mega rom for the Kaiser, or the many Leo roms for the TP II
That's what I meant? Like is it possible?

No it is not possible. It is made for the hd2
Yes it is. But only if you make the kernel and other software compatible with the behold. You can't just flash the rom.

[Q] Camcorder doesn't work quite right on my HTC HD2 android 2.2

I have since a few days android 2.2 on my HTC HD2. Since yesterday works my camecorder not right. When I want to make a video is evereything normal. BUT when I want to stop it, everything disappears. I can't do anything only going back to home with the home button. And when I go back to my camcorder there is only a black screen. I can't make videos or photo's than.
I've searching long and I think I must update my ROM..is that correct??? But I don't know where I can find it...
How can I fixe this?? please help..
thx
it is probably due to camcorder not working in most android roms (apart from much earlier ones).
Not much you can do about it, but check out the rom thread.
OKaay...but how I know which ROM I need?? And where can I find it??
In the HD2 forum under Android you can find much rom's. Take a look at the nand rom from Dorimanx or the Typhoon rom from tytween. There are also instructions how to install that rom.
you can find here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=928
All right thanks both . but... I have android 2.2, doesn't matter if I take the one of typhoon or Dorimanx?? because it says that's android version 2.3.3. and android version 2.3.5
No that doesn't matter. You can install any android nand rom that is made for the hd2 on your HTC HD2.
But when you install another rom, make a back-up from your data. Because you're gonna lose it if you switch to a different rom.
I have the rom from Dorimanx on my phone and that works great.
But you can decide for yourself which rom you want.
Many thanks m8 !!
I want Dorimanx to...but I can't find where I can download the ROM :$
And which one....
I hvae found it i think...but wat's mirror 1 or mirror 2?? and when I click on downoad there comes a list of roms, which one should I take??
I have found it I think...but wats the different between mirror 1 and 2?? and when I click on download there comes a list with ROMS. Which one is correct??
loll... i have typ it twice xd
somee helpp please?? I want Dorimanx ROM but.. I don't know HOW to do this... Can somebody help me?? I have already android 2.2 on my htc hd2

[!!REQUEST!!] MIUI for P920 O3D

Hello all,
i'm trying to port or install the MIUI rom for Optimus 3D. I've tried some things, but i don't know how start.
Somebody can help me or tell if the port will be avaible some day?
(I'm trying to install 2.3 MIUI without 3D support) OMAp4 compatible ROM and port it.
The official miui webs for more info: www.miui.com www.miuiandroid.com
Best regards
Well MIUI is based on CM7 and we know that aremcee has got it running on O3D so in theory it should be possible, but I don't know of any other OMAP4 phones to port it from, which would probably mean building it from scratch which would be really hard to do...
Unless there is another phone with similar hardware running it, then you could pull bits from CM7 to try to get it running, but that would mean getting CM7 for the O3D and I don't think aremcee will release it until its running properly with all the 3D bits working

It is really a hard job dude. We should wait for CM7 at first.
It will not support 3d currently i guessed.
Sent from my LG-P920 using XDA App
guys cm7 is out (alpha) well now hope that the problems are getting killed, and i think after that miui will be available for our phones so again we have to wait

[Q] cyberjam 3g 2.1-how to make this app2sd compatible

hi,
as the title suggests, i would like to make a custom rom for this device... either modify the current 2.1 rom and make it app2sd compatible or make a 2.2 or higher rom that natively supports it...
i just need some info... firstly, which would be the easier thing to do?
if modifying the stock rom, what would i need to do 2 make it app2sd compatible?
if making a custom rom, how would i go about doing that?
i would imagine its possibly like getting a windows os and adding drivers for a specific machine before instalation... except in this case i think its a custom build.prop right? any help is much aprieciated...
oh and a final thought, if i make a mirror of the stock rom which bits can ibuse from it 2 aid me in the making of a new rom? id ideally like a 2.3.7 cyanogenmod7 rom just coz my current device (hd2) has a cyanogenmod7 rom and it works flawlessly... i do have a few hd2 android builds, can i disect these and modify them from what i have on the cyberjam?
basically i have a lot of apps and would like 2 have hardly any limitation on how many i can have as opposed to having 4-5 n gettin the memory getting full warning...
again, thanks in advance...
better still, add a forum for this device and have a big long list of compatible roms lol...
and finally, (another p.s)
there is a device which is very simmilar called a bsense 383.
now this does have a 2.2 rom available, only difference i can see is the cpu in the bsense is dual core aparently... the other hardware appears to be the same (haven't seen a list of every part inside both but the few parts i have seen are the same minus the aforementioned cpu)
so i look forward to your reply and hope that this is possible and plausable...
thanks, luke
31 views and noone can help me? come on xda community... surely someone can help me out...
Just read up on dsixda kitchen and once you get it installed in the right environment you can run pretty much any Rom through it and add that feature along with many other things. As long as you don't redistribute someone else's work, its ok.

[Q] Which rom is the best for my rooted phone?

Hi, I have recently rooted my Desire S, with revolutionary, clockwork etc, and I currently ported this rom HTC_DESIRE_S_2.3.5-2.10.401.4.zip
Everything is working just fine, but theoretically, when I decide to port a new rom, how would I know which will work, and which won't?
Actually, I'm waiting until ICS is released for desire s, so I can find it and install it...
Are there any methods to identify which rom would be compatible?
Thank you!

hey mate
your're actually talking about two different things: porting a ROM and flashing a ROM.
Porting means, you take a ROM from another device and modify it so it works on your device too.
flashing means, you take a ROM which is already optimized for your device
and install it, so you wipe the stock firmware and get a custom rom.
which of the two things is what you want to do? i think its just the flashing.
so you can take any ROM from the "development section", and if you follow the guides that you can find everywhere here im sure you will be succesfull and happy with it.
bytheway
there is no "best" ROM for your device. it all depends on what you need and want. there are alot sense 3.5 Roms, Endymion 3.4 is the one i would recommend. you can also try AOSP ROMs (android open source project, means no sense), cyanogenmod7 could be a good first choice. and you can also try ics right now, since there are at least 3 (?) ICS AOSP ROMs right now:
CM9, Virtuous Quattro RC3, IceColdSandwich
have fun!
Yes I meant "flashing" a rom
Thanks for all the information. That's the general idea I have as well, however I had this question because after I flashed another rom (official rom through htc sync - that could have been the problem) over my first flashed one , the phone was "bricked"....

i would never recommend to flash an official ROM over a custom ROM. But anyways, i think if you would have done a full wipe before flashing the official rom you wouldnt have got a "you call it brick"
a real "BRICK" is a useless phone, where there is no way to use it again.if there is still a way, its no brick.. but who cares about definitions
I recommend you to flash the ROMs only through recovery mode. AND ALWAYS DO A FULL WIPE BEFORE FLASHING A NEW ROM. very important
and dont forget to backup as always
Yes you are absolutely right. I'll have that in mind the next time I'll decide to flash a new one
Yeah the device wasn't completely useless, it hanged at boot...but I guess that was due to not following the right procedure as you previously described..
Thanks eyahl
Start flashing different roms and trying them for a day or two. First
Sens 3.0 and then sense 3.5 roms to see the difference. Only then you will know which rom is best for you.
+1 for Endymion 3.4,
+1 for Endymion
Swyped from my Desire S using XDA Premium
+1 Endymion
Sent from my HTC Desire S using xda premium
edymion, will try it
+1266592.23 for Endymion

Each ROM type suits different personal tastes, so there isn't an 'best' ROM for everyone. Trial and Error which ones suit you!
General opinions:
Stock
Pro: Straight from HTC, *newest kernel/drivers*, least likely to have compatibility issues.
Cons: HTC is slow to release updates, and sense interface is usually resource hungry.
Sense-like
Pro: usually keep the Sense interface, but custom kernals offer speed / various other improvements.Runnymead versions are kernals ported across from HTC Sensation (which offer some of the goodies like Beats Audio etc. that were not originally developed for Saga.
Cons: Sense interface is resource hungry...
CyanogenMod based
Pro: offer lots of customisations
Cons: not the most user friendly
AOSP
Pro: Roms from the android source, usually less resource hungry, so lighter and faster.
Cons: Obviously, no sense.
ICS Alpha/Beta
Not strictly a new category, but builds from the new Android 4.0 (ICS).
Currently some things (like camera) isn't fully working yet.
Note: new Desire S may suffer from camera/video lag bug with non-stock / non-sense ROMs, this is due to HTC putting in new hardware / driver into the new DS phones and the other kernels not reflecting this change yet.
Personally, I use SenseMOD Lite V1.2 build 2 as it is one of the few AOSP like builds that don't have the camera bug. Oxygen would have been best choice for me but unfortunately camera bug makes it unusable.
Hey guys. I don't want to drive over your feet, but I think the OP is already very satisfied with all those replies. specially the post above is really trying to help, but you spend much time to type what has already been written on the first page.
I appreciate your intend to help, bit I think the OP isn't gonna read this anymore..
