So I currently have a thunderbolt, and to be honest, I am technically outside the return policy with best buy, but I am trying to get them to agree to exchange the phone since in my opinion it is terrible. I have an evo 4G and it was a great phone, and the thunderbolt has the potential to be great, but the battery life, crappy screen, light leakage all around the capacitive buttons and spot lights on the screen from the capacitive buttons, is just terrible.
If they let me exchange the phone, I don't want to be an ass, and get a charge, only to turn around and exchange it for a thunderbolt again if the charge is that bad.
Anyone who has switched from a thunderbolt to a charge care to shout out how they feel about the switch?
CM7 support seems iffy for the charge, and I know I want a real CM7 for the thunderbolt not the alpha that works half the time, but if it has been that hard to get a well working CM7 on the thunderbolt, probably never happen on the charge? since the current GB leak from HTC is bigger than Froyo...
The screen, the battery life, and the physical buttons make me want this phone, but I don't want to switch if it means worse headaches than I currently have. No need to trade a demon for a devil.
If battery life is a big issue for you, then you might want to rethink the Charge unless you buy the bigger battery. But from what I can tell, if you buy the larger battery you also have to buy a new back cover as well. So figure spending an extra 50 bucks. In all, with my purchase I got a car charger and screan protecters and ended up paying 375 after taxes. Add an extr 50 for the battery and cover and your well over 425. As for the standard battery life, I have to charge it every day. I'd say if you use it alot through out the day it'll last about 5-8 hrs max. But I havent really took the time to tell exactally. Just know you want go a whole day without charging it.

I had the Thunderbolt and returned it for battery and reception issues, 1st i went with an iphone as i know they last forever on a charge, im a heavy business user and was getting 2-3 hours per battery with the TB ( i had to have 3 and swap them out thru the day ), i got the charge yesterday and ran the battery down to zero, then charged full, then blasted it back down which still took a while, back on charge over night, took it off charge this morning at 6:15am, ive been listening to music for a little over an hour, downloading market items, around 20 calls, 20 texts and 10-15 emails, and ive not used 25% yet
i love the charge, best thing i did was return the TB, the TB is a faster phone due the the extra 256mb of ram but not much thats gonna drive you crazy, im used to it already, also dont use the stock browser as it sucks, i also use launcher pro with my charge and it makes life a lot better again, give me the charge anyday, better screen, i think it looks better, i really like the physical buttons, you can hotswap sd cards ( not in the TB due to sd slot under battery) miles better battery, just over all better
I had a Thunderbolt for roughly 5 weeks and recently swapped to a Charge. So far, I'm very glad I made the change and plan on sticking with this phone until a dual core LTE phone is released. Here are the differences that I see :
Battery life: Charge definitely wins here, although I still wouldn't say the battery life is "good." The main difference seems to be idling. My Thunderbolt battery would drain VERY quickly while in my pocket. (assuming i was on LTE) The charge does not do this.
Screen: No contest. I did not care for the Thunderbolt screen and the Charge screen is amazing.
Software: Sense is far better than Touchwiz, although I don't personally care for either. Root for ED1/ED2 as well as clockwork mod was just released for the Charge, so it is only a matter of time before we have full roms that nuke the nasty orange and brown menus.
CDMA/LTE radio : Signal strength seems to be about the same for me on both phones, although I'm often on a "fringe" LTE area in Las Vegas. The Thunderbolt would always hang onto 1 bar of LTE leaving me with no data connectivity whatsoever. (not to mention draining the battery in record fashion) The charge sits on 3G in these areas - which i DEFINITELY prefer.
Also, I love the physical buttons and the lighter weight of the charge. Honestly, the touchwiz software and slightly laggy stock browser (easily fixed by downloading another browser on the market) are my only "complaints." I'd do the swap over again in a heart beat.

I second everything said here except the physical buttons.
I also had a TB for almost 5 weeks. I enjoy the Charge more, but honestly the lack of ram is very noticeable.
Either way, this will be me phone until dual-core LTEs come out (excluding Moto Bionic).

I did and the difference is day and night.
-A lot more battery life
-Amazing screen
-Screen does not scratch easy like TB did
-Weighs a lot less

So five weeks. Did verizon let you just exchange the phone? I am pretty sure best buy will let me exchange it as i will be a reward zone silver member in a few days, but just incase id love to know.
Edit - thanks for the feedback everyone, i am definitely interested in getting the charge now. I had the evo befor the thunderbolt and it had the 512 ram and ran fine. So i dont see that as being an isssue

The charge has the greatest screen I've ever seen on a phone. The physical buttons (IMO) are better than capacative buttons. Touchwiz is not that bad(this is coming from an HTC user for the last 2 years that has had and loved sense on an evo 4g and touch pro2).
Give the charge a shot u should enjoy it more than a thunderbolt

I have an ATT Nexus one and a desk dock. The N1 is 100 percent working but has been my daily phone for almost 2 years so has a little wear. The battery on oxygen or Super is more than a day but I have a new unused Google battery I can throw in.
I would not normally part with it but my Thunderbolt on Verizon now gets 2 days of battery life on Sense 3.5, so I do not need the N1 now even though I still carry it with me. PM me and I can set something up through paypal if you are really interested.

Disclaimer: This method may have been due to the fact that my device or digitizer (I'll explain further) was damaged or I had a lemon. But here is my story:
- Sold an unlocked 4S for $450
- Wanted to try out Android and hate Sammy devices...
- Decided to give HTC One X a try
- Didn't have an upgrade so had to buy an unlocked international version because it released earlier.
With my international HTC One X from Malaysia, I would barely squeeze out 2hrs of screen time, and would have to charge my device 2-3x a day, and have yellow light leakage and spots around the screen. The device would get hot and had screen flexing and sensitivity issues. Right out of the box it was glitchy and the OTA's didnt solve much. I went from ROM to ROM to ROM and battery saving apps to CPU controls for a solution. I would literally drop 2-3% every minute, and sometimes in a matter of 5 mins I would drop 8% battery. I did the built in Battery test and would get 90% after an hour and it would say batter health = good. All of this to no avail, I WAS FED UP!
I was sick of it and found someone who wanted an International One X and had an AT&T One X. He knew about the battery and screen issues but decided to trade anyway.
BOY OH BOY! The difference is night and day. It's been a few days and I have never been happier with a phone. I get close to 4 hrs of screen time on the same level of usage on one charge. 3-4 hrs of music, 1 hr web browsing, texting and phone calls all day, facebook/twitter 2-3 hrs. No heat issues and no dropoff in performance even with just 2 cores. NO LAG or random reboots at all. If anything the device feels faster! While in hoboken/nyc the other day I got 4G LTE (since AT&T doesnt have LTE all over jersey yet) and it was freaking amazing. Close to the speeds I get with my FiOS connection at home.
Anything with Nvidia in it or on it I've ever owned so far has been faulty and been a nightmare. Idk if its just my badluck or coincidence.
But thats my story. I talked to my engineer buddy and he said my phone deff had a bad digitizer/screen that was eating the battery unnecessarily.
Anyone with their thoughts?
Yea S4 is more power efficient than Tegra 3 the only thing it bests the S4 is in its graphical capabilities

This is awesome to hear. At first I was bummed they changed the processor but this story exemplifies why.
The only other gripe I have about AT&T's decision making is the storage. But what can you do? I don't listen to all of my music anyways.
Not to mention the wifi (squeeze test) crap.
Glad we have the less problem ridden version here.
I've never been happier with a phone.

I made the switch just as you did because battery life was terrible on the Tegra 3, due to a VERY outdated kernel and 40 nm?? whereas I believe the Snapdragon S4 is at 28 nm and a more recent kernel. That really does make a huge difference. I usually just text, fb, and browse the web and with auto-brightness, auto-sync and widgets on I get ~ 4 hours of use whereas on the Tegra 3 I got about < 2 hours. I was just as fed up and disappointed as you were.
Re: battery, I will say this:
Only charge it on the charger it came with. Charged it s couple time on my Touchpad charger, and while it appears to charge up faster, the battery will "drain" faster.
I haven't even opened the charger it came with >_<
The S4 is pretty superior in every single way besides gaming, but even then the S4 is pretty damn awesome haha.
Glad to see you are enjoying it.

Not sure I understand how that would be possible. If the battery is fully charged why would it drain any faster if it was charged by a different charging method?

My perception just from observing the international One X forum, is that the Tegra 3 SoC on the international versions is glitchy as hell, causing various serious issues, and that NVIDIA is notorious for being slow to fix these sorts of bugs.

I have been getting 4 hours of screen time since I got my one X on Saturday. Pretty consistently actually. Usually right at 4 and a half. I use it sporadically at work, usually 2 hours worth by the end of the day.
Then when I get home I do pretty much the same thing, I browse XDA while I wait for games to load on PS3 or Vita.
I do not stream music or anything.
Sync files with dropbox.
Wifi typically on.
Screen with auto brightness enabled.
Minimal game play (I have a PS Vita for that but I occasionally succumb to Words or Temple Run)
My idle time can go up pretty high if I so choose but I will only get the 4.5 hour screen time on auto. Which is good for me since that's what I got on my Atrix with the brightness at minimum most of the time

Best I ever saw was 3.5 hrs screen on time by the time I was down to 50%. Probably would have gotten 6+ hours if I kept it going. That was with very heavy internet/FB/xda over a 6 hour period.

I had the Rezound for about a year and finally could not take the battery life. I guess I'm a heavy user as I would get maybe 6-8 hours. I picked up a RAZR Maxx about a week ago and obviously the battery life is way better. I'm getting 1-1.5 days.
I'm considering switching to the S3 but want to have an idea of battery life as this is a top priority for me. I'm assuming it somewhere in between the Rezound and RM.
Any real world experience with all 3 devices?
Sent from my DROID RAZR using Tapatalk 2
My wife has the Maxx and I have the 32 gig sgs 3. Now we both live in an area with crappy reception, she gets maybe five more hours than I do. My sgs 3 is stock rooted, unlocked and I can get a full day use out of it with moderate use. The sgs3 is better than the rezound for batt life, but neither will compete with the battery life of the maxx. For technology and features the sgs3 is the best of the three hands down.

Battery is #1 but not the only thing. The speaker on my Maxx sucks, and reception is worse than the Rezound (Rezound was very good with reception).
So I would say my properties are :
1) battery
2) reception
3) sound (speaker and headset)
4) system performance

If batterylife is a big deal you could always get a extended battery (i think they have 3rd party nfc ones now) or buy the Samsung dock that come with a secondary battery and a spot to charge it.
the battery life is fine for most. i get 10-12 hrs of heavy useage(6-7hrs screen on). 20-26hrs light/ moderate useage(2.5-4hrs screen on)
im normally see -90/ -107db signal range on LTE

Are there good extended batteries that only add a reasonable amount of bulk? The Rezound extended battery is MASSIVE. So big I couldn't use it.

yes stock battery...also i use dark themes and wall papers, minimal widgets, no overclock, disabled most apps on start up, heavily debloated. little things like these make a huge difference.
Today I went 14 hours unplugged all on 4G with 2 hours on screen time and was at 50% battery. That is pretty awesome for a device like this if you ask me.
Someone needs to tell me how to get this battery life. Lol
Ya, I am in the same boat. Stock, with only rooting and unlocking, I am not getting anywhere near the times these guys are getting. I turned on all the battery saving tricks I could find, no dice!
I turned on the battery percentage thing next to the meter, and simple web browsing was destroying my battery in real time, to where I could see a 10% drop in about 15-20 min. Unacceptable, to the point I think I am going to try to exchange the phone this weekend. Luckily I carry an external battery pack so I am good... for now. LOL!
Man, sounds like times are all over the place. Doesn't really surprise me though since radio reception, user installed apps, and other things can have a huge impact.
I got a great deal switching from Rezound to Maxx (basically an even swap once I sold my accessories on ebay). Now I have a guy wanting to trade me his almost new s3 for my Maxx + $80. I don't think I can wrong with that deal.

I actually went from the maxx to this myself a couple weeks ago and couldn't be happier! Battery life isn't as good of course, but is still great. Root it and get a custom kernel on it ( something the RAZR can't do) and you'll be pleasantly surprised.

I am in a good 4G area all throughout the day. I do not turn any data or syncing off. I have it all on including GPS. I turn off wifi when I leave my house and I do not use Bluetooth. I have my backlight set on auto. In the 2 hours of my device use I woud say 1.5 hour of that was web surfing. I use the stock browser.
What I do turn off is all the motion options as well as the screens smart stay feature. To me, this has to be using some battery. How much I do not know but it is not anything I really need.
Besides that I do absolutely nothing special to the device and have no battery saving crap which usually uses more battery then saves it. lol
Also, if you are using 10% battery in 20 minutes you should see at least 3.5 hours of on screen time at the end of the day so I would not say that is bad. Now the question is are you in a good signal area? Are you on 4G or 3G? Do you have all the motion tweaks on or off? I do not think it is an issue with your device and exchanging it will probably not yield different results.
S3 battery is pretty dam good if you ask me

The way I use my phone(I am constantly streaming iheart radio, sirius online or SlingBox), I could never make it through a long work day with any phone stock battery except of course the RAZR MAXX. I had an extended battery on my Rezound.
I condidered the MAXX, but every time I look at the screen on a MAXX (my son bought one), I want to punch a baby.
I now use my G3 with the 4000+ Hyperion battery which is impossible to kill. I leave my screen timeout set to 'never turn off' as I have never even come close to killing the battery with the setup in my sig. That battery lasted for a week and a half when I put it in airplane mode for most of a trip out of the country lately.
Sure, it makes it heavier but I actually like that. It gives me a better grip on the phone especially with the matching Hyperion tpu case.
Go for the S3, Razrs are trash.

There is much more about this phone that pissed me off, but it was all over the place and needed to be "nuked" every month or 2 weeks. The softwere made me want to take a ak-47 to "test" the "cool" back to see if it can take a 7.62mm round to the "face". LOL
Verizon did make it right, but it took alot of push and fact checking to get them to swap phones. (Droid RAZR to S3)
hey guys.
I'm currently in the market for a new cell phone. i had the galaxy nexus for a month last year and i LOVED it but the battery life was just god awful imo. im currently use an iphone 4s (jailbroken) and i have no interest in the iphone 5. i LOVE my Nexus 7 and miss being have to have the same ICS/Jellybean UI for my phone. but im worried about battery life.
is the GS3 battery life any better than the galaxy nexus?
personally i would rather own the galaxy nexus being that its a nexus phone and and its stock rom is pure AOSP but being that i can flash AOSP roms on the GS3, i though why not, if it has a better battery life then heck yeah. plus the gs3 i can use a microsd card (even though 32gb's on the galaxy nexus and more than enough but still)
lmk how you battery life is guys. what would you guys recommend? 99 bucks for a galaxy nexus for 2 year renew contract or just get it unlocked on ebay for probably around the same price as a 32 gb gs3 on contract
I have never owned a Nexus. But those that have are saying the battery life on the S3 is better. I am impressed with my battery life, stock, rooted, unlocked, clean kernel. Also the hardware specs aren't even close. S3 all the way! The dev support is awesome with lots of ROMS to choose from as well. It is great now, but will only get better.

i routinely net 20+ hrs battery with 4hrs screen on...so yea battery life is legit on the s3.
I have the Verizon Galaxy S3 while my brother has the AT&T Galaxy Nexus.
Last weekend while tailgating for a football game he was complaining about battery life. We had both pulled our phones off the chargers about the same time and had been tailgating in the same spot for a few hours with similar use - texting a couple of phone calls, checking twitter, etc. (I had probably used mine a little bit more). He was at 80% while my phone was at 92%.
Now, this could be a GSM vs. CDMA thing, or other factors could be in play, but take that example for what it's worth.
I've used the Galaxy Nexus extensively and I just recently got a GS3; while I agree that the battery life on the GS3 is longer-lasting I also have to say that it is less manageable at this point. The GN has a ton of different kernel/ROM combinations and I can almost guarantee you can find one that will give you the same (if not better) battery life of the GS3; meanwhile, the GS3 has a larger battery out of the box (2100mAh vs 1850mAh) and is getting a larger amount of support more and more, I wouldn't be surprised if one day soon the GS3 has just as many options as the GN.
So, GN STOCK vs GS3 STOCK = GS3 Winner! I also have to put an extra tidbit in here, the GS3 takes sooooo much longer to charge than the GN, I'm talking an hour and a half longer almost, BUT it charges the battery to a full charge every time. The GN has problems doing that with the stock setup for whatever reason.

..i never herd of any gnex owner netting 20+hrs with 4 hrs screen on as many gs3 owners have. post some screen shots of your gnex doing the same and ill believe you!
Yep. what ^ he said. Gnex while it's got pretty ROMs and lots of developer support, it's still junk. forget about using speaker phone for taking on the phone, SQ is horrid even with good headphones, Bluetooth sound is so garbage.
I had the Gnex for about 11 months before buying GS3. I've had the GS3 for about 4 months now and I have to say, i get little more than 2x battery life compared to Gnex on comparable usage. Both on verizon LTE. I use speaker phone on regular basis for my conference calls. I leave Bluetooth on, GPS on, don't use power saving feature, receive about 100 emails per day with push,
No ROM or kernel will help you with ****ty hardware. Gnex talk time was 90min for me before hitting red zone, with GS3 i got 5 hours talk time plus 3 hours screen time before going yellow.
Right now there's no other phone that will beat GS3 other than Razr Maxx, don't know about iPoon5
I got 4 hours of screen on time out of my extended (2100) and 3 hours out of my stock battery all the time on Jelly Bean + Lean Kernel. Ya'll being ignorant, honestly.
The galaxy s3 gets good battery... definitely better than nexus. I would wait a bit for the next generation nexus device or galaxy s4

Had vz nexus since the release and no matter how much I customized it, the max screen on time I could get was 3 hrs. Got vz s3 few days ago and getting about 5 hrs on it . Running aokp on both phones.
