QXDM2SD.apk = Qualcomm assists its customers' development efforts by making available diagnostic software that helps drive the adoption of 3G technologies worldwide. Diagnostic software includes real-time data collection tools for analyzing handset and over-the-air 3G system performance, such as the Qualcomm eXtensible Diagnostic Monitor.

it's certainly a logger, another one, and there is libhtcqxdm2sd.so in /system/lib, seems related to it
I know I'm necro'ing a thread here but I found this one on a google search so I'm sure others will, too. I used to work at T-Mobile so I can give you a few insights.
1. This application was "whitelisted" for data usage. Meaning it could use a hundred gigabytes and you wouldn't be charged for it or see it on your bill.
2. It isn't related to that keylogger software BS that is on some phones. This basically takes a reading of signal strength, time without signal, rough location, baseband error messages, etc. Like turning you into a roving signal mapper so they can see where they need to improve signal, respond to tower failures, yell at Qualcomm for shipping bad chips, etc. Nosy and sounds a bit scary, but no one there cares enough to track you and log that you go to the strip club and a crack den every night.
3. Removing it won't do anything bad to your phone.

It doesn’t all of the sudden turn into a hand warmer and again force me to reset it.
And to me that’s the point. Sprint screwed the pooch when it upgraded the Evo to 2.2 and failed to allow uses to downgrade their OS back to the originally installed version. Probably a cost saving measure, but one that cost them at least this customer.
So to anyone on the fence about getting a MT4G, I think the beauty of this phone is that it just works. Works in ways you expect smart phones to work, but just about all current phones don’t seem to accomplish. Who doesn’t want a cell phone that does that!

Hi peeps,
Honeymoon over with my new phone, realising some of the apps I use to take for granted on Android HD2, can't be used on Sensation.
Most important for me Droidwall.
Anyone know which firewalls, work and can run on a non rooted handset?
Side query, what's best way of removing ads? Never realised there was ads in apps. As it was already fixed in the custom roms. I presume u need a rooted phone, not the end of the world. handset is a joy to use.

i all ready have a flashable add-on but it wont work till we get custom recovery and to replace the file your self you still need root becuase its in the system folder
Why do you use Droidwall if I may ask?
I have always seen it referred to as a placebo if anything.
Now people are seeing why I'm not buying the Sensation till it's cracked and rooted.
Android converts via the HD2 have all been using a rooted form of Android and never knew what life was like in the "locked down" world. I'm an Android convert via the HD2 myself, and knew complaints of this sort would be coming.
DroidWall is a great means to keep apps from eating data without knowing. Also a good means to keep Android from phoning home if that is of any concern to a user.

Mdeejays rom ate all my data allowance in standby on my HD2. Droidwall stopped this happening, blocking everything except the apps you want to use data.
Although changing to Boyppc rom, the data usage wasnt half as much. Hmm?

I agree. But it was upgrade time and having a 1080p camcorder enticed me to buy. Once you get over it being locked down, for now, it really is a joy to use. Every little niggle the HD2 had is gone. But yeah, rom wise, Boyppc rom makes HD2 a perfectly capable handset.

Nope, I won't be getting over it. I won't be buying the Sensation till it's unlocked.
My HD2 with the latest NexusHD2-Gingerbread has zero issues, none.
So no way I'm taking a step backward to lockdown, never.
I use several apps that require root. And I'm also not buying something I can't keep custom ROMs on.
Enjoy yours, but I'll pass if it's not unlocked.
These devices now cost way too much to compromise.
I just checked my t-mobile account and noticed I used 220mb of data since yesterday afternoon. How in the world is this possible if I was on wifi 90% of the time?
This sucks because I lose 4g speeds after 2GB of data.
are you sure that's only since yesterday & not from the start of your billing cycle?

I'll see if I can find the thread for you
Couldn't find the specific post/thread I was quoting, but I did find this, on Android Police:
Update: Don’t install this app until it gets an update – it will turn your GPS on every 10 seconds to update your location info, and won’t stop unless you Force Stop it from the Manage Applications screen. It was at 68% on my phone’s battery usage menu after 6 hours of doing little with my phone aside from checking e-mail sporadically. Yuck.

If it's using GPS to update your location every 10 seconds, that needs data. So I suspect, if you have this app installed, this could be your problem.
Get a data usage app that tells you what app is using how much data. If it shows that it is indeed this new T-Mobile app, there's your problem

Just downloaded it. I'm not concerned with data (tho still want to read that post), I'm more concerned with why a lot of apps that I don't even use seem to always be on.
I think it's because they're stock apps and the default is always on. Once we have root, we should be able to get rid of them, and once we can flash ROMs, we can install stock HTC software, or Android Revolution HD
Just another reason to have s-off and root
Ok, after downloading traffic counter, it looks like it IS my fault for the excessive data usage.
It's showing the speed test app as using 130mb of data (since last reboot, which was yesterday). I admit I went a little crazy on the speedtest app yesterday and today (I've never had 4g speeds before switching to tmobile), but why does it use SO much data? I did quite a few tests, but still.
I tried that traffic counter app. XDA is killing my data 27mb. I spend to much time at this place.
Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G using XDA Premium App
As I'm on an unlimited data plan, I don't really care about data usage. I can go up to something like 5gb and my network (giffgaff, easily the best network in the UK) doesn't really care! The only thing I can't do is tether, but I can create a wifi hotspot for when I need to get on the internet on a bigger screen
If you're in the UK, I strongly implore you to take a look at giffgaff. Link in my sig

if you have a fast connection it needs to send/receiver bigger files to get an accurate account of what your speed it. if it only used like a 512KB file then it'd show your speed as 1028238234978234978MBps.

Okay so they are planning on slowing you down once you reach a certain limit they set with their biggest package 4GB I would guess its around that point, how are they going to trottle everyone's speed down to a crawl? Is it going to be like they trottled everyone's speed up in the past VIA software updates? According to the post on ATT Website, they are putting it into effect on October 1st.
Secondaly, they are only capping the extreme few that are using CRAZY amounts of data, and taht number was WAY WAY above 4g data.
I spoke to a friend at ATT and he stated that currently the cap was at 10gigs. Now, that could change but who knows.
The data throttling is not being done VIA software and such but instead a change to your plan. All ATT phones are tracked via IMEI numbers and thus the way they know who has what number and what data/messaging packages. All they are doing is making a change to your plan that will only allow you to access the EDGE network.
I can see this possibly being bypassed but will have to wait till the change hits to see what can be done to bypass this.
What dept does your friend work in? Mine read about what's going on when and stuff but they didn't give him exact info like how or what the limit was. Edge don't even work when I try so that wouldnt be right because it takes 5 minutes to load a Facebook status.. anyway whatever happens I hope the limit is a bit higher then 10 sometimes I hit 16 and I don't do mobile hotspots, and i connect to WiFi at home. Let's hope for a work around if so!

No offense but its people like you is the reason why tethering has been such a huge issue. Tethering (if you are not paying for it) should only be used for necessity or minor things like checking your email, post a Facebook status message, or upload a photo, so that you are not abusing the feature and bogging down the network/tower you are connected to.

Top 5% users..... yeah right.
We all know how this is going to happened, you hit a certain cap, say about 10GB, then they throttle you to slower then EDGE speeds.
It's all their plan to ruin unlimited data for unlimited data users......
Hopefully though, the cap is high, or they ACTUALLY tell the truth for once and only throttle the top 5%, which I'm probably nowhere near (I use 3-4GB a month), so I really won't have to worry about it, but it sucks for people who use 10-15GB a month without tethering, you must not have wifi around where you normally are. :/

While it has been rumored and feared practically since the operating system's creation, one of the nightmare scenarios for some unlucky Android users has finally become very real. Japan's second largest mobile carrier, KDDI, has gone where no carrier has dared before and has begun disguising advertisements as system notifications on their Android devices.
It seems that an app bundled with KDDI devices is the cause of the controversial ad system. The "au one market" is a secondary market application that comes with most of the smartphones on the carrier's service. This newest evil addition came in the form of an update which prompted the user with two warnings.
Quote
1. au one Market app stays resident even when you are not using the app, 2. notification space will be used to inform good deals to customers.
There are similar ad experiences from certain applications and services already in the U.S. but this is the first time we've seen this behavior from an actual mobile carrier. It's scary to think of this becoming common place so be sure to voice your opposition on this sort of guerrilla advertising to your carrier representatives before it's too late. This is also just all the more reason to keep your rootz skills as up to date as possible. Removing that carrier bloatware is becoming seemingly more and more essential these days....

Apps are one thing. If an app uses ads, I simply don't use it or I buy the premium ad-free version. However, carriers including it on their phones in such a way that the user cannot remove it is a whole different thing. It's despicable. Their revenue from subscription fees isn't enough? They have to include advertising on the phones themselves to boost revenue? It's greedy and despicable, at least in the view of someone who hates ads and does everything possible to block them on both phones and computers.
