don't forget that MKV is just a container and can contain a variety of codecs some that the phone will play, some that it won't

In my LG O3D mkv files doesn't work System says "Can't open this video format" i dunno why maybe someone of you can solve this problem...

try a reset of the device

Hi,
O3D should play mkv out of the box, I suspect there is an issue with your file, if you have a pc, download a program called handbreak, and re-encode the file to mkv set the resolution to 480 x 800 as this is the native resolution of the phone, I did that with couple mkv that did not work at first and now they do.
hope this helps you

tested last night with a coulpe of MKV's and all worked fine. The 1080p 3D rip (i own the original) of Legend of the Gaurdians looks absolutely supurb

audio codec???
I have problem with mkv, i can view but audio say codec not compatible. how can i re encode and what codec i need to use?

it plays all the formats it claims to? wow.. you haven't had any issues with it at all?
It works really well, .mkv files play choppy, but any of the .mkv files I converted to mp4 play great. Divx rips play really well, they often look clearer on the small screen than on my monitor!
Been using it for weeks. Plays the most formats I've ever seen of any android player. Best part... Its free!!! Wish I could find a stand alone player for .swf format movies.
Now they want 10 bucks for it!!! Not worth it. But you can still use it. NAGWARE
ROCKPLAYER plays all avi files....
Its all I need )
doesnt work with hdmi out
If its not in the market I won't buy it.
never tried it yet, might in a bit though...

It now is and is out of beta
Sent from my PC36100 using Tapatalk
beta version gave me a bad humming buzzing sound when it got quiet in all my .avi files hopefully they fixed it..
that's weird.. i haven't heard any humming sound, although avi audio and video lags. i don't know why.
oh and i tried an mp4 720p video on it, such lag... i'm not sure how i feel about it. it's an otherwise good player.
Yeah, I downloaded the new release today, they changed it to ad/support or pay if you don't want to see ads.
Videos I had encoded into mp4 that played pretty well before, and flawlessly through the phone's video player, now are laggy, especially when you skip through the video.
mkv's still lag, avi/divx still plays well.
I hope they fix all this soon.
I've been using it since it was leaked awhile back, love it.

I don't have any except for when seeking through the files or playing after pause. For a few short seconds audio is choppy or there is none. Also so far I can't get subs to work. Oh and I forgot about HD, well you can fahget about it. 720p vids of bleach, in mpg format, that also seem to have low bitrates since its only 300 plus mbs didn't work. That was with the beta though for the latter.
It only supports .srt UTF-8 subtitles currently.
The application definitely needs some polish. It can't play most HD files yet, and needs more support for other subtitle formats and audio types, but it's the most capable player on Android. One of the only ones that'll play divx files flawlessly.
I love it used the beta for ever but yes it is out of beta and on the market get it while you can
One thing I like about rockplayer that I haven't seen posted anywhere is that it plays flv's. I have ton of those(I had a love affair with youtubedownloader for a while!)
How do I associate it with video files to make it the default video player?
Should I be able to open a file on my LAN via the wireless network in ESTRong explorer and play it?

[Q] Help needed with jerky video playback on X10i

Hey
I need help from anybody because I did not manage to solve this problem. My xperia X10i manages to play movies, however they are jerky from time to time and i dont know what the problem is.
I had a HTC HERO before and it was able to play the same videos with no problem, now with the xperia, even with different roms the videos play a bit jerky, no matter the format, mp4, m4v etc. I tried with the default player and other players and is the same problem.
The problem is not the micro sd card as i have a class VI 16 gb from samsung.
Could anyone tell me how can I solve this?
even my 2 generation ipod touch was able to play this movies really smooth with no problems at all.
thanks
have u tried defrag on ur sdcard? and wats rom u using? player? rooted?
Hey
Well I have used several roms, with jit enabled, with latest firmware and the latest 2.2 Rom. Right now I have the latest firmware for 2.1 and the problem is not solved. I did not defrag the card though mainly because is basically new, I thought the card was the problem that is why I bought a new one. But the problem was not solved.

what are the video files? movies? video recorded from camcorder?
what are the details on the video files? (fps?, bit-rate?, etc)
if they are movies you've converted, try lowering the resolution (800x480) and lowering the fps to 22-24fps and a bit rate of around 1500-2000.
if it's your recorded videos from the onboard video camera, what class is your sd card? if you're using the modded V* camera app on a 2.1 rom, go to V10 and make sure you don't have the camera profiles in your build.prop.
Try moboplayer or qqplayer the default ones or vplayer i had the same issue.
Hey thanks, I tried the players with same result, the files are 480 pixels wide, bitrate is 600 kbps which is kind of low. And as I said I managed to play with the old ipod touch, and they play very well there so they should play well on the xperia. I am using handbrake for the conversions using the ipod touch preset, on mp4 format as well as m4v, but on the other people using the x10, your videos play with no problem at all? Not even a small freeze for a second? Thanks for your help on this

+1 to rockplayer, plays 720p mp4s without a hitch too. I am on Wolf's .053 2.2 CMOD ROM. Used to work on SE's official 2.1 too from what I recall. And yeah it was off my old 8GB class 2 card.
EDIT: Use hardware decoding mode in rockplayer to get better playback.

[Q] I thought Tegra 2 could play back at least 720p?

I thought that the Tegra 2 could play back 1080p. I ripped Sucker Punch from my Blu-Ray copy so that I could play it on my XOOM. Instead of 1080p I converted it to 720p just to be safe. When I tried to watch the file it wasn't showing up in Gallery.
I used Moboplayer (recommend by lordao) and when it played it, it would skip and be extremely laggy (as in less than 5 fps and the video on my desktop runs at 30fps). So I tried VPlayer and that worked but it would be a little choppy (it sorta worked).
The movie's format is 1280x534, MP4 Video, and 2.18GB.
Any ideas? or is it just the Tegra 2 and how Nvidia lied?

It sounds like you didn't convert it to a proper file format, if it doesn't show up in the gallery you didn't use the correct format.
Moboplayer can play it because it uses software decoding for unsupported media, but as a downside can't play HD files very well since it can't use the hardware acceleration that the tegra 2 offers

no. I used mp4.
Normally use AVI and it works flawlessly in Moboplayer.

Just to clarify, you're saying Mobo can't play it in 720p because it doesn't take advantage of the Tegra 2?

If the File Type isnt supported by Honeycomb (like .mkv) Mobo will use Software decoding and run extremly slow, if the file is supported Mobo will use Hardware acceleration.
Maybe your file is containing a weird video or audio codec because AVC mp4 f.e. is played even with the Standard player in 720p flawlessly ,i recently watched 3 mp4 720p Movies.

I emailed the devs of Rockplayer about this very issue, here is the complete reply from them "Even with Xoom's dual-core processor, the device still doesn't have enough capability to decode 1080p videos in software mode."
If you have a computer with an Nvidia graphics card, look into Badaboom for fast conversions.
Either way, use h264 with baseline encoding for best playback.

That was in another video encoding thread on Xoom>General for ati cards. I have never used it though.
720p should play just fine on the xoom.
h.264 high profile vid @ 720p (ripped from blu ray) using Apple TV2 handbrake preset is what I use. The videos wouldn't play good on 3.0. On 3.1 it seems hardware acceleration was enabled for 720p high profile and they play great. They play so good on the xoom that now the last reason to keep my ipad2 is gone, so I've sold the ipad2 lol

720p mkv playback on g2x

Hey guys
I could swear I had this solved, but most recently its come to my attention
that whatever I may have thought, I actually don't have a reliable way of playing back 720p mkvs on my phone without streaming/transcoding/converting.
Plex has come a long way and works excellently, but I really want to do native playback. Has anyone done a thorough survey of players? If not I will try to do one and write back with my results.
EDIT: I should say that, I actually want to play 720p mkv's off a network share. But let's say the first goal is native 720p mkv playback, and the second goal is to do it over a share.

I don't know what the res of the video was but I know is was a HQ mkv and MX played it perfectly. I've also thrown .VOB's at it. I think I will go home and toss a .ts at it just to see what it will do.
What is the best solution to play MKV's that are larger than 4gb on the G2x? Most of mine are and the 4gb fat32 file size limit on the SD card get's in the way. Can android read an NTFS formatted card? Or can someone recommend a free Windows utility to downsize an MKV to less than 4gb? Thanks.

[Q] .mp4 video playback problem

I watch alot movies on my phone and when a movie is .avi format no matter how big (1,2gb) is playing with no problem, BUT when its .mp4 on the stock and some other players says, sorry this video can not be played, and on some players like mobo or mx (the ones with codecs) plays but with lag (the picture is like a slow motion)?
Its funny cos the videos that are recorded with the phone are .mp4 and are played very well...

Most likely your mp4 file has H264 video with a profile above what this device supports in hardware... For that reason i would like a dump of the technical details of the file. On windows if you use MPC-HC there is a properties windows with a mediainfo tab.
AVI or MP4 are only the container format that encompasses varius audio, video, subtitles tracks. The video codec inside the track is what matters. Most AVI files contain one track of video and one track of audio, but the codecs usually are XVID and MP3. In the case of MP4 files the codecs are H264 and AAC. But H264 has a enormous range of profiles and levels that increase the CPU power needed for a given bitrate.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/H.264/MPEG-4_AVC#Profiles
IIRC, this device only supports H264 baseline profile in its hardware decoder, so if your file has a higher profile using MXplayer it will decode in software.
