Hello everybody.
So I finally ordered a HTC Trophy, so I'll be leaving the 'droid forums to join these more agreable, more magical lands. I wanted to ask, what are the first things I should do/download/check ?
Thanks in advance,
Kim.
Sent via my magical HTC Wildfire S.
First things on my list:
Setup the security PIN and whatnot
Download the Zune desktop software, connect up, make sure everything is up to date and setup wireless sync
Setup all your accounts (Exchange, Windows Live, Facebook for now, soon there'll be LinkedIn and Twitter too)
The advantage of the Zune desktop software is that it means you can browse the marketplace on your computer, which is always easier than on a phone. You can easily find the Windows Phone versions/equivalents of the software you used on Android, and you can install it via Zune- if your phone is connected by a cable, it'll install automatically and if not it'll install the next time your phone checks for app updates.
The only thing that annoys me at the moment is a lack of a quick WiFi switch, so I've pinned settings to start as a bit of a workaround. Also, when you're on WiFi and know you will be for a while, switch off the 3G data connection as Windows Phone has a habit of reverting to it if you put the phone onto standby.
Is having the zune desktop software an obligation, I don't have regular access to a computer ?

Well yes. In order to use your phone with computer, you will need Zune.
By using Zune, you can transfer music, pictures or videos to/and from your phone,
and also you can browse for apps.
USB mode for data transfer officially doesn't exist. You can not transfer Word, Powerpoint, Excell or any other "Office document" using Zune. For that, you will need to send them to your email, and then download them using your phone.
P.S. You need to have Zune if you want to update software on the device.
Ah, updating. Okay, but otherwise I can browse the market via the phone, like any other ?

Once you upgrade to Mango, try some apps using live tiles (The WP equivalent to Android widgets). Two of my favorites are WeatherLive and Smart Tile.

Yes. Zune desktop is for syncing pictures/videos/music from your computer to your phone. But its also used for official updating of the phone.
Other than that you have no 'need' for it.

Does anyone know if there is any software out there
that would allow me to remote into my android phone via my pc? All I'm really looking for is to be able to remotely view the screen of my phone remotely.
There is a great software package out there made by
http://www.soti.net/
but they do not have software available for Android.
This would be for use with the new evo
Any ideas?
Thansk
Picme in market.
You can also setup dyndns if you know how and what it can do. They also have an app
I'm currently working on data access and full phone control. It's kinda hard to get everything working together.

Have you heard of this product?
http://airwatchstore.com/
I wonder if it really works with android. I don't have an Android yet, as I'm looking at getting the Evo later this week.
Will someone try the demo, and let me know what they think?
Thanks
*RoidRage I'm excited to see your product developed. I think your developing in a good niche as there doesn't seem to be very much software out there for this application of remoting into your phone. I'll definitiley have to give it a try.
I briefly looked at it. Appears to only be for Windows mobile and iPhone.

that's what I noticed too, however when you go to purchase it asks you what OS you have, and there is an Android option, but perhaps they are just collecting date, although in their wiki file it also mentions they support android.

Hello, I am looking for an android app that when i connect to my home wifi it looks for a folder on my computer and syncs whatever is in it onto a folder in my SD card. Any good recommendations?
Its not 100% exactly what you described, but have you tried Dropbox? Syncs a folder on your computer with the service, and you can sync that with the dropbox app on your phone.

You're basically describing Dropbox. As long as you have a data connection you can access anything in the folder and view/download straight to your phone. I keep all my root stuff in Dropbox so I don't need to keep it on sd card. That way anything I need, I downoad, use, and delete. Plus, it allows me to search and download roms while at work and then when I get home they automatically update to my home computer for flashing.
Click the referral link in my sig and we both get an extra 500mb of space (I have an edu email address). You have to install the desktop application to get your referral credit though.
EDIT - REFERRAL LINK
Hey thank you for the replys so far. I do have drop box and I do love it! But I am looking for that one extra step at the end. What I don't like about drop box is I have to then manually download the files from it to my phone. Basically want once I connect to my home wifi it reaches out to my pc and syncs with a folder on it to a folder on my sd automatically. I don't mind if I have to setup a share or file server on my pc.

Post if you find a good app, I'm sure it's doable. Would probably operate much like RemoteDroid does for the mouse. Love that app!
DUDE - found this earlier today but haven't clicked cuz dude has ONE POST and I'm not convinced it isn't a virus. Looked it up on www.SiteAdvisor.com and there is no record. I'm at work so not feeling brave, but if you are, then go nuts.

I have kinda found what i was looking for in Android Manager Wifi. here is a link:
http://www.appbrain.com/app/android-manager-wifi/com.mobileaction.AmAgent
It has many options, one being able to select a folder on ur computer and one on your SD card for them to sync up automatically. Testing out to see how REALLY automated the whole process is. But none the less this is a great app for many things it seems. People should definitely check it out!
Didn't Double Twist just implement that? Need the "pay" version ($.99), but it has something called Air Synch. Look into this and let me know if it is what you want.

Checked out Double Twist Air Sync and its not bad. But seems to only do music, videos, pics and playlist syncing. I need it to be able to do any kind of file/folder. But for multimedia people out there its something to check out.
Syncables is a broader sync solution than Double Twist

I've read similar critiques of Double Twist. I prefer Syncables through and through - and it think that's more of what you're looking for. Syncables will sync any type of folder, media file, spreadsheet, email, and even browser bookmark. It also syncs between Macs and PCs and smartphones like Droid and BlackBerries.
It has a wider suite of sync/backup/share products than the more niche Double Twist product...oh, and it has wireless sync capability using WiFi, as well.
I am actually writing an app that does exactly what you want. It's not done but the functionality is there to sync a folder (with no PC client needed). If you want to help me test it you can PM me with an email address to send you the APK.
Yea i will check it out. Sent you a PM
Just a random idea but is there an app that works with dropbox and automatically downloads changes to it to your SD card? Seems like that would also be sweet for alot of people.

So what does HTC Sense Sync actually sync and where does it sync it to? I am on the 200mb plan so I am trying to watch my usage.
I created an account on the HTC Sense website but the only thing on there is the ability to find my phone.
Thanks

I'm kind of wondering that too, it sure seems to want to sync an awful lot.
I think one thing might be text messages. I got a new Inspire because I thought mine had a problem and texts received with the previous phone showed up in the messaging app after syncing.

its a different type of UI it specializes in keeping you in sync with everything in your social world, it does sync a lot but you make it sync only when you want to

what does Sync HTC Hub do?
and
what does Sync HTC Sense do?

the first link you posted is for HTC Sync software for PC, the second one is of concern to Windows Mobile phones.
What I wanted to know is, when I go to settings/accounts&sync//HTC Sense, I get:
Sync HTC Sense
and
Sync HTC Hub
my question is what data exactly do these 2 options sync?

I've read them:
1. "HTC Sync is powerful software that lets you maximize the use of your Android-powered HTC phone." - not an answer to my question!
2. "HTC Hub is where you can check out weather forecasts, stock updates, and news. It's also the place to go to find out what free HTC apps you can download from Windows Marketplace. " - not an answer to my question! (news are a separate sync item in accounts&sync, as well as stocks and weather, so it leaves Windows Marketplace, yeah, that must be it ).
Also, he attacked me first for being lazy and then provided an answer he looked up for 5 seconds and obviously did not bother to read it first
htc sync is just ur contacts, mp3s, pictures u sync with the matching software on ur pc. the hub is just a useless place u can find a couple themes 9 backgrounds and a handful of widgets, its not updated ever lol. and getting it to sync with the htc software is a pain and has been for many people. best to avoid both imo

AFAIK, the options in settings/accounts&sync//HTC Sense also sync SMSs, list of installed apps, enable you to use the dashboard from htcsense.com (so, remote wipe ur phone, make it ring even if different sim is inserted or locate it on the map if you lost it and password protect it remotely, with a message you want to display on the phone). These options do not have anything to do with syncing with the PC (I do not have any HTC software installed on my PC).
HTC Hub on the other side, AFAIK, has the themes, ringtones and HTC widgets and such, so Darunion is correct in that part.
Darunion mentioned contacts. I think it only syncs the "phone" contacts. Not sim or google. And you are better off if you just have all your contacts as google contacts anyways.
The Sense syncing has also something to do with your location too. Updates your location for phone finder I believe.
But with or without the turmoil in this thread we have to agree that most of this is worthless. Especially when it only works half of the time.

Just use your same microsoft ID again (windows live) and go to windowsphone.com. log in and go right where it shows your phone, there is in this tab a site for purchase history. from there you can click on every app to reinstall again. it will send then the app via wifi to your phone from this pc you are logged in. the was also this app reinstall but it doesn work anymore because microsoft changed the way how apps and the app site works....
when WP first came out, any apps I downloaded from the marketplace on my computer automatically installed as well...
it stopped doing that a while back, but was a cool feature.
thanks for update
used the reinstaller and other things but didn't realize I could do that from the wp website nice
