I have tried to connect the touchpad to the wireless unit and know that the numbers are correct because the wpa personal code was accepted by my netbook and blackberry 9700. I do not know if it is a setting with the modem or what?

Not sure this question belongs here, but...
TP only supports, b and g, not n. I was unable to to connect to 5Ghz band no matter what. Only 2.4Ghz.
Try connecting with no security first: no WPA/2 etc. Then implement security.
What works with my Moto SB wireless is either WPA-PSK or WPA2-PSK with TKIP.
I was unaware of the 5ghz. I knew it was just b and g. We will try those settings! Thanks!
my touchpad works on my routers 5ghz n band and 2.4ghz band just fine. using wpa2 tkip + aes. so the hardware is capable.
Thanks autoprime. I will give that a spin. Brighthouse changed the password to access the modem setup but they can probably figure that out.

Have you gone to the settings menu and wireless, turned on wifi, and then selected a network? Are you using your own wifi? Is there wifi available where you are? Is there 3G available where you are?

Wifi - it tells me it is connected, but cannot browse unless I disconnect wifi when it happily connects using 3G. I can check the router and it has the Samsung's MAC address on its list of connected devices. Anyone else having trouble with wifi?

Someone else was having problems with 5ghz vs. 2.4ghz in their router. Are you broadcasting wireless-N at 5ghz? Have you tried rebooting the router, and a battery pull on your phone?
I don't think I am broadcasting at 5GHz - what should I be broadcasting at? Yuck, I turned off wireless-N so it is only broadcasting b/g and now it works...
Weird - now I turned wireless N on too so the router is broadcasting a/n-b/g and everything is happy. I actually specifically turned *on* 5Ghz/2.4Ghz too so it has both (Airport Extreme router) that it will talk and the router tells me that the Captivate is talking 802.11b/g/n and now the phone is happy. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction - it was driving me nuts because I could see the wifi at Starbucks!

I have set up a 802.11n network in my Netgear WNDR4000 (European setting, channel 44).
Problem is that the network is not visible in my Transformer TF101G (Wi-Fi version v5.2.64, kernel v2.6.36.3-00004-g15c5e57).
I tried both open/unprotected and WPA2-PSK security but with same result. Even tried to add it manually, but not visible.
Network works fine in my Win7 laptop (but not in Galaxy S phone either)
Any suggestions / ideas on how to debug / fix ?

P.S. 802.11 b/g works fine.
Do you use the 5Ghz on wireless n? That is because the Transfomer does not support the 5Ghz. Try 2.4Ghz, that will work.

OK, my wife and I each have Sprint Samsung Galaxy S3's. We both have Wifi Tether TrevE mod installed and working and we also have a linksys router running DD-WRT.
I have wanted for a long time to create a stable home network with the router using our phones for internet. Reason being, We both have laptops that need access to our WiFi networked printer. And I also wanted to create a networked storage.
I started out trying to use the Router as a repeater bridge. The problem here is that in that mode there is no DHCP server in the router, so when you turn off WiFi Tether in the phone, there is no IP assignment taking place since it is handled by the phone. This is ok for the printer because we can set a static IP, but not ok for the laptops because they need to have auto ip assignment for all the other networks they might encounter. Plus I'd like to be able to have a friend come over and use the printer if need be without having to change his IP address. So this setup is unstable.
Then I tried the Router in Repeater mode. In this mode IP addresses are being assigned and everyone can see everyone else on the network. The problem here though, is that the Router and all connecting devices have to be in a separate subnet than the WiFi Tethering phone, i.e, Tethered Phone on 192.168.1.x and Router on 192.168.2.x (as far as I can tell anyway, I've tried putting them on the same subnet but fail to get internet access.) It's a problem because I have Samba Filesharing installed on the phones and the tethered phone is in a different subnet and not visible on the network. I want all devices visible.
So that's kind of where I am now, Wifi Tether on both phones (each setup with same settings so either phone can be used as our internet gateway) but they are on a separate subnet from the rest of the network while tethering.
How do I get all of my devices to be visible on the network?
Do I need a different setup in DD-WRT?
Currently it is setup in Gateway mode with DHCP server and wireless is in repeater mode with a VLAN setup with a different SSID from the WiFi tethered phone.
Do I need to usb tether the phone to the router? I have a usb port on the router but I've not found good instructions for getting the phones internet through to the router that way and I'm not sure that I would want it that way since I wouldn't be able to walk around with my phone.
Is there a way to make devices in different subnets visible to each other? Some kind of bridging or static routing or something?
Is it possible to have the phone connect to the router in a normal manner and for the router to then share the phones internet connection with the rest of the network? Then at least the router could run DHCP and be stable even without the phones.
Again, just to clarify, I want a home network with devices connecting to my WiFi router running DD-WRT and internet being provided by one of our phones, but with the network remaining intact when the internet provided phone is removed. Thanks for your help.
Bonus questions:
Is it possible to harness the power of both of our phones internet connections into one network by any means possible?
Are there any other wifi/tethering apps or another version of WiFi Tether that offer more features or the functionality of DD-WRT?

Thanks. Not much new there other than Barnacle. Didn't know about it, tried it, doesn't work on my phone. I would like to see a version of WiFi Tether with some more options though, why couldn't we have one with the same options as DD-WRT?
I did some more reading and I think what I need to do is link the subnet created by the router to the primary router (the phone serving Wifi Tether) through static routing. Unfortunately the static route needs to be done through the primary router and WiFi Tether doesn't include features like that.
I'll do some more experimenting and see what happens.

DD-WRT Client Bridge worked for me
I was able to do what you're trying to do by configuring my DD-WRT router as a Client Bridge.
I can't post the link, but there are directions I followed exactly on the DD-WRT wiki in the section:

I'm connecting my router to the tether via wifi, and connecting my wired devices to the router. I haven't had it working long, but so far it has been great.

Just to update this thread. The client bridge is a great way to connect a wired network to the bridge but loses out on creating a stable wi-fi network when the phone tether is turned off.
Anyway, the final setup I managed was having the DD-WRT router set as a wireless repeater with a computer connected to it running a DHCP server. The computer takes care of the IP addreses so that we have a stable wired/wi-fi intranet when the phone is not sharing it's internet connection.

I kind of like the USB tether thing. The E3000 Router USB power charges and maintains my SCH-i605 (Verizon Samsung GN2) running CM12.1. I use this as a backup connection or in the event of main cable modem service disruption at the house. It is also great for traveling (hotels) or camping (car 12v adapter for router, or power inverter)
I just bought a used Asus RT-N66U router. Out of the box it supports USB tethering with android phones and dual WANs for failover/load balancing. ROOter also works, tested the x86 build on an old PC. I'm looking to cut out my ISP completely and just use 4G from the phone for internet. The issue I have run into is that I can't appear to do DDNS or port forwarding. My wireless carrier (verizon) appears to be employing a double NAT. If I perform a speedtest on the ookla app, I get 2 IP addresses in the results, an "internal" and an "external". Both are in the public range but I can't DDNS in with either of the IPs, nor can I get any kind of service working.
Anyone have a solution for this? I'm not 100% sure but I wonder if using the SIM card in a dedicated USB 4G modem (not tethering via the phone) would get me a direct IP? I suppose I could also sign up for a VPN service and run OpenVPN on the router but that'd cut down on speeds I think. I've also heard about punching holes for ports but I'm not 100% sure how that works, I assume I still need some 3rd party public IP for relaying or something.
OK, I've searched Google for weeks and searched the Xoom Q&A, but don't find anything that addresses my problem.
I have a network with one router connected directly to the cable modem. It is called Jaytrenthome. Connected to that via cable is another router in AP mode called JText.
My Xoom connects successfully to both, but only shows blue bars when connected to the JText AP. When connected to Jaytrenthome, it shows Wifi connection, but grey icon indicating no internet connection.
As the routers are on different sides of the house, I need to use both depending on the side of the house I am on.

3. Turning on the 5 Ghz band of WIFI on Jaytrenthome.
4. Assigning a fixed IP in the Xoom WIFI settings
5. Praying....

Are you using the same SSID and password for both the routers?
My Xoom did not like it when I had a router and AP broadcasting using the same SSID (and same password) in my house, although my issue wasn't exactly the same as what you're experiencing. For me, the Xoom had a really hard time staying connected to either of the units if the signal strengths were very similar. The signals seem to fluctuate quite a bit in my house, with the strongest signal bouncing back and forth between the two routers, so I ended up with a lot of disconnects and sometimes a long time to authenticate. I ended up moving one of the routers to a better place in the house and eliminating the second one. I'm now getting more reliable connections, particularly if I use the 5 GHz signal. Ultimately I still think there is something interfering with my 2.4GHz signal though, but I haven't had a lot of time to troubleshoot further....

i am using a router which broadcast both 2.4ghz and 5ghz band using single SSID. how do i force my phone to only allow to connect to the 5Ghz wifi network. i cannot turn off the 2.4ghz band as there are other devices in my house that only support 2.4ghz or do i want to split the bands into 2 SSID.

i was able to split my router to 2 different SSID for both bands
In the past there used to be an option in advanced wifi settings that made the 5GHz "preferred" but Google took it out for some reason.
The disabling of the 2.4 GHz or having 2 separate SSIDs might be the only way right now (not sure for a rooted phone tho)

Yes not sure why did Google remove that option. Any hidden secret code i.e. *#00*# etc that allowed us to make changes to network setting.
Some routers have band steering which will force devices to 5ghz if supported while keeping 2.4ghz for devices that can't.

Mine only 1 ssid for both band. Seem like there is no solution and i had to split the bands into 2 ssid.

I only have 1 ssid. Like I said, I turned off Auto Connect for 2.4ghz so it always stays on 5ghz.

thanks, but for me both the bands are broadcast into one SSID. which means i can only find one wifi connection and the wireless router will change the band connection based on the signal strength when i am moving around the house. it will change the connection to 2.4ghz when i am in some place where the 5ghz connection is weak. why i wanted to stay with 5ghz when the connection is weak because it give a much higher download/upload speed compare to the 2.4ghz connection which somehow got much weaker internet speed to the extent of unusable.

Buy a new router where you can separate them and then disable or turn off the 5ghz connection
Looks like this is quite an issue for N2Us. I have a 4 year old iphone and it stays connected to 5GHz in the same place and N2U reverts to 2.4. I have band steering and have been really well on all other devices. Issue lies only with N2U.

Mine can separate them but since it is only affecting my phone, I hope the change can be on the phone instead. By separating them, I will need to configure all those devices that can only connect to 2.4ghz. e.g. ring peephole

Errr...you actually DON'T have one SSID but 2. The band is appended on the name and they are actually 2 different WiFi networks with different names so you could turn off auto-connect on the 2.4GHz one
I use the Wireless Mac Filter on my router to block 2.4Ghz Band for my phone mac address, so the phone can only connect to 5Ghz
If you are using a Samsung phone in the advanced settings for wifi, turn off use randomised MAC address and use the phones actual MAC. This fix has been tested on Netgear routers and works, phone will join the faster 5ghz and still be able to switch to 2.4 if you are at a distance from the router

This is what i did .
(It might give you an very easy option /idea .)
My current setup is a Nokia fibre router that has 2.4 ghz and 5 ghz bands
I bought a reasonable priced wifi mesh 'TP DECO M4 "then
connected it to my fibre router ( ethernet cable )
The TP wifi mesh comes with an Android app fo configure it (settings )
All i did was swicth off the 2.4 ghz band in app, for my TP decom 4 model .
So if i wand to use only 5ghz i connect to my TP DecoM4 ( which is connected to my Nokia fibre router)
My othe devices( that only use 2.4 ghz bands ) i connect dirrectly to my Nokia fibre router, that has 2.4ghz band active ...and also the 5ghz ,
So fo me its a matter of to switch 2.4 ghz on and off in the Android TPlink app .
