[Q] How to Install Ubuntu on Asus Eee Pad Transformer - General Questions and Answers

Hi
I just unrooted my Asus Eee pad Transformer, but I have a problem with Ubuntu installation, I download the followings:
Ubuntu.img
&
linux-flash-kit.tar.gz
The second folder in tar.gz is necessary to choose how to install, I prefer to use file for a dual boot and for this there is "flash-linux-android.sh" file but I think that I must use to run under ubuntu desktop and not Windows, anyway I don't understand how because in Ubuntu I don't know where and if there is APX mode.
The problem is that I don't Understand how to start and where I have to put files and if I can use Ubuntu Desktop or Windows.
I saw a lot of video on Youtube and all use Windows desktop but now I ask your help.
Could you tell me step by step how and where to put all files for a right setup?
PS: I want to tell you that I have a problemi to find and download the following file necessary ( form Lilsteffy) to start installation: rootfs.ext2
If you could suggest a link where I can download, I will appreciate your one.
Thanks a lot.

Do you mean Samsung Omnia
Regardless - I checked out the game and believe it is a Java based game - I downloaded it and it was a Java file in a ZIP file or RAR File as it showed on my computer. All you would need to do is extract the JAVA - .jar file from the zip folder and transfer that to your device - With my device I would transfer either through bluetooth, WIFI or activesinc and I would place it in a folder with the rest of my java apps then run it- Not sure about your device - basically whatever works for you. Then you would just find it using your file explorer and tap it to play it or open your Java app and select the game- as long as your device supports Java games.
From what I have seen it is an older game so even if you can get it to run - it might not run properly on your device or even look right with your screen resolution. Hope this helps
Here is a tutorial on cab files. (what most installations are)
If it is a java based game then the process is similar, copy and run.

Windows XP on the transformer!

I manage to run windows xp on our transformer using BOCHS app
Its work kinda slow but faster than i thought
Tutorial
1)Search on the web the SDL folder for BOCHS and the WIN XP img file (or download the SDL folder below)
2)Put the SDL folder in the tf101 main folder
3)Copy the img file to the SDL folder and and rename it to C.img
4)Run BOCHS and you done
5)Now u can create a folder named "HDD" in the root of your SDcard and transfer files there,
when u boot ur windows , all of ur files will be in D drive
Downloads
Here u can download BOCHS app and the SDL folder:

How do we create .vhd image of windows xp?
How likely is it to get actual windows programs (especially office) to work? Interesting finding for sure!

I'm willing to test this out on a Xoom. I'll update later on.
Sent from my HTC Desire Z using Tapatalk 2 Beta-3
I'm getting my img, i'll update soon.
Edit1: I just managed to boot win7 .img. I editted bosch.txt and got this gem to work, also now I can use usb host to plug a mouse.
Edit2: April fool's
Edit3: Btw, no joke, managed to make a ".img" from a ".vhd" WinXP sp2 lite version, and made it run, you just need to edit bochs.txt to give more free ram. I always have 420~ free ram becouse im under ARHD, but with aosp you can manage to get more.
Lite version of windows is the best choice, no crap services (like printer) or unused programs (aka tools) runs pretty fast, keyboard works under .txt (PRETTY FAST! IF USING OC KERNEL)
Just download an iso, open virtual machine, install winxp and then backup the img as .vhd or .img
I'm trying to get the pad work, dunno if it's app limitation.
Can't post link, but if pm I can give winxp sp2 .vhd (no lite) so you can convert it to img under windows 7
-I'll try qemu, perhaps faster.
ALSO, win7 is impossible on tf101.
Wait for win8 that can run under ARM devices, with a boot manager we could simply boot under ubuntu, android or win8. Just be patient.
PS: For windows xp you must edit ips table to a value ~ 10000000
also, here you have cmds for the internal debugger
http://bochs.sourceforge.net/doc/docbook/user/internal-debugger.html
How fast is it? How long does it take to open any small program ?

Awww...bad joke man...I been messing with this all day could have PM'd me..anyways, what about Vista..is it possible?
I wonder if you can access internet or local file from inside android filesystem?
I am asking because i have small utility id like to run on WinXp so wonder how can i get it in there?
Tnx
Pretty cool, i wouldnt mind messing around with this and seeing what i can do.
Can you post the modified .txt file and xp img file please?
Or can you make a tutorial with all the steps?
I'm trying to run xp on the transformer since february.
Thanks
Mod Edit: No asking for img files of Microsoft OS' systems is allowed as this is warez
I've tried like 10 different .IMGs and i get the error "NO BOOT"
@ all,
Stop asking for images of WinXP. This is a copyrighted OS and as such, if you don't have it, you cannot have it (unless you buy if, of course) or share it.
There have been multiple people requesting this in this thread. Next one to ask will get a vacation.

[Q] some questions about update official blob

Hello, I'm very new to this forum so plz forgive me if I post this in the wrong place.
I recently bought a asus tf300 and flash the cmw recovery img. Since I'm unlock the bootloader, I no longer get update from ASUS website. My question is how am I manually update the blob file that I download from ASUS support website.
I have look alot threads about this issue, and I find out there are mainly three methods that can update the blob.
1. Using Asus Manual upload:
According to Asus website, they said just put the zip file in the micro sd card and the system will pop up an notification that will help u upload.
2. Using CMW to upload:
upload the blob with CMW recovery. There are some thread that tells me it will brick the device. But some people said it is ok to use CMW to upload the blob, therefore I'm a little bit confused about this method.
3. Wolf's way:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1622628
The following is my questions:
1. what is the difference between these three method?
2. if the CMW is okay can someone tells me the right way to upload the blob. Such as using the original build.prop something like that?
3. is it ok to use the wolf's way to update the blob?
Sorry for so many questions and my poor English.
I'd use the ADB / Terminal emulator method (Wolf's way mostly)
Place on transformer, then flash the 'blob' file through the staging partition.
You'll need to reinstall CWM and reroot everytime you do this, unless you manually extract the SOS partition out of the blob file ASUS gives you with blobtools then repack it.

[Q] Rooting Nook Simple Touch - stuck, please help!

Hi
I'm a bit of a noob to be honest so please be patient! I'm trying to root my NST. I've followed the instructions here over at nookdevs.com/Nook_Simple_Touch/Rooting/Manual
I've followed the instructions all the way through right to the final # but when I turn my nook on it just boots to the normal screen. I can't work out what's wrong.
Here's someways I might be going wrong but can't be sure.
1. I've managed to write the image to the microSD. I put it in the Nook and turn it on - and I get the splash screen 'rooted forever'. I then connect the nook to my mac by usb and copy over the uRamdisk file to the 'root' partition using Finder. Am I ok to use Finder to simply copy and paste the uRamdisk file over? Or do I need to do it through the Terminal? If so how do I do that? (remember I'm a noob! Thanks!)
2. The instructions don't specify which uRamdisk file I should be copying over - the usb one or the wireless one. I've tried both and when I use the usb one I find I can't connect to the nook using adb over the wifi.
I've wasted hours on this now so I really hope someone can give some advice. To be clear I'm doing this on a mac and don't have easy access to a Windows machine (sadly!)
Thanks in advance

Broken Links to Ubuntu Touch for P3113

I posted this in the Ubuntu Touch forum, but I am impatient and need to get a faster response. I have followed http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2166921 to try to install Touch on the p3113, but the device and ubuntu specific links are down. I have the device specific that I got from a mediafire link that someone posted on there, but people say that it might not work. I tried to search in http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/ and the old version, but I was out of luck as I could not find the "quantal-preinstalled-phablet-armhf.zip" which is the ubuntu generic file. If I DID find a quantal folder in those archives, it would always be for the desktop. In the link to the ubuntu download page for that file, "cdimage.ubuntu.com/ubuntu-touch-preview/quantal/mwc-demo/quantal-preinstalled-phablet-armhf.zip" You can see the "ubuntu-touch-preview" part of the link, which does not exist. I'm thinking that the people hosting the server have deleted the preview, for us to be left with only a "ubuntu-touch" folder which does not contain anything to do with quantal. May someone please reupload that file if you have it?
