So I was adventurous today, and decided to buy the original iPad case made by Apple to see if it works with the Touchpad. I know a lot of people have been wondering the same thing, and here's your answer: It does. The camera, bezel & home button are not blocked, and neither are all the other buttons.
*iPad 1 case, NOT iPad 2*
The case retails for $40 at Best Buy if you want to pick it up. Here's some pictures of it in action:

Top view: (The headphone jack lines up perfectly, the power button is a little off but it still works fine)
Side view with the volume rocker:
Bottom Micro-USB slot:
Speakers: (They are covered up by the flap that holds the TP in, but simply sliding it out allows you to hear the full audio quality, even though it isn't that bad with it on)
It works great guys, and I would definitely recommend getting it.

It looks 'loose'? You can see the rounded outter edges of the TP in the rubber border? is that how the ipad fits too!?
I bought the Griffen rubber back and it fit the same way, very loose, and if you grabbed one of the sides the rubber would almost slide off. Not a good fit (if you ask me). I'm curious if this is just specific to the cases that have the tigher fit rubber back cover, or for all cases. I'm going to pickup the Targus Truss case for the ipad and see for myself.

I see what you are saying. It's actually not loose. Compared to the iPad, its corners have a larger curve, so it gives it that look but it fits just fine.

That is correct.
Not to be a party pooper but whats the point?
If you have an old ipad case around then fair enough but otherwise doesn't the official HP case do the same thing but fit perfectly?

I tried using the Touchpad with the same (Apple stock) iPad case a few days ago. It does actually fit pretty securely - the gaps in the corners are a bit concerning as far as possibly letting debris into the case and scratching up the sides or back, but it did not feel like the Touchpad would fall out. For me at least, the "propped-up" mode was not very stable, at least compared to how it feels with an iPad 1 in the same case. For now, I am using the Verizon Tecnocell case and do prefer that to this one. Many Target stores have this case on clearance for $9.99 btw.
I looked at the Targus Truss, and it seems to be a quality case, though it adds a great deal of bulk to the Touchpad and is very heavy for its purpose (the case by itself is just under 1 pound). Also, the speakers are covered by the tray (for lack of a better word) that secures the Touchpad/iPad in place. The Touchpad-specific model had two speaker cutouts in that tray.
thanks for the info on the targus truss/ipad case, I did look at it at staples over the weekend, but didn't pick it up because it wad the black/teal blue one....the speakers being covered is definitely a deal breaker, guess I'll just wait for another better solution, or unit the price comes down.

iPad cases are much, much easier to find than Touchpad cases. The Apple logo on the outside cracks my ass up. I might pick one up just for that. Apple logo on the outside, Touchpad on the inside. Makes me lol.

Not everyone can get their hands on an official touchpad case, due to country/region. for example, if i have to order one, i will have to pay around 70$
I don't have to order one and they're still $70. That's how much Best Buy was selling them for a week ago. I tried to explain how it's ridiculous to pay $70 for a case that goes on a $99 device. The sales guy stared at me blankly like I was trying to explain unified field theory or something. It did not register at all.

Fair enough, didnt realise they were that rare.
Seem to be quite a few on ebay though.
Hopefully lots will turn up for sale soon as they are very good (apart from the lack of anything to keep them closed. I'm seriously thinking of adding some black elastic to mine.).
Sorry for not getting the video review done yet, I started, then my camera died and I can't find the charger. :/
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FbHGqujieaE here is review I made of my Acase for touchpad I found on amazon.com
I just received a casecrown folio from Senyx on Amazon and it was made for the 1st gen iPad. The dimensions were so close I thought it would be "good enough."
I was wrong.
Apparently the TP is just a little thicker than the iPad so the rubber/silicone grommet-thingy that the tablet squeezes into is really straining to reach up the sides and it looks pretty crappy.
The corners were not bad and it was a soft material so you could work all the hardware buttons. You could close the folio and the folding cover/stand thing worked but you could clearly tell it just wasn't right.
Damn shame too because it looked great (faux reptile) and was dirt cheap.
I gave it to an employee who has the older iPad. No biggie, it was $5 total.
Now I am anxiously awaiting the case from xjarl from the other case review thread.

Picked up a TPU case from Amazon. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0054HA45A
It's pretty much the bomb if you are looking for a TPU case. Cutouts for surround sound mic holes on back and all of the cutouts line up near perfect.
It fits the phone perfectly. I recommend. It's only 8 bucks and they have a few different colors. I got the gloss black. Free shipping if you are a prime member like me.
Sorry, there is dust all over my phone in these pics. It's not sparkly. The case is super rigid TPU. It's not the dust/lint attracting silicon BS you get at T Mobile. I was in a dusty environment when taking the pics.

As I stated in the cases thread, I also own this very nice case.
I also mentioned the downsides it has for me so far, which are the pretty hard to use volume rocker and hard to reach power button. Volume rocker might be due to the way I used to press it on my DHD, there seems to be a position when it actually works pretty easy. But the power button will always be a pain.
Yet, it's actually a failure of HTC, the power button on the side is the only thing I like about the SGS2 which I would LOVE to see on a future HTC phone.

I didn't see your post. I am having no issues with the volume rocker, but I really don't use it much I guess. I never listen to music on my phone.
I would love for this phone to have the power button on the side. All of these Android phone manufacturers should follow Samsung's lead and put them on the side. Everyone is putting them at the top these days! It's pretty awkward pushing a button on the top to lock it every time you put it down.
Loving this case!

Its funny you all complain about the Volume on the top. I remember when the Galaxy first came out there was A LOT of complaints about the power button being on the side. I dont mind the where the power button is on my Galaxy or Sensation... Shrugs.
I do have a question tho. The 2 holes on either side of the camera and the 2 holes near the bottom, what are they for? The TPU case i bought from Amzer (SP?) dont have those holes free. I wonder if they will cause a problem.
Google told the holes are for the antenna connectors.. So it shouldn't be a problem when it's covered.

Thanks for the review! It looks pretty good in the pics.
Hard shell is never my thing.. I don't like silicon cases because of the friction and lint accumulation. Just ordered it on Amazon, I will wait and see if I can live with the added thickness.
I've gone naked for the past few days, I've never used any cases with my blackberry or previous HTC phones. I've never tried TPU cases before, I guess it doesn't hurt to try for 8 bucks.

It adds almost no thickness to the phone. My brother asked me why I didn't have a case when he was playing with it today.
Someone gave this a one star review on Amazon because the volume rocker is harder to press. It's not that hard. Plus you could easily get an exacto knife and cut it out yourself. You will like this case dude.

Yeah, you won't regret it
You won't notice the extra thickness in width, maybe in height, but it doesn't really matter there.
I picked one up before getting the phone. Fits nicely, you can barely notice the thickness. I just wish they had clear one instead of the smoked one that I've got.

Just got it and put it on this morning.
Gotta say I love the fit and finish. Everything fits perfectly without being too tight or lose. It definitely does a great job of preventing scratches or bumps. Now I could toss and slide the phone all I want without worrying scratching the back. The case also doesn't pick up too much pocket lint like silicon cases, while adding friction while holding the phone and minimize incidental drops.
Minor negative is that the power button and volume rocker is noticeably harder to control/press than before without using the case. The added thickness does not subtract from the user experience, but it does add ever so slightly to the bulk.
Then again, which case doesn't have those cons? For 8 bucks, it is a great case. I'll keep using it for now till I find myself using the volume rocker more frequently, which I do use quite often for music and in-call volume adjustments.
If only it wasn't so shiny
I purchased this case as well, it is absolutely fantastic. It fits so perfectly, and I can't believe the price. I was worried I wouldn't like the shine, and that it would be loose, but I've gotten used to it, and it fits tight to the phone. Definitely one of the best cases I have ever owned for any device.
I got mine off Amazon, from TPU Case. Very nice black, I can't complain. I always get TPU cases for my phones but I never got black. They sell the exact same ones on eBay for $8.95 except the shipping is free.
I used the camera on my camcorder, very bad quality but hopefully you can see the holes and what not.
Just got the all black one today, I must say it is a perfect fit, never had a case that fitted this well. No bulk at all, feels just as slim.
I purchased this on Amazon last week. Note it was $7.98 and now it's $8.90. Crazy the price went up, haha!
Here's my review:
I've never used a product before made out of "Durable Flexible TPU (Thermoplastic Polyurethane)" but it seems to do the job quite well. It's an extremely hard durable plastic with just a tiny bit of flex so you can get the case on the phone. (A word of warning: you won't be taking this case off too often because it's really difficult to do so! Once it's on, it's meant to stay!)
As for protecting the phone, it seems like it will do the job. It's sealed *extremely* tight, so hopefully it won't let dust/lint in there like those cheap rubber cases do.
It looks great too, since it's a shiny/glossy black color. That means it's also easy to slip in and out of a pocket, unlike the cheap rubber cases that will stick to the inside of your pocket.
The only bad thing I can see is that it gets kind of greasy easily, even if you wash your hands often. And over time, scratches might show easily as well. (I'll update the review if the case gets scratched or something in the future, but so far so good.)
Overall though, for the price (which was actually a tiny bit lower last week when I bought it) I am extremely satisfied with this case. I want maximum protection and Otterbox is currently refusing to put out a case for the Sensation (not to mention their cases are expensive too). So in the mean time, this TPU case seems to be handling the job quite well. Hopefully my phone remains in perfect condition for the next year so I can resell it easily.
I would highly recommend this case to other Sensation owners, especially for the price, and even more so if you are an Amazon Prime member for the free shipping. It is a pretty great product and I would certainly consider purchasing their cases for my future phone(s).
Does anyone have an opinion on the best case for the Touchpad? I was considering the i-Blazon leather case but wanted to see if anyone cared to weigh in. I tried to post a link to it but apparently I can't until I've posted 8 times. No worries, its the only brown i-Blazon case on google shopping.
Please avoid crap about how 'that case costs almost half of Touchpad'. We live in a world where good products generally cost real amounts of money. Getting the Touchpad for $100 was a STEAL. All of us know that. So... In keeping with the fact that most of us paid nowhere near what the Touchpad is worth... I just want a good case!
If you have thoughts on el cheapo cases, then awesome! I have two Touchpads, one external keyboard, and I'm throughly enjoying WebOS while waiting for Android.
Thank you in advance!
Imho Custom Fit Case is the best one but dam i cant find a way to buy it from Greece :S
edit: the iBlazon case for 20$ is pretty good deal, though are you sure it fits the HP Touchpad?
The link you references is for an ipad case, not the hp touchpad. There is one for the hp touchpad. On Amazon the title is "i-BLASON Executive Portfolio Brown Leather Case Cover Stand with Landscape / Portrait View for HP TouchPad 9.7-inch Tablet Computer". I can't post links yet...
To me, that seems like the absolute best case, but I haven't met another Touchpad user to compare cases with!
Ohh alright i didnt know they made one for Touchpad (though i still believe they just took the Ipad case and renamed it as touchpad case).
And the one you were referring to looks a lot like this one:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/HP-Touchpad...?pt=US_Tablet_Accessories&hash=item20bc367f2a
and its like 1/3 cheaper
The case you linked to is not real leather. The design is similar but the quality is not. Big difference between pleather (PU Leather in that ebay description) and real leather.
The i-blazon case looks to be totally covering up the bezel, except for the home button. That means you won't be able to use the swipe function to minimize windows or close the cards. A deal breaker for me. I'm using the official hp case and love it. I gotta find some kind of elastic strap to keep the "screen flap" from flapping around though.
You could have a look at what Oberon Design have to offer - their iPad 1 covers should fit fine because they use corner straps. I have one of their covers for my Kindle and have modified one of their small journals to accommodate my Sony 650. They are also extremely helpful so if you have any questions, send them an email.
The quality of the leather is simply amazing and it's really well made.
Now for a few words of caution
-Their stuff isn't cheap, particularly when ordering from outside the US with p&p , vat on import etc... (I get stuff delivered to a friend in the US who brings it over when he comes to London for a visit)
-It's made to order so allow up to a week between ordering and despatch
-The covers aren't light - remember, they're nice thick real leather
-The designs aren't going to be to everyone's taste, their stuff is *different* and *original* - the hint is in the name of the company, people who like to just stick with the herd are advised not to look!

Wow nice covers but i cant pay more for a cover than i paid for the device. That said again i have to comment the covers are preety nice.
I did say it wasn't cheap currently debating whether I should get one - they are so incredibly nice in real life, believe me. Every time I have the bad idea of looking at their site I want to buy something. On the plus side, there's fewer designs for the iPad covers than there are for the Kindle so it make choosing a little bit easier. It's also worth remembering that the covers will far outlive the devices so think about ways of modifying them for other uses later! I'm off on hols in a few days so if I have some left-over money when I get back I'll probably order one *sighs* ... I already have the Celtic hounds in black which is jaw-dropping, and the Medici in purple for my other toys. The only strap that looks like it will go over buttons on the TP is the top right one and this isn't a problem because it's the bungee. I'll probably send them an email and ask for the exact location of the straps as the TP is 2.8mm shorter than the iPad, width and thickness are so similar (0.3mm difference) that fit shouldn't be a problem
edit: I have emailed Oberon to ask about the fit, and also given them the relevant measurements. I'm hoping that they can try it if they have a Touchpad at hand (or if they can borrow one) and will update when I get a reply
tbqh, i have the official hp case that was being sold with the device, and i couldn't be happier it functions to protect the unit, and is a 2-stage stand, really an awesome buy in my opinion
I have the official case and whilst it's functional, I just find it incredibly bland . I'm also a bit annoyed with HP for not incorporating something in the design to keep it closed, surely they should have thought about that. I'm using a piece of elastic that I slip over the the case to keep the front flap shut when it's in a bag, not ideal but does the job.
http://store.griffintechnology.com/ipad/elan-folio
That's the case I went with. It's the Elan-folio from Griffin. Works great and holds everything just fine. It was meant for an ipad, but the touchpad fits just as good.
Picked this up from Wal-Mart for $30. It is designed for the iPad 2 but works damn good for the Touchpad. Available in 3 colors. The home button is clearly visible and functional, as is the volume and power.

I've grown so accustomed to (or fond of) the swipe to minimize/close function on the touch pad that I found myself trying to swipe an app closed on my android phone today. Must have swiped 6 times before I realized what I was doing.
Hi folks, I am noob and submit to all its greatness. I was blessed enough to pick up one of these touchpads from BB, and found a case at Compusa you might want to know about
www adesso com - look under the Ipad keyboard section
- I am too newb so I cannot post a link.
It was on sale at Compusa for $50 .
First thing is obvious, this was not made for the touchpad, its designed for an Ipad, and the case has a snug fit around the touchpad but has a bluetooth keyboard that I was able to pair with. The touch pad will fit in slide in pouch, but will not fully clasp. More on that in a second
The Bluetooth Keyboard. - In order to pair with this thing, you must
- turn on bluetooth on Keyb and touchpad
- search for keyboards in bluetooth prefs
- put in a key on the touchpad screen
I used `12345678"
- then type the same on the keyboard (NOTE* You will not see any prompts on the screen, just type "12345678" and press enter. ) This was how I got it to sync and have been able to repeat it . SYNC
The Keyboard is like one of those roll up silicone keyboards, and it has a magnetic backing that attaches to the case and keeps it in place pretty nicely. Under the Keyboard makes a nice little place to keep my official "HP ' cleaning rag.
Back to the case, so this thing has grown on me especially since the bluetooth keyboard works well. I am going to modify mine a little, by sewing in small pieces of elastic in certain places so that it has a little more room to expand. Overall, I think its worth testing out if theirs a retailer that sells it near by. I like it so far.

I agree with you in the official hp case. It fits really nicely and the two angles work perfectly. It is not leather but a kind of high density rubber with felt on any side that faces the touchpad.
The only complaint I have with the case is that it seems to get spots on the exterior. My daughter was wet and walked by me; a drop of water landed on the case and now there is a spot that will not come off.
I just got this in the mail today. Works well. I wanted a case that completely closed around the tp with a zipper.

This acer case fits perfectly and acts as a stand. Was recommended this from the whirlpool forums.
I have the Targus one from Best Buy. It acts as a stand and has a pocket for a stylus as well. The only thing I don't like about it is you have to leave it open to have access to the port for charging.

This acer case fits perfectly and acts as a stand. Was recommended this from the whirlpool forums.

Targus Hughes Leather Portfolio, and my Infinity
Was at the Home store / Ross yesterday with my wife and found the "Targus Hughes Leather Portfolio for the iPad" on clearance for $7 (yes - SEVEN dollars). I googled the dimensions of my Infinity and borrowed a tape measure from the clerk to measure the pocket of the case. It's close, but looked like it would work so I figured for $7 who cares if it doesn't fit. Nice magnetic closure tab too (it tucks as into a tab for a more secure fit as well). The real leather surface is amazing, and smells like my old tried and true leather jacket - mmmmmm lol. So far nothing but good things to say about the craftsmanship. Only had it for a day - so I will update my thoughts over the next week of hard daily use.
I am here to say it DOES fit. It is a tight fit but after leaving the tablet in the case overnight it is now a snug/perfect fit! The case is awesome. Check out the reviews online for it here: (Amazon)

I was looking at slip cases for my TF700T today... hoping to find one that would work well with or without the keyboard dock. I brought home this leather Targus (Staples selling it for $19), as well as a zipper closed slip case from Swiss Gear (A7) and Targus. Thought I'd compare and then return whichever I didn't like.
The leather Targus case is beautifully made -- I would have expected them to charge something more like $35 for this. No way this could ever stretch to accept the dock, so the only possibility is the tab alone. I tried it -- incredibly tight, and actually needed two of us to get the device back out of the case without risking damaging the TF700T. I had just talked myself into keeping the Swiss Gear, and returning the two Targus cases (leather one you reviewed, and the black neoprene case). Now I'm debating... If I can really loosen up the leather one enough, it really is gorgeous - especially for the money, and even at double what you paid. I can definitely see days when I'd travel or just go to meetings with the tablet itself, and then the leather case would be perfect. Other times, I'll want the keyboard and extra battery capacity from the dock... so I'd need to keep the Swiss Gear too...
Decisions!!!
I bought this one in green.
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Brand-New...ccessories&hash=item256c45681b#ht_5224wt_1111
Looks great, and has nice "thick" cushioning for the tab.
My sleeve is a handmade sleeve (not by me, I'll post the link at the bottom) made specifically for the Infinity. Please keep in mind that I took these shots at an impromptu time as I saw this post and I took it with a crappy camera during the cloudy morning, so although it might look a little undesirable, it really isnt.
Anyways, the sleeve has a frontal pocket specifically for the unattached dock, and both compartments are pretty snug. Even if you don't feel like constantly disconnecting the dock, the main compartment can also hold the dock+tablet. The sleeve is padded and it looks pretty too! I know you asked for a sleeve that can fit snugly without a keyboard, but I was thinking that others might be interested in this. I also don't have a keyboard (yet) so I use the pocket for other random things
What I like about this shop is that the person even accepts requests for customization. What I REALLY wanted to do was pay a little more to add two smaller, cubic pockets on the frontal keyboard pocket so I can fit smaller things like SD cards, cables, etc. but I didn't because I needed to save money (college student). You might think it's a little expensive, but it's well worth the money I spent for it. I HIGHLY recommend this sleeve. By the way, this person make sleeves for other devices as well. Enjoy!

No - at least the one I tried (same model - purchased at Staples) could not. As a matter of fact, the first time I insert the tablet (TF700T) itself in the case, it was so snug that I needed to have someone else hold the case by the edges while I found a grip on the tablet that would allow me to wiggle it out without crushing the glass -- it was that tight.
Per the OP, the case will definitely stretch, and I believe that with a bit of patience you can stretch it enough so that the tablet itself would slide in and out relatively easily. I found an old hardcover book that was a tight fit (don't want to use my $500 tablet as a leather stretching tool!) and let it sit in the case for a couple of hours, after which I found that the tablet would go in easily, and could be removed safely with one hand. Still too snug, but I imagine that overnight stretching would probably do the trick.
No way, though, that I can imagine squeezing the dock in there also. A real pity, as the case is nicely made from what appears to be nice belting leather - thick, tough but soft-surfaced, pleasant but unobtrusive smell like a leather jacket. Certainly appears classy. Too limited in application, though, for my taste. So - back it went to Staples.
Same day I tried that one I also brought home two others to try: 10" tablet sleeves (black microfiber / polyester) -- both simple padded sleeves with a single zipper across the long edge. One from Swiss Gear had excellent cushioning inside -- a rubbery material with raised bumps across the surface; another one from Targus was cheaper, but the cushioning was reminiscent of an extremely thin old-fashioned foam rubber pillow -- the Swiss Gear definitely provided more shock protection.
I wound up trying the Swiss Gear sleeve for a day, and wound up finding it really annoying to have to hold the tablet in my hand the entire time I traveled and walked around NYC. I also realized that simply holding it in my hand wouldn't really protect it if somebody in a crowded situation like that (NY - midtown, and subways) bumped into me, so I wound up holding it with my arm bent so it would trapped between my hand and bicep as I wove through crowded streets.
Hard to juggle this also if you need to stop in a public restroom, if you stop to buy a cup of coffee, etc.
By the end of the day, I realized that there was no way I'd be happy simply carrying the tablet around in a case like that. At most, I'd use the case to protect it in a briefcase, or maybe if I were about to drive somewhere and bring the tablet along.
I wound up returning all 3 cases, and have none right now. If I carry it to another appointment, for the moment I'll simply put it in a briefcase or business backpack. Still hunting for a truly usable case.
Anybody have a suggestion for a nice-fitting leather belt holster for the N4? I want to avoid buying something on Amazon that is either too large or too small.
See my earlier post on a case that I bought from Amazon. I'm very happy with it.

2 questions if you don't mind---reviews indicated that the clip fails easily and that the case is bulky, can you comment on either of those?
I've only had it for a week so I can't say anything about its durability; seems solid enough initially, and I don't see any indication of incipient failure so far. (Besides, for $5, if it falls apart after six months, I figure I will have gotten my money's worth! )
As for the size, it's no bigger -- in relation to the phone -- than any other case of its type. I.e., it's about 1 cm longer than the phone and maybe 3 mm wider. It is, of course, a good deal thicker than the phone, since you have three layers of case -- back, front, and flap, each of which adds a couple of mm; maybe that's what that reviewer was referring to? Anyhow, I certainly don't find it to be unreasonably bulky, and I don't see how it could be much smaller and still fit and protect the phone.

This is what I got. I had something like this for an iPhone for 3 years and it still has a lot of life left in it. I think it should fit the phone even with a slim Rearth Ringke case.
I too must use a holster type case, I don't like carrying the phone in my pocket.

That holster is great for about 6 months, but then it starts to break down. Its a generic holster that has been sold forever. I used it with my Galaxy Nexus for months and with my previous phone for about a year before that. The elastic tore away from the leather on one side after 6ish months which I sewed back together terribly and the leather began to peal a little bit around the edges.
That said, I have never had a holster do much better than this. 6 months seems to be the limit for me before it starts really going downhill. This holster was great during its functional life. And its certainly cheap enough to just buy 2 a year.
Edit: Oh yea, the most annoying thing by FAR about this holster is that the magnets come loose in the flap, which at first just means 1 magnet sticks and its very loosely kept closed, but then after that other magnet slips there is nothing to really keep it closed before you shove a pin or knife through the leather to force the magnets back into proper position.
I know I sound harsh on this holster, but its not awful. Reading about it I just ordered another one from Hong Kong for $2.88. Will be here sometime next year probably.
Seidio needs to come out with a spring-loaded holster. I have one for my Evo 3d (waiting on Nexus 4 shipment...) and it's been great. Easily one of the best investments I made for my phone - including the extended battery beast and case.

Got both the holster and the slim Rearth case. I like them both very much.
The Rearth is really slim and it seems very well made (made in Korea, not China, for a change). Not sure it adds any impact protection but that's fine, it will at least protect the back from scratches.
The holster seems decent too, well made, and it fits the phone well even with the slim Rearth case on the phone.
Overall I'm pretty happy with the combo. How's this for a mini-review?
Best One!

If anybody else is interested in this, I received the holster and I'd give it an "okay" rating. As the Amazon reviews warned it is a bit too big. I could probably fit two N4s in there side by side. I am looking in to a Ringke case as well so maybe by the time I add that on there won't be so much space inside. I may try the holster sirxdroid recommended.

Still happy with mine. It's a bit tight with the Ringke case, but not bad at all and it seems to "give" some so it will get better with use.

Hmm, I'm wondering if you got the same case I did; sometimes these generics have multiple suppliers and different lots can be variable. I definitely couldn't fit two N4s into my holster -- it's not a tight squeeze (I don't have to push the phone in), but the N4 is certainly not rattling around in it. Here's a photo of what my phone looks like inside the case. I think it's just about right for ease of access while not being overly roomy.

Yeah I think mine is different than that, the stitching doesn't look the same and my phone isn't in there nearly as snug.
As a side note I also bought the holster recommended by sirxdroid. I like it much better, the fit is perfect.
However....
It has the most unfortunate side-effect of either unexpectedly rebooting or shutting down my phone. I don't know what causes this, if the buttons are somehow getting mashed just right or if maybe the magnet has an effect on the phone. So sadly this case is unusable and I'm now back to Big Bertha.

That is strange, the case is not rebooting my N4, though the phone itself does reboot once in a while for me too but I suspect it's related to bluetooth use and it has nothing to do with the case. Not sure whether you use bluetooth or not, it may be worth keeping it completely off for a while and see if the phone still reboots.
I also have the Rearth case on my phone which makes the buttons a bit harder to press, so maybe that helps the holster not press on the phone buttons inadvertently.
this looks intersting

Anyone have any suggestions for a good kickstand case, I would like something that stands both vertical and horizontal view. I do not care about branding, ebay brandless is OK by me (and cheaper). Preferably hybrid.
I am liking this one so far, but I can't find a US vendor for the color I like (lime).

What kickstand cases do you like/have?
QUESTION REVISED 4/29/14:
What is the best kickstand case under 10 bucks that I can cannibalize to remove the kickstand (to then epoxy it to my favorite S5 non-kick case)?
I used to try to find and use kickstand cases , but 2 yrs ago I cam across the flygrip which was perfect for me as I got tired of searching all the time for a case , now I an purchas any case I find and attach the flygrip directly to it , have a holder on my device to I never drop it and also a kickstand in both directions.
I haven't seen a decent case with a durable kickstand that is stable in both horizontal and vertical positions since the S3 was released (Qmadix case).
So, for my S4 I just found the coolest case and then cut a hole on the back and DIY'd my favorite kickstand (Qmadix) into it.
Unfortunately, that company no longer makes the kickstand case for any phones.
But a nice alternative is to get a stick-on kickstand.

Put it on any case.

I am a bit wary of the girth of the item and how it might dig into my leg, or my jeans while the phone is in pocket.

Not durable enough for me, not any that I have seen at least.
I've been using this one for all my GS phones. Very sturdy and not overly bulky plastic that looks much nicer in person. I need only the kickstand feature (the bottom part), can't say anything about the holster.

This was a contender, but I am gun shy on hard cases. I go to the beach frequently, and sometime end up with a little sand in my pockets. A hard case will rub sand into your phone. If even the tiniest amount gets under, your phone will have massive surface damage. Also, not the greatest corner protection for drops.
I REALLY like the kickstand.

Thanks for the heads-up. In fact I never opened that case and it has gone back.
For ~$18 including shipping I was able to order an Otterbox knock off from iskyphone on eBay (since removed but they claim it will be re-listed). Camo/orange, case is identical in the way it all goes together, and the belt clip doubles as the kickstand. It's not waterproof but the phone is so that's a wash imho. The case includes a built-in screen protector which I'm not a fan of. It's not the cleanest/clearest plastic but with the brightness of the phone you can't tell any difference (again, imho). Pressing around the edges can be tricky (aka pressing the 'a' key for example), but I suppose the screen needs protecting also.
All in all I'm happy with it and also not having spent an additional $42. Perhaps the official OB is better, but probably not two thirds better.

have a peek at the youtube videos on the flygrip , there very slim and sturdy i just got my flygrip gravity new style then the original , and just love it , i keep my phone in my jean pockets a lot to , but not skintight geans , just normal , and can never feel it. if you give it a try i almost cirtian you will never go back.
also can be removed with no damage to back of phone or case as it uses 3m adhesive double sided tape to attach .
While its still listed as "under development," I've had their cases on my TB, S3, Note II and as soon as their completed my S5.

Kinda $$, but IMO, well worth it.

have a peek at the youtube videos on the flygrip , there very slim and sturdy i just got my flygrip gravity new style then the original , and just love it , i keep my phone in my jean pockets a lot to , but not skintight geans , just normal , and can never feel it. if you give it a try i almost cirtian you will never go back.
also can be removed with no damage to back of phone or case as it uses 3m adhesive double sided tape to attach .

It looks like an awesome product, but I have never even spent that much on a case, let alone a kickstand. $30 is pretty steep. I wonder if they ever go on sale.

I hear you on that oen , it costs me 30 buck for it and 13 to ship it to Canada , I think free or discount shipping code in the us is bbking77 might give a slight or free discount on shipping.

I have been thinking about this, and until a less sucky kickstand case becomes available, I have decided to revise the question:
What is the best kickstand case under 10 bucks that I can cannibalize to remove the kickstand (to then epoxy it to my favorite S5 non-kick case)?
Provisions:
1. All I need is the kickstand, it can be for any phone on the market. 10 year old phones even.
2. Must be able to stand vertical, and horizonal.
3. Cheap.
4. Preferably black.
Another way to phrase it might be...What is the best vertical kickstand case you have ever owned?
One vote from CZ Eddie on the q-madix case.
Anyone else?

I ended up going with a Note 3. And I'm going to do the same DIY mod again because it worked so well last time. But this time, I'm going to take my time and make it have a NICER looking cutout. But here's my DIY thread if you want to check out how I did it.

This time, I'm going to cut out the hole smaller than it needs to be. And then use a file to gently file the hole out to the correct dimensions. This should make it look more "stock" 'ish.
I recommend the Galaxy S3 Qmadix Metallix kickstand case for sourcing the kickstand part from. You can find it for $10 shipped if you look around.

Btw, in the meantime I did use the stick-on kickstand. It works GREAT, even on my Note 3.
The only problem is it creates a bulge on the back of the case that makes it so the phone doesn't sit flat in my car and home docks. And when opened, the hole under the kickstand is just a bit too small for my normal sized fingers to go through, unlike the Qmadix kickstand which my fingers fit inside the loop great.
