[Q] Linux tablet with USB host - General Questions and Answers

I want to create a dedicated device for managing USB drives at work, and I'm currently looking for a suitable tablet to base it on.
Requirements are 7-10", capacitive touchscreen and usb host.
The reason I want a proper linux rather than Android is I need to have wide file system support, formatting tools etc.
My best candidate so far is the Archos 70 or 101 Gen8.

Hi,
I've just installed Android-x86 Ice Cream Sandwich on an Acer Aspire One.
In case of a regular Android phone (I have a Galaxy S) the only thing I need is to connect the phone to the PC and then I'm ready to run my application from Eclipse.
I would like to do the same thing using this Acer netbook running Android-x86, however, I don't know how to do it. I tried connecting the netbook with the PC using a male-male USB cable, but the PC doesn't recognize the device, in fact, it doesn't even observe any new devices attached.
Can you help me on what should I do in order to be able to execute Android applications from my PC on this netbook running Android?

Not quite sure what you're trying to achieve, but if you're looking for a way to transfer files and stuff, try samba

[Q] Without Android

Hi everyone! I'm new on this forum but I learnt a lot here and I'd like to start with a question.
Is it possible to run a linux distribution on an android phone with dual booting or run a distribution on it's own with the deletion of Android OS?
Sort of possible.... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1696659 but not on any android although some devices such as the transformer have been hacked to run linux instead of android.

Thank you mistermentality! I already knew the VPN method to run Ubuntu on top of Android with sharing the kernel.
Of course I've read everything here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1696659 but what I want is to run a linux distro on an ARM cpu without Android, so on the smartphone only that particular linux distribution would run.
For example you could choose which OS to boot.
I've created a blog which is going to deal with this.

[Completed] Source Question

I have some basic questions with just a need of clerance. I'm willing to do the research just need to be nudged in the right direction.
Do I need android SDK installed onto my linux laptop in order to port CWM?
What is a source exactly? A backup of my system files or the code of android verison?
Depends on your meaning of port, but no for the most part you don't need the SDK although some of the tools will be helpful for debugging
Source usually refers to android source and/or custom ROM/kernel or oem source code

[Completed] USB OTG MTP between Android devices

Hi everyone!
I'm trying to transfer data from my phone to my tablet using USB OTG. So far without luck. When I plug my phone to the tablet it suggests opening the Gallery to transfer pictures.
In general USB OTG works, I can connect a mouse and everything. I can also transfer pictures from my camera to the tablet. From phone to tablet it doesn't work, no matter if I choose MTP or PTP for the connection.
The phone is a Galaxy S7 (G930F), the tablet a Tab S2 (T810). Both are rooted. How can I transfer data between them using MTP?
Thanks in advance for any help!
Hi there,
It seems that you already found the best place on XDA to post your question for both devices. Please try to understand that this forum is for point you in the correct direction with your problem/device.
Good luck
Hey Razvan!
Thanks for the advice. I posted it here, as I assume it is a general problem and doesn't have much to do with the devices used. I just gave the information about the devices for completeness.
Is this the wrong place to ask general questions that are not related to a specific device?
