[Q] 3G? - HTC Inspire 4G

well everyone i rooted my Inspire 4G and recently i have been getting 3G when i should have HSPA+ right now but its switching between the H+ symbol and the 3G symbol back when it was unrooted all i had was Edge (2G) and HSPA+ so idk but i need conformation that my phone is still in prime condition please help! and thanks if you do

From the dialer, type *#*#4636#*#* and see what it shows for network type. Mine shows HSPDA which is faux g. If it shows UMTS, then you are on 3G.

The symbols are different as to which ROM you have installed. They seem to mean very little as your real connection.

Thanks guys!

What happen to my 3G?

Ever since I been having my Inspire I never seen 3G show up on my status bar. I always see H+ available, H+ connected and E. Never seen 3G yet, what's up with that.

H+ is AT&T's work toward 4G and its faster than your 3G, they have provided this service to all their customers. This is something that happened a few weeks ago...

ATTs stock ROM uses an H+ icon to indicate connectivity to 3G (UMTS), 3.5G (HSDPA), and "4G" (HSPA+). They do this to make customers think that they're ocnnected to "4G" HSPA+ all the time, even when it's not available in your area. Stock ROM also has an E icon for EDGE. Most of the ported DHD ROMs have an E icon for EDGE, a 3G icon for UMTS, and an H icon for HSDPA and HSPA+. The only way you can tell for sure what network you're connected to is by going to Settings - About Phone - Network and looking at your Mobile network type. This will tell you which network you are actually connected to
H is the 3G icon. that is just the way att is displaying it. you wont see 3G as they are calling it H. H stands for HSDPA which is 3g, so no worries you are fine.

[Q] Why does my Sensation only show 4G and 2G?

Hey guys,
I have a T-Mobile Sensation 4G and was wondering why does the phone only show 4G, 2G, and G as a my service? I used to have the Samsung Vibrant and I would get 3G, Edge, and G. Does this mean everytime there is no 4G I automatically go down to 2G? Does the Sensation not support 3G? Is there a way to change this?
Thanks for your help guys. Hoping to figure this out.
Mine does the same. It's perfectly normal too since t-mobile's "4G" is technically just a beefed up 3G which means you're connected to the same towers that you were before with your old phone. If you have 4G in your area it means that your 3G towers are your new 4G towers. So if you have no 4G then you literally have no 3G and with switch to 2G. Make sense?

Let me go a step further to describe/explain our new signal layout.
4G = 4G, H or 3G
2G = Edge
G = 1G, 1x
I hope that makes it a bit easier to understand,.

HTC one S EDGE speeds

Herro! first time poster, long time lurker! i searched around, and couldn't really find a similar problem.
I got an HTC one S from Fido, unlocked it, and i've been trying to use it on Bell. I tried several different APN's until one finally worked...but only EDGE speeds! It's also draining my battery extremely quickly. also, when i put my bell sim card inside, preferred network mode changes to WCDMA instead of HSPA (like on the fido sim).
why is this happening? i was told a fido phone would work on bell with no problem. why no 4g speeds?
thank you and i appreciate the responses in advance
HSPA uses WCDMA, so that makes no sense... Under preferred network you should have WCDMA only, 2G only, or WCDMA preferred if I recall correctly as I'm not on stock HTC rom atm so can't check. Are you getting an "E" signal indicator or are you just getting a slow connection? What does it say under About phone>Status>Mobile Network Type?
Set it to Auto mode in the network settings.

yeah, all the tech support i've talked to said it makes no sense either . i get the same outcome whether i put it on WCDMA only or GSM/WCDMA auto. when i do the speed test, it always comes out under 1 mb/s. it actually has the 4G symbol up, but the speed isn't there.
mhmm, it switches between UMTS and HSDPA.
If you have UMTS and HSPDA under status its working, and those are also what connection you're really on. If you always have a 4g icon on status bar it seems like your carrier has modded the software like T-Mobile USA does so it always shows 4g no matter what's up in the real world.
Maybe you're not in a good location and that's why you get slow data. Also I have no idea how Canadian carriers work but I'd guess if you're connected to a 850 MHz cell you'll get worse speeds than on a 1700/1900 one. Don't you guys have insane data caps everywhere, perhaps you hit yours when speedtesting?
did you try a new sim from bell

[Q] 4G-LTE not work

hello all ..
I have a question.
I have the i727 phone with Cyanogen and Rooted. 4g icon does not appear in the notification bar, the connection works flawlessly, appearing H, H +, 3G but not 4G icon. What does that mean? before when I was working the STOCK ROM 100% sure the 4G, also tell them that in my country there's Connect 4G. but I'm not sure what type of connection that handles the phone. I downloaded this: << radio att-I727-UCMC1-no-csc-no-ril-cwm >> and I've installed, but still the same. I've also changed the APN, choosing the type of APN I select LTE but in doing so cut the signal. (apparently the phone is not supported)
Details:
Before: ATT & T STOCK JB 4.1.2 Rooted
Now: cm-10.1-20130607-NIGHTLY-SuperSU skyrocket + Root file-0.93-Busybox-1.20.2
Is there a solution?
Excuse my writing, I did it with the help of google translator but stepping reviewing the words to match the text well.
from Paraguay
Thank you!

The stock AT&T ROM shows 4G for HSPA/+ but 4GLTE when there's LTE available. Cyanogenmod reports the actual data connection. It shows H/H+ for HSPA/+ and 4G for LTE. That's probably the confusion.

far as I understand, ATT&T has a fault, shows 4G icon when in fact that is not a Connection Connect 4G. I mean, I understand that: 4G is not the same for H+ because H+ is actually 3.5G. it? is this correct?

Correct; AT&T shows 4G even when it is only actually 3.5G. You were probably only getting H+ all along, but AT&T's software misrepresents your connection.

finally! I get it now! ... thank you very much! it is unfortunate that these errors come from the factory that exist only to confuse people.
10 minutes ago, I called my local operator, and said that the 4G or LTE service is not enabled yet in my country. (Just right through usb modem for LTE notebook works here, but not for mobile phones) so which I now understand that 4G phone on the screen showed when it was actually connected to a 3.5 or H + that would be the same thing ...

tmobile LTE icon

Is anyone on tmobile getting LTE icon instead of 4G? 4G is the highest I can get in preferred network type, not sure if this is normal..
EDIT: looks like this is normal for asus phone. 4G = LTE. When I dail *#*#4636#*#* and phone information, it shows LTE as network type.
