[Q] Access Hard Drive plugged in router via Transformer - Eee Pad Transformer Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi Guys
I have an external Hard Drive-Maxtor one-touch connected to router-DLink 655 via USB. I can access the contents of the HD on my computer via sharepoint.
I am trying to access it on my Transformer
Is there a way to do this?
I have SBN, CIFS manager but cannot setup to access the drive.
Any advice and instructions will be highly appreciated.
Thanks in anticipation.
Regards,
Misfitz

Have you checked the App ES File Explorer?
It has connections for Local (what's on your TF), LAN, FTP & Net.
Using it I can pick up my hard drive connected to my router through LAN.

thanks..i am exploring the option

In the Cifs manager, go to 'settings' and tick the two boxes regarding the loading of modules on startup....
Next, ensure your external drive is 'shared' and set the Cifs connection up using the standard mount i.e \\ip address of PC\share name
Voila, shouldn't be any more difficult than that. You may need to add username/password if you have setup security or using a domain

Quickest Way to Wirelessly Transfer Files to my PPC from my Desktop?

Hi all,
I'm looking for the quickest way to wirelessly transfer files to my Pocket PC from my Desktop, without using ActiveSync.
Is it via BT Explorer? I have used this before but wonder if there is another way before I buy a BT dongle for my desktop. If there is an application out there that perhaps does it over WiFi, I'd like to try that. I'm willing to pay for it if it's a decent app.
How does everyone typically transfer files without having to connect to USB and fire up ActiveSync?
i just select the file on vista, right click on mouse and select "send to -> bluetooth device"
Cool, thanks for the reply. I use XP but it looks like it has this feature as well.
Depends what you mean by quickest. If you mean just click on file and send to other device, then bluetooth is the "quickest" once you have established the partnerships. If you mean how fast the file(s) get transferred to the other device, then WiFi will do it faster, but you need to map network drives, setup sharing, permissions, firewalls, etc. You would also need a program that allows mapped network drives, like Resco. Personally, I use bluetooth all the time to transfer files to/from my phone. I use Wifi only when I need to transfer music or pictures or large files. Hope this helps.

Try this cab I'm attaching. Its Schaps_NetworkPlugin_1_0_30468_1. It will show up in Settings, connections...click on Network plug in. You have to then tick on the box that says "Enable Network Folders". It will ask you to soft reset your device. When its done resetting, go back to settings, connections, network plug in. Make sure your TP2 is connected to your network, and that your drives are shared in the network, then open the network plug in. Tap on "New" at the bottom of your screen, then tap on the "browse" tab. Open up the tree for network neighborhood and search for your drive on your network. It may ask for a password & log in. If your pc has no password, leave everything blank and make sure the save password option is ticked on. Tap OK for the password screen, and save the password. When you find the drive you want to access, you tap and hold on the drive to either explore it once in file explorer, or map it so that it always appears on file explorer (As long as your connected through wifi of course). If you map the drive, everytime your wifi is enabled and connected and the host pc is on and connected, you should be able to view your host pcs drives through the file explorer in your TP2. Hope this helps. I use this feature alot myself.
PS. In file explorer the mapped drive will show up in the root folder of the device in a folder called "Network"

Thanks for the file... I have got it working but whenI browse for my network, I find Network Neighborhood and then the tree goes to my Pc (name). It does not show any of my drives on the "PC" ? Do I need to create "network drives" on my desktop machine or should it map to my drives through my computer ID?
Thanks so much

You have to share your drives on your pc. Right click on the drive(s) you want to access and click properties, click the sharing tab and set it up there for sharing. Make sure you give read write and copy access to the drive before you hit OK. If you need more detailed help with setting up the drives on your network let me know and I will help. Please provide details on what OS you are using (I.E. Windows XP, Vista, 2000 ect.) Also be aware that once you share those drives on your pc, anyone with access to your network, even through your wifi, will have access to those drives so make sure you have either a mac address filter on your wireless router or some form of encryption so outsiders don't access your personal files. (I am a computer technician by trade as you can see....lol) Again any further help needed on the sharing let me know. I am always willing to help.

Thanks for the reply and the advice. I did get it connected. I did not realize that I needed to enter my login user name and password (for my desktop pc) to creat the connection. I was just bypassing the login info!

[Q] File transfer options other than usb? (Bluetooth, wifi, etc)

Since the transformer doesn't have usb without the keyboard dock, i was wondering if there are any apps that work with it that allow transfering files to and from the device via bluetooth, wifi or other method. If so are there other reasons people are concerned about the lack of usb on the device itself?

Hi,
I'm not really concerned with the missing usb....
There is always the microSD card. Also the wifi is good for transfering files: ES file explorer just transfered 313 images from my NAS to the Transformer.
Something that I'm not completly happy about is the MyNet app. It finds my DLNA server on the NAS, but could only manage viewing images and listening to music. Still can't get it to play video.

I discovered the magic of dropbox with my Galaxy Tab. I`d drop stuff into it on my main pc and then access with the Tab whenever I wanted. Great for smaller files like ebooks, PDFs, photos etc
can't you just plug the tablet into your computer?
With mine I just plug the cable that came with the device into my tab, plug the other end into the usb port on my computer and it shows up as an external drive. I just drag and drop.
Did I misunderstand the problem?
You can hook it up to the computer, it just has a propriety connection, it comes with the USB connector cable, it looks similar to the Iphone/Ipod cables if that helps

I don't understand why don't you just plus the USB end of the HDMI cable straight into you laptop/pc USB port and drag and drop any files.
That's another great thing android has over ipoo.
I've used bluetooth fine to transfer files between my Desire HD and the Transformer. In bluetooth settings there's advanced -> FTP server, then use ES File Explorer or something to browse files. Or you can push them the other way using 'send to' 'bluetooth'.
Oh where Oh where?!?

Uhmmm... where exactly?!? In Bluetooth settings, I have:
Bluetooth (On/Off)
Device name
Identifiable (On/Off)
Identifiable duration
Display received files
(Roughly translated from French)
No menu, no advanced settings, nothing.
I have the 16GB, Android 3.2.1 Transformer TF101
BlueTooth Version 6.24
Core Version 2.6.36.3
Build Number HTK75.US_epad.8.6.5.21
Precisions would be appreciated.
Why do you need a wired connection when you can connect using a lot of wireless options, such as:
Direct transfer bluetooth (device - device)
FTP (from or to a server)
SMB (Windows shared files/folders)
Also another great choice is unmount the SD card, and plug it to a card reader on the PC you want to copy things.

Sorry, that option is only on the Desire HD so 'built-in bluetooth file server' must be a HTC Sense thing, not standard Android. It's not in ICS either :-/
If you want to run a bluetooth file server on your Transformer, just download either 'Bluetooth File Transfer' or 'File Expert'. Once the server is running you can access it using the same app or 'ES File Explorer' on the phone.
File Expert will also do FTP over WiFi which will be faster.

I absolutely need BlueTooth. I've got this nifty little device called an Anoto pen, which is able to recors your writings on a specially marked paper. It packages those writings into a file with a PGC extension, then sends it to any moble device using BlueTooth. I have been able to make it work with numerous devices with various versions of Android (2.1 or later). But it won't work with the Transformer. I tried with BlueFTP as well, no go.
It's my impression the Transformer does not implement OBEX or OOP (whichever is needed to receive files) or simply refuses files whose extension it does not recognize. For instance, if I try to send a JPG file via Bluetooth to the Transformer using another Android phone, it works. But if I try, from that same other phone, to send a PGC file, it fails.
Any help would be truly appreciated.
Ah, yes you do need OBEX.
And you're right that only some filetypes seem to be accepted by the standard Honeycomb OBEX receiver.
But you're in luck:
The app 'Bluetooth File Transfer' has its own implementation of the OBEX receiver, you might need to enable it in settings, that one seems to accept any type of file transfer.
Watch for toasts when the app starts (after enabling the setting), if you see one saying that OBEX failed because something else is using the port you'll need to turn Bluetooth off so that the standard Honeycomb OBEX receiver stops listening, then turn on Bluetooth via the Bluetooth File Transfer app so it gets to start its receiver before the Honeycomb one starts.
I managed to make it work with BlueTooth FTP. Just needed to grant SU (again?!?), and it worked right out the box.
Now, on to my CyanogenMod'ed HTC Magic, which has the same kind of issue. Maybe your little trick about the order in which to turn bluetooth off/on will work.
I'll post back my results.

[Q] Using SHIELD as a network drive

This thread is more of a question.
Yesterday I was trying to accsess the internal SD card's files. I was having trouble mounting the drive to Ubuntu12.04 and found out that it is really difficult and a long prosess, so I thought of the idea of using its SD card as a Network Drive so i can acsess all of its files without plugging it in and mounting it. Is this possible?

I use ubuntu 13.10 and it has a bit of trouble mounting it as well. If it's already plugged in and I try mounting it I usually get an error a couple of times before it will mount then it's fine. However if I unplug the cord and plug it back in, it will mount it no problems. I have tried using the USB port on my router for the same thing and it didn't want to recognize it. I haven't tried doing it wirelessly but I do know you could install an ftp server app on your shield and then R/W to the SD card that way, or you should be able to at least.

You use the LAN IP of the shield. Connect to it through your web browser, or, which is a better option, download an FTP client to your computer and use that.

never used that client before so i cant say anything about it. Do you have the correct user and password entered and if not using do you have guest privileges set on the server? Using proper port?. There has to a better option then this, ill see if i can find anything.

I typed in all the fields correctly, Filezilla would just not connect. I also tried going to the "connect to server" option on Ubuntu and set it to FTP server and that also could not connect.

Connect MTP via Wi-Fi

I've been using freefilesync to keep my phone's music library synced properly with my computer. Currently using an S7 (Verizon) with 6.0.1.
Is there a way to connect my phone wirelessly (either through my home network Wi-Fi or Wi-Fi Direct) to my Windows 7 PC via MTP (Since apparently USB Mass Storage is now not an option at all)??
Or do I have to use the USB cable to get MTP functionality. I've used Airdroid and some server app but they don't give MTP and the ability to sync, they do give the ability to transfer files but that's not what I'm looking for, plus you can do that via ES File Explorer in a much simpler way.
I truly want my PC to read my phone's contents and only update what's missing or newer, I don't want to have to "search" my phone myself and manually copy/transfer files.
thanks for any help.
