THE GPS Fix - Samsung Infuse 4G

PROBLEM:
Okay, I was tired as hell of not having GPS. I tried a ton of fixes on the internet, with absolutely no success. supl.google.com, supl.nokia.com, etc didn't work for me.
SOLUTION:
In the dialer type *#*#3214789650#*#* to access either lbstestmode or AngryGPS, depending on your ROM. Make sure Operation Mode in General Settings (AngryGPS) is on MSBASED, and go to the SUPL settings. Set the SUPL server to "h-slp.mnc410.mcc310.pub.3gppnetwork.org", port to 7275, and secure socket on. (Also I think one of the settings needs to be SUPL). Reboot and try again.
RESULT:
Before this I couldn't get a lock within 10 minutes and didn't have the patience to wait longer. Now I get locks in 15 seconds and within 10 meters.
Tell me whether it worked for you.
EDIT: added picture of 2 second lock.

Give it some time, it will eventually flake out again. If it wasn't so screwed up there wouldn't so many different "fixes" out there.

Oh yeah, and it seems to work better on Infused 2+ than stock or Infused 1.6.

I was kinda struggling earlier, but dunno how these settings made it possible, but I am not getting a lock in under 5-6 seconds in nearly all tests - geo location, maps, tracking, etc. First lock took about 17 seconds, but since then its been under 5-6 seconds.

here's my experience with this overall:
* 2 important things are a) getting a lock in less time b) tracking with accuracy
* some fixes get locks in short time whereas some are more accurate while driving, I'm yet to find a good combination on both.
Also, starting the GPS in "cold start" mode also reduces lock time with original settings, leading me to believe that some kind of cache corruption is at play. With supl.nokia.com, it gets lock under 5 seconds, but Google Navigation is all over the place - frustrating. Shame on Samsung!

As I stated in my original post, the Google SUPL server didn't work for me. Infuses are apparently not all the same. I hope people try this along with my fix.

These settings work because a lot of Infuses are strangely incompatible with the default SUPL server Samsung ships it with.

[APP-Kernels] Kernel Manager released!

Kernel Manager released! Lite (free): http://tinyw.in/0i8, Pro (cost): Available in the Market...ENJOY!
Hey everyone! I wanted to introduce a new app with a very simple but ambitious goal: create a place where all kernel developers can submit kernels easily and reach a much wider audience with ease.
The app currently does this:
1) Downloads a kernel from our fast and stable teamwin server
2) Unzips the relevant files (modules included)
3) Flashes the kernel
4) Installs the kernel modules
5) Clears cache/dalvik-cache
6) Reboots to apply the changes.
This entire process takes less than a minute, generally, (depending on download speeds of course ), and it is extremely simple for end-users to find a kernel, filter by kernel features (BFS, CFS, HAVS, SBC, etc) download/install kernels, and submit ratings for their favorite kernels.
If you use IRC, join us in freenode in #kernel-manager!
In order for this to be a success, we need support from kernel developers like YOU! Submitting a kernel to Kernel Manager is totally free and we even provide hosting for you! Right now I'm looking for kernel developers to submit kernels to start populating the app. Submitting kernels is easy!
THE LINK IS FOR KERNEL DEVELOPERS SPECIFICALLY! Go to http://kernels.teamw.in and register for an account! Once it's approved, you can easily enter new kernels, which immediately show up in the app. The app will be released in the market, and there will be a free+ad supported version, and a for-cost version that removes the ads.
Right now, we have a specific list of supported phones, but plan to add every nand-unlocked phone as soon as possible. (There are a lot of variables to account for on multiple devices to make sure the process works )
Please feel free to provide me with any feedback you have, or feature requests in order to make this a great tool for all of android to utilize!

You guys are awesome on xda. App works perfectly.
Started a kernel flash - during the download, I switched from 3G to WiFi. It didn't like that! Download froze. Phone locked. Just had to push power button until screen off, then power button on to get phone back. From Manage Applications, did a a clear data, clear cache, force close. Tried to run it again (saw that download count was up by one) and it immediately went into unzip. That ran a bit with nothing happening, so I killed it again. Looked on my sd card and found the kernel zip; it was only a couple of hundred kb. in size. Deleted it, ran it again; everything ran smooth (and download count went up by another one.)

[Mod] Speaker volume boost WIP.

While poking around in the hidden app menu on the stock firmware I found this audio Cal menu. Only thing its in hexedecimal and I don't know it too much. Basically this menu will allow us to safely boost the speaker volume on our phones. Screenshot below. If anyone can help please chime in. I remember on the N1 audio.boost was impossible until cm7.

Ok I tried to change values, but it won't except anything, always has an error. I was, however, able to get an almost instantaneous gps lock between gps status from the market and the gps "system settings" in the hidden menu. You might want to send rotohammer a PM. If I remember correctly, he was the first to successfully achieve volume boost with the Nexus One. Since he has a g2x might be something he'd be interested in taking a look at.
I know this is not helping now but for 2.3 there is help. On the market app called volume + sound booster. Works on all my 2.3 devices.

Nice. I found the menu. I haven't tried tweaking the settings, but by default, mine are:
178
178
75
75
0
0
(Respectively, per your screen shot)
If you build your own kernel (or use the one I just posted in the OC/UV kernel thread), you can munge the star_wm8994 driver to allow you to write these registers directly.
I have successfully boosted the crap out of the headphone output (0x1c/0x1d), although the framework will periodically reset them when a call comes in or when you fiddle with the volume controls.
If you just want LOUD headphone output though, works like a charm.
You want to enable the data sysfs entry in star_wm8994.c, then once you have that and can cat:
/sys/devices/platform/star_wm8994/data
to see a dump of the wm8994 state, you can write:
1c 7f
...and...
1d 17f
to the data file (just echo will do), and you will have maxed out headphone boost.

FYI, I'm on stock rogers (2.3.3) and I've had this exact same issue from day one. I haven't done any notable tinkering except for routing, but the problem existed before and after.
From what scraps of info I could find thru searching, I understood it to be a bug in 2.3.3, not around in froyo or anything later than 2.3.3.
So I suspect OC/UV settings may be a red herring. I was hoping a newer rom would fix it :-(

That is true about 2.3.3 having the "battery bug" but the Infuse version of Dlev is based on 2.3.4 and doesn't seem to have the same issue that I've seen.

Edit: There's also starting to be evidence that certain behaviors on some wifi networks (such as possibly a badly behaving SSDP client) can inhibit deep sleep of Android devices.
i think I might have fixed my drain problem, Juicedefender along with those voltage tweaks... or is juicedefender really not a good app?
Also I am having data issues, there are times when I have a full 4 bars but no internet. I did the APN fix but I am a little confused with setting it to auto switching off. Should the circle be checked for the new APN that I created? Do I delete the other 2?

Does anyone have any idea on how to get at&t vvm to work on aosp or aokp ics?
Love cm9 and aokp but would love to not get an error telling me:
" could not play message. Please try again later or call voicemail."
When I try to play messages.
ANY help or smart arse remarks are welcome

Wierd, I just installed the vvm.apk and it worked like a charm first try. On CM9 20120614 nightly build.
Attached is the apk that I installed.

Did you play a message back? NOT the test msg. That works fine.
I used the same apk... and the same build.
I was able to install and see my vmails, but not play them.
Edit: just reinstalled, set up my account. Installed nothing but vvm.
Same results as previously stated.

Yes, I see what you mean. Did some debugging and it's a problem with how VVM is interfacing with the android media player to playback the message. Throws and exception on prepare();
Interestingly, if you menu -> export to file (in /emmc/Music/voicemail-...) and then play it in Apollo it works just fine.
Digging a little deeper, might take some time...

You rock! Thanks for the workaround, at least.
So glad Its a "normal" issue and not user specific
Edit: confirmed work around works

Bump Would like this fixed too
In the mean time just switched to using GV VM, the integration into cm9 call log is nice, and transcription is a plus.

Just curious, what exactly were the steps for this? I downloaded GV, went through the set up. I called myself and left a voicemail. I got my normal voicemail notification then some minutes later received GV notification but, when I went to play it it shot me an error. The transcription doesn't appear to work (i.e. didn't even show up in the GV inbox)...any suggestions? I am running AOKP, not CM9...
Okay, went onto google.com/voice and went to activate voicemail...calling the number provided (*004*1XXXXXXXXXX#) after doing some other settings with my GV number, it appears to have worked...need to test and will write back if it does work...
Edit2: Okay, appears to be working. My only gripe is that when I receive a voicemail, it gives me the voicemail notification but with the phone number that called. When I click it, it opens up the contacts app with a play button and the such. Upon clicking the play button, it errors out...oh well. If anyone else needs to know steps for setting up GV, I can help...just let me know.
GV app has an option to switch your voice mail to GV, but it usually fails setting the forwarding numbers.
Easiest way to set it up is to go into dialer settings and set the voice mail number for "my carrier" and the three conditional forwarding numbers to your GV number. That way pressing 1 on dialer dials Google vm and calls roll to Google vm if unanswered.
Which is why I would rather use vvm. Even if it takes an extra step
I'm a flashoholic and don't want to have to mess with it every time.
Somehow, someway I WILL figure this out. Or not, lol.

Was definitely a lot of work initially but now that I know what to do...should be quicker...but definitely annoying in the long run, not gonna lie...i do like the fact that GV has the transcribe option whereas you have to pay for that from AT&T...

You don't have to mess with it after every flash, forwarding numbers are stored in the network and vm access number is stored on the SIM card. GV app is in data/app so rom flash won't touch it.

Longest battery time with jb

wow! i can't belive it. i've installed cm7.2, because ics and jb have so much battery drain! only 12-14 hours in idle and with wlan sometimes even less! i've tried several kernels but no real changing.
my wish are only 24 to 36 hours runtime (mail, some messages, weather and traffic)!
which rom do you use? which kernel and what settings?
Thats why i posted this. So Many comments about battery drain. As i said i am on jellytime from blindndumb. Kernel 3.0.42. Switching mobile data or wifi only on if i need to.
hmmm that's the problem. i absolutely need mobile data for whatsapp and mail!
ahhmm is this the correct thread? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1605896

maybe you can use Tasker to swich data on/wifi on every 15 minutes to get an update...
BTW. I always have data/wifi on. I think smartphone without data is like fish without water
a couple of sms, 3 calls and surfing with smartphone is quite shocking actually...huhu...i used whatsapp, gmail, wifi (downloading) navigating with google maps, gaming quite frequent...so 1.5 days of usage is really makes me happy....fallout 5.0 with amidabuddha latest kernel really impressive...
i have a mission..... i will try it after work! are there any important CPU governors?

I am also using data, but only at specific times. 3 or 4 times a day. I would really like an APP, that switches on data if i switch on the screen, and off if the screen turns off. My Mail is loaded if i turn on data anyway. Does someone know such an APP?
i've read this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=31686138&postcount=72
maybe the reason for the bad battery drain is the newest htc radio..... at home i'm going to test it and flash the kernel! i hope this will be the answer to everything..... i can't belive it!

I have just yesterday flashed Fallout evoliution v5 ROM abd with UV custom voltage -50 and CPU set 1200mhz max on Active and 500Mhz Max on sleep and i got 2% Drain of battery in 11,5hours. It got from 100% to 98% It was on standby aswell and i did 1- 2 mins call and did 2 or 3 Text messages. And when i started Some mid- heavy usage it drained to 65 % in 4,5 hours. So its not best but its not something you should fear, it is completely reasonable for every day usage.

There is APP called tasker, it can pretty much make your phone super smart. But it asks for a lot of setting up. You can make your phone for example every time your gps app is turned on to turn GPS receiver on and shut it down on closing the APP, or in your case Switch data ON when you turn browser or app store on and turn data off after you close that program or screen is off.
As i said it is very smart APP which makes your phone very smart aswell, and it can make multiple scenarios and it can look up for multiple variables at the same time to make a decision
