[Q] Gingerbread on AT&T in August=BS then? - Samsung Infuse 4G

Well there's still no gingerbread update for the infuse. AT&T promised it would be out in August. I do not see any sign that they even considered releasing it beyond that statement. So how long do you think it'll ACTUALLY take them to release GB on the Infuse?

There is thread about this where, someone stated that a rep from At&t had spoke with him and that the confusion was for the Inspire or some ****. and that the infuse update would be maybe by years end.
oh well......pick a Rom and move on.

No. I haven't been able to get a ROM to install once. After losing all my contacts, messages, and data five times for nothing, I'm sticking with froyo.
sent from my Samsung Infuse 4G

Well your only option is to use a custom rom. If you don't wanna use it then your gonna have to go back to captivate if you want gb
Android kicks apples ass.. Infused 2.1.0

You can back up your data before upgrading. Contacts should be in the cloud. SMS Backup and Restore for your SMS. Titanium Backup for your app.

Fascinate getting OTA now

Sorry, my bad. I read the acclaim and fascinate as one. The fascinate is getting an OTA right now though.
WTF??
We are the last?!
I will never own a ATT phone anymore.
Worth the extra money to get whatever you want that works.
Where does it say this is Froyo?

How exactly is AT&T last when no one else in the US with a Galaxy S phone has official Froyo?
DL09 = Eclair 2.1.
That means Facinate will not get Froyo until couple months later if get one at all. Poor Facinate owners.

[Q] New Inspire User with Stupid Questions

Howdy, folks. Hope I can rely on your feedback regarding a few Inspire related questions, because your answers will determine whether I bring it back or not.
For the record, I'm experienced with HSPL, MAGLDR and have been flashing ROMs since my Kaiser. However, I’m new to Android and only have experience working with DL’s DesireZ on my HD2.
Account Questions:
I picked up an Inspire today for $50 on an upgrade with 2 year commitment. I’ve been off contract for better than three years, but in the process the rep at the AT&T store told me I’d lose my $15/month unlimited MEdiaNet option and they migrated me to a $15/month 200MB data plan. Though I have never yet used more than 200MB per month, I worry about what happens the one month I go over. I’ve seen reports from some users here that they were allowed/able to have their old plans grandfathered. What would you say my chances are of calling AT&T and telling them to restore my MN account and grandfather me? Who should I talk to, or am I just kidding myself?
Stock ROM Questions:
Ok, so no secrets that the AT&T stock ROM is full of crap, and have the following problems:
I can’t run Titanium Backup because the ROM isn’t rooted. I see a couple rooting options, but if you can recommend which option is best and why, that would be helpful.
Android Market shows AT&T apps, rather than 'my installed apps'. How do I fix that?
If I’m able to root and use my (licensed) copy of TiBu, can’t that remove some of the ROM stuff by using the ‘Chuck Norris’ mode? If so, is it possible to incorporate an application in the ROM in its place as long as it fits?
Is there a ROM out there that replicates (identically) the stock ROM but removes the branding and market app issues?
Flashing Questions:
I’m no stranger to HSPL and MAGLDR, having installed it on my HD2. But if I can’t find a ROM that works for me and decide to return the phone, how can I restore the handset to the factory state so I don’t get a raft of $hit from them or void my warranty if I need to send it in for service? In other words, for WM, all I need to do is to reflash a factory ROM from SD. Is there a similar deal here?

Well first of all welcome to the Inspire.
Well first of all I have rooted 4 inspires with the inspire hack kit. I think it is the best method. If you root there are many att stock rooted roms with all the bloat removed. There are also gingerbread sense roms ready to go. ATT wont even release these roms for another year. If you want your apps att dont list just put you phone in airplane mod and turn on wifi to get them. I use right at 2gb per month. If you are always on wifi you should be ok. I would start on the 2gb plan then downgrade if needed. I used 200mb in 4 days.
If you have other questions just send me a pm.
And on another note, I was on a $30/month MediaNET/unlimited messaging plan that was lost when they did the upgrade. I called and did a little *****ing and they opened a case with the department that has the ability to put it back on (which I think is BS, as others have said managers have put it back on the spot for them). But anyway, about 8 days later I got a text saying my case had been resolved. They put me on a $30 unlimited plan, and $20 unlimited text plan. So it's a little more pricey, but that wasn't what I was worried about, I wanted my unlimited data back.
I've had unlimited since way back in 2008, during my iPhone days. I didn't have to call and ***** and moan about it until they gave it back, they actually gave me the regular unlimited data that works with the inspire when I switched from iPhone to inspire. Will come in mighty handy due to my modded apn for hotspot capabilities. Anyway, the only way you could get unlimited data now is if you called in and asked. It would be $30/mth, no txts included. Hope I helped in a small way at least!
Welcome to the inspire forums!

Personally, through all the threads and videos on the web it seems to be a consensus that the hack kit is the most complete step by step process that yields consistent results. I researched with the youtube videos and even tried to use the GUI, but it failed to push the img to my phone, so I ended up using the hack kit anyway.
Link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=952352
I'm not sure which gold-card method the hack kit currently uses, but it is most likely a good idea just to replace those first steps with the Gold Card Maker that nelify came up with.
Link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=970157
Aside from that, just follow the hack kit's steps to a standard s-off rooted stock ROM. From there, I recommend flashing any ROM that uses the inspire as a base (ClearDroid or TPC come to mind first, though I haven't used them).

You could get another version of the market app perhaps... but generally this is something that would change using almost any other ROM.

Yes, but depending on what you want to remove you may want to be careful.

Thanks for the feedback. I was able to successfully create a gold card and unlocked and flashed REMix 5.3, and am very happy with it.
I would like to understand a bit more about how to remove some of the built-in apps and replace them with another of my liking. Is there a guide for how to do that?

How funny

I just received a text from AT&T telling me to upgrade my phone to Froyo, Whats crazy that almost everyone that has been on this forum has been on a custom Froyo Rom or GB for the last 6 months. , I think that they need to get to know there customers better
I got it to and I am running stock Froyo.
they always sent that out before and after an update. Not sure exactly what it looks at but if you don't have stock rom on the phone it sends that
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
i never got a text like that.
I wrote them back and told them they needed to upgrade to Honeycomb.
No longer sent from my BlackBerry.
FYI, I just tried software update from phone. Got an "unable to connect to update server"error. Last time that happened right before an update.
Or am I wishful thinking....

Too bad I'm not running my phone on AT&T, I feel left out haha.
I feel deprived, I never got a text either.... Thank God for custom ROMs!!!!

CM7.1 issues

On a spare Showcase that I've got, kind of a test mule instead of bricking my daily use phone, I flashed CM7.1. It flashed fine, everything seemed to work just fine w/ the google roms. However, after playing w/ it and letting the battery die, now the damn thing won't save ANY passwords. Like for instance, on an ebay app, fb app, twitter app... the app opens at the log in page, I attempt to log in, and it gives me and error message. When I attempt to go to the android market, I get an error message. When I pull up the browser, home page is set to google, the home page pulls up fine. However, if I try to go to another website, I get an error message, but I can go right to google w/o issues. Since this phone isn't on Cspires network, all of this is done over wifi, but I'm showing a decent wifi signal. Any ideas?? I really like CM7.1, it's so much faster than 2.3.5, but if all else fails, I'm gonna have to odin back to 2.3.5, which I don't wanna do.
The CM 7.1 is quite problematic on the Showcase... Right now I don't have mobile data thanks to CM7
yeah, I'm not impressed at all. I definitely like the features that CM offers, but I guess w/ this phone being a regional phone, it kinda hinders development. I can't wait to switch to ATT.
At&t really. They are way overpriced. Just promise not to get an iphone

Holy crap you have no idea how I hope it comes to Alaska. It may determine if I stay with my carrier or not.

New LG Rom

I'm on CM9, so in order to get the new Baseband is this what you do?
1. I have CWM recovery.. (Do I flash stock recovery first using oneclickflash? Or do I just use LG tools?)
2. Install any rom you want.
Nandroid, Change recovery back to stock. Use the LG tool to install the new LG stuff. Change back to CWM, restore nandroid. Done. At least as I understand it. I am waiting for feedback on the new baseband before I install it.
First flash the zip file that kews posted today here ( to make sure lg updater tool doesn't bailout on update, you can directly use lg updater tool but I didn't try it)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1602798
.. and use lg updater tool to do a full restore back to stock. you will loose your root, cwm everything.
I have a new laptop so I was in the process of installing drivers, etc. I had the LG tool up and before I reverted recovery and all that, it found the phone and told me I had an update. So i made a nandroid backup, and a Titanium backup. Without reverting I "clicked" the update. It installed all the new goods. When finished, it had stock recovery and was not rooted. But it did have the new baseband and all the bloat. Very painless. I did a oneclick root and installed CWM recovery and I'm back in action. Didn't take all that long.
I plan on running the new stock for a while to see. I was running TSUGI previously.
GPS seems to lock very quickly, seconds. Previously it would take minutes.

I'll be looking forward to reading your experiences. I'm currently running Tsugi and, except for the long TTFF with the GPS, have been very happy with it. If the GPS continues to lock quickly for you (I've gotten locks in a few seconds, but not very often -- usually it's 2-3 minutes) and there aren't serious gotchas, I'll definitely consider switching.
If you read other thread, if you update to newest baseband and instal custom rom, you will be unable to make or receive calls

I was the one who posted the original lge-ril.rar file for v21y (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1601918&page=4), and calling does not work with anything other than what it was designed for.
I've switched back to trying the stock 2.3.4 and it's been amazing.

Yeah, honestly, if I knew what I know now about baseband and calling issues, I wouldn't have updated.
To those who are contemplating on updating - don't update if you want to keep using ICS roms and have a phone that actually calls/receive calls.
Why does LG waste money, time, effort, etc., on updating GB for the G2X when it should be using those resources on ICS for the G2X. If they had, we would have ICS now. Maybe LG did it because it won't be providing ICS for the G2X and thinks that a GB and baseband update is good enough to placate us about updates. If that's what they actually think and did, they're incredibly stupid.

It's T-Mobile's phone. They decide what gets updated and what doesn't. If this was a maintenance release then they pay less for it. A major upgrade to ICS would cost T-Mobile millions of dollars in payments to LG for the update. Since the phone is EOL'd major bug and/or maintenance updates are all you are going to get if you are lucky. Don't expect TMO to pay for ICS, so the G2X, in my best guess, will never get official ICS from LG. If I am wrong then consider yourself very lucky if you get official ICS with properly written drivers.

Correct. I just got off the phone with lg and T-Mobile. First I spoke to lg. They claim they know nothing of a update v21y or any update for g2x and they will have someone call me when they find more info about the updater tool and its updates.
Then I called T-Mobile and made them feel dumb for a while. Finally they said lg is working on a software update. They wouldn't answer what specifically. They even offered to send me a new g2x...Even after they told me they dropped g2x because of all the known issues. I said "isn't that like going to a tire shop to buy flat tires?". They then went on to talk to me about lemon cars in which I replied there are laws that state we are protected from manufacturers over those said "lemons" and people get sued over them.
So I called lg back. Then they say their is an update in the works but wouldn't give anymore information and still deny v21y.
Calling them some more now lol..

Why should T-Mobile have to pay for LG's frigging bad coding to begin with??
LG were the ones who released this damn phone with all the glitches, and now T-Mobile is expected to pay for it? I'm not even in the United States and that sounds absolutely stupid. If LG wants to lose customers by not providing updates because of a small payment from T-Mobile, then they seriously need to crank there heads around because they're on backwards.

Oh I had no idea the mobile carriers tested and permitted phones to be sold with horrible problems.
It's still horrible business practices for both companies involved then.
