I like to use android memos to jot misc info at times I want to reference., eg names, addys, songs, dates, etc. Upon Rom updates the memos info gets wiped. Using restore Aps and data via TB, memos returns empty. Should I be backing up daily via TB, or via which Google apps/other
would users recommend creating/preserving such info? Would like to access via homescreen app/widg/shortcut. Suggestions?

I am noticing that my text messaging has a bit of a lag when first going into the app, have been for a while. I'm assuming this is because I don't delete any of them, and I probably send/receive 75-125 a day. I know I can delete them all, but what Iwas looking for was a way to either archive them, or if that's not possible, to delete everything past a certain date. Is this possible?
Also, I would rather be able to have different ringtones for "unknown", "blocked/restricted", and just numbers that aren't in my contacts as opposed to just one ringtone for them all. Is there a solution to that, or was I just spoiled with my Treos?
Other than that, I love this phone. TIA
regarding the text lag, if you're talking about going into a text message from your favorites or something similar, I had the same issue, I hadn't deleted any text messages sense I got my XV6800 (1 year ago) and I transfered all the messages via PIM Backup to my TP2. I deleted all my messages and the lag was gone. I'd suggest backing up all your messages before trying this though, just in case that your 1000's messages isn't the issue.
I'll give that a try, thanks. I'm using the HTC backup app, and the "PIM only" backup function has inbox, contacts, etc., but no specific text message backup. I don't mind doing a complete backup, but will I be able to restore just the texts from the backup?

If you don't mind having your info stored on the internet, you can sign up for a myphone account from Microsoft. Its a cab file you install on your phone to upload your PIM info including pics, vids, docs, and text messages. You can set it at increments or sync it manually. It saves it on a account online that you create which gives you up to 200 megs of online space for free. The good thing is that anything you delete, it puts it in an archive section of your account just in case you want to recover something you deleted since your last sync. You can get it here, and its free. The only catch is that you have to have an unlimited data plan or use Wifi. I don't know if you can use your PC's internet connection via activesync/Windows Mobile Device Center but you can give it a shot if you don't have an unlimited data plan. (And No I do not work for Microsoft...lol)
I'm noob and have TB Pro.
I'm starting this topic in hopes that people will submit their methods of use for employing this Powerful and Invaluable App..
I mainly use it to backup/reinstall apps and data. And remove bloat. It does so much more than that!
I think that MY restoring of certain data/system data from one ROM to another ROM has sometimes caused me problems.
I am trying to develop my own protocol for using TB Pro. I have gained much knowledge through trial, error and research but could really use the knowledge, experience and help of you people.
So how do YOU use TB PRO? What system data do you ALWAYS restore? What system data do you NEVER restore? Ect..
Thank you for your time, efforts energy and input.
I've found that generally the "Green" system settings can be restored, although sometimes if your ROM or Device is too different from the previous it won't work. For example from my Vibrant to the 4G it seemed the SMS storage is changed a bit and I had to manually pull the smsmms.db and transfer it.
My current system data I restore is generally:
Calendar
Bluetooth Pairings
SMS/MMS/APN Dialer Storage (this has the SMS)
Bookmarks
Wifi Access Points
User Dictionary
Calendar
Playlists
Wallpaper
Settings/bluetooth storage
Another thing I've found useful is the use of labels in TB. I have a "system" label for the above items, and "Apps with Data" which I put apps that have specific settings and such I don't feel like setting up after each flash. Handcent, Launchers, apps you have to 'sign in' to, alarms, etc.
Then I have multiple "restore" labels, I don't really like restoring everything at once usually, so I'll put my first 30 or so primary apps in a label, then the next 20-30, and restore them in batches. Usually my 1st restore point is the stuff I use daily, and the others are stuff I don't use as much. Sometimes I only restore the first one and reinstall individual apps as I need them.
I also have a dropbox label which I use to sync 'important' stuff to drop box.
These labels also help with the TB Schedules, I backup the "system" label more frequently then the others, etc.
If you do use labels, make sure you have "auto backup TB Data" option so your labels will restore when you wipe and reflash.

This is a AWESOME reply! Exactly the kind of response I was hoping for.
It is informative, detailed, technical & the screen shot really helps put things into perspective for me.
Without getting into my TB details. I have done a cpl backups that you do and will now incorporate the ones you have given. I have never assigned any labels or schedules. I will start doing those things now.
The reason I posted this topic is because I'm noob. I have learned to flash properly and recover if I get into trouble.
Recently I have realized that the problems I have been having sometimes after flashing are a result of the things I DID after flashing and not that of the ROM, Mod, or Tweak that people work hard to develop and put together.
I want to minimize MY unnecessary (unwittingly) posts and in doing so the replies I get from the very helpful people in our Great Community.
If I can backup and restore my data properly after flashing then I will less likely believe I "found a bug" and will not have to seek help. That will benefit me by having my phone function at it's best and help the Community by keeping our threads shorter.
THANK YOU for your response

In my case I do exactly the same as above but also have a TWRP backup of my entire ROM with all my preferred apps installed (and TiBu included) to quickly reflash the phone with this TWRP backup in case I break something (e.g., I tweak something I shouldn't have in the kernel). The TiBu backups I mainly use to restore an earlier app version if a new release of that app breaks functionality I've come to depend on (it happens often!) The unique issue I run into is that if I update my TiBu labels, they won't carry through after the ROM flash unless I backup the entire ROM all over again. I sure wish I could backup the TiBu labels and restore them. I hear Delta Backup can backup TiBu and its labels. I'll give it a shot next time but if anyone has any better ideas I'm all ears.
Is there a way to sync data between my Xoom and Evo 3D, preferably wirelessly? I'd like to be able to sync pictures and videos or other files.
This is a good question. I have a Desire and we should seek a solution that would work between different kind of android devices and also perhaps between more than two devices.
So far I'm using two apps to do this, but not an ideal solution yet. The data sync is more kind of a workaround.
Syncing pictures/video/folders
-Titanium Media Sync [https://market.android.com/details?id=com.keramidas.MediaSync] to sync folders between device and either dropbox or ftp. This works quite well, but I still need to do it kind of manually it feels. Not 2-way. I need to manually sync folders from my ftp(originating from desire) to my Xoom when i see it necessary to update. But it automatically uploads folders of my choosing to ftp/dropbox. The app is still being actively developed, and it keeps getting better. I like all the options for choosing/filtering files to be synced, but it may look difficult at first. There are options to sync immediately when you say take a picture or wait until the device is on a charer/wifi.
Syncing app data
-Titanium Backup [https://market.android.com/details?id=com.keramidas.TitaniumBackup] to sync app data for spesific apps/games back and forth. I do this for the games I currently play when i want to pick up from the progress I had on either phone or tablet. Make a new backup of game. Long hold on game in backups-list. Choose "send backup" and send to mail or dropbox folder. Download on other device into titanium backup folder. Go into Titatnium backup on that device and find the new backup you just copied in there and restore it.
The best thing would be to just sync the entire titanium backups to Dropbox and the do the same on the other device and it woul sync, but I do not dare to test if that would work... anybody do that?
There are also other similar apps that do these kind of syncing, I just happened to allready be using titanium backup. Also, there are apps that spesifically sync the data (game progress) of popular games like angry birds.

i will try media Sync. I want to find something I can sync data on my Mac too it possible
If you sync to dropbox with titanium media sync it would be updated on your mac (in your dropbox folder). But remember - it's a one-way sync so files wouldn't sync back the other way. Not everyone needs it to though... And I don't know if that's even possible. You could anyway access stuff through the dropbox app of course..
Btw. I just remembered the two other big alternatives:
Dropsnap
https://market.android.com/details?id=me.ctso.dropsnap
Sugarsync
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.sharpcast.sugarsync
I haven't tried them myself but one of them would probably also do a great job for what you wanted. Dropsnap seems a bit simpler in function than t. media sync and sugarsync seems to rely on having their software on your computer. I allready had dropbox so I didn't want one more sync/cloud service

Another option:

Just found another (possibly better) option:

With this, you might be able to just select the app, not the files to sync.. easier...
Hi,
If installing a new rom wipes all data, when will we have a backup apps like the titanium Backup for Android????
Windows sinc is cool to restore the contacts but doesn't restore emails and apps
Emails should generally be left on the server (by default the phone only caches them for a few weeks anyhow) but yes, the app data is an issue. There's supposedly a good backup app coming, but I've yet to see it in any way other than a teaser screenshot so I can't tell you how close it is to readiness. There are other backup options, but (while I've never used Titanium Backup and therefore can't compare it) none of the currently-published ones are *really* easy.

where did you see the screenshot???
having done this exercise recently let me tell you of my experience:
1. i had a a backup in zune, incase i wanted to return
2. switched to Tango based rom, used SMSbackup to restore. Though it restored the text messages it kinda screws up the contact list and e-mail accounts. Currently, not stable and fixed. Known issue.
3. Zune backup restore didn't happen, got 801812E0 error and got screwed
4. Though you will lose your saved games, achievements will be there. You can look into using WP7 root data and use it to backup data. I had backed whatsapp messages through this method.
Moved To WP7 Q&A
Please do not post questions in the development section

Is SMSBackup a built-in app for the computer, the phone or does it have to be downloaded from the Marketplace? I really want to be able to backup my SMS messages.
Yeah, I just installed a custom rom and I was under the impression that Zune does a backup and when you re-connect, it will restore at least some things. hahaha. No way. Then I found out that the restore will only restore your phone after it does a software update through Zune. I am used to WebOS, which was great in restoring almost everything over the air.
Hope we get a good backup soon.
But, does anyone know if there is a place on the local computer that would have at least the Internet shortcuts from WP? I looked under some of the Zune folders but didn't see anything.
I'm currently running Android 6.0 DP3 on my Nexus 5 and have to perform a clean flash due to battery drain issues. However, this will make me go through the whole backup and re-setup process again - backup images, backup Whatsapp, backup all documents and download, flash the phone, restore everything, log into the different apps, set up Gmail accounts etc. Obviously, I'm not looking forward to that it's basically also the reason which has kept me from trying different ROMs on my phone in the past. I know that there is Titanium Backup just for that job, but it needs root access and I can't root my phone because this will trigger the "phone isn't secure"-alarm of my bank's super cautious TAN app which will stop it from working (just like using Tasker does, which obviously sucks).
So I am looking for a way to backup my phone's data, apps and app data without having to root the phone. Is there any possibility for that?
easy way just plug it in usb to u pc copy all u stuff to drive on u pc and long u have u gmail loged in u contacts ect sync u should not lose anything fresh install set u new settings copy u images music ect back through usb and done and cleaned same time
Yeah, that works, of course - but won't save me the hassle-full process of restoring the latest Whatsapp backup, manually copying all files, logging into my apps and downloading 20 GB of Play Music All Access offline music.
