Setting questions - Touch Pro2 CDMA

I am noticing that my text messaging has a bit of a lag when first going into the app, have been for a while. I'm assuming this is because I don't delete any of them, and I probably send/receive 75-125 a day. I know I can delete them all, but what Iwas looking for was a way to either archive them, or if that's not possible, to delete everything past a certain date. Is this possible?
Also, I would rather be able to have different ringtones for "unknown", "blocked/restricted", and just numbers that aren't in my contacts as opposed to just one ringtone for them all. Is there a solution to that, or was I just spoiled with my Treos?
Other than that, I love this phone. TIA

regarding the text lag, if you're talking about going into a text message from your favorites or something similar, I had the same issue, I hadn't deleted any text messages sense I got my XV6800 (1 year ago) and I transfered all the messages via PIM Backup to my TP2. I deleted all my messages and the lag was gone. I'd suggest backing up all your messages before trying this though, just in case that your 1000's messages isn't the issue.

I'll give that a try, thanks. I'm using the HTC backup app, and the "PIM only" backup function has inbox, contacts, etc., but no specific text message backup. I don't mind doing a complete backup, but will I be able to restore just the texts from the backup?

If you don't mind having your info stored on the internet, you can sign up for a myphone account from Microsoft. Its a cab file you install on your phone to upload your PIM info including pics, vids, docs, and text messages. You can set it at increments or sync it manually. It saves it on a account online that you create which gives you up to 200 megs of online space for free. The good thing is that anything you delete, it puts it in an archive section of your account just in case you want to recover something you deleted since your last sync. You can get it here, and its free. The only catch is that you have to have an unlimited data plan or use Wifi. I don't know if you can use your PC's internet connection via activesync/Windows Mobile Device Center but you can give it a shot if you don't have an unlimited data plan. (And No I do not work for Microsoft...lol)

Best free PIM back up for contacts!!!!!!

This is a great little app for all winmo devices, its called XML Backup, best of all, its free. If you, like a lot of other people here at XDA, like trying new ROMs and apps that cause you to hard reset, then this app is for you!
Install the cab. find it in your programs list, start the app and then it will ask you if you want to back up or restore. For first time users, back-up your contacts list to your memory card (as so it won't get erased), you must press destination folder! Create a folder called "Phone Back-up" or what ever you want to call it, go back to your XML Back-up app, back-up your contacts to the newly created folder, press select all, then start! You're done! Now you can re-flash to your hearts content and never have to worry about losing all contacts again!
Even better PPC PIM Backup, this does all your messages as well as contacts.
Personally, I don't see a need for saving messages. If anything, being able to save 300+ contacts is enough for me! But, PPC Back-up PIM is a really good app aswell, my preference lies in XML Contacts
For me its the ability to retain SMS conversations over a ROM flash that means i have gone the way i have. My contacts are saved on-line anyway as I have a mail2web acount that does OTA sync of all the PIM data.
Just remembered PIM Backup also does your calendar, which again i don't need, see above, but others might.
I'm not going to dispute the fact that there are but apps for PIM back-up! I have tried some of them, but, XML is simple and easy! 'm sure as you know, the more stuff you keep on your phone, the more memory it uses and seeing as how I enjoy having as much free memory as possible, just keeping my contacts backed-up is fine!
For the newb's and the faint of heart, XML is a lot easier to work with and my personal choice for PIM back-up!

try vufone.com - syncs contacts, calendar, messages, pictures, videos and music to the web.
Rafi
Dashwire does the same thing, but, it can also send text msgs from your pc/laptop for free! I tried it out for a bit, decent app, but, stays active in the backround, therefore, killing your battery!

@g2crx: Yes i know, but i want go restore the messages back to the phone and so i need the place where they are saved
@gadiator - check this thread out:

There is a post with the code someone added just TODAY!
Save sms, mms, contacts
Just use my backup pro. It saves all texts, call history, bookmarks, contacts, picture messaging to your sd card and allows one to restore them. I always use it when i update or do a factory reset. There is a free version and a paid version but it is well worth the $2.99.
@shaneaus Big thanks, this is, what i need

[REQ]Faster backup/restore than PIM Manager

Been addictively flashing the rom on my HD2 since about 30 minutes after I opened the box it came in (Damn you NRG for almost daily ROM Updates ). Using a combination of XDA_UC and PIM Manager to backup and restore all my programs, contacts and messages.
I have the setup down to a fine art now, and it takes no time at all to set up my phone with ONE exception::: I have close to 6000 SMSes which I backup and restore using PIM Manager..... The backup takes about one minute, but the restore process takes almost 15 minutes every time.
My question is this:: Does anyone know of any App that can restore that amount of SMSes in a shorter time frame?
BTW, I have tried both the compressed and uncompressed message backup and it makes little to no difference in the time taken for a restore.
I have no need to back up anything other than Contacts and SMSes as I have XDA_UC set up to redo my mail and wifi accounts and a few other things.
TIA guys
For contacts and sms I always use Myphone, I avoided it for a while but it is actually really good and fast! also it gives you the option to Archive some of the txts
For everything else I use SPB backup, brilliant and worth the Money, it prolly the best app i ever bought!!
hmmm... stopped using MyPhone as it had a tendency to cause duplicate contacts in my contact list. Was annoying as hell.... may give it another bash though. Does SPB Backup save login details for things like facebook?

i was about to ask the same thing..can we use Spb Backup for things like wifi settings and email acc's and Twitter etc??
hmm, doesnt really matter if it doesnt. I have my wifi and email settings restored automatically using XDA_UC. Im sure there is the ability to do Facebook login details too, though that may get slightly more complex as there are 4 ways to login to facebook, all requiring the details to be inpput separately:::
The Facebook Tab
The Standalone Facebook App
FIM (Facebook Instant Messaging)
Web Browser (and if you use multiple web browsers, they all need their own login details input)
Gonna have a look and see what I can find.

Im not even going to ask why you need 6000 Text messages on your phone or go on about the drag that would put on your messaging app lol
Considering the amount of messages you are restoring I dont think you are going to find anything faster than what you are using now. Compressed or uncompressed it will still take an age to copy all those messages back to your device.
Sort through your messages and delete the ones you dont need, or be prepared to wait while restoring them.
Mark.
Yeah, I know its a LOT of messages, but 90% are work related, and I need quick access to them during work hours.

Mmmm...Ive never used SPB to back-up contacts as i have always used either outlook/active sync or more recently Myphone, I am now using a combination of the two, being Myphone for contacts and texts and outlook for calendar and docs etc, just be careful which boxes are ticked to avoid duplicates!
SPB has a wealth of customization available for backup.
In the Sytem files you can basically choose whatever files you want or don't, so as long as you know where the relevant twitter/facebook info is stored its fine, as for the registry RE. email accounts etc it will backup the full registry but no options as to what, just all of it which can cause problems if restored to a new ROM, but great if ever you need to Hard reset!!
Bottom line is given it a try, SPB has a Full trial which lasts 5 or six uses
and as long as you have a PIM copy it cant hurt, I always try new stuff like this straight after a fresh flash then at least if it doesn't work out its not to much heart ache to reflash or HR.
Hope this helps

[Q] WhatsApp backup? (Activation SMS each time I reflash)

Hi. I just arrived to HD2 world, and I can't find any info about some way to backup WhatsApp. I say WhatsApp not because of its data (conversations), but for the activation SMS, that means every time I reflash I have to reactivate paying for a SMS
In Android I had Titanium Backup so I just restored. I hope there is some way here in WP7, or a Registry key to save the code and restore or something.
Thank you very much, waiting for some light here.

I was thinking more of a specific thing, not all in a pack, but I don't really care. Thank you very much! I'll try. Hope it works.
LOL I just installed WhatsApp after reflashing, updating, reset and reactivation, and it didn't make the SMS step. Just from input cell number to chats.
Sorry. I guess I was way too farsighted!
Sorry to bump this thread, but where does whatsApp actually store the messages? It doesnt seem to use Isolated storage so there is no way there is just a data file that we can download..
anyone else have any idea's?
trying WMDC/ActiveSync launcher as I post this
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=23064872#post23064872
EDIT:
WMDC/ActiveSync launcher allows me to go to the app directory
Microsoft Windows Phone\\\Applications\Data\218A0EBB-1585-4C7E-A9EC-054CF4569A79\Data\IsolatedStore
where 218A0EBB-1585-4C7E-A9EC-054CF4569A79 is the application ID (might not be the same for everyone but I assue it is just to make this easy
There is a file in Isolated Storage called messages.sdf. In my case its about 640k in size but I guess that varies with the amount of messages stored on the phone.
I havent tried my device and copying the files back, but at least I can store them on my PC
Opening the file with Notepad shows messages and they are unprotected/not encryped. There is a lot of wierd caracters inbetween the messages, but it also shows whatsapp IDs from the recipients.
As soon as I reflash my rom (if new HD2 rom comes out soon) I will see if I can restore the messages.
So if you have acces to the Isolated storage dirs, you are able to copy the messages to your PC.
Note that WMDC/ActiveSync launcher requires a fully unlocked device.

[Q] I need an Android SMS backup solution that will append to previous backups

Can't get any more straightforward than that.
I have a Galaxy S3. I've been using SMS Backup+, which is fine if you like getting your texts backed up into multiple Gmail threads that max out at 100 texts.
What I need is something that I can transfer to my computer, delete the texts off my phone, and then say, a month later when I make another transfer, it will append to the backup that I already have.
If anyone knows any app/program like this, even if you have to pay for it, let me know.
Use File Expert download it at the play store
Its very good i use it to back up my apps
I think you can bckup Sms too
Sent from my GT-P6200 using XDA Premium HD app

There is one good app in the market "My Backup Pro". It does take the complete backup of of phone (Application, music, contacts, SMS etc) which can be restored easily. But the only problem I guess is it will not append to the existing messages and instead wipe it and restore only the backup. Let me check if it can append.
why not try AST android sms transfer, This Android SMS Transfer APK helps you achieve a simple but effective management of your SMS
