i may be getting an epic tomorrow but im debating it atm. i don't see alot of roms for this device, not even stock android ones. the biggest drawback for me is no apps2sd. i cannot live without it. as far as roms go i can develop some for us, ive made several hero roms before. but is there any development on apps2sd or do we have to wait for the froyo update?

Is apps2sd really a big deal for u? The epic has more internal mem than the hero so u won't run. Out as quick. I switched from hero with cm6 and I had to use apps2sd on hero, but I haven't been able to use all of the epics internal mem. Idk how many apps u got so if u got even enuff to use up the epic mem then I understand ur concern, but I really doubt anyone needs that much.

Dont, get an Evo. More devs, more ROMs, more customizing.

Thats true but the overall experience is better on Epic. If Epic 2.1 stock feels faster then EVO 2.2 stock then you have to wonder how fast this sucker is going to be in 2.2. Plus everybody is just waiting for 2.2 since whats the point putting some much effort of a software version thats hardly going to be used when 2.2 comes out. Is there still 2.1 development for Android phones that received 2.2, i seriously doubt it.

Epic screen is sooooo much better than evo and it really is way faster. Plus. I think a lot of development is overrated...all I'm looking for is that one good rom to stick with..I get tired of switching all the time. Just my opinion.

Yeah bro you need froyo..but just be patient the word is froyo for epic sometime in nov. I'm coming from an evo and yes I'm dissapointed about the dev community or lack there of for the epic but even with that and the epic running 2.1 I'm still glad I switched from the evo..so pick it up its a great phone

Lol, I dont think so. Even if it ceases, there plenty to go around.
There is no incentive to develop for the Epic 4g at this point. The instant the phone was released it was made public knowledge that 2.2 was coming to it, and the closer that date comes the less people want to invest in tweaking 2.1.
App2sd is a cool feature and all, but I don't see a need at this point. I have a ridiculous number of apps installed and I still have a hundred MB free on the internal storage. I use maybe about 40% of the apps I have installed regularly and about 30% of what I have installed I never use. Maybe when Android starts getting better games ported over from iOS or developed natively on the platform, the need will arise.
And get whatever phone you want frankly. The epic is better than the Evo, and I am not saying that because I own one. If you are willing to make roms and help develop, I am not too sure why you are concerned about the lack of development on the phone. Isn't that something that regular users should be worried about?
I honestly wouldn't recommend the EVO to anyone... it was the worst phone I've ever used.

+1 same thing happened with me. I was with the evo for a week it just felt like a bigger hero honestly... epic is amazing.. go for epic you won't be disappointed.. you always have that 30 day return guarantee..

There is really no point for Apps2sd at all. What are you saving all that internal mem for? And just because there are more roms out doesnt mean thats a good thing. Coming from a G1 I hated that there were so many damn roms to choose from, and they all had the same basic ish cept maybe a few of them were themed up differently.
The Evo is basically turning into a iPhone IMO, and im sick of the users swearing up and down that THAT phone is basically the best in the biz...FALSE. The epic suits me more for what I need which is basically gaming, movies, and partial business. All the Evo has to go on is .3" of screen and a processor that not nearly as powerful as the epics and for that matter SENSE UI IS ****ING UGLY *shudders*
/rant
LMAO, I just love our small community. We dont need 50 differrent roms and become a clusterfuck like the other sub forums. We need to support each other
:EDIT:
Why does everyone want a stock android rom, I thought the point of these different phones was to be different

I wouldn't go that far. The Evo has a few advantages over the Epic and the epic has a few advantages over the evo. For one, the evo has a larger screen, and even though its only .3 inches, its VERY noticeable. Also, somehow even though they have a larger screen, the screen uses less battery than our epic's. Also, they have a kickstand which is pretty damn sweet.
I chose the Epic because of the Super AMOLED, which I THOUGHT was super battery efficient and also a brilliant display (1/2 aint bad), the amazing processor and the dedicated GPU. HTC makes amazing phones, and the EVO's build quality is higher than the Epic's, but they ALWAYS shortchange their phones by ignoring the graphics department. Every smartphone I have purchased has been an HTC device, and on EVERY SINGLE one they have had no hardware accelerated graphics, which has always become an issue.

Had an evo for nearly 90 days. Had froyo. Had every cm6 nightly. Had cm6 rc1.
Miss cm6. Miss froyo. But am loving the epic so much more than the evo.
Better battery life, better screen, physical keyboard, better stability.

I look forward to the day that you are forced to eat those words.
Ok so I just got the MT4G yesterday and before I flash it to custom rom I just wanted to know which is the most popular rom used by folks here, so vote and comment on it as pro/con would be helpful.
This is going to be hard to keep up as the ROMS are changing all of the time and you are missing 2 out of my 3 ROMS. I'm using the Evil Desire HD one one, cm7alpha on another, CM7 Nexus from Jaywan on another.

What is the difference between Evils desire hd port, and gorrilas? i use evils as of now
I use Iced Glacier, but I haven't actually tried any others. It is my first root/flash, and I just went with something that was not too drastic of a change and yet still pretty well received.
Well Bob I am aware of the CyanogenMod but only reason I didn't post it as CM7 is still under alpha. I need stable rom I am not going back to flashing rom every week lol hell I had rom every day for a month once was a pure flash addict
Then again HD2 does that to you as I am already missing the superior hackability of WinMo. Now alot of fanboy can cry all day about Android but fact is WinMo has better control once you know what you are doing and have basic knowledge.
Initially I did want CM based rom but I can't be using 6.x based ill wait for CM7 stable release before I go with it but till than I might go Evil 4G or Iced Glacier.

I agree I remember you from the HD2 section. I built many of roms for WM but now I'm almost Android noob stupid. Or it feels that way. The evil HD ROM is good my wife runs it and it is very stable. The others I'm playing with for fun.
Well so far after 24hour usage of the phone it does seem okay but I already miss the big display of HD2 hell when I go to setup widgets tells me don't have enough real state space on the screen :O But the phone is super stable.
I am very satisfied so far with the color scheme also I guess 16M vs 65k does that lol. Also the boot time is like 5sec which is crazy but I do suspect its false as its not full cold boot I am guessing as it could be some type of hibernation thus never fully shut the phone down. So when user starts it all it does is fast boot and recover it from NAND.
Still have 13 days maybe I will return it who knows I mean I am checking the CES 2k11 phones and dual core would be nice. I just hope they get with 4.3" screens IDK wtf HTC make dumb decisions. No DHD GSM based and the only phone that does have near same spec is MT4G but with small screen.
Hi
So far my three android phone that I owned were G1, G2, and G2x from Tmobile. They all had vanilla android which I love. Since G2X kept freezing and losing signal I returned it and I am going to buy Sensation next month.
I am a bit worried about going to Sense and I was wondering - in general, what are the chances of getting a vanilla android ROM available for a Sense phone ? I know it would take some time but is that something that was made available for other Sense phones in the past?
thanks

Once the bootloaders is unlock, and we have the device S-OFF, just about anything will be possible! Until then, it's a long road ahead.
sweet, thanks for the replies. I knew it would take a while but as long as someone will work on it I am ok waiting
I'm an avid cyanogen fan, from my nexus. I now currently own an incredible s and I am surprisingly pleased with sense, I think you will too. Tho admittedly I did eventually swap back to launcher pro for the feel and customizability
Still hanging for release and bootloader unlock of sensation tho

I had a G2X also, what a piece of junk and am planning on the Sensation.
Until they have roms just use ADW or Launcher Pro, I had a Samsung with touch wiz a couple of years ago and used one of the launcher mentioned earlier to get rid of the touch wiz ui.
Thanks to the devs that have supported ROMS so have something to flash ( i dont have much money to give so i made sure and thanked every dev i know as my appreciation) But coming from HTC incredible the selection is few. Everyweek it seemed like there was a ROM coming out on that side of the forums. Over here not so much. Maybe Once a month. Wish we could see new features like GS II, just like the incredible got to taste the all the updated senses roms...sorry for my RANT I just want TOUCH WIZ 4.0 i mean i bought my phone like 3 mothns ago and its outdated...
Can't believe I paid 300 for this junk lol

Many more users and developers with the Incredible. There does however seem to be a slight decline in development altogether in my perception due to the widening variety of Android phones. As the user base gets spread out, so does the development. Be nice if there was one phone from each manufacture every 6 months or longer so a phone could be their flagship for more than a month or two.
i just want CM7.. Humble 4.22 is holding me over for now.. Thanks Danalo.
Cm7 or MIUI would be nice to have but im not holding my breath on seeing pure AOSP on this phone.
So this may be a silly question in a Nexus S forum, but would you guys recommend this device? I have an evo 3d and I just can't take the lack of development on it. I don't want to use my upgrade yet, so I'm trying to buy one cheap or trade for it.
The 3D is no doubt better spec-wise (dual core, 1GB RAM) but you can't beat the development of the Nexus S.
More specifically, is there anything you are after with regard to development? Features, themes, etc? Or do you just want to release the crackflasher within?
I just purchased a NS4G today on eBay for $61. The one I got has a bad esn, but I won't be using sprint, so I don't care.
With the ice cream sandwich they pushed today, I'd definitely say its worth it. You can find them for ~130 easily
I don't have the skill to develop for myself, but I love new roms, love vanilla android, love all the customization stuff. I found a local guy on CL who has a bricked one for $20. i think it is probably a soft-brick but figured worst case I'm out $20. I don't game too much on my phone, how is battery life? Does it feel snappy with the ICS update?
Thanks for the feedback so far guys! Hopefully join your forums for reals soon!
I have had a NS4G for about 6 months and I just got my son an evo 3d. I can say that my phone is much quicker and I've used non-sense/rooted roms and phones quite a bit. Sense isn't even intuitive to me any longer. I will let him ride it as long as he can since he's never had a smart phone but it makes little sense for my use. Battery is suggestive because of so many variables but I think he charges quite a bit more than his rant or ipod touch. Totally different beasts though. My previous phone was a heroc and I stopped running sense a while back. Having all features of the phone more easily work with rooted aosp roms is a big plus. Honestly, sense makes any phone feel like wm imo. If you have the means to get the phone, I would say you wouldn't be disappointed. I should also note that I get all my phones on contract and won't go over $99 so I cannot speak to the street value of either phone or really how much bang per buck. My son's 3d is nice but it doesn't impress me more than the hundred I spent on it, stock, and I can say the same about my phone. And as far as Development, both phones have lots of devs that I'm familiar with and they all put forth some great work but the options I've seen in aosp based roms on this phone make it damn sexy and functional.
