[Q] Which radio for ATT Nexus S? - Nexus S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have an ATT Nexus S with stock radio (I902AUCKE1). I'm running CM-7.1.0-RC1-NS, with build number GRJ22.
99% of my reboots seem to correlate to radio crashes, and I end up with lots of radio dump files. I've read about non-ATT Nexus S owners updating to different versions of radio (KB3 sounds like the latest).
My question is should I be running a different radio? If so, where can I get a code-signed radio package for the ATT Nexus S?
Thanks!

bump
anyone have any experience with this? Should I just stick with stock radio?

Yeah KD3 Is Really Good. Using iit myself... go into development and scroll down til u see the radios thread.. should be 8 to 11 posts down

[Radio] 04/11/10 | Baseband 2.32.40.11.09 for Sprint CDMA Hero

Geek for Me is proud to release:
Updated Radio.img for Android 2.1 (radio version 2.32.40.11.09) for Sprint
Note: This radio is actually older than the newest one I have released however as explained below, different people get better results with different radios.
This is from Verizon's Desire. The verizon radios work better for a number of people.
This has only been tested and confirmed as working on Fresh 2.0d but will work on every Sprint 2.20.651.1 based rom
Flashing an updated radio will typically give you better battery life and better signal
Different radios work differently depending on where you are in the country. You may actually get better performance out of another radio. Test them out.
This won't fix any current problems with the 2.x roms, but it will make your phone more efficient
Don't hold me responsible if you brick your phone
Don't flash this unless you have a CDMA Hero
In case you are wondering, our stock one is 1.04.01.09.21
Check this post for how to flash it: How To: Flash a Radio Update Sprint HTC Hero

i flashed the other one today haha ...gueesss amd gonna flash this one too
thanks flipz
Dumb question, is DC 2.6 a Sprint 2.20.651.1 based ROM? I know 2.5 is, but I wasn't sure about the newest one.
Thanks for the radio Flipz!

Yea. DC 2.05 and 2.06 are the same rom.
Thanks Flipz, keep it up!
I'm running DarchLegend V5.0 and I just flashed this radio. For some reason my widgets couldn't access the internet and wouldn't refresh. The News and Weather widget just kept spinning on "loading". The internet browser worked fine though. Anyone else see this too on their non-Sprint based ROM? I had been running the newest Sprint radio that Flipz released last just fine.
GOnna give this a shot. Hell my reception sucks no matter where I am in my area. Damn Sprint lacks of towers.
So with this Radio, I get less bars but -85 where before I was getting more bars at -97...so it is btter right?
If the only way I can enter recovery is through adb (home+power send me to stock recovery) can I still install it or will it get caught in a bootloop?
How would a radio designed for a completely different phone make the Hero "more efficient"?
That has to be one of the zanier things that I've ever read.

Ok I'm confused I'm guessing this was just a typo but it says that the radio is from Verizon's Desire but they don't offer the Desire just the HTC Eris and HTC Incredible? I'm guessing you meant to put Eris not Desire but just thought I would double check.

The Eris's radio for the 2.1 leak was codenamed desire I believe.

All this is is a different radio for people who have trouble picking up good signal with their current radio. This is still going to connect you to sprint towers, it's just that it's a radio from the android 2.1 leak which was originally from the Eris. You're still connecting to sprint, just with a different radio.

Sorry for bumping this. But dies someone have this radio? I am trying to follow http://www.gsm4share.com/other-os-development/245-meid-repair-method-htc-hero-2-1-a.html this and could not find the files. I have moved on to other phones but pulled this little beauty from the closet and was trying to revive this.
Thanks for looking,

[Q] Thunderbolt GB RADIO_1.33.00.0430r

Ok so i was in hboot the other day flashing back to froyo from Das Bamf 2.0-5 and i noticed it said that my radio version was 1.33.00.0430r (before i flashed MR1)
Just wondering if that's normal considering that is not the same version listed for the GB radio.
Sorry if this is a super noob question, i was just curious because the radio version listed in the thread for the froyo radio matched the radio version listed in hboot after i flashed MR1
Anyone?? Anyone at all??? 150 views and not a single person could say whether or not this is normal?
It did not do this when I went back to Froyo on my TH from BAMF 2.0.5
I still had my GB radio....
Sent from my ADR6400L using XDA App
Your surprised that just like you 150 people don't know the answer...?
It does not seem normal. That is not a known radio number as far as I can tell from the radio thread in the dev section. I know not very helpful, but you might check all the radio images you have on your phone against the MD5 of the various ones floating around out there.
Is a 1.x radio even GB? The number scheme on all the known radios are froyo = 1.x and the single GB radio is 2.x according to the thread.
Not much help, perhaps, but at least you're not being ignored.
Mine's showing as 1.39.00.0430r on BAMF 2.0.5.
That is pretty weird man. Does it have any signification effects on your phone other than the version number?
There's three versions of the radios
A dev probably took your version and renamed it so.it doesn't throw red flags to Verizon... I don't know but its a thought
>--The Game--<
I think everybody's GB radio shows that same number...most radio's have 2 different numbers one of which is for LTE....the number you are comparing to could just be the technical build number..wouldn't worry about it.

I don't believe there are 3 different versions of the radio they are just repacked differently which gives a different md5sum depending on where you downloaded from. i could be wrong though.
Thanks
Thanks for the responses everyone. It never caused me any problems and i never knew about it until i went to go flash the froyo radio. I was just curious to see if that was a radio that others had too or if it was something strange or if it was just some random sh** i didnt need to worry about. Again thanks for the responses

Best radio for Inspire?

I just came from the HD2 so I'm new to the inspire. I've searched through all the threads to try and find if there's an overall best radio for the inspire, but there doesn't seem to be any definitive answer. Are most of the radios rom specific, or is there one that's best for all of them?
Sent from my Inspire 4G using XDA App
Radio performance varies with each individual location and phone. You really need to test that for yourself. The recommended radio for each rom is the one the developer tested for their specific rom. You may find that another radio and ril work better for your situation.
Cool thanks. The HD2 had one radio that was the best across all roms, so I was hoping the inspire was the same. Guess it's time to flash happy. Thanks again.

12.39a.60.19x_26.06.06.30_M or 12.54.60.25x_26.09.04.11_M2 seem to the main two radios that people are using on the Inspire for the most part. These are the main two radios that most roms recommend. I have used them both and they are both good. They both have ups and downs so I go back and forth some. Just make sure to flash the matching RIL with it.
So after doing some research into this more, I found that after the rooting process, alot of users HSUPA becomes broken if you dont skip the last step where it flashes the stock radio back after the downgraded one. Also, flashing any other radios than the stock one can also cause you to lose HSUPA. I verified this on my own phone after using Bubby's one click, and was getting less than .5 Mbps up and down. After reflashing the stock ROM and radio, restoring my previous ROM, and flashing the matched RIL, I now consistently get over 5 Mbps up and down. Any of you guys noticed this or know about it?

I didn't have this problem. I just used the ace hack kit and then flashed the radio and Ril I wanted. I get around 5.5 down and around 1.2 up during non-peak times.

[Q] Radio Version & 2.08 Roms

Found a ROM I'm happy with. Energy 2.08 base 3.5 Sense rom.
I'm wondering what the best radio to use in the UK would be? I updated to the 10.58 radio ages ago and wouldn't risk going back to 10.56. Noticed today I'm only getting 3 bars of signal in a strong coverage area. T-Mobile. Use to get constant 5 bars easily so I'm wondering if its just a ROM and radio mismatch?

Hi,
The best radio is the one that works.
If you used to get a better signal with 10.56,then that is the best one for you.
You have to try a few radios before you find the right one,and test it on various ROMS.
You will eventually find the best combination of ROM/radio.
I'm getting confused with RILs too. Do they get applied when flashing a custom ROM? Because I've never updated those since using the gingerbread RUU months ago. I swear this stuff was more straightforward on the old Desire.

The RIL (Radio Interface Library) can be very important, it might just be that the RIL you are using has all the right instructions in it anyway for the radio you are using, I suggest you always flash the correct RIL for the Radio you are using.

[Q] Help deciding on radio version

Hi, I was running CM7 on my Nexus S (I9020T) with Baseband version I9020XXKD1. People always tell me they have a hard time understanding me (muffled). Anyways, I just updated to CM9-RC1 and the problem has persisted. I'm guessing it has to do with the radio.
I updated it to I9030XXKI1 and it's jumping back and forth from 3G to H but both only have one bar. The speeds I'm getting are:
ping 197ms/download 1407 kbps/upload 446kbps
What radio should I be using?
Test them all, results vary by service location.
Sent from my Nexus S 4G using Tapatalk 2
All of which ones? Not sure where to find the "master list"

Thanks! Does it matter which one I choose or should I just start going down the list until I find one that gives me a solid connection?
That's all you can really do. I have used KB3, KD1, KF1, and the latest one from the ICS ota. I haven't really noticed a difference in my area between them though. Just make sure you stick to the i9020t radios!

Well, I tried all of the ones on that page and they all seem to have a low signal. Any other suggestions?
You should run each one for at least a full day. That will let you collect some significant data that will help you decide
