You T-Mobile babies stop crying
AT&T is not that bad....in fact in my hometown it's great! I get HSPA/3G speeds all day long while my wife (a T-Mobile user) can't get anything but Edge/2g on her so called Galaxy S "4G"...lol hehe.......about 45 minutes out of town she can though. Which goes to show, although T-Mobile has the fastest down/up speeds, they do not have the range of service satellites they need to cover these small, lost, and forgotten towns out here.
But with the combined power of almighty AT&T, the impossible becomes possible, thus conquering little guys like Sprint, Verizon who forcefully bully their way on to consumers with promising and emasculate devices that carry overpriced, heart ripping contracts that leave people dam near pulling the lint out of their pocket to pay bills
The only way this will be good is if they don't jake up my bill and get rid of my unlimited. I have great coverage where I live but when I go on a little trip and I mean little I lose recwptionrecwption

I predict a few things happening.
1 ) All the prices will be jacked up by at least $20 to $30 & for no good reason but to pad the paychecks of the executives.
2) Customer Service will be ****-tastic for what ever is left standing.
3) What ever phones come out under this new arrangement will be chit-locked like the iPhone & we will have to resort back to exotic tricks to get the devices rooted / unlocked.
It will happen, just wait for it... Make sure you have an unbrella for when it does.
/rant
AT&T has a problem with it's customers. Their problem is that they are being provided a service. Their solution to this problem is to take people's money and not provide any service.
/end-rant
Speculation is that AT&T will likely have to divest itself of 40 to 50 percent
of T-Mobile USA customer base and the likely winner of that will be Sprint.
So if you stay with TMO to see what the outcome is you might not
end up with AT&T, but with Sprint.

Orionshock is on the money. I like T-mobile. I do not like AT&T.
It's nothing but bigger bills & mierda for T-Mobile customers. Send an email to your congressman, for whatever it's worth.
One of my paintball buddies says he has an out of state friend that works for AT&T
and he is in Florida right now working on T-Mobile towers.
I was hoping this nightmare would go away but apparently AT&T has greased
some palms at the FCC and DOJ and are sure this is a done deal.

All of the announcements are a bit over zealous. It would take over a year IF the government even allowed the merger, since they would be a sim card monopoly in the US.. doubt it will happen if you ask me.
Not so fast. Sprint is saying Don't let it happen. http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2011-...-mobile-deal-will-harm-industry-users-1-.html
Will you switch services and what phone will you buy?
Depends on the prepaid prices and if current prices will be honored. If not, back to Virgin Mobile I will go. They're getting some good android phones, hopefully dev support picks up for them.
This depends on whether or not I can back out of my contract without paying. If I can, then I'm off to Verizon. I won't stick with AT&T if I don't have to, and I won't go back to Sprint.
Never had an at&t contract or knew anyone that did. I take it they such, huh?

What GSM carriers besides the two of them exist in North America? I mean, on a nation-wide scale. Because quite frankly, I can't think of a single one besides AT&T & T-Mobile.
If they're the only two nation-wide ones, and AT&T becomes the ONLY nation-wide GSM carrier, doesn't that make it a monopoly?

Yup, that's the idea of it. There has to be competition, or else they can really set the price to whatever they want, blahblahblah.
A while back, ATT nearly was a monopoly, and they were forced to split into many parts and sell those off to increase competition.. Now they are buying everyone back again lol. I used to have Cingular for my mobile service.. then they were bought by ATT about 8-10 years ago. Didn't have a problem with the merge, and my reception actually improved.
I remember having a bad experience with ATT when I moved and transferred my DSL service to my new apt. The service really sucked (it was too far from the connection office), and I wanted to cancel, but was told I still had 3 months left on the old contract. So I let the 3 months go by so I didn't have to pay an ETF.. after that, I called to cancel, and now, they said when I moved, I entered into a new yearly contract at the new address, and would be charged a $250 ETF. I did no such thing, and didn't sign any new contract. It was BS, and took over a month to get rid of them.
Was so pissed off I switched to Sprint later that year, and haven't had any ATT services for about 5 years. I'm happy with T-mo, and their pre-paid $50/month plan is pretty nice. I hope ATT doesn't change that, otherwise I'll be switching carriers again.
Homestly tmobile sucks, especially their customee service..they do provide the weakest lineup compare to other carriers..they dont have roll over minutes or one fav person as your favorite to use unlimites minutes..so for a person who talks a lot and has 1500 minutes still doesnt cut it!!

+1 My wife and I have had T-Mobile for about 10 yrs now and have always been happy. I have 4 lines (2 with 3000 minutes + unlimited text/data and 2 with 600 minutes and 300 texts). I have always been given great service the few times I had to call. They have always given us the new user discount 18-19 months into the contract for cheaper upgrades too. My work cell used to be AT&T, but then changed over to Verizon and I found both of them to be lacking in every way. I always check the Costco phone kiosk for deals. picked up a BB pearl the week it hit for $29, a Samsung Highlight the week it hit for free, and my SGS4G for $50 bucks back in February when it came out for allowing them to change my number on the renewed plan... lol. I missed the MT4g for a penny (yeah, $0.01) by a week for the wife, but still only paid $150 for it.
I'm not sure what I'll do. I guess that depends on what AT&T does with this side of their house. Might swing a GS2 in with a change over if/when it happens. All I know is T-Mobile has always been great to us and we have stayed b/c of that and they have the best plans/pricing out there.

Hey AT&T, what did the DOJ's five fingers say to your face:
http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2011-...t-to-block-proposed-at-t-t-mobile-merger.html
I have so much hate for AT&T for their outrageous pricing, terrible service, and I just hate them. Can't explain it. Maybe because I've been with Tmo for almost 8 years.
Hope this merger goes down in flames.
and then I was like F*&k YEAH!!!!!!! It's about time we got some actual anti trust enforcement! I highly doubt many tmobile customers will be disappointed by this!
Good news indeed. However, this is far from over. AT&T have about 7 billion reasons to keep fighting for the deal to go through.
Coolness! I despise AT$T! Everything about them makes my skin crawl. Now we need the FCC to get behind this.

FCC says will not undermine DOJ in AT&T review
http://news.yahoo.com/t-t-mobile-de...BzdGNhdAN0ZWNoBHB0A3NlY3Rpb25zBHRlc3QD;_ylv=3WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The Federal Communications Commission said it will not undermine the Justice Department in its review of AT&T Inc's $39 billion bid for Deutsche Telekom AG's T-Mobile USA.
The Justice Department filed a lawsuit to block the deal on Wednesday because of anti-competition concerns.
The FCC has never approved a significant takeover that the Justice Department has challenged in court, a commission official said.

Everyone cried about Tmo's data cap. Verizon and ATT are capped also. For kicks I went to ATT to check pricing on Iphone. 1 phone plan was nearly the same as the 5 I have on Tmo. I politely pointed out that thats probably the reason I was the only one in the store and made my way to the door.

What you guys don't understand is that T-Mobile can't make it on its own. That's why Deutsche Telekom was unloading it. They also can't afford the investment necessary to move to LTE and staying on HSPA isn't a viable long-term competitive option. Discounting their way to success (the current strategy) isn't viable when they have the highest unit cost base of the four major carriers. If the deal falls through, they'll end up merging with Sprint. Combining Sprint's CDMA network with T-Mobile's GSM network isn't going to be fun for either set of customers. Be careful what you wish for.

TO Sprint! While I liked my G2X and LOVED all teh support it was getting from all of the developers, the service in my area was just unbearable. Since I moved here 4 years ago I was not able to even stream a song or pandora on the crap EDGE network.
I got the Samsung Galaxy SII Epic 4G Touch and I am loving it so far. I got a hell of a deal and couldnt pass it up. I know Verizon is a better network to be on but it was $30 more and it wasnt truly unlimited like Sprint is.
I got my G2X through Best Buy Mobile and signed up for the buy back program.. well today I went to go see how much that buy back is worth and they gave me $450 for my G2X! It was too good to pass up. So with that $450 I paid the $200 for the new sprint phone, and another $200 for terminating T-mobile contract and walked out of the store with a $50 best buy gift card. It blew my mind, I got paid to switch to a better network and better phone.

Yeah I dumped Sprint earlier this year. Couldn't stand the thought of paying $10 extra a month for "smart phone fee" that used to be called "4G" data fee. Of course my city doesn't have Sprint 4G so you could understand how I felt about that bogus fee. My Sprint 3G download speed at home was 100-300kb per sec. I am getting 7-8meg per sec download with Tmobile. I also got 1 bar with Sprint at home and I get full bars at home with Tmobile.

Ya my buddy on sprint with his nexus s sitting right next to me gets 1.2mb down and I get 8mb down during peak hours he wasn't too happy with his choice either. Best wishes to the OP, how is epic touch, SGSII?
Sent from my LG-P999 using XDA Premium App
Thanks folks, I only get 1.2Mbps here inside on 3G. I read everywhere that sprints 3G is slow but it sure beats the heck out of 128Kbps to where I cant even use Pandora while going for a jog. I can still watch youtube and stream netflix and all ther other stuff just fine. T-mobile has no support in my area whatsoever, Best Buy Mobile carried their phones here for like 8 months and just dropped them all last week and picked up Cricket of all things... I did like HSPA+ here in the Twin Cities (Minneapolis / St. Paul) I pulled like 5 down but I was with my friend that just got the LG Revolution and he pulled 12 down which was pretty nuts.
The SGSII is pretty sweet, Its living up to the hype I gues. Its really speedy and the screen is nice. I used to have a Vibrant before the G2X and everybody knows how crappy the GPS was on that among other things which is why I was leary on getting another Samsung. I have run GPS test side by side and the G2X never gets anything below a full green par and 6.1 foot accuracy, and this SGSII took alot longer to get to the 6.1 foot accuracy and didnt lock onto half of the satellites the G2X did and the signal strength was less than half. Aside from GPS I think the SGSII wins in every catagory, it takes amazing phones, I just wish with this huge 4.53" screen that the resolution was better but its hardly noticeable.
I was going to hold out for T-mobiles variant of the SGSII but it doesnt have the Exynos and I was never going to see the 42Mbps ever around here anyways so I had enough of not using internet without wifi. I also kind of wanted to see what teh Nexus Prime was going to be like but it seems like every phone that ever comes out has some sort of huge problem with it especially the G2X and first gen galaxy S phones. And who knows if the Prime is going to have some sort of defect. There are no major hardware problems reported of the SGSII so far and thats all that mattered to me. It has everything I need. I would assume there is going to be ALOT of support for this new device since all the first gen EVO people are probably getting an upgrade soon and want it and there have boon tons of people coming from the Evo 3D because well.. that device blows.
Well it seems that all of samsungs new phones are based off of the galaxy s design in some way or another so you would have to think that with each iteration it gets better. I'm sure the prime will be a beast of a phone. I felt the nexus s was outdated before it even launched

Yeah their insurance is WAAAAAY better too. I highly suggest it. Its like $2 more than sprints but i can smash the phone weekly without question and they will replace it with no deductible no questions asked.. now that I think about it HAHAHAHAHA I gave them my G2X with MIUI running on it, they never even bothered to check it while i was in the store. They probably messed around withit thinking it was some phone from the future. I miss MIUI Touchwiz sucks.
My main reason for dumping Sprint was because in summer of 2010, I got 2mbps on evdo, in August 2011 I was slower than edge. The 10 dollar fee didnt bother me too bad, but then they took away my yearly phone subsidy. This broke the straw.

Not to be an a$$, but did you research sprint lately? They've made tons of changes to their policies and terms. Not to mention, their network took a big hit with alltell (I think it was theirs) towers being sold off. OMG!!!...soo sad...
That was a long waste of a process. Verizon and AT&T control 75% of the market. Sprint and T-Mobile USA are too small to survive on their own. They cannot keep pace with the capital investments of the much larger Verizon and AT&T. Sprint is struggling to build a 4G LTE network, and T-Mobile does not even have any immediate plans for one. I am hoping that some big outside investors (Dish Network, Google, etc.) come in and buy out the small carriers and make the necessary cash infusions. As a consumer, I want affordable, nation-wide mobile broadband with high (or unlimited) data caps.
T mobile is fine. Sprint however is in trouble.

Customers disagree because T-Mobile continues to bleed subscribers without the iPhone. It is why Sprint is paying so heavily to finally get the iPhone this quarter.

Absolutely...the iPhone is not needed for T-Mobile to get customers. the HTC Amaze and Samsung Galaxy S2 are more than sufficient and considerably better phones than the iPhone 4S...maybe 2 years ago, T-mobile needed the iPhone, but not today. I highly doubt the iphone will save sprint or bolster their marketshare.

Iphone and lte. The iphone is not a network saving device. A lot of people would still buy the iphone out right and stay on t-mobile network. Most people jump to conclusions assume the deal would go through and left t-mobile.
Lets assume T-mobile starts pushing out windows 8 phones next year and they are as intuitive and intergrated with the desktops.
That will bring in more consumers since its a device that works with already most of your home products.
Lte as of right now t-mobile does not need Lte. The technology has not caught enough to have Lte reliable. Most Lte phones don't last more than 5-8 hrs. You shouldn't have to disconnect from 4g service to get decent battery life. Lte has often seen outages as well.
Hspa+ as for now shows that Lte is not needed. Majority of users have wifi at home. Also ping on Lte networks are either low or extremely high. Compared to t-mobile network. Higher ping the longer it takes for the web page to load.
T-mobile needs a better market strategy. Most of their good devices never have a commercial or any type of advertisement. The best bet would be to sell t-mobile to a company with a lot of spectrum like dish.

Customers disagree because T-Mobile continues to bleed subscribers without the iPhone. It is why Sprint is paying so heavily to finally get the iPhone this quarter.

And Sprint shareholders agree that the iPhone is bad for business. I'm one of them. It's been painful.
If AT&T bought out T-mobile wouldn't that cause some kind of monopoly? At&T would control all of the market. Not to mention the prices of t-mobile would probably raise. Keep in mind AT&T was saying they'd try and keep T-mobiles price rates which i don't see happening.

If the merger did happened, AT&T and Verizon would account for 80% of the wireless in the US.
