[Q] Do i Re-Partition Doing Odin? - Samsung Galaxy S (4G Model)

hey guys am i suppose to re-part when using odin? i forgot and accidentally did it? i dont remember if i was suppose to or not.. if i wasent suppose to any suggestions?

If i'm not mistaken yes you doo.

i don't think so. i never repartitioned mine.

Kc1 yes... Dont think so on kg4... If you do, and you was not supposed to, you'll get the cant mount/format cache errors... Then you'll have to start all over eith kc1...
Unless someone wants to correct my wrongness...

No..im sure when u use Odin and load files if Odin checks re partion then dont uncheck it if.it doesnt check it then leave it alone
Sent from my SGH-T959V using XDA App

Assumption of resetting Odin between...
if its wrong, unable to mount cache, then its the other way when flash the GB.... 50/50 chance...
I didnt repartition on the kg4 kernel...

I think you only have to re partition when using a PIT file along with pda, csc etc. Otherwise, you leave that option unchecked.

This is correct. The option for repartitioning will check itself after the pit is selected.

Weird, I Odin kc1 then to Odin kd1..i get the unable to mount errors when repartitioned... Only when I Odin from kc1 to kd1 did I have this. Not from kd1 to kg4..
Weird...

[Q] Return to stock Odin question

When using odin to return to stock, what are the three things you insert in the slots?
the pit, pda tar, and the phone tar
is this like the rom, and like the modem, and kernel?
or is the rom and kernel together and the other the modem?
just curious.
Depends on which package you're using.

in this case, what would these be, copied and pasted below.
6) Click the PIT button and choose infuse.pit (and make sure Re-Partition is checked)
7) Click the PDA button and choose PDA_UCKD5.tar.md5
8) Click the PHONE button and choose PHONE_UCKD5.tar.md5
Thats the ultimate unbrick..will take you back to complete stock

quick question, I see in cwm under mounts and storage you can format /system. If I do that would I lose cwm while i'm in it? I'm figuring I would just have to reflash but I don't want to do it and be sol. Just looking for some reassurance.

The recovery file on Froyo is located in /system/bin. On my Gingerbread ROM it's found under /sbin. I believe it needs supporting files, though, so even though it's in /sbin on GB I can't say whether you'd be hosed or not.
Regardless, why would you want to format /system anyway? You might as well just flash a new ROM, eh?
/scratches head...why would you want to do that? I don't think you would lose CWM but I do know that doing a data wipe would probably be potentially less destructive if you are having issues and you definitely would not lose CWM.

Yeah I can get in download mode, I've tried various things several times. I just can't get any PC to see my phone. But it sees my wifes fine. She has the galaxy s 4g but its untouched. I was told I may have screwed up some files within the phone because of using
Odin.

[Request] PIT File for 16GB SGH-I727 Re-Partition

Sunday, March 18, 2012
SGH-I727 Owners & XDA Members:
I need to completely repartition, reformat, and reinstall OS on my Skyrocket; but I've only got the radio, OS, and CSC. I still need the PIT file for my phone in order to repartition. Without it, repartitioning will fail and soft-brick my phone. I've searched the forum, and maybe I'm not using the right keywords to search, but I just can't find it. Is there anyone out there who has this file or can point me to it? I would be very appreciative. Thanks in advance!
Thank you,
Ed

Honestly I think we have yet to see a pit file for our skyrocket. I can't get heimdall to work on my windows or my linux machine. I mean it works but doesn't recognize my phone. If you know a trick to make it work ide pull the pit for ya. I wonder if there is a way to do it with adb?

Just urious, y do u need to complrtely partition? Erasing data, system and emmc partitions, as well as reflashing radio then odin stock is the same, no?

[Q] Tried rooting my phone first time, soft bricked it.

I got it rooted, installed a few apps and everything seemed to be working fine, i shut it off for the night and woke up yesterday morning and it gave me this screen.
(I cant post a link, but if you google Firmware Upgrade Encountered, it pulls up quite a few pictures of this same situation.
I can't get into download or recovery mode. The samsung logo will appear for a split second before this screen appears. Kies does not reconize the phone. All i want to do is get my phone to turn on and go back to stock settings.
Can anybody please help me?
Use odin to flash the stock rom. Did you pull the battery?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using xda app-developers app
Im not sure where to get the stock rom.. and when i get it should i put it next to PDA and tick the same boxes i used to root it? Also, do i need to use a pit file?
EDIT: Also yeah, i did pull the battery out. Thats the only way to turn the phone off now, as it is completely unresponsive.
Go to Sammobile.com. you'll down load a zip file. Use 7-zip to extract the .tar.md5 file out of it. Use that in PDA. Only have auto-reboot and f.reset checked.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using xda app-developers app
Sorry to be such a noob.. but I looked around on that site and can't seem to find a .zip file to download.. the only files i can find are for phones that aren't mine.
You'll have to register, it's free. There is a firmware section on the site. It'll walk you through the type of phone, etc. And then give you s couple of files available for Doreen load. The newest one is ics
Damn spell correction

But if you can't get in download mode (per your op) downloading the file will do you no good. I don't understand why the other poster told you to Odin. You can't Odin unless it is in download mode. :what:

If you can get the com port to light up in Odin chances are it'll flash. That'll be the next step.

While it's downloading, does odin recognize your phone? Also, I'm assuming you put the battery back in and having the same problem, it didn't boot.

Im not sure how to tell if its recognizing it, I did try that with the battery, and after it downloaded there as an MD5 File and an application extension. what should I do with the extension?
You don't need the extension, just the md5. When you plug your phone into the computer with Odin running, the batter needs to be in, does the com port light up? I'm also assuming your Odin version is 1.85
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using xda app-developers app

I've not had good luck with the newer one. I'd recommend 1.85.
