Hi,
I moved to another city in the same country and took my adsl modem /access point with me.
Now my location is incorrect in Google Maps.
How does wifi geolocation work ?
How can I fix the location of my modem ?
thx.

I have a Verizon XV6900 with unlimited data connection and I have the gps enabled with Google Maps (cannot seem to get it to work with TomTom)(any suggestions would be appriciated).
Anyways, my wife has a ATT Tilt with no data plan. Her gps works fine so is there a way or software where we can see each other's gps locations without her having a data connection?
Thanks
Kevin
Any GPS software with bundled maps don't require any data connection (tomtom/igo).
Google maps does not bundle any map, so it has to cross check your gps location, and download the map for that location.
For some reason my router’s location is way off (in a different state). I bought it off eBay few months back, perhaps it is still showing previous owner’s location.
From what I could find out, Google periodically updates their location database with data gathered using their street view cars or with those anonymously submitted by users (using apps like Google maps mobile). Now I’m wondering if there is a way for me to manually submit my own data or better yet somehow enter my WiFi router’s location data into the phone so whenever I’m connected to my home WiFi my location wont be detected at a different state?
If changing WiFi location is not possible then is there a way to at least give Cell tower location priority over Wi-Fi ? Because my cell tower location is far more accurate (down to like 5km, which is much better than having a location in a different state 1000km away).
Hello,
I hope you can help me. When I use google maps, HTC weather, or every app using location everything is OK if I use GPS or location is determined by cell network. If I turn on my Wifi my location is changed to different country. I want disable this wifi location feature and let enabled only GPS and cell network location. Is it possible ?? Or where I can found some configuration file about location service ? It must be possible some how on android. I have official HTC rom 2.2.1 - S-OFF by AplharevX and rooted than I am possible change system files if will be needed.
Thanks for every help

Hello, i have a BandLuxe R300 Wifi/3G router that i installedinstead of a huwaei 3G dongle..
The router connects to the internet using a SIM card that is on Zain's Network (Jordan) and i really liked how android can pinpoint your direction accurately using WiFi...
However, this wasn't the case..
No service can geolocate my location, this was there with the 3G dongle, i thought the WiFi router would solve that but no, it isn't reporting it's location, even the MAC address is reporting it's place in US, this seems to be a security feature or something.
Btw any service asking for my location via wifi returns an error, not an inaccurate position.
Now, to my question, Is there anything i can do to the router somehow that i can set a static location for it?
[Edit] Apparently it's called W3C spoofing?
Ill think not. it give's you US location ?

Click to collapse
It doesn't give a location at all, i tried looking up the mac address but it shows up in the pacific or something...
apparently google uses something to tag my WiFi router's Mac adress to a geolocation
Any ideas how i can set that manually? i've done that just now with skyhooks but does google use that as a reference?
The Google Now Weather card shows the wrong location most of the time. It looks like it is showing the location for the cell tower I'm connected to, not my WiFi. I have the location services set for battery saving which uses Wi-Fi and cellular networks. Even when I had it set for high accuracy which added GPS as a location source it still mostly thought my location was the cell tower I connect to. I have my home address set. How do I tell Google Now not to use the cell tower for my location since it is several cities away?
any luck with this? Mine recently began doing this as well. and strangely only for weather.
I live in Los Angeles, CA and it shows me weather for Sacramento, CA when i'm at home
No luck yet. It seems to be a little more accurate with lollipop but sometimes it still shows the city where the cell tower is.
