Hello,
I hope you can help me. When I use google maps, HTC weather, or every app using location everything is OK if I use GPS or location is determined by cell network. If I turn on my Wifi my location is changed to different country. I want disable this wifi location feature and let enabled only GPS and cell network location. Is it possible ?? Or where I can found some configuration file about location service ? It must be possible some how on android. I have official HTC rom 2.2.1 - S-OFF by AplharevX and rooted than I am possible change system files if will be needed.
Thanks for every help

For some reason my router’s location is way off (in a different state). I bought it off eBay few months back, perhaps it is still showing previous owner’s location.
From what I could find out, Google periodically updates their location database with data gathered using their street view cars or with those anonymously submitted by users (using apps like Google maps mobile). Now I’m wondering if there is a way for me to manually submit my own data or better yet somehow enter my WiFi router’s location data into the phone so whenever I’m connected to my home WiFi my location wont be detected at a different state?
If changing WiFi location is not possible then is there a way to at least give Cell tower location priority over Wi-Fi ? Because my cell tower location is far more accurate (down to like 5km, which is much better than having a location in a different state 1000km away).
Hi,
I moved to another city in the same country and took my adsl modem /access point with me.
Now my location is incorrect in Google Maps.
How does wifi geolocation work ?
How can I fix the location of my modem ?
thx.
Hi, I've tried to do a bit of searching on XDA / google but not found exactly what I am looking for. I've seen all the APN switchers but these do not alter the actual network provider from what I understand.
What I would like to do is have an automated why of switching between T-Mobile and Orange networks. In the UK we can now use either network but the current policy is that when the provider is set to automatic network selection if a T-Mobile signal cannot be found then it should switch to an Orange signal if one is available.
This is fine but my T-Mobile signal is not very good in certain locations (fail to get SMS message) and so I'd like to be able to switch to Orange without going through the system settings menu which is slow because of the network search.
I'd love to get a tasker plugin or script that could automatically perform the switch based on location if possible.
Any info would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Hi
Did you find any solutions for that because I need exactly the same thing?
Thanks
Sadly not, I've ended up just using the Orange signal full time.
Just downloaded the EU RUU from the HTCDev website and updated my Desire S even though previously (Gingerbread) it was RUU of India. May be because the RUU uploaded is WWE (World Wide Edition). Did anyone receive OTA update ?
Anyways, after update I checked Google maps with GPS satellites OFF in 3G network. I was getting Location unavailable. However, I was able to get it with 2G network. Anyone else faced this issue ? In 3G with GPS Satellites On I was able to get a location. In all cases I had an active data connection in 3G or 2G.
If someone out there did not get their phone updated yet and has 3G, can you please verify if we can get position on maps with 3G with GPS satellites OFF and with just active data connection?
I think, it's matter of your network or rom itself.
I experienced somethin simmilar.
I was on WIFI, and the weather widget was saying "Location unavailable" although it downloaded weather for my location. After couple of hours it was ok. I got mine location.
No issues on my end.. Works with or without GPS ON.. on WiFi, 3G.. still have to check 2G.. But you say it works for you anyway..
Go to settings -> Locations and make sure you have the Google's location service option checked..

I have checked that option and yet for 3G with GPS OFF and active data connection it is giving location unavailable. Any solution ?
Hello folks..
I have been having a problem recently with the weather widget not picking up native GPS location and always picks up from mobile/wifi networks..
I have tried searching but did not find an existing topic on this.. Is anyone able to get a gps lock using through GPS status application? For me it just keeps spinning and says looking for gps location when only gps is selected in location services..
I know that it will work when I choose mobile and Wifi networks too in location services..
Cheers!
