[REQ] Transformer wpa_supplicant file - Eee Pad Transformer Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

[REQ] please post wpa_supplicant file from transformer
I am trying to find a copy of the wpa_supplicant file from the transformer to see if it will work on the xoom. My xoom by default doesn't show or connect to ad-hoc networks but with a modified wpa _supplicant file it can. I noticed that a stock transformer could connect to my ad-hoc network so I want to try it on my xoom.
All you need is to be rooted and have a file manager that can remount system files. Root explorer is my favorite but if you don't have it or don't want to buy it es file explorer will work for free. Navigate to system/bin and copy the wpa_supplicant and post it back to this thread. Pretty easy... Thanks in advance.

It absolutely is.
I am developing a mod to add ad-hoc connectivity to the xoom. I just don't have the source file from the transformer.

This is not development for the Asus Transformer. Therefore it should be in Q&A. Moving there.

An Application was removed from the Market Place. How do I go about downloading it?

Hello!
I received my Asus EEE Pad Transformer on the 27th of April. This is my first Android Device, and my first tablet and I'm loving it.
Now I've downloaded all the Emulators by Yongzh (Snesoid, Gameboid..etc) but I noticed the Sega Genesis Emulator (Gensoid) is missing! Apparently it was removed at the request of Sega.
Is there any possible way to install Gensoid out of the Marketplace? If yes, how would I go about doing that?
Thank You.
If you get a copy of the APK, you could simply download that to your Transformer and install that. It might also be found on one of the other markets, such as Amazon's.

Thank you for the response! I have said .apk file now.
Which app would be better to install onto my transformer device?
AndroZip File Manager https://market.android.com/details?id=com.agilesoftresource&feature=search_result
or
appInstaller https://market.android.com/details?id=com.IQBS.android.appInstaller&feature=search_result
Do you have any personal experience with these apps?

The transformer comes with a built in file manager. Put it in a folder, the find it with the file manager.

[Q] Sideload apps?

I just got my transformer today with keyboard (its so cool!) and I have a colelction of apps from my old android handsets on my laptop. Is there a way of sideloading these apps onto the tablet without rooting?
just copy the apk files to the transformer and then run them from file explorer.

Ah awesome. Glad its that easy.
You have to check that box about loading apps from outside the market though, don't you?
Yes, you have to.

Samsung Replenish tether to Acer A500?

I have rooted both my Samsung Replenish and my Acer A500, installed the Wifi Tether AND the Wireless Tether apps, tried both, but my A500 did not recognize them at all.
So, in rooting around I found this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1033314
Which has a modified wpa_supplicant file.
I downloaded it,
turned off wifi,
unzipped it,
and using Root Explorer, renamed the old wpa_supplicant in the /system/bin/ folder,
then copied the modified wpa_supplicant to that same folder,
changed the permissions on the modified file to 755 (rwxr-xr-x),
rebooted my A500,
re-enabled wifi, and there it was.
I was able to connect and browse just fine.
There is another modified wpa_supplicant file that you can dl and try (I have not): http://www.android.net/forum/downloads.php?do=file&id=40

[FIX] AdHoc support for CM9

UPDATE: If you still have problems with ad-hoc networks try euroskank's latest CM9 build. It's recognizing ad-hoc networks without problems. I've not tried Quarx builds but they should be fixed aswell
Well, I saw many people asking for it and though it's a known fix, it doesn't comes bad a tread about it.
It's a very simple fix. As CM7 has a working connectivity to adhoc nets all u have to do is to copy the file /system/bin/wpa_supplicant from a CM7 rom and replace the same file in the folder in CM9 ROM. It's an easy job if you are running a double boot CM7/CM9.
If that doesn't work, you can also try in addition to the previous step, get the file /data/misc/wifi/wpa_supplicant.conf and replace it in the same folder under CM9. I'd recommend before doing this, to connect effectively to the adhoc net. That will save the SSID in the .conf file.
If not, you can create a new connection under settings>wifi using the desired SSID and try.
For those who don't have a dual boot with CM7 here are my files and you can try something with them (there's already a SSID named wifi win, if u cant make it work, try to rename your PC SSID to wifi win)
Well, hope this can help somebody, suggestion and advises are welcome
when I tried replacing wpa_supplicant from CM7 to CM9, it didn't work.
will try with config file later on as I am on MIUI now.
Try it and tell me, it worked to me
Don't forget to open Terminal Emulator and type:
su
chmod +x /system/bin/wpa_supplicant

Asus Mynet app

Hi there. I try to install Asus Mynet app on another tablet (Nexus 7) but copying .apk and .odex files did not do the job. Is there another way to install? Thank you.
Sent from my ASUS Transformer Pad TF700T
It's possible that it only works on ASUS firmware. As each stock ROM is different from device to device.
Also, It could be that asus uses some sort of app framework. If they do, then you probably need to install it.

You won't be able to copy the .odex file to the nexus 7 as the frameworks are different. You need to use the DEODEX version of mynet and copy that.
Either find a version of the ASUS Apps or download CROMI from my sig and extract it from there.

You can't install it like a normal apk as it will be signedprotected (?) differently.
You can insert it into your systm/app folder and change the permissions to the same as other system apps using root explorer or es file explorer - it might work that way. Remember to reboot after.

Nope, tried that and it still doesn't work. BTW - the permissions were already the same as other apps.
Thanks for the idea though...
