As we all well known we don't have a light/proximity sensor....
Lately i'm using my phone when i'm in bed and i'm tired to "turn off" backlight every time...
So i was wandering, is there an app that could set the backlight level at 100% at day and 0% at night????
( i alredy use spb shell with backlight widget)

I found the captivate drain battery too fast, even at the lowest brightness the phone gives. So I am thinking about maybe we could further turn down the brightness of the screen, this might save a lot battery.
But how??

I noticed that from JF6 to JH7, the brightness went down one tick lower. When I had stock JF6 set to manual brightness, I used to not have a hard time reading the contents on the display while the phone is on my desk, set to the lowest setting. When I did the JH7 OTA update, I noticed that the lowest brightness setting (when set to manual) is even lower. It made it harder to read. Hope that answers your question on brightness settings. There is more on JH7 than just the brightness settings changes. Plus, there are other things you can do to save battery power than just adjusting the display brightness
When I go into Settings, About and battery use.
It show that the Display using about 60% of the power.
Everything is relative on that page. If all you do is turn on the screen and browse, the "Display" battery usage will be higher. If you're on the phone for an hour or so (which, by default, the display turns off) you'll see "Voice calls" number go up. Etc.

Basically it's saying, the time you've had your device unplugged, 60% of the battery usage has been due to the display. and 40% of it is among other things.
There's an app on the market called Dimmer that will knock the brightness down a bit from the lowest setting. There's a small window that pops up that says "changing brightness from XX to 10" where XX = 30 on the lowest setting via the default brightness settings.
This makes me suspect that the brightness could go even lower, though I don't if it would impact the performance of the screen, given the Super AMOLED tech.

This is normal..All this means is your display is using the most and you don't have any background programs eating the battery. It should always show this as the highest from what I've been told.
In settings you can can either use the automatic brightness setting..or not... it is in Sound and Display..scroll down to display settings and you will see Brightness...Screen Time Out...and Power Saving Mode . Click on Power Saving mode....if you see the green check mark there..you are unchecking it..then open the Brightness tab..click on automatic brightness adjustment if checked and do the same thing ..and then ok. Your screen will darken.. You can then install the power bar on one of your screens by touching a unpopulated area large enough to accept the power bar strip. You will then be able to adjust the brightness by tapping on it..as well as being able to turn on and off wi-fi..blue-tooth..satellite..sync..and lastly brightness.
Mac
This is good. It turns my screen from 30 to 10, and it does save battery.

Theres also an app called Screen Filter which does the same thing as you guys have been describing, except it has a slider you can use to set what you would like, I use it for reading in bed, and it works wonderfully.

What am i missing regarding screen auto brightness? I keep having to manually change brightness when going from light to dark places even though i have "adapt to lighting conditions" ticked?
It feels like im wasting battery having the screen so bright at night unless i turn it down, then I have to turn it up again in the morning.. Some secret setting?

Same here, Someone said that the screen does dim but it does so slowly so you barely notice it! Hoever iam not convinced! Iam almost certain mine is not adjusting at all
For normal day light conditions i feel the auto brightness adjusts very well. Its definitely better than the s4 i had. I have the auto brightness selected and the bar at 50%. I agree for night time reading i have to manually adjust the brightness may be its not as quick to adjust in very low light conditions compared to day light
I was using CM11 on the S4 which had very good brightness control, not sure about standard. I agree during the day I don't have problems at all, and the screen is very good. It's just when I'm somewhere with low brightness and I have to turn it down, and then when I go back into day I have to turn it back up again. Pretty annoying having to change it all the time.
I will get an app to do it for me for now, but this must be some sort of bug this action couldn't be on purpose.

I find the auto brightness not very good.
Sometimes when the lighting condition does not change, it will start to increase/decrease the brightness to the level which does not suit the lighting condition.
It also have the tendency to favor lower brightness.
Thinking of trying out Lux Auto Brightness instead.

I don't know if you mean to test the sensor, but the sensor works absolutely fine (with other apps)
My auto brightness works just fine and i have mine on lowest possible setting.
whenever the phone is just resting on the table, it will randomly just up the lockscreen for a few seconds, then turn back off.
I do not use any auto brightness. anybody else experience this? It usually happens a few minutes after it's been used.
maybe notifications waking screen to remind you. maybe background app forcing screen wake. have you only noticed this after downloading an app . maybe try deleting recent apps and seing if it persists
i have not had this same issue but with same thing ......with auto brightness off..have you noticed while using it the screen dims. gets lighter? etc you can be on internet page and your screen goes much brighter? also sometimes goes dimmer?
i beleif it to be battery optimisation . or that turning off auto brightness doesnt really turn it off. or there is bug in software that does this.

It is quite possible that ambient display is the culprit. Look in display settings and see if it is enabled.
Hello, we understand your concerns about the display and its brightness. Here are some tips to correct your auto-brightness issue.
- Your phone will automatically adjust the screen brightness according to the ambient brightness. Clear the Automatic brightness check box to manually adjust the brightness.
- For sleep mode, the screen will lock automatically after a period of inactivity to reduce power consumption. Select Sleep to adjust the screen-off time or disable the automatic screen lock feature.
If the problem persists, try backing up your device and performing a "master reset". This should help correct any buggy issues you are having with your display. (NS)
You don't receive notification and it lights up randomly, right?!
Disable voice wake-up from Settings. The same thing happened on my P8.
So voice wake-up os begins this, I've never enabled it, I didn't thought about it

Still the problem exists. I mentioned already we have automatic brightness box unchecked and still the brightness changes.
If you're on MM try to rollback to LP

Try changing Power Plan to Performance if it is set on Smart.

A factory reset should solve the problem, if other solutions don't work

Is there a way to Schedule Always on Display OFF at Night?
It would be great if you could do this or find an app??
I massively extend my watch battery life, by doing the following:-
During the day Always on mode set to +7 brightness. Wrist gesture feature enabled
At night I have setup Do Not Disturb between 10pm and 6am. Always on set to off. Wrist gesture feature disabled.Brightness set to +1. So at night to see time you have to press the top right button.
Trouble is I have to go through a ritual of selecting these settings before going to sleep and when I have woken up - it would be nice to have these settings scheduled????

You can optimise it a bit: with do no disturb mode on, the gesture is automatically off. And put the brigth to 1 is also unusefull, as you have to wake it up manually and very few times at nigth.
Anyway, I am with you. I have asked several times to Samsung to add a nigth auto mode based on schedule (I have S2) disabling AOD and enabling do not disturb, with no action by them.

Hi,
Are there any news?
Heard something about Tasker for the S3.
Regards,
Nestade
I am considering switch from Huawei to S3. Huawei automatically switches off the AOD if being laid for a while.
Does Samsung do this?
The S3 will turn off the screen and cancel notifications the moment you take it off your wrist.
I like to use the sleep tracker but like others when it comes on at 2 AM it's like a flashlight in the dark. It would be nice not having to turn the display down to 1 every night.

Any tips on wearing s3 while sleeping?
First night I wore it, no problems. Second night and the battery completely drained. I had just finished charging it so it started at 100%. S health shows data for four hours.
Thoughts on what could drain it so fast?
Non-LTE model, AOD on, brightness at 7.
You need to change your settings before you go to bed!
Turn off wrist gesture.
Turn off AOD
Set brightness to 1/2
I also set do not disturb between 11pm to 6am
It would be nice if there could be an app where you could schedule all these settings would save you having to do them before and after sleep??
Thanks, don't forget to shut off sensitivity setting. I forgot that I was playing with it yesterday and left it enabled.
You would think if they can detect when you are asleep it could automatically turn on dnd and set the screen to off (only turn on when a button is pushed). No need to schedule anything
Personally I'm not sexually attracted to my watch so I would never think of doing such a thing.
