I might trade my sensation for mytouch slide 4g only because of physical keyboard.
My old mytoich 3g slide is great but flex cable that connects broke after a month or so. Replacement for it was $60.
Was that fixed in this phone?
The flex ribbon breaking was definitely an issue on the 3G Slide, but I got mine for around $30.
There really is no way to tell if this phone will do the same, as most issues occured after about a year of heavy use, unless somone wants to volunteer to open and close their slide thousands of times.
My laptop is having this issue as well, so it's not necessarily a phone issue (although I hope they beefed up the wires or something).
I suppose you could consider my sliding in/out of the phone keyboard excessive.
I do a lot with terminal emulator on the phone, and you can't get some of the special characters ( / for instance ) using the hardware keyboard. I won't use the on-screen keyboard to actually type, though, I just slide the hardware one in, get my special character, then slide the hardware one back out.
You can imagine how much sliding takes place typing in paths to files on the phone.
This is in addition to "normal use".
I haven't noticed any issues thus far, but as pointed out above, it would take a long time for it to wear out.
Jury is still out on this one, so too early to tell, but I thank you for bringing it to my attention. I'll post back here if I ever have any issues with it.
Yeah, it would suck because on my 3G Slide, my call speaker stopped working first, then the buttons wouldn't light up (but still function normally), then I had the dreaded half-screen drawing issues, and finally the thing no longer displayed the screen.
I followed the dissassembly guide here and fixed her right up (except I broke the connector for the volume switch)..!

Hmm... if it's been a year and you haven't replied back then I may have an answer to my question. As a former 3g slide owner myself, I was curious about the life of the flex cable. Thank you search function and guy I am quoting!
Wow, it's been a year to the DAY.
I sold my 3g slide after I fixed the cable, but I'd imagine it lasts just as long as the OEM cable, which for me was a year with very heavy use (I used the keyboard like a mad-man).

If you do a little research you will find that the touch pro/fuse have keyboard issues- it is a hardware issue not software. Many are returning it back to their carriers and exchanging them. Others open them and plug in the wire that might have came out. There is a fix which many, including myself, tried and works. Take the battery out, and press keyboard space key or B in while holding the back...this pushes in any lose keyboard connection it might have. It seems when you put the battery in can loosen that wire. Search PPCgeeks- there are pictures there on how to open it up....scratch that...here is the link: http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=62876
That is a temporary fix, eventually it will go out. I had to buy a whole keyboard on ebay for 45 bucks. I got mine and works great from this ebay seller (gotmilk2099)- here is the ebay link http://cgi.ebay.com/HTC-Touch-Pro-S...ZViewItemQQptZCell_Phones?hash=item3ef9d2130c

Yea i thought the same thing. but when i push txt and mail on the keyboard, a pttmod error message appears. and when i switch roms, even an earlier version of energy, its totally fixed. but i was warned abut the bugs in energy photon rom. so i was wondering if there's a fix. and yes, i did research. it is software. or else i would have had a new one by now. any thoughts?
the Keyboard of Windows Phone 7 is nice, and with slow-typing people, it would be kinda easy i guess. But with me, writing down notes by Office Word on my HD7 during class, is a nightmare. I usually type it incorrectly, and then need to fix it... I mean, the characters stick together kinda close, make it hard to type fast.
What about you guys?
Coming from my Android to WP7 my amount of mistakes has been greatly decreased, I really love this keyboard. Have you maybe tried rotating the device to enlarge the keys slightly bigger?
I think your question needs to be in two parts. The first part is, as you already asked, "how often do you type incorrectly", but the second part needs to be "and how often does the keyboard recognize what you meant and auto-correct for you".
Because, in answer to the first part I would say "very often", but to the second part I would say "almost always". So, in short, there are very few occasions for me where I need to make manual corrections to what I type (unless I am typing non-standard "words" such as email addresses or cryptic passwords).
This happens a lot to me. It seems that the keyboard just can't keep up sometimes. Two words will be smushed into one because it didn't count a few of the keystrokes that I made.

What phone was this? I have never had this happen to me on any Windows Phone I've ever used. But then again, I was coming from a HD2, where you could miss 25 characters in a row easily.
And to answer the question, for some reason, enabling the "tap" sound greatly increases my accuracy. I'm still not sure why that is! But even on the few times I make a mistake, WP7 frequently corrects me.

Samsung Focus. I type really fast, and I think sometimes my other thumb lands on a key before I lift the previous one off of the screen, causing neither to register.
I just typed out a long email, making sure to pay attention to this. Everything went really smoothly. I guess maybe sometimes I'm just being lazy and not lifting my thumbs in time.

I'm pretty sure a benefit to having a cap screen is that it can register the next key press before your other finger is off the letter.
I've got an Omnia 2, and typing on THAT is a nightmare. Anyone who is faster than a hunt and peck will be tearing their hair out.
The keyboard works amazingly for me. My only problem is I start going so fast that I get ahead of myself and start entering gibberish. But for 97% of my mistakes, it auto-corrects. I'm consistently blown away by how well it performs.
Yeah, actually holding down one thumb doesn't hinder the other from typing at all. I don't know why it happens sometimes, maybe I just do type too fast.
i have a samsung focus and the only typing errors i have occasionally is when hit the space key it registers as either "c,n or M" but that could be because i have big thumbs
I have a slide out keyboard for this very reason. I have never encountered a touch keyboard that satisfied my needs. I've tried HTC on WM6 and swype, I wouldn't say that WP7's keyboard is perfect but it certainly works well but only for short messages, if I ever need to write something in a proper sentence I always use my hardware keyboard simply because touch keyboard are unable to read my thoughts
The Deal is, you have to type fast like you actually write it down on the paper during class. ( i am a kind of lazy) . You type it like crazy, and you begin to screw up.
I don't have a really big thumb like other american, but i still find it kinda hard to put down like 5 pages of words on my HD7.
With a short messege, it is not a problem.

This is the problem that i am having... i should lower my speed of typing ,LOL.
Not totally sure how to describe this, but my Optimus 3D seems to be registering a single tap on the on-screen keyboard as multiple presses, usually 2-3. Has anyone else experienced this issue? Is it more of an android issue rather than with the phone? Or could it possibly be resolved through the installation of an alternative keyboard from the market?
The issue seems to occur both when charging and when running on battery power, and occurs in all applications I've tried it in so far. (Browser, Market, YouTube, Messaging)
I'm just concerned there could be an issue with the screen, so I'd like to try and get it sorted sooner rather than later, since once you go past a week or two getting a faulty phone handset sorted becomes a nightmare with retailers.

The screen of the phone is very very sensitive. What happens is that you touch the letter and then before you have the time to remove it the phone registers a continuing press. This happens because even if you dont tap with the same presure, the phone still picks up a presure and registers more taps. It isn't really something you should worry about.
Ahhh I see. Is there a way to reduce the sensitivity at all? It's a rather annoying bug and makes it next to impossible to type anything longer than just a few words using the on-screen keyboard.

I would recommend you to compare your phone with another O3D if you can. If some other O3D's work nice for you, then probably it is a harware defect.
I have never experienced such a problem on mine.
Hm, I don't know anybody else with one, however the store I bought it from did have a demonstration unit so I can pop in and try out theirs to see if it also has the same issue. If not at least I can demonstrate the problem to them.

Sounds like a plan to me
I had the same problem as the OP.
It was not from the beginning and started totally unexpected and there was a very noticeable difference before/after. Typing became almost impossible, had to do it veeery carefully.
However, a simple reboot solved my problem. Didn't happen to me again since...
Hi, totally new to Android after being with Apple a long time but loving my O3D except battery life but i'll live with that.
Does have a few niggles but it makes my iphone look sooo out dated!
Right, i have similar issue with letters duplicating but it only happens every now and then and is cured by restarting the phone.
Looks like a software glitch because typing on this phone is as good as when i use my iphone. I'm more than happy with the sensitivity.
I never thought of restarting the phone, but I've done it now and it seems to have fixed the problem. Now I just need to get used to the bigger screen then my crappy old iphone.
I love the screen size in general, though I downloaded a pinball game that only works in portrait which is not really playable because the phone is too heavy to hold only with the bottom.
Its certainly a lot easier to type than I expected coming from the N900. I really REALLY wanted something like the Optimus 3D but with a real keyboard, but sadly I can't see it happening. This "thinner is better" fad really winds me up, I prefer function over form any day of the week.
Speaking of typing, I certainly have had the key repeat problem - I thought it was a build up of grease on the touch screen confusing it. It was quite annoying as my first impression was that typing on this thing is almost as good as a hardware keyboard, then the key repeat issue surfaced. Lets see if firmware 10d fixes it.
update to HTC_IME and u wont have such problem anymore. I had same issue with standart LG keyboard
I'm having the same problem with my keyboard.
It started recently and it's very annoying to try to write a txt with a such sensitive response from the keyboard.
Restating the phone seems to have sorted the problem but, it's weird...
i had this same problem after using the phone perfectly for 2 weeks it suddenly started this annoying habit,i took it back to the carphone warehouse and they exchanged it,so far the replacement is fine.
Hi all,
This is my first thread so hopefully it will be useful to others as well.
I'd like to try to diagnose a problem with my screen, where a couple commonly-used areas (the backspace on my old keyboard, for instance, the r key, etc) are unresponsive / dead space. The problem got bad enough that I routinely had to turn my phone upside-down to be able to delete characters or finish a sentence.
I ran the CM7.1 rom for for about a year and loved it. However, I recently flashed the existz ICS rom and love it (BR2). Since I've been using the ICS keyboard, the dead spaces have become much less of a problem, but I can imagine it's only a matter of time before things wear out again.
So, is this something I an fix? I know I can buy both replacement screens and replacement screen digitizers (what are these?) on amazon for $20 or so ($40 from other websites). Would buying / installing either or both of these help me out?

This has been covered had you searched a bit. Buy a screen and digitizer combination as you will likely destroy the screen trying to separate them. Go onto youtube and look up replacement videos for how to do this. And now your phone will be fixed. As far as if YOU can fix it or not, I cannot say as I do not know your level of skill.
Having Unresponsive keys on the keyboard and a bad touch screen is two different things. Unresponsive keys on the keyboard was a known gingerbread issue. If your not having issues on ICS I wouldn't worry about it.

Well I have been a owner of a LG Nexus 5 for the past (almost) 2 years now, in fact I am coming to the end of my contract very soon and will be able to either goto another company or get a new phone.
Anyways, sometime ago I experienced a problem with my microphone and external speakers not working, or at at least some of the time... After a bit of research online I found out my problem was related to a connection inside the phone that connected the bottom assembly to the main board at the top of the phone. It required me to remove the back panel and a few screws to remove the plastic cover, but the poster suggested putting some tape on top of that connection to hold it down more firmly to the socket it connected too. So I did this. I put some black tap (electrical tape cut to fit.) on top and then assembled the phone again. Viola, It worked!
Well, a short time after I decided that I wanted to update my phone from stock kitkat (4.4.4). Always been curious about custom ROMs and gave Cyanogenmod a try. Not only that I got bold and tried the nightly releases of the new marshmellow update. After some time I started experiencing things not working, like the camera, and a lot of freezing, hang ups and random reboots (not so much the reboots as the constant freezing). Often I couldn't get anything on the screen or the phone to respond from a locked state and when I did, often the phone would lag so much, that doing anything would take a long time and proved to be impossible.
I started thinking it was the nightly releases as the source of my problem and just kind of shrugged it off and figured "they will eventually fix the problem". I kept this thinking for quite some time. But it occurred too me one day that something else was causing the issue I was facing for the simple fact that the lag started showing up in the recovery mode (also custom) and a lot of times would continue to show up after I rebooted my phone. Hence, would rule out any 'software' issues I was facing.
I began to think that my problem was hardware. Maybe it was just time for a new phone. But still months away from the end of my contract, this meant I would have to pay off the 'problematic' phone first before getting a new one. I really didn't like that idea. So while looking into this problem, in a last ditch effort, I opened my phone again. Dunno why but I also decided to get rid of the tap on the connection I tried to fix before... I popped off the connection there and had a look at it. It didn't seem damaged in any way nor did the socket. Strange as it was I put that connect back in the socket and put the cover plate back on making sure not to torque the screws and assembled everything back up....
Now the mic and ext speakers work just fine and the phone is working like I just opened the box and took it out for the first time. And I have not once seen any problems... I understand what's happening here... still just wanted to share that for it was definitely weird or what?
https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B0pUNVcVRCJ7MThMc0NHLUNkSEU
Sorry about the link, only way I can upload an image.
Just so there is no confusion... an image of the effected area, inside the phone. The arrow points to the connector and more importantly the area of the connector that seems damaged. If I press lightly where the arrow is pointing on this image, the assemable at the bottom (speaker/mic) will work, indicating a loose connection. Although after visual inspection, I cannot see any damage to connector or the socket. I suppose the only way to really "fix" the issue is to order a new part. As stated previously, already tried tape on the socket to help hold it down, but that seem to cause just as many issues with the phone performance. Any other suggestions?
When ordering a replacement part, you need to be careful because there was another XDA member replaced the same part with a cheap 3rd party solution and the phone would not charge until he replaced it with an oem part.

Does anyone else have issues with there ext. speaker and mic not working?
An update on the phone;
back to square one. My ext speaker and mic will not work. And that socket has something to do with the LCD connection on the screen as it will black out if just the right area on the back of the phone is pressed. Only way to revive the phone is to long-press the power button for a reboot. Then will come up fine but speaker and mic still do not work.

Wow, that sounds pretty low level tactics of LG... just shameful really, but not hard to believe these days...
Quite honestly, I am just going to replace the phone. Think I got a pretty good run out of it and think its pretty well time for an upgrade. Anyway, for the reason I got the phone, it wont matter the speaker and mic don't work. Just going to use it for development and it will be a good test device.
Oh an this post is related to this thread so I thought I would link it for it may help someone else facing similar problems....

I'm not sure that LG had anything to do with the low-quality replacement parts.
If I were you, look for a n5 with a smashed screen that is suitable for parts.

Good idea, except the iphone is the most popular phone around here ... find it pretty hard to find one, been looking. But thanks.
I have seen quite a few busted n5 phones in Toronto. I have managed to get working phones with a smashed screen for as little as $30 which is rare for Toronto. Average I pay is $40 to $50. For this price, I either use the phone for parts in several phones or I get third part screen from Aliexpress for around $40 CAD.
I just want to update this as well...
I am fairly certain (now thinking about causes) its not really a design flaw, but more so because I frequently sat on my phone when it was in my back pocket...

It was not me but I had that same experience. Replaced with a cheap oem and it didn't charge after that.
I found out why. The charger usb socket was not connected to anything ! Unbelievable! It lacked the black plastic backing for that part of the cable to connect to.
