On my phone, i open root explorer, sd and i can go to external sd. Hoever on my TF there is no external option. Why is this? TIA for any help.

Look in the 'Removable' folder, your external sd card will be there.

Freeing up space on sd card

So I'm trying to free up some space because i only have an 8gb card, and i want to download the new Batman game, which takes up a lot of space. So my question is, are the lost.dir files needed? Because they take up a lot of space, but i don't know what to delete

You can delete them but they will keep coming back
If your lost.dir is taking up any space (past the directory itself), you have had filesystem corruption problems on that volume. That directory is used when the OS can't repair the filesystem and puts "orphaned" directories and files in there.

Why not just make poweramp look in the external_sd instead if mnt/external_sd

It looks for sdcard/external_sd by default, cant change it

Go into power amp setting and change the folder. To where you put your music although I am a big CM fan that was one of the main reason why I don't use it that much. Anymore

in my experience poweramp doesnt play too well with symlinks. try to use true paths if possible.

Expanding USB Storage? I don't know how, but if you say swap SD Card with external SD Card, i know how (maybe).
Try using Topdroid's vold.fstab tweak, maybe that will work. If you are on CM10, i can give the app that always work.
Its okay now, cm9 has an option to basically set the ext SD as USB storage

Another program (for Windows) is Recuva. If you haven't copied anything new to the drive, you should have a good chance of recovering your data. It's saved me a few times before

[Q] obb folder in root

The obb folder is in the root of my internal storage, not in the Android folder as it was on my Nexus 4. Is this the new location for it on 4.4?
