Installing new rom phone does not seem to wipe.. - Samsung Infuse 4G

OK been doing this rom stuff since the captivate. But as I remember (whitch may be wrong) I thought a factory/data reset in CWM wipes the phone. As in every time in install a new rom(latest infuse 2.1) using full version and doing factory data reset all my files on internal memory are still present. I.E. the photos and app. folders..
Yes sorda newb question .
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I997 using XDA App

You need to factory reset your phone,or format your SD card to get that done bro
infuse.....infused.......infusion.......

Done the factory reset in the phone under privacy.. never removes any files or folders .. just acts like the day I got it with having to run setup. But folders are still present. should I check that box after selecting. Says for external storage.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I997 using XDA App

In regards to wiping all of the folders and such, you would need to unmount and format the sd card to remove all of that.
Factory Resetting only resets the OS and files related to that, which is why you are able to do it without losing any of your pictures, music, etc.

[Q] How to wipe the internal sd card?

I wanna clean my phone and get a fresh rom install and I wanted to know is there effective way of cleaning the internal SD card from all the junk that accumulated over the time with a command or I'll have to do it manually?
I format emmc in cwm, that's how i do it before rom flashes.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using Tapatalk 2
I thought that was the way but I googled it and everything that came up said never to do it.
I just noticed in the settings>storage theres an option to format usb storage will that do the trick?

I actually tried it said it formatted but nothing was missing from internal or external.
I used cwm emmc format, had troubles because installing from sd card didnt get passed the samsung logo even after downloading the rom again.
Had to do a nandroid and copy the installation to the internal and then flash.
Connect phone to PC
In CWM , mount USB storage...
When the phone storage is dispalyed on PC explorer , wipe everything you see (ctrl+a then del)
Do you have a PC ?
Actually I'm usually using my mac because it's nicer to do it from the bed. But I'll remember it for next time everything is already working great, well almost(see my other thread if interested).

How do I wipe EVERYTHING on my internal SD card?

Hi guys.
I want to start from scratch regarding my internal SD card (not using external) because I have a lot of junk that just needs to be gone.
I'm running Synergy's latest nightly and am going to flash a Jelly Bean ROM (don't know which yet) right after wiping everything.
So my question is, what do I do to make sure everything is wiped, and my phone still boots? I'm kind of lost.
I usually use CWM to flash, so what do I press in order to do this?
Thanks a lot.
You have to format the internal card with a filw explorer or in a recovery

Understood, but what happens when I try to reboot back into the phone; will it boot normally?
I ditto this question. I'm also curious about formatting my internal card and starting from scratch. I know factory reset from cwm recovery doesn't do it. I'm afraid to just start doing things and bricking this thing. Even though I was told by my cousin who has flashed many phone its very hard to hard brick a Samsung.

Yes it should boot fine. The sd just holds your junk and possible some config info for some apps.

Ok, I'm just going to boot into CWM, Reformat, and Reboot. Hopefully everything goes well.
I'll get back to this topic to tell you how it went.
Ok, reformatting from CWM, then rebooting worked perfectly!
Going on to JB now, thanks for the help everyone.

After reformatting, the rom was still installed right? but all your apps and clutter was gone?
Just curious cause I also did data/factory reset from cwm and all it did was delete the rom and apps but all the stuff left over from the apps and music/photos/videos were still there.

Hey buddy they're talking a little different then just data reset. To erase all that other stuff go into cwm under mounts and storage and click format internal SD card. The ROM will still work but it will erase everything on your internal memory so if you have pictures you want back then up

In all honesty I'm not sure if it will erase settings as well. I don't believe it will but some app settings are stored on the SD card so you may have to sign back into some things.
If you choose to factory reset at the same time then yes you will have to reset everything up.
One thing to keep in mind if you make your backups without selecting external SD card they will ask be erased so you will have no backups
If I helped you in some way.... pass on the favor and help the next person!

Quick question, I just went into cwm recover then mounts and storage and the options are
Format /cache
Format /system
Format /data
Format /preload
Format /sdcard
Would sdcard be the internal sd card?
It sounds like that wipes everything (rom and all) and not just internal sd?

You just want to wipe internal? if you want to be safe, take out your external sdcard, then do format /sdcard . This will wipe your internal sdcard.

Clear cache recovery mode won't work?

Hi
When I to wipe my cache in recovery mode (in the Samsung Galaxy-Q (same as the Samsung Gravity Smart))
And it took like half a second, so I figure that there that there's something wrong with it.
There's a picture attached to this page.
If you couldn't read the text, (I was using like a 2 megapixel camera), here's what the important part is:
-- Appling Multi-CSC --
-- Wiping cache...
Formatting CACHE:...
unmount(/cache) attempt 1 (Unknown error: 0) rc=0
Cache wipe complete
Is it because my phone is rooted? No, because I've tried unrooting my phone and trying. It didn't work.
But I think it's because my micro SD card is in it. If that's the problem, will after clearing cache delete my shortcuts?
Thanks for reading,
Drew

nope, just pull battery and reboot
Wow...I don't think it should be doing that. I guess I would just say try another reboot or go into recovery and wipe cache and dalvick cache, then reboot. If that doesn't work, you may have to reflash. I've never seen that problem before, sorry.

No, full wipe in recovery doesn't wipe photos or music or anything on internal or external SD card.
Edit: if you're really worried move everything to your external SD and then remove it when you flash a rom....but you honestly don't need to.

Hey all. Is there a way to recover deleted photos? I'm running Alliance ROM Build 22. I've been Googling like a mad man, but all the methods require enabling USB mass storage which isn't possible on 4.3. Is there any other way?
