I have the HTC Inspire running stock 2.3.3
I have searched, and tried everything, but nothing is working. I have tried both methods available though ace-hack-kit-v12.3. I have also tried Bubby's one click GUI, as well as simple one click, super one click, and gingerbreak for good measure, and yet nothing seems to work.
ace hack kit works
Ace hack kit doesn't achieve downgrade, it hangs at sending zip file, and then on the alternate root meathod it reboots without downgrading.

If you're using 12.3 and downgrade method two, there is a small typo in the script. There was a new version of the script posted that should get you back in business. You need to just download the new script and put it in the folder where the original was.
The below one worked for me:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=952352
I had the same problem as you allenrb2. I ran the Ace Hack Kit v12.3 and it would just freeze on step 2 when it is trying to install the zip file. To solve this problem, I just went on my other computer and ran the Ace Hack Kit from there. It went just fine no hanging at that zip file in step 2. So maybe doing it on a different computer will work for you, like it did for me.

The best radio is the one that works the best for you. Everyone has different experiences with radios depending on device, ROM, location. Best things to do. One go to the inspire radio thread and read what people have been using and experiment...flash a season and give it a couple days to see how it does then change if need be. OR secondly I would see if my ROM has a separate Q and A thread and go there for suggestions.

Thanks for the help guys, I flashed a radio, so I guess now I just give it a couple days to see if its all gravy now. I appreciate yous guys taking the time to help this noob out.
I recently switched from the Samsung Captivate, and everything seemed a lot easier with that phone.

You need to read mudknot's stickied guide front to back several times. The best advice anyone can give you on it is read, read, read, and read some more. The process is not complicated, but is not easy by no means. It will happen if you read, be patient, don't rush, and follow the steps precisely.

Everyone is correct. Reading first will help things go a lot smoother. I would recommend attn1 hack kit. You have a lot of roms to choose from. Just take your time. If you really get stuck or don't understand then ask.

Root password?
Im trying to follow the Ace Hack Kit (v11), but when I try to run the hack-ace.sh code, it asks me for the root password, which I don't know and can;t find anywhere online. I feel like an idiot for asking, but what is it? Ive been searching for hours.
Im running OS X 10.6.6, and the phone is Kernel version 2.6.32.21-g6a5ff14 [email protected] #1, if that helps at all.
Im new to rooting, Ive been a Jailbreaker until I just switched to Android. I understand everything in the hack guide, just cant get past the simplest step it feels like. Someone help me out?
And sorry for putting this on someone else's thread... it wouldnt let me post an original for some reason.

Lol. Man the keyboard really had it in for you on that one.
I like "blowy" though. It's a refreshing change.
I have had two inspires and on my first one I used Bubby's rooting program only because it did not require the use of command prompt as much as the Hack kit did at the time, but on my second inspire I used the hack kit because that has truly been turned into a fool proof way of rooting and it seem's that bubby has abandoned his rooting program because it has not been updated for sometime. The hack kit does it all for you all you have to do is tell it what you want done by entering either a 1,2 or a 3 and it does the rest.
As for rom's I use the Coredroid because it is closer to the HTC stock sense and Surgio keeps up on the updates and the bugs also.
I'm on my first Android with the Inspire and rooted a few days ago using the hack kit... it was very simple and all went well. I've gone through a few roms already, probably didn't give each enough time but wanted to find something I liked and now ended up with GingerBeast. There is a problem with GPS though with Gingerbread but if you look for gingerbread gps fix it can be taken care of easily.
You should give each rom at least a week to see how it works, there is a wierd thing with rom's they need a couple of days to settle in to the phone and to see how the battery and everything else work with that certain rom, that is why I have chosen one rom and have stuck with it through two inspires, I have found coredroid to be the best rom for my purposes and none other fit the bill.
I am also new to Rooting of my inspire, but not a noob to android by anymeans. I searched and searched through and through the thread with the simple one click root. I understand what it is that i need to do.
But for the life of me, i cannot get the simple one click root application to download and install on my computer. I have my antivirus and all off, firewall turned off. I download the file, it starts extracting and unziping. Then it goes to installation. The green bar at the bottom gets up to about 90% full, then the entire screen just closes by itself and thats it.
Restarted my computer 4 times and tried it again 4 times last night with the same results. SO i guess my question is not going to be how to root, i think i got a grasp on that one, but can someone point me in the direction of a different link for the one click app or lend some advice of how i can get it installed.

I had the same problem with my old XP laptop. I studied for a month, was sure I had my PC set up correctly. And Bubby's just would not run on my PC. Ended up using the hack kit which worked. One thing they do say to make sure you have the latest .FrameworkNet and Java consoles installed, for something to check.
Thanks for the response. It is appreciated. I did do those updates amd still no luck. Guess its the hack kit for me.

if you use the Ace_toolkit, are you able to run different ROM's such as CM7? because this is almost exactly what i've been looking for! none of the programming stuff haha
After you run the kit you are rooted, so you can download any rom and use that.
After rootIng my phone I tried alot of different ones and settled on ninjas rom. Others chose other ones.

Hi there. I'm relatively new to Android, and i want to root my HTC Inspire. But i want to make sure i don't brick it or anything, so I've got a few questions about the hack kit.
1. the hack kit says i have to go to this specific gold card generating site, but the site has been down for a couple of days. I've found a program that would generate the goldcard for me, and its standalone from the web. would that be able to work?
2. when i read the manual, it says i have to install the stock ATT Radio, and gives me the path to a file, but i have no idea where to get the zip. In fact, i don't understand any of the option menu steps. could someone please help with that?
3. can somebody please give me to the link to a stable CM7 file, because i cant seem to find one...
4. there wouldn't happen to be a stable one click program that will do all this (perma-root, s-off, goldcard, everything) would there? Because that would make my day!

1) you can try it. Somebody in the dhd section making gold cards with a similar tool.
2.you don't have to install the att radio though I would. It is already included in the hack kit you just have to run the optional menu. For other radios go to the radio thread in the Dev section.
3. Just install a nightly they are pretty stable at least for me. I recommend ninja as its based on cm7
4.no, but attn1 hack kit is really easy. It looks and sounds more daunting than it is. Its more like a 5click.

A radio not just specifically the att radio is what is used to pick up your signal for voice and data. During the rooting process we get downgraded inorder to gain soff. And applying the att radio gets you back to what we originally had. Though now their are newer radios for att. Radios depend on a lot of things what might work for me might now for you even if we are right next to each other. But generally any att radio should be good, but its not an exact science.
Nightlies are as the name implies nightly builds of cm7. Its Constantly being worked on that it changes so its not deemed stable. But for me and others it works fine as a daily driver

While I'm seeing an influx of new comers to the MyTouch4G section, most likely due to newer phones coming out and picking these up cheap.
I'd like to remind you of a couple of things prior to just jumping in and rooting your phone.
Disclaimer: i am not a mod or an admin, just a humble "helper outer"
First Things First.Rooting one's phone is not to be taken lightly. When you root your phone to are basically giving your self SU access to the /system files of your phone. While this allows for GREAT expansion of the devices capabilities, you need to under stand that it can also brick your device in a heart beat. I know a guy who lives in St.Louis who said all he did was flash a custom font, via an application, on his rooted droid 2 and it bricked. You need to read, and understand what you are getting into. Because when the rubber meets the road you are the only one who can save your phone.
Secondly and just as important as anything else else.please install the ADB drivers at a minimum. TrueBlue_Drew has put together a very simple walk-through with video for this http://bit.ly/q7MP9t. Please take the time to learn the basic commands and what they do.
Third, and this can prevent some headaches down the roadplease go and check which eMMC chipset you have. Our phones where made in two different places, and have two different Chip set serial numbers. One of them is problematic and one of them is pretty safe. Please take time to verify which chipset you have prior to flashing anything. And yes it can be done without root access [http://bit.ly/y2zmdr]. Please see this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=858996
Fourth, and this is where the rubbers meets the road. A)
You need to decide which root method is for you. There are two different proven methods out there. One is known as the root.sh method. This is the simplest method. the long and short of it is this. You download a packet, extract a folder to your SD Cards root directory. Then you download, install and run a program called VISIONary. after you do that you enter a simple command or two to run the script in the extracted folder. you can find that method here root.sh method now this method will work to turn your phone into a rooted s-off phone. and is super easy i used this method to root my phone with s-off before i even left the T-Mobile store when i bought the devices. However it only turns off the security flags. IF you flash the PD15IMG to return to a stock fashion it will remove all SU rights.
B)
the second method is a bit more entailed but completely removes the security flags. IT's called ./gfree method. Now you need to be careful because this will root a phone with a bad eMMC chipset. Meaning it will be easier for you to brick your device. If that happens you own a 200-500 USD paper weight. And as of currently there is no sure fire way to recover from it. you can find more on that method here ./gfree rooting method.
c)
ONLY IF YOU HAVE THE STOCK 2.3.4 (GINGERBREAD) ROM
you must downgrade to 2.2.1 before you can root your phone.
Please see this link http://bit.ly/rugejM.
d)
if you do not know what you are doing i would advise against the OneClickRoot for rooting ANY phone. It's a simple path to enable someone with no knowledge to root their device.
We are glad you have chosen to make XDA your source for all of your hacker needs. But please take some time and read and study prior to doing anything. We'd hate to see you root and brick your phone because you over looked something.
the Q&A section is used for just that Questions and Answers
the Accessory section is for just that Accessories devoted to the HTC Glacier
the Development Section is just that a section where you can find ROMS, Kernels, hacker, and PC/Mac/Linux guides
the App section is just that a place for us to talk about add ons and applications
everything else falls under the general section.
hope you enjoy your stay here.
Finally, and i wanted to post this separately
please do not be afraid of the search button or Google. Chances are if you've encountered a problem, or have a question. Someone has already asked it, or solved it.
Please watch this

If it does go bad there is good chance you can exchange it just don't tell them anything about you rooted the phone. Great guide! It helped me with several questions I had, I was even able to check if I had a bad eMMC, I'm lucky I have the good one \o/
My phone came with 2.3.4, I really want to root to remove all the junk that comes preinstalled.
I have a question, if I used the root.sh method (which seems the safest), after downgrading of course. If I flash a rooted stock 2.3.4 ROM http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1264704
Would I loose my S-OFF? Also to install the ClockworkMod recovery, is it the same way as other phones? ex can I just install it using the ROM manager?
Also is it really necessary to flash the engineering bootloader?
thanks for this great tutorial!

Once you have s-off, you will keep s-off until you manually turn it to s-on. So to answer your question.
No if you flash the rooted 2.3.4 of the stock OS you will keep s-off.
Yes you can flash it via the recovery image, without any problems. Just make sure to do a back up first.
It's not really needed, but encouraged as you can flash specific sections of the OS, or recovery image if needed.
Thank you very much for your help!
Everything went smoothly, now I'm in 2.3.4 rooted with bloat and ad free ^_^
The root.sh method didn't work for me though, but gfree worked like a charm (was kind of scared using it, but since I already checked my eMMC was good, I went ahead and worked perfectly!)

Have anyone here rooted and flashed the same phone I have?
What is "radio? Can I change it to another one? how can I tell if it will work with my carrier?

3. there is an entire thread dedicated to this very subject....look in the dev section.
there are easy to follow guides, tutorials, and walkthroughs here, but you have to READ...there is ZERO excuse for not reading and comprehending this stuff. if it is too much for you, you should NOT be doing any of it, and leave your phone stock

this question has come up several times in the last month. yes it works just fine
Hi, i just rotted the unit and everything was fine
So i decided to use, cyanogenmod, it installed
now i can make calls but it does not connect to the data network portion.
Any ideas?
I noticed the radio baseband is slighly different than the original. could it be?
Sorry. was quick. i entered the APN settings and it is now connecting.. just Edge....before (stock rom) i had "H" (guessing is 3G). Now it only connects to E (edge i assume).
The weird thing is that before whenever i was in an area with only edge It would not allow me to browse but now I can.
any idea jedi master?
you can try a different radio. look at the radio thread in the dev section
Sorry to bother you so much. I was able to solve the radio issue. Now, since the market app wasn't included i followed the guide on how to install gapps but after doing so i can't get pass the boot screen "touch the android to begin".
I try to wipe and reflash but still does not let me do it. Any ideas?
did you touch the android to begin?
Yes, sir. But it will still restart.
i try to wipe data and restart the process but same thing happens.
Tried taping the four corners and an still happening.
Someone said the the gapps file might be corrupted.

Does it have to be on ZIP? if so, where can i find stock roms?

no. this will leave you an unrooted stock rom
why dont you browse the dev forum here and look at all the ROM offerings?
I think i will just go with the stock one and the do the same procedure (using the hack kit and just leave it stock rooted....
would that be ok?
