So what are the chances of us getting support for AVI and MKV containers? Also I think we need some DivX and xvid support.
We have h264 support yet not xvid. We have mp4 yet not avi?
So do you think MS will ever add support or will it have to be 3rd party. Will it even be possible for us to get support for the above mentioned containers and codec's?
Thanks
i dont think ms will ever add support for these codecs and file extensions the only way is if somebody makes a homebrew app cuz i dont think that ms would approve of such app in the marketplace

Yea, I was thinking the same. Is there anything preventing someone from making a homebrew to provide us with support for the codec's and file containers? Or can I still hope that someone will make such an application?

He's asking for a player not a converter...
To be onest missing ac3 support on windows mobile is quite irritating! I haven't found a single program able to play ac3 audio on wm and that really sucks!

I've heard that TCPMP runs ac3 but I haven't got the player working on my Topaz, it just crashes or freezes when the video starts playing (I have tested ALOT of version, the updated ones for newer WM builds too).
It's sad that CorePlayer don't support ac3, and I don't know WHY they don't..
I just found this thread, a year old or three.. but I bet it's still valid.
There was some limited discussion of this in the previous forum. I don't believe there are any current plans to bring back AC-3, at least in the near future. Like AAC and AVC, which require licensing and royalties for inclusion, AC-3 would also have to be licensed (Dolby owns the patents), so it would increase the cost to us as users beyond the normal price points of a mobile app.

They are however "going" to implement ac3-support as a standalone library one can purchase. I read something about version "1.5.x" so I guess it's still a long time left until ac3-support is added again
Why do you need ac3 in a stereo phone?
if it was in a media center I would understand, but in a mobile.
you can convert the dvd or what ever format you amy have to a mobile format, and save space. if the mobile only has 480*800 why play a full hd clip on it, you're looosing space and speeed becaus the player has to reduce the image.
if you convert it you'll whatch it in stereo and optimized 4 the mobile resolution.

Unfortunately converting takes time and it's the year of 2009 with 32 gb sd cards ... I really think space it's not a problem anymore on mobile devices!
I love simplicity... Why would I ever want to convert something that I want to see on my device? No sir, I want to paste it from my pc and than watch it without doing anything else.
It is possible and I'll do this even if it costs me space (temporary, because I usually delete after I seen it) and more cpu/battery usage.
BTW, I haven't been able to run TCPMP on my Topaz since I got it. (In the best scenario it starts and freezes when any video is loaded).
Hello everyone. I would like to see the footage shot by my camera (Panasonic TM700) directly on the TF in order to get a larger preview of that offered by the display of the camera. The problem is that I have not found any player that would display the correct file type MTS shot in 1080/50p. I think this isn't a problem of processor (I have a media player with a sigma 800mhz and movies run fine), but a problem of proper codec ....... Do I have some hope that there is a codec for the development of this TF?
Maybe you could contact the developers of those video applications? Does ffmpeg read those files (does mplayer?) - if so, it should be easily doable. Does VLC read those files? There is supposed to be a version of VLC for Android one day but no one know when. Also keep in mind that decoding on your media player could be hardware accelerated and idependend of the processor while TF has to use software decoding.
MTS is part of the AVCHD video format.
I'm not sure if moboplayer will play this, and even if it does,
i doubt it will be without stuttering like crazy, but thats pretty much dependant
on the bitrate of your MTS files.
you could try to remux the audio and video streams from the MTS to an MP4 container or an mkv even.
Google for MTS2MP4 which might be of help.
Try XenonMKV or GOTSent for any mkv remuxing.
Or reencode the whole thing alltogether (which you are likely trying to avoid)
goodluck
Android 3.0+ supports mpeg transport streams with AAC audio only...
The native media player object of Android (hardware accelerated) does _not_ even play fluidly TS files. So you're out of luck for out-of-the-box playback.
I use Handbrake to reencode to MP4 container with AAC audio. Works fine on my TF, but a lot has to be lost in terms of quality to make it playable. Search the forums for the Handbrake 3.1 guide.
any news about an app that can play MTS files?

its an Mkv right??
if im not wrong you can use some mkv player, but those are also hard to get
With new ICS update, android devices with 4.0+ OS version will support MKV natively. Does it mean all MKV profiles will be supported?
Thanks in advance for your help.
MKV is a container format containing audio and video, not an audio or video format per se.
(let's say it's like a .zip file for multimedia, even if technically the comparison is wrong)
What you're referring to is the video codec H.264.
And I truly hope it will support every profile.
Though the problem with Honeycomb not supporting high profiles was hardware and not software (Tegra 2 CPUs don't support high profile H.264 videos)

Thanks aavan,
I did not know much about MKV codec. I was just hoping that with MKV support and 2D native hardware acceleration, we can smoothly navigate around and play full 1080p HD videos.
That depends entirely on your hardware capability as aavan advised. If your hardware is capable then a software update will allow it but if it doesn't it won't. Imagine a DVD drive, no amount of software updates will allow it to play Blu-Ray unless it has the hardware capability to do so
Thanks man. I appreciate your input. Lol sorry for late reply.
I wanna have some opinion on this matter as we all know wp8 doesn't support mkv, yet.
So any good suggestion for it is welcomed.

Most of the times I just rename the MKV files to MP4 and it just works, at-least with my Samsung TV.
MediaCoder is my favorite one, but it could be too complicated for certain users. If you don't need ass sub encoding feature, you should try FreeMake Video Converter - great tool for your needs
Quick question: What types of video files will this actually stream? I know that MKV will never work, but I had assumed that MP4 would. I am guessing that there is also a codec requirement, and not just a container one, but am not really an expert at DNLA so some help would be appreciated.
I know, I should just buy Serviio Pro, and I will, if I can't get this to work...
