I have the same phone got it in japan from a friend Xperia acro so-02c, and since NTT DOCOMO hasn't pushed the 4.0 upgrade and won't, i have been trying to find a way to upgrade for some time now, the ONLY way i have found so far after searching tons of forums (usually japanese) i have found only one way to flash a new verson of undroid and it worked, but i couldn't root it using the doomlord's toolkit (i could root it using doomlord while the phone was flashed with the original docomo ics .9).
This is the answer i found, since i have seen some other posts on this subject, decided to give you the whole other forum copy/paste.
The original was in vietnamese , hence the google translation of the post:
(I tryed this with a newer version of flashtool but it didnt work for some reason, though i am a tottal noob so that also might be the problem, but the 0.7.0 version worked like a charm)
Guide update sony ericson Arco from-02c to Ics 4.0 world Lt18i.
So-02C currently no official version of ICS 4.0. But I can guide you to update the So-02c on the ICS 4.0.3 version arc s Lt18i.
Please note, read the directions carefully before making, I tried on two machines. I do not take responsibility for these incidents occur during up room.
1-Preparing the
PC Companion
Generic Nordic ICS Xperia Arc S firmware ( LT18_4.1.A.0.562_NCB.ftf )
FlashTool 0.7.0.0 (FlashTool 0.6. 9.1, update.zip)
SO-02C_4.0.1.C.1.9_docomo.ftf
Machine Xperia acro Compared-02c
Cable USB
2-Conduct
+ Install Pc Companion
+ Unzip Flashtoot 0.7.0.0, run the file to install FlashTool- 0.6.9.1-Windows.exe. Unzip the update.zip file, overwriting the entire new data extract the folder install of flashtool, usually in the path C: \ Flashtool
+ Copy 2 LT18_4.1.A.0.562_NCB.ftf files vĂ SO -02C_4.0.1.C.1.9_docomo.ftf on the folder C: \ Flashtool \ firmwares
+ In C: \ Flashtool run file flashtool.exe (win 32) or flashtool64.exe (win 64).
Flashtool will confirm the version has been updated to ver 0.7.0.0
Click Flash (lightning bolt icon), select Flashmode
Select LT18i 4.1.A.0.562 GenericNCB. Built choose three items: wipe user data, wipe cache, no final verification check as shown. Press ok.
Table inform
you turn off the power over-02c go, wait about 10 seconds. Hold the back button. Then start cable plug. Flash will start the process, you do not hold back anymore, flashtool run until the message appears as shown below
Disconnect the cable from the so-02c, but not turn on the light.
continue to select Flash as a first, and then select SO-02C 4.0.1.C.1.9 DOCOMO. Built select 2 items Exclude system, Exclude Kenel as shown below
Click ok, and then continue to do the above steps until Flash is finished.
Unplug the cable out, turn on, thrill to phone waiting for, for a long time, do not panic. And this is the result ^ ^
So-02c ran Ics 4.0 of the Lt18i
Note: Some features will not be used but no problem
+ Infrared
+ SEG (Japanese TV)
+ Felica (in Japan nodules)
Overall this is a very worthwhile upgrade, Ram released quite a lot, carefree setting.
Worked like a charm.
now running 4.0.3 android .562 firmware but cant root it using doomlord's toolkit so if anyone has got a workaround for this, I'd be more than gratefull..
EDIT managed to root it using the doomlords xperia 2011 toolkit...

Which command do you use to list all connected devices?
If you want to do it using "adb devices" you should turn on USB Debugging in Settings -> Development.

On my computer I have "Android composite ADB Interface" in Computer->System settings->Device Manager when my GS202 is connected by USB. Do you have such one?
Also this problem might not be directly connected to GS202. It's more like general Android connection problem and there is a lot of troubleshooting around in Google.
But if you need this to be solved right, you'd better create a new thread, with description of everything what have you done, how it behaves and what is your final aim. And please, don't get me wrong, but pay a little more attention to your English in posts, because it is very difficult to understand.

Ok, j finally got it installed. This is what j do, thnx to konchunas post j had an idea what was the problem....
J download Java Platform (JDK) 7u17 and insatall.
Then j download adt-bundle-windows-x86_64-20130219.zip and install it.
Next step was to open sdk manager, but it wouldnt open, it constantly crashed. Then j read that j need to setup enviroment variables but j didnt.
J downloaded Download Java for Windows and install it. Then j restart computer and when system was ready j run sdk manager whit no problems.
Then j install google usb drivers from sdk manager. Reconect my gsmart gs 202 and instalation was successful. Only strange thing is that device manager see my portable device as signal75_ics but in devices and printers j have both, gsmart gs202+ and signal75_ics...
J hope this will help someone as konchunas helped me to understand where to start solving my problem.
Now when j type command stuff\adb devices it list 0123456789ABCDEF device, is that ok or not???

Hi i am a newbie and i am really noob , i am having problems on unlocking bootloader for my arc s after i unzip the fast boot i dont know hw to place the file ; i dont know what is about in this procedure -> . Make sure you are running Google USB Driver package revision 4 or higher in your Android SDK. You can see current Google USB Driver package revision in the SDK Manager.
Place the unzipped file in the usb_driver folder, located in the Android SDK > extras > google folder on your computer. Accept to replace the old android_winusb.inf-file with the new file. If you can't find the usb_driver folder, please install the Google USB Driver Packager using the Android SDK manager.
For this you will have to install Android sdk software package or adt bundle on ur pc.
After installing u can find that folder specified.
Sorry, the information was not clear about what u did, whether u installed it already or not. I replied considering u to be a complete noob.
If there is no such folder after installation as said u ll have to manually install the google usb drivers which are of most importance through sdk manager which is inbuilt in the android sdk.
All the best

I've installed NXT kernel and Xperia Ultimate HD 5 on my Neo L.
Almost everything works fine, response is quickly and smooth, however, I have two questions:
1. In my PC Companion, the device name changes to Xperia PLAY. I know the rom is originally for PLAY, but I've installed Neo L patch, doesn't it corrected the device name?
2. I'm unable to access to service menu via entering *#*#7378423#*#* in dialer, it behaves just like nothing happens.
I recently switched from xperia m to xperia l. I had no problem with xperia m but sonce i got xperia l, i cannot copy files from my pc to the phone. When i try to copy files, they get corrupted and i cannot open any files. But when i use a sdcard reader rather than the phone itself, there is no problem. I used both MSC and MTP modes. The MTP mode gives "devices has stopped responding" error and MSC corrupts any files. What could cause the problems?

Hi guys.
Today I downloaded and installed Flashtool (0.9.19.10). I then browsed to C:/Flashtool and here there is no Firmware folder, therefore I cannot add the FTF for flashing. All I see is:
customer (folder)
drivers (folder)
x10flasher_lib (folder)
FlashTool
FlashTool64
stdout
uninstall
x10flasher
Where is the Firmware folder? Am I missing something? Could my Anti-Virus be deleting the Firmware folder?
I see a link for Patch (0.9.19.10). Do I need to install this patch? If so, how do I install it?
I need to downgrade my current firmware build, so that I can root my Sony Xperia Z3, in order to enable USB ports, amongst other tweaks I want to do.
Apologies if my question has been asked, however I have searched the net, and could not find an answer.
Also, I have read that there may be driver issues, once I get passed this current problem. Therefore, I am pre-empting by asking for instructions on how to install the correct drivers for Sony Xperia Z3.
Phone: Sony Xperia Z3
PC: HP Elitebook 6930p
Operating System: Windows 10
Your advice is appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

1. Yes you have to copy/ replace the old firmware (x10flasher_lib) with Patch (0.9.19.10)
2 The firmware folder is in C:/users/"comp. name"/.flash tool/firmwares----- the ftf file is to be placed there.
3 Good news: you don't have to downgrade now, the latest (NewKingrootV4.80) will root the phone in lollipop 5.1.1 (tried and tested).

Kingoroot also copies and sends your imei number to somewhere in China.
Thanks guys for your valuable advice.
Ideally, I would like to use the NewKingRoot application method. However, this leads to the obvious question - What is the safest way to root my device, Downgrading firmware with Flashtool or using NewKingroot application?
Are there any other 'safe' root applications that can be used for Sony Xperia Z3?
Appreciate your help guys.

Your best bet is to go to kitkat, use giefroot rooting tool, use xz dual recovery tool, then flash a Rom with root and recovery or create a pre rooted ftf with Flashtool/xperifirm. Theres tons of guides around to help you.
Brilliant.
Thanks guys for your advice.
Will be looking at KitKat and Giefroot, although Kingroot is tempting.
A noob question - "What is the purpose of the xz dual recovery tool?"
I was under the impression that all that was needed is the rooted firmware flashed using flashtool.
Are these the steps i need to follow: (please correct me if i am wrong)
Download a rootable firmware D6603_23.0.A.2.93
Flash this firmware using Flashtool
Run Giefroot to root my Xperia Z3
Cheers.

You cannot flash a rooted firmware with flashtool..
The recovery is what you use to flash pre-rooted firmwares in the form a .zip file.
Before you use kingroot you should do your research. During the process it will send your IMEI number to an ip address in china.
I suggest flashing a KK FTF with flashtool, root using giefroot, install recovery then flash any pre-rooted firmware you want in recovery.

Really appreciate the info and links guys.
Unfortunately I am not able to get past the driver Flashtool driver installation.
I select Flashmode Drivers, Fastboot Driver and Xperia Z3 Device Driver, then select install.
I then get the red ticks next to Sony Net, Google Inc, Sony Ericsson.
Bear in mind, my PC is on Windows 10. Is Windows 10 supported for Flashtool? Do I have to deactivate something in Win10, like in Win8?
This is so frustrating!
Please help!

Now I've got a new problem.
All I am trying to do is enable to HS-USB ports (diag, serial, modem) on the Windows 10 machine, so that I can ADB into my Sony Xperia Z3.

I downloaded the Z3 drivers from http://developer.sonymobile.com/downloads/drivers/xperia-z3-driver/
In Device Manager I right clicked on the first D6603 entry and pointed to the Z3 drivers and tried to install the driver but it is not recognised? This happens with the other D6603 entries too. I know I am doing something stupidly wrong here.
Where do I go from here? This is really frustrating.
I also installed Sony PC Companion but that has not helped.
Once again, I am asking for any help to fix this seemingly simple (difficult for me) task.
Thanks in advance.
Hi guys.
This is so frustrating.
I have stumbled across another problem. On Windows 10 device manager, I can see several entries of D6603 each with an exclamation mark. I guess this is because of Z3 (D6603) drivers?? Well, I downloaded Z3 drivers from the Sony developers site, however the drivers are not recognised??
I need to activate the HS-USB ports so that I can ADB. Am I using the correct drivers?
Does anyone know, how I can overcome this please?
Also, is there a particular place win Windows, where you have to extract the Z3 drivers to, like System32?
After reading on the net, I may have to do the following:
adb devices
adb shell
su
/system/bin/port-bridge /dev/smd0 /dev/ttyGS0 & setprop persist.usb.eng 1
And this should start the automatic usb driver installation on Windows?? Can anyone confirm this is the correct procedure?
Thanks in advance.
I too am running Windows 10. You have to go into recovery - advanced - startup and select "disable signed driver check" (or something like that) then you can install drivers etc.
The firmware folder is now under (users - username - flashtool)
If you use xperifirm the ftf file creations will automatically go to the right location

Hi gwithrow.
Thanks for your advice.
I went into recovery on my pc and selected "Disable signed driver.........", However, still when I connect my Xperia Z3, there is no automatic driver prompt or installation??
So I decided to start again today:
Downloaded and flashed firmware version 23.0.A.2.93 for D6603.
Ticked the following - USB debugging, Allow mock locations and Unknown sources.
Unticked Verify apps.
Downloaded giefroot tool v3.1.
Rooted Xperia Z3 successfully.
Downloaded ES file explorer and mount /system rw successfully.
Downloaded z3 Dualrecovery and installed ndr utils successfully, Xperia Z3 rebooted to twrp.
(Should I upgrade now to D6603_23.4.A.1.200_Generic-UK_dualrecovery2.8.21_SuperSU-v2.46.zip and install with twrp?)
Using USB cable, I connected Xperia Z3 to my pc and still no driver prompt or automatic installation??
All I want to do is activate the HS-USB Android Diag/Serial ports.
Is there another way to do this??
Am I missing something?
I downloaded the drivers from the Sony and Google sites. However, the drivers are of no use if the PC does not prompt for them!
Any help would be appreciated.
