Alright so, i rooted my phone using superoneclick method. I want to flash Smooth Maximus ROM GingerClone v1 onto my phone, i know i need CWM but i cant seem to install it. I tried following this guide :http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1124453 , but android commander tells me my phone isnt rooted. What now? Thank to anyone who attempts to help me.
Android Commander has a known issue with recognizing the SK4G root method.
Follow the same instructions, but use something like ES File Explorer to push the recovery from your SD card to /system/bin instead.
exactly what my post was on http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1236567&page=2

if you download gingerbreak apk. it'll root the phone for you and install su
ur fix
what youu guys need to do in simple form! download android injector. this will allow you to send apk. files to ur phone. next download gingerbreak-v1.20 apk. send to phone via injector then run app and you'll get a prompt to install xbin.go down to install on sys/bin first then do the xbin and your good. also i advise that you use a high cappacity mem card so you dont have to transfer in the furture. garenteed to work im running my opti s rooted.
Gonna try this on my wife's optimus and see what happens.
Okay so I have a g2x on 2.3.3 and I have tried to root it by superoneclick and also putting the os (gingerbread) into my phone and tried to root it but both dont work. Of course almost anything i try to do i need to get my phone rooted like busybox or rommanager (installing clockworkMod). Also, now when I go into the terminal emulator and type in su it comes out permission denied. Is there anyway that I can root my phone or do i have to do a total factory reset on it? Any help would be appreciated.
All you do is install clockworkmod then pick a ROM that is pre-rooted LIke xboarders stock ota then flash it. Most ROMS are pre rooted and it really is that easy. A quick search of this forum will help you. if you cant find it on your own let me know and I will post links for you.
Charlie
if you could post some link that would be great!
thanks!
Okay first you are going to install clockworkmod http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1056847
Next you need to choose a ROM from the developers section of this fourm I assume you can find that. I used xboarders stock ota which is completly stock but with root so you will have the newest baseband and be completly stock as far as the rom and have root here is the link to his page http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1179748
After you install CWM you will boot into recovery by holding volume down and power while the phone is off remember to hold it till you see the little android or the CWM screen.
The next thing you should do is make a backup you dont have to but it is good pratice to do it always.
Now you are ready to flash away. Install the xboarders rom onto your ext sd card or internal just remember where you put it. Say flash from sd card and find the file and flash it.
reboot and now you are rooted oh and when you flash CWM you will have a choice of internal or external sd card I used the external so that is where I put all my roms that I want to use if you choose intewrnal that is where you put your files I would use the external because you can put as big a card in there as you want but it is your choice. Good luck and if you needd help just ask and post back and let me know how you make out

Okay so Im in the clockworkmod recovery and trying to install the "tweaked" version of gingerbread using this page http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1158513 and it makes me go through all the files but im not sure which one to install
so you put the files on your sd card right? you install the file called P999_2.3.3_Stock_Tweaked_v1.2.2 it should be the first one that you downloaded. All the other files are add ons and what not. to make things eaiser make a folder called ROMS or files to install whatever just know what you call it and put the first file in there then when you are in CWM go to that folder and install the only file in the folder. worry about the other stuff later when you get comfortable with CWM. You odviusly know what you are doing because the hardest part was flashing CWM and you did that without a problem.

I got a friend at work that wants me to mod his Triumph. I was able to root it using gingerbreak.apk but I can't get wireless tether to work. He also would like a theme. Soooo....
Do I need a computer to put CWM on his phone? I read that all you do is replace something in the folder of the recovery.
So, could I use root explorer to replace the recovery and reboot?
I really wanna put CM7 on his phone so he can use the theme chooser app and use themes off the market, sorry if I didn't search enough but its not my phone and I don't wanna spend much time with it.
Theoretically I should be able to have CM7 on there in 10min?
Thanks in advance for your help!!

You access the folder with the recovery.img in download mode. So you need a computer to do that.
I wrote a guide with step by step instructions over at androidforums.com in the all things root section for the Triumph. I would recommend that you check that out.

Not sure what you mean you couldn't get it to work. The guide is for all the KJ6 One-Clicks. Either way glad you are up and running. You are now on stock. Follow the first link in my signature - where applicable - to get to a custom ROM. No app will do this for you. And you know now NEVER use ROM Manager on this phone.

How/When did you do the back up. The guide I pointed you to - Heimdall One-Click For Dummies - doesn't reference a back up. Also, I assume your music was saved to your sd card. Are you sure it is not still on your sd card?
i used the first guide that u to me to use i download cwm5+voodoo lagfix, valhalla-black and i love it so far and now im bout to flash thunderbolt v2.77 i had valhalla-final but like v-black just cause i love colors on disrespect so once again thank you
cant find sdcard in file and it keeps soft reboot on lock screen and once again im very happy for your help

The soft reboot is likely because you need to go in settings - tweaks - lockscreens and select a custom app.
Maybe connect your phone or sd card to your computer and look on it to see if your music is still there. I don't use stock file manager (use might download a root explorer like Super Manager from tbe market), but if you open it you are likely opening directly into the root of your sd card. Maybe explain that issue more and I can try and help.
Also, there is a VB Q & A thread that you may browse as it has a ton of answers to issues people have had.
Hey all! Glad to be apart of the sidekick 4g xda community. i just recently got a SK4G from ebay for 45.99. Works flawlessly. (after a return of a 70$ one that wi-fi didn't work - which ima use groove ip lite to call for free w/my GV number, text with GV app)
So I'm trying to flash CWM recovery to flash custom roms. Here is where I am stuck at:
I'm on the Kv1 stock firmware
I am also rooted
I moved the recovery file to system/bin
i am in a pickle trying to figure out how to install the recovery.zip within the 400mb-ish all-in-one pack i got from an awesome member who compiled it and uploaded it through dropbox
do i flash with odin? does mobile odin work for this device?
i'm trying to navigate it /internal_sd/ the root file so that when i reboot to the system recovery it will flash the voodoo CWM.
but i cant find /internal_sd/ with root explorer. should try es strongs? or just regular odin?
tl;dr - this is exactly where i am stuck
whats the best recovery without having to deal with the mounts?
kinda annoying but after i find a rom i like i dont plan to flash a lot, but would like to try a few roms to find my liking.
what is your fav set up? as in
-whats your fav rom?
-whats your fav kernel?
-whats your fav modem?
any extra advice and everything will be appeciated

Welcome. I personally use the red CWM recovery and the Glorious Overdose series of ROMs. I had been using TLS' G.O. v3.2 Bulky until I recently decided to go back to G.O. v1 and flash a few newer things onto it. So, my phone is a franken-phone right now, but it works well.
awesome thanks! currently i am having trouble getting into CWM recovery - orange text. i mount system, backed up recovery, overwrote recovery, placed update.zip at the root of microSD, then used quick reboot to go into recover and i get a csc error thing. something about e signature verification failed. i am rooted, usb debugging, and using a 32microHCSD. heard that i might have to use a non - HDSD? i have a normal 2gb one to try. any ideas on what i may be doing wrong?

How are you going about overwriting the recovery file? One thing that took me a while to do on mine was that I had to mount the internal storage as read/write in order for the recovery file to be really overwritten. You'll need a file explorer such as ghost commander (free on Google Play) that can do that. The other thing is maybe the recovery file you have is bad. I don't think so, but you never know. You could also try holding down the volume buttons and the power key when the phone is off to get into recovery.

I could not for the life of me get Ghost Commander to overwrite the recovery file, although it otherwise looks like a solid, clean app. I tried Root Browser and it worked perfectly. Most likely it was user error, whatever the issue with GC was but in case it does that to you there's another app that might do the job.

Please remember this phone has issues with rooting (may be a problem with flashing new roms
The locations
/system/bin
/sdcard/
I stick with ric's nexus jb rom for many reasons it runs smoother then glorious overdose v5 an v4 (v5 is great an v4 is great as well but not for me personally)
Cwm red voodoo is stock with most roms but you need yellow to flash
Kj2 newer is ussually better
(Gb kills keyboard right now so if you want gb you give up keyboard for awhile)
If you have issues you should go stright into them (I don't like reading >.< ill try to help like I have been an I'm sure any user will be glad to help (we need the community strength)
P.s. root browser works flawlessly
Most explores need you to be rooted ill post another file explorer in a bit
If you need the file ill upload each one with a readme txt file (if that's allowed) doubt its not c:
if I can't upload the files you can go into android development an go to sticks or you can go to the ref of mine on buttom of the page

... edit: read 3rd-5th reply
If you get error the best thing to do is odin to kg2 or kd1 (recommend kg2 as its simple [r] to use )
Then re root an it should fix issues overwrite the recovery in system bin .. then you can pull battery put back in hold volume an power for 4-5 secounds should boot into recover (download mode pull batter hold track pad an power for 4-5 sec)
