What's the latest ROM available through kies mini - T-mobile?
With a custom rom (or stock gb), it's not possible to check because the phone is not recognized by kies. That's why I'm asking..
Is it kd1 still?
thanks.
my rooted stock rom shows T959VUVKD1 so I am guessing yes.
The "newest" is still KD1. All of these GB builds were leaks, although one of them was actually available on Kies. It was taken down very quickly though.

My AT&T Captivate is alright using the Odin 2.2 for galaxy S update, but it has bugs because I'm pretty sure the one released was pre-release.
is there any way to flash the rogers 2.2 update on? Does anyone have it? I'm in Canada, and sim unlocked. I tried to use kies and it says unsupported device...

Is there any one click flashes for cognition or firefly? I still haven't been able to get my clockwork working even though I rooted this JI6 os, or figure out how to use these zip files. I would prefer something that works with Odin or something like it if possible. (where is the link to the latest Odin? I did a seach for odin and got about 900 results and couldn't find it).
Ok...so I've got some family members getting the Charge sometime this week & I needed some clarification on the different Android releases, kernels, etc.
I've looked through XDA, RootzWiki & MyDroidWorld but haven't seen anything clarifying the following terms:
- Odin
- Odin3
- ED1
- ED2
- EE4
- GBE
- EP1F
- EP1H
- EP1Q
I'm fairly seasoned with my Droid X (i.e. flashing ROMs, SBF restoring, etc.) & with my wife's Droid Incredible...but I've never messed with a Samsung phone before.
From what I can gather, there is no "official" build of GB (i.e. not a leak) for the Charge but there are kernels, radios & modems. I'd like to get the phones as close to stock AOSP as possible...so any suggestions?

Odin and Odin3 are the same thing-it is what we use to flash ROMs and kernels, etc. (When we don't use CWM)
ED1-Original rom on the Charge. When you first start the phone, this is what it'll be running, then it will ask you take an OTA update to EE4. Both are Froyo. ED2 doesn't exist. GBE- GingerBread Edition. Gingerbread...you know. EP1F/H/Q-GB internal version codes. They are all leaks, EP1Q is the latest. If you have any more questions just ask.

-Odin: We use that flash our recovery and certain ROMs onto the phone(most ROMs have a variant that you can flash in Clockwork Recovery however)
-Odin3: Just a different version of Odin, used for the same thing
-ED1: It's the original software version your phone runs. When you buy the Charge it should be on ED1.
- ED2: Just another software version.
- EE4: The latest official software version, this is what most ROMs/kernels are made for.
- GBE: Gingerbread Edition, certain ROMs(like Eclipse/Gummycharged) have a "Gingerbread Edition" of their Froyo ROMs.
- EP1F: A gingerbread leak
- EP1H: Another gingerbread leak
- EP1Q: The current latest gingerbread leak
edit: Damnit kvswim....
Has there been any announcement (leak or official) on when GB will be coming to the Charge officially?
What about kernel source? I'm assuming since GB hasn't been released that there is only (at the very most) a leaked GB kernel (if at all.)
There's a Froyo kernel source(obviously since we have 3 kernels) but there's no source for the GB leaks. There are still kernels however(Nameless being the most popular), I have no clue how they did it. I forget the phone but there were GB leaks for it and it took 3 months from the first GB leak for them to get an official OTA. Since there's no official word on GB even being developed(the leak is our only proof) we can just use that as a reference and hope it follows the same time frame(or sooner).
When I use mini kies it says my device is unregistered and I it won't let me update. How do I fix this?
1. Make sure you registered your device with Samsung
2. I think you have to be on KD1 for it to register; they look for official release versions (though I think a tweaked KD1 works fine)
I'm having the same issue but I haven't had a chance to try and flash back form GB to KD1.
Just wait for a dev to grab the ROM and put it here so you can flash it via Odin or CWM. I think Raver is on it.
I think mine is on Kc1 where can I get Kd1?
Upgrading from Deodexed KD1 works fine. (Has to be KD1). Here's the link:

I Odined mine back to KB5 last week. Then registered and got to KD1. Got KJ6 yesterday.
For me, Kies update fails on Win7x64, so I needed to do it on an XP machine. Others have said they don't have the problem with Win7. Another factoid I read was that the Kies update might fail if IE9 was installed
I odined the KD1 from here then flashed with mini, it works fine on win7 64 and internet exploder 9
You need to be at stock KD1 so Kies will recognize your phone and then download/apply the update.
i am selling my phone and want to flash back to stock for the new owner so they can get updates. Right now im running KK4. Can I Use odin One Click back to 2.1 then let Kies update to 2.2 with out bootloader problems? Will Odin or kies change my gingerbread bootloaders. I dont know much about rules of bootloaders. Any help would be greatly appreciated and repped.
Thanks
I highly doubt There will be updates...
Stick with kk4.
Or you could just flash a 2.2 package and skip the kies step. Bootloaders are backwards compatible. Ginger boots work with earlier versions of Android.
I want to make sure kies updates just in case AT&T releases gingerbread for the captivate. Also im having battery drain problems with kk4.
hardly anyone ever gets keis to work after custom roms, and if you want 2.2 the odin flash 2.2. why odin flash 2.1 then upgrade? dont make no sense!
and when gingerbread does get released, it will be ALL OVER THIS PLACE!!! new Odin flashes, new roms, new source, new kernels, new theads.... MINUTES AFTER RELEASE. Waaaayyyyyy before you would notice by randomly checking with keis....
xda.
not keis.
The point is to get this phone truly stock so who ever buys it can get ota or keis updates if there happen to be any in the future.

Search for Stock KB2 by Adam Outler.
I just did this when I had to replace my cappy (power button wouldn't respond half the time). I flashed back to 2.1 with the one click from DG then used kies to update to 2.2 with no problem.
I like to recommend kb2 now because a lot of refurbs and later builds came with that build. Also, trying to flash a Froyo shipped device with JF6 well cause a bootloop. So, as a blanket statement I say use KB2.
Hi,
I've got a friend who I helped upgrade from 2.3.5 to 4.0.4 on his i727r. He had his phone rooted with bloat deleted, so I restored the stock rogers 2.3.5 rom from sammobile using Odin with intentions of using Kies to grab the official upgrade to 4.0.4. Unfortunately his phone was low on battery so Kies wouldn't complete the upgrade in the time we had allotted, so we decided to do the 'unofficial' upgrade and flashed the rogers 4.0.4 rom downloaded from sammobile using Odin.
So, I'm wondering, as far as the process of upgrading using Odin compared to Kies, is there any reason why an upgrade through Kies would be more stable/ result in less FC's once he's on ICS? We didnt do a data wipe, so unless somehow Kies does that and then restores app data, I'm not sure what the difference between the two is.
He's had many FC's with TwLauncher and apparently his ram is out of control (I think that could just be a difference from GB to ICS). Anytime I have FC troubles with my TF101 or i9000.. its always a factory reset to fix it, but I was just wondering if somehow the Kies upgrade process would have taken care of that for people who just upgrade the samsung-intended way?
Thanks in advance!

There really shouldn't be any problem with using odin over kies method. I've always did my upgrade through odin every since i had my captivate and now for the skyrocket. Personally if i was him i would back up all the apps and data that he wants to save, then do a factory reset and see if that clears up the FC's. Also he should just try another launcher like Apex and see if that gives him any problems...plus its a way better launcher to begin with
I think it trips your flash counter, but there is a fix for that. Google Rogers skyrocket flash counter reset
