Help with captivate doesnt power on

I was trying to flash this rom http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=952588 i was in step 6 and clicked start but the blue bar wasnt moving for 20 minutes so i closed odin and removed my captivate battery and put it back and opened odin again an tried to boot into download mode but the phone never turn on.. if ANYONE have something that can help me please contact me as fast as posible

if it was step 6 then yes its bricked. you were flashing bootloaders at that time, thats where the only risk is and thats where it messed up. contact at&t or samsung, play dumb say some bs about trying to use kies and get a warranty replacement, or go to mobiletechvideos.com and he can jtag it for 50 u.s. dollars. only options...sorry man

sad but yes that was the only step that can brick ur phone.

boot into download mode was never the problem, the problem was in step 6 that the process stoped i dont know why

noone ever said your problem was getting into download mode?
Odin sometimes hangs,freezes,fails, or just decides to be a douche and not work properly. It's not guaranteed to work flawlessly 100% of the time. There is a chance of odin doing that everytime you use it, the only time you risk bricking is when it does that while flashing bootloaders. which that's all you were flashing in that step.

brick!!

I just brick my phone i get stuck on the boot screen try to do the update thru hboot but it seems that i deleted one of the files that would take me back to stock and ideas please. I downloaded a rom called dogma and soft brick my phone.

Pull the Battery ?
Can you get to recovery Bootloader ?
Did you flash a Desire radio ?

What file did you delete that you believe you might need? Were you trying to flash back to stock? A clearer picture of the process you were trying to perform would be helpful.

I get stuck on the boot loop screen. I pulled the battery out and press down button and power button, when i get to hboot it goes to do an update by itself, when it asks me if i want to update i click yes but but that still dont work. i cant get into recover mode either. im downloading ruu files now hopefully that would work unless i have to have the phone on. All i get when i get when i perform the battery pull out options is to get to the hboot screen but it would not let me scroll down to the recovery mode option, it seems that fast boot is on.

I'd try a stock RUU. from hboot . Format your sd card first to be safe .

Cal remove your SD card boot into hboot it will search for the file but can't find it then put your SD card back in and then click recovery

Do you have a PD98IMG file on the root of your SD card? If so, either use the trick of pulling the SD card posted above, or remove your SD card and if you have a card reader use a PC to delete the offending file, and then re-install your SD card and reboot.

Thanks guys RUU worked like a charm. It made me loose root but I just finish rooting the phone again. I think I deleted the stock image file that's what happen.

Me too . I don't think it is easy to hard brick this phone...speaking as one that has had many "brick" events with this thing...it is recoverable if it boots to any state at all it seems.

A brick is an expensive fried electronic device. I have't seen a bricked htc irl except when a friend of mine didnt rtfm and bricked his wizard in 2006. The only fix was jtag/not worth it.

Indeed. I always chuckle when I see posts, such as this one, titled "brick!!"
Distinguishing with "soft-brick" and "hard-brick" nowadays seems necessary due to such sloppy usage of the original term.

Bricked would mean a brick fell on your phone lol hi. There would be no way of fixing the phone.

I bricked my phone, htc inspire 4g 2.3.3 today for a friend of mine, not a soft brick either. I have rooted my htc thunderbolt without any problems but this phone was so easy to brick, when I hold down the volume button and power I can't recover the phone at all, I didn't make a backup either. Can anyone help? Does anyone have the original firmware or know how to solve this problem?

If you can get into hboot by holding volume down and pressing power follow this guide.

What did you do? If you truly can't get to hboot, then you are really bricked; hboot is necessary for anything else to load and run.
How did you manage this? If you have a late model Inspire (post Aug 2011) and tried to install an older hboot (from, say the Froyo RUU), or the ENG hboot, then it isn't damaged so much as just confused and will boot eventually (like 10-20 minutes) from which point you can get the right hboot back onto it.
Please elaborate.

How to unbrick Samsung droid Charge!!

Hey guys found a way to unbrick Samsung droid charge and revert back to stock.
1. Download and install Odin found here ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1085190 ) unzip and open
2.Download this file and unzip ( CI510_VZW_EE4_ALL_ONE-LTE-CP_REV03_user_CL1014954.tar.md5.7z) from here ( http://www.multiupload.com/6WJ2SFUKO6 ) or original thread where i found this file is from here ( http://androidflip.com/android-2-3-...are-on-samsung-droid-charge-installing-guide/ )..
In case it fails and it just keeps failing try this other file is not stock but it is 2.3.4 and it works great here is a link to find the file ( http://www.megaupload.com/?d=5PUB8UY7 ) and it also find a mirror download here ( https://rapidshare.com/#!download|9...ar.md5.7z|391371|RapidPro expired. (34fa3175) ) i tried it guys and it does work.
3. set phone to download mode, do this by taking battery of phone, plug phone into computer and hold Volume down, a Yellow triangle with a working android will appear.
4. Click on odin you will see your phone come up under ID:COM, now do not click on anywhere but on PDA thats where you will have to find the file you downloaded on step 2 and make sure is the unzipped file. once u find it, click on open then start.
5. Be patient this can take up some time, once is done the box will turn green and say pass, at this time your phone will no longer have the Yellow triangle and you can unplug and place the battery back in and turn phone on.. once again be patient when turning phone on it will take a little while to complete.
i tried this and it does work, my Droid charge was bricked and now it works.
Thanks to xda-developers where i was able to find odin and also thanks to androidflip.com where i was able to find the Droid Charge stock rom to flash it back using odin.
Hope this helped everyone needing help.

Thanks for posting this, but it isn't the end-all-be-all. I tried to recover from a bad flash using this method and it failed.
I got the error message seen in this post:

The method in that post failed to help me recover.
I finally found this method (which is linked much later on in the thread above):

and it worked perfectly for me.
So, if the first method from the OP fails, you have the Samsung PST flash utility that may help.

Yea i was also getting that message at first but it worked fine, but i also ended up installing the 2.3.4 so it worked out well.. was able to fix and unbrick my Droid charge.

We've known about this for a while, but thanks. There's a "How to fix your phone" thread in development which also includes a pit file you use in combination with that .md5
Also, you were probably just bootlooped, not bricked.

Thanks Guys for the input. I thought i was bricked, looked to me i was bricked... But i did this steps and was able to fix my droid charge... I did bot know there was a threath about this on here.. just trying to help people fix their phone if this can be helpful for them that's good.

look in the dev section for the 'Unbrickable Mod', theres a guy who'll do it for 40 bucks I think

I thought being bricked meant not being able to get into even Download Mode.

yeah but even then its not completely hopeless, there are USB jigs that can force it into download mode and this 'Unbrickable Mod' thing that requires tinkering with the internals which is supposedly fool proof

I've seen the term "bricked" thrown about a lot so I'm going to clarify some things.
First of all, there are two types of brick, a soft-brick and a hard-brick.
Soft-brick, that's what people often say when they have a boot-loop. This isn't a brick in the traditional sense. It's not really a brick, you can still recover it if you're at this stage. As long as you can get to the screen with the big yellow triangle you're not bricked at all and you can recover it.
Hard-brick, this is a true brick. This is what happens when the phone will not do anything. Won't show the Samsung logo, won't show the yellow triangle screen, won't do anything at all. At this stage, it might as well be a brick because you can't do anything to it. JTAG should be able to reload the bootloader and the base firmware.

well that's bootlooping not a soft brick, a soft brick would be when you flash something wrong or stop odin mid flash or flash something corrupted then get that little "phone --- ! --- pc" thing (done it twice myself) but yes it is recoverable
permabrick is indeed when it won't power on or do anything, it is a paperweight
hard brick is usually when it won't go into download mode but may still boot up or even go into recovery (probably just bootloops though), however as I mentioned in my last post none of these situations are completely hopeless

You're supposed to put in the battery for it to turn on....
But seriously, there's a thread for it in the dev section, but just hope you're good at soldering.

There always a way to unbrick the charge, it's all thru the development forum. I have had several android phones and have bricked all off them and recovered all them- htc incredible, htc wildfire, droid x and the charge

I tried everything battery in and out to get into download mode. Ended up finding a post somewhere and read that i should try a usb jig; which is why im guessing if you asked if i was good at soldering. To answer that question yes i am good at it. But i called verizon and they ended up sending me a replacement. Thanks for the guys who tried to help me out.

Stuck at intro screen. Bricked! Help!

OK so I used the CWM recovery to flash the GenericGinger2.0 ROM and since then my phone wouldn't boot up. My recovery became the red voodoo recovery i gues... and it kept saying cannot mount SD card when i try to recover the backup i created before all of this. then it finally let me go back to the orange CWM recovery. it tried to recover my backup, but froze. now I am stuck at the sidekick 4g screen that comes on when u start the phone. BRICKED. what the hell can I do?

Sorry, best bet is to odin, and reflash the original stock rom and kernal. No hope getting your recovery fully back. Did you check your mounts ??

shouldve checked my mounts before trying to root maybe did it wrong. But now I am stuck at splash screen, when I try to boot recover via vol - + and power, nothing. i try to boot into download mode so I can try ODIN but the trackball/vol -/power combo not working either. and I cant find the StockKG2ODIN.tar.md5 i need to download anyway smh all links i have seen are broken.

I'm gonna look into this more further, may take some time, ill be quick tho

if you figureanything out let me know. im totally stuck right now. still cant find the rar.md5 file and still cant even boot into download mode to use ODIN anyway. even when i plug it in to charge, it freezes at the first charge icon (empty battery) so im thinkin its worse than just a simple solution

I got mine to go into Download mode as like this, Take out Batter, **Plug Phone Into Computer USB** then do the VOL - + Power + Track Ball
My problem is I also can't find the KD1StockODIN.tar.md5 that was originally used in the process =/ . Let me know if you come across it.

Did I brick my phone or is it Sudden Death

I was installing a new rom on my phone its the android revolution one and after i selected which apps i wanted it started installing. when it was done installing it crashed and the screen went black. Now I cant charge it, the computer dosent recognize it, cant turn it on, and cant enter download or recovery mode.The screen is completley black and i cant do anything to the phone. Did i brick it and if i did is there any way to fix it or is just sudden death?

Is the screen turning on?
If not remove the battery for 10-15 and try again...
If screen is turning on.. Search for unbrick tutorial via odin in ur device's thread! :thumbup:
If u can't turn phone on... Ur phone is probably hard bricked...

Confirm if it is Soft or Hard bricked. If the tutorial for unbricking a soft brick works you are back to normal and it was just soft. If not, it is hard bricked :crying: .... That means you cannot bring it in since the warranty was voided after root. First try recovery mode and install another rom... It might work.

I cant enter recovery mode or download mode. But im thinking since i cant enter those moods niether will samsung be able to so how will they see that it is rooted. but i think im going to try t mobile first.

If it is confirmed hard bricked
1. buy /borrow a usb jig (u can also make one) search xda.. There is a post with names of devs who can give usb jigs.. Search it
Usb jig forces ur phone into download mode.. Then use odin to install stock rom
2.use jtag repair...search on google..it's not good to fool samsung when mistake is yours!!

Or, if a jig doesn't work and you don't want to risk criminal charges for fraud, just have it JTAG repaired - many reviews on how fast and easy the process is and they don't care that you messed up the phone yourself.
Accountability is so cool. It's awesome not to try to screw people over because you made a mistake.

+1 xda does not condone that anyway. If you screwed up your phone then you shouldn't have been playing with it in the first place without proper research
