New to android, and was wondering if there is an app that will do voicemail like iphone? I think evo has it.

Yeah, if I had to choose one thing I miss about my iPhone, it would be visual voicemail. Would definitely like to see a mod for it.
Google Voice
Google Voice is the best/free app that comes to my mind (works great for me), however I'm sure if you Google or just look for apps on the marketplace they shouldn't be hard to find...
the best visual voicemail app ive found is called youmail
I use Google voice for visual voicemail.

Duh, I completely forgot about my Google Voice account. I need to set that up haha.
Visual voicemail by Fusion
There is an app called visual voicemail. It is made by Fusion. Works great for me. I used it with Windows mobile. Had an account back then. I even get faxes to my cell number. All free when I signed up with Windows Mobile.
I don't think this belongs in the development section
this definitely belongs in general. keep the development section open for roms and fixes etc.
Anyone else think we need a q&a sections like some of the other phones?
Unfortunately for those of us that use Google Apps they left us in the dust on Google Voice.

Yes, Google Voice is pretty good. Its about as close to iphone visual voicemail as you're gonna get on the Captivate.
Plus I kind of like the transcribed voicemail emails.
How do I use that instead of att
voicemail?
Sorry for a noob q??

Log into your google account on your computer. Find google voice on google's site. There is an option to use google voice for just voice mail. There will also be instructions for setting up your phone to forward voice mails to your google voice account. When you are all done wth that, download google voice from the market and go through its options.
I did all that and google voice works seamlessly for my voice mail.
Just open another google accountunder the same email. Problem solved

Damn. I didn't know you could do that. I started another account under a different name because the market wouldn't work with my apps name.

Problem NOT solved because it's still a different account with a new contact list.
Your google voice account does not have to be the same as your primary account. I have a google apps account that I use as my primary account for contacts, email and calendars. I have a second account that I use for the market and google voice. It works fine.

But none of your Voice stuff syncs with the main account.
as the question says which is the best one in the market?
i have seen a lot of them like whatsapp, liveprofile, textplus, kik messenger, and google talk
which one do you think is the best, as blackberrys have their own messenger we android user could use the one only application for all android users
because almost all of my friends use blackberys even knowing blackberry phones sucks but they use them just because of the "free sms"
and when i try to convince them to use android they just say no, and i cannot text to them for free because they also get lazy to download any other application
I know some of you are in the same situation as i am

Google+ Huddle is pretty neat and seems to be an answer to BBM by introducing a 'group chat' instant messenger for anyone who associates their Gmail with the social media website.
In the future, I think Google+ Huddle is going to try to take place of BBM-type communication on Android, but since not everyone is on G+, it'll take awhile to develop.
In the meantime, I use trillian for instant messaging - though I don't use it as an "always accepting IMs in the background application." Google Talk is the easiest program to accomplish this for novice users.
Whatsapp
Whatsapp works pretty well I use that and it works across all platforms
every one ive had drains battery like crazy...
well ive used liveprofile and is good but sometimes msgs doesnt arrive at time, kik messenger is the fastest i have used, and google talk is the one with comes by dfault and could be used as "like bbm" but atleast in mexico like 1 of 10 have Gmail account :/

because is consumes a lot of battery...
my point is this.... for example if BB people uses BBM as their Free texting mode
we can use Google Talk as Our Free Texting Mode as it is running background always (well i dont know but i cannot logged out from google talk)
but not every person knew or know that, and i think it is almost the same thing, but with just giving your gmal acc instead of the PIN thing
I searched and I don't think this has been covered here yet

I used to use syncsms and while it was good it sometimes would just not work, and it utilized dropbox which I wasn't a fan of. This is awesome and uses google chat or email. All I did was create a new gmail just for this purpose and keep google talk logged into it on my tablet. Just wanted to share the wealth and all props goes to Koush who also developed RomManager, man that guy is awesome.
i love this app with the Chrome extension, but found that it was cluttering up my gchat contact list with people's phone numbers as contacts. To fix I set the app to only send emails and filter them in Gmail. I like the idea of setting up a separate email address to handle that issue.
I take it you have to side load on the TF? Market shows incompatible for TF but good for my N1
You install the app on your phone, then i use google talk to receive the messages on the transformer. The app just forwards the messages

Ah OK, got it thanks.
I use textab for this feature. Works very well.
I dont like using Bluetooth, and this way they don't need to be near eachother to work in case I forget my phone
TextTab does work well when I was using the beta, only thing I wish it did was enable upon boot. I always forget to enable it after phone or tablet boot up.
I use SynSMS except like mentioned it's not always reliable.
I like this DeskSMS so far. I can get rid of Mighty Text and SyncSMS and replace with one app.
Also with this as with SyncSMS, I can leave my phone home and on while out of the country and still get my SMS.
I use the google voice app on my transformer. It is the same as on my ATRIX. I can text and read and listen to voicemails.

I'm not quite sure how to use desksms....I downloaded it to my phone...then I put in my google account....had check boxed the gmail and google chat boxes....but nothing happens when I send an sms...I did the "test sms" from the app and it came to my phone....but that was it...nothing on the tablet...
what SMS client to I install to my tablet?
So the app can send sms, eh - that somehow worries me.
I just use google talk on my tablet to get the messages and you can respond through gtalk also

Nothing is install on the tablet, it forward your sms to Google Talk.
It work for me at first but now it does not forward amy sms to my google talk.
It does sync with my Chrome extension
mine still works, I also have the google talk desktop program and get it through there too
So if i use google voice there's no reason to use this right?
nope..not really
edit: as long as you sideload google voice onto the tablet

My wife and I both have Android phones (Gnex) with separate Google accounts, obviously. I have purchased apps on my account that I want to install on her phone, so I log my account into her phone and access the Play Store to install them. All is fine and dandy--works well. But then with my account on her phone, she gets my Google Talk IMs all the time. I have the account set to sync nothing. And I open Talk and manually sign out, but it keeps signing me in automatically. Is there anything to do about this? I want to basically block the account but still have access to it (I know it's crazy talk). lol. Any thoughts or imput? Thanks!
Well...it's possible to freeze google talk,if you're rooted...
But somehow I think play and talk are synced somehow ..freezing talk may create issues with talk
There is a tutorial for that on xda
Buying an app from the Play Store only entitles the particular user to use that app. From Google's point of view, you cannot use apps purchased from one account on another account.
Having said that, you can use Titanium Backup to create a backup of apps on your phone & then restore those apps on your wife's mobile. However, this would require you to be rooted.

If your wife doesn't use talk, then this above is a good idea.
I've always uninstalled talk through TitaniumBackup perfectly fine so freezing should not create any issues

My wife uses Talk for her account, so I don't want to disable it entirely. And we're rooted, yes. I install the apks most of the time, but since I own them, I was trying to do the legit thing. =)

I am using T Mobiles standard email app on my Sensation with a POP account. The phone is unlocked by T Mobile but never been rooted and is stock with all T Mobile updates.
I can download my emails no problem and as far as I`m aware it leaves them on the server. There are some I like to keep indefinately on the phone, for example, travel insurance details or weekend away vouchers. For some reason after a period of time, say about 3 or 4 days, these emails have vanished and are not in the deleted items folder. Where have they gone. Is there a setting somewhere that will let me keep them. I`ve searched all over the phone and I can`t find one. I`ve also searched the forum and can`t find this specific problem.
Hi there. Why don't you use the straight gmail application from the play store? I can promise nothing gets deleted. My guess is T-Mobile has a time limit or
Something to keep the emails and they delete them after. I also am T-Mobile user but I've always used gmail instead. I never lose an email. In fact some important emails I've kept for over a year now. Just download the app from the play store, set up the account, and you will have a more reliable email. Just don't use the email icon, use the gmail. Somehow it's different. It keeps all the emails until you delete them. Hope this helps. I've always used gmail and never ever had a problem like that. Best wishes to you.

Thanks for that I`ll give it a go, although I have a Gmail account but don`t use it very much. Can I add my POP accounts to the Gmail app so they all open in Gmail, if you know what I mean
****EDIT**** Managed to sort it by going to the Gmail settings on my PC and then lo and behold it was all synced to my phone, sorted
