[UPDATE] Rooted US/(WW) Transformers 8.6.5.6(7) to 8.6.5.9 - Eee Pad Transformer Android Development

First and foremost I take no responsibility to what this update package will do to your device. That being said I have tried this successfully on multiple rooted tablets running US 8.6.5.6.
Long story short if your rooted this will update you to 8.6.5.9 and update your CWM to 3.2.0.1 provided by Roach2010. Simply download to root of sdcard and flash through CWM.
All credit goes to Roach2010 and the package he provided for the 3.2 upgrade.
UPDATE: This is for Rooted stock firmware only, if you applied Netflix patch or any other mod's this will fail. Revert your changes and then give this a shot.
UPDATE2: Added the WW package but I can't test this. Please let me know how it goes.

Nice, waiting for WW version also
Sent from my Transformer TF101 using Tapatalk

Remember !!!!
If you already apply Netflix patch You cant update. (MD5 error) Using root explorer go to system/lib and rename
libnvomx.so file to libnvomx.so.tmp
and
original libnvomx.so.bak file to libnvomx.so.
After Update using CW mode ( Remember to mount all before)
*** [when you update nexflix patch last time this file replace to XOOM's libnvomx.so file. Thats why you need to do this.]***

If someone can get me the WW package I can cobble something together. I won't be able to test however since I am on US.
Let me know.

Backing up now to try. I tried the unroot and update method but it kept failing, im betting some file I modified (like the Xoom SystemUI) or something I deleted is pissing it off. Hopefully this resolves it.
I never did the netflix patch so I should be good right? I should be able to run this, sideload netflix and party all the time?

I un-rooted, trying to get the update ... will this still work ?

If you unroot that why you did'n update original one. I saw some one upload in another thread. I think this is only for rooted one and this is modified version.

I was able to install this, it appears to have updated my build. I did run into some issues where it got mad because I had uninstalled the ASUS programs that it wanted to update but once I pasted those back in it ran fine (i of course then deleted them again).
Now I just need to clear this firmware thing. It keeps asking me to update

Ryan, did you install this while un-rooted ? since you mention you tried the unroot and update method - which is what i tried too

Just run the firmware and it will fail. Reboot and the notice will go away. How I did it on mine.

Can I use this if I'm running Prime 1.7 ?

No. This is only for people with rooted stock ROM version 8.6.5.6 who want to update to stock rooted 8.5.6.9

Rooted and with clock workmod
A couple of bugs I see, not sure if its because of my Xoom systemUI but when I mount a disk it says its mounted as read only but I can modify it and when I click on the SD card icon the pop up says "mobiledock firmware updating" instead of "sd card inserted."
Also, the auto and slider look wierd under the brightness options, white icons that dont match.

Just did a BeyondCompare diff between the original dpkgzip and the modded one, so I can understand what you did. Most of it makes sense (the stuff in the script).
But why is the binary blob file half the size?

[ODIN][5-30-11][Mesmerize] Froyo EE19 stock update

This is the EE19 Froyo update package for the Mesmerize. This build replaces any build dated prior or not dated in the name. It is also only for the Mesmerize. I am not responsible for what happens if you flash it to other phones.
This is just an update package, just like what you would get from the USCC home page. I have just pulled it out of Kies build form and turned it into an Odin build for our convenience. What this means, is that you will likely not lose anything that you have downloaded from the market if you just flash the package. What you must understand, is that there may be differences in the packages themselves. If you flash and experience FC's (force closes) on packages after the flash when you first boot up, then you will need to do a wipe data/factory reset and probably flash again.
To use these files: unzip and then flash in Odin using the directions below.
#####IF YOU HAVE VOODOO ENABLED, DISABLE LAGFIX BEFORE YOU USE ODIN#####
1. Pull your phone battery
2. Start Odin
3. Click PIT and select the .pit file from the download
4. Check the PDA box, Click PDA and select the .tar.md5 file from the download
5. Plug your phone into the USB port and hold volume down
-your phone should go into download mode
6.Verify that Odin sees your phone.
-if not, try another USB port
7. Click Start
It will look similar to this. -- and when i say similar, I mean 'not exactly like'

Mesmerize EE19 stock update
OK. New upload that has been verified good downloaded and md5 checksum is checking out now.
Stock means not rooted. If you want to root this build, SOC should still do the trick. I will have a PnP for it soon.
Do we know what all has changed/been updated? I looked on the uscc page but no info was there. As always thanks for your work . It is always appreciated

Yeah, this is another of my source leaks. I sometimes get them before the company does. This won't be released for a little bit on the website, but it is coming.
As far as what is different, there are bug fixes that may or may not affect everyone. From what I have read, the main fix is a missed call bug that was actually present back in 2.1 and carried over into 2.2 that was finally found and fixed. As for anything else, I'm just getting into it, so we'll see what it has to offer.
Ah you the man. One last question. If we odin this does it wipe the phone. For example in on heinz and themes and such. Will this on undo all that or will this just update what's already on the phone.

I assume we'll have to create new theme's and rom's from this build so if you don't want stock you'll have to wait until things roll out.

Big thanks for this! The missed calls were a pain!
On first try I got a MD5 hash value is invalid error.
so got some info on the error code and got it to go by deleting the md5 in the file name and just leaving it as .tar
after deleting the md5 it converts it to a winrar file and when trying to use odin on it, it does nothing. any ideas?
ok, so after it converted to the winrar file renaming it once again with the .md5 at the end did the trick. go figure.
Kick ass. I'll try this tomorrow since I'm out of town right now. Hope this solves my missed calls/texts issue.

I can't get the .md5 to rename to a usable .tar file. Help!!
Did the fascinate suffer from this bug?
If we are using a VZW rom/radio, would the bug still affecT me? ...i suppose the amazing builders that make this device worth owning will be hard at work on framework updates? Thanx for the package!

MD5 is a checksum process to make sure you're not flashing a corrupted file, by removing that from the name you're also removing the md5 check, I don't think that's a good idea even tho it may still work. I haven't tried this yet so I'm not sure but sounds like a corrupted download would be the cause.
Oh, Thanks for the heads up!
Flashed, rooted, and got OTB on it before bed and it has been running very smooth ever since.

So this radio is the most recent radio for the Mesmerize correct? And I can Odin this to my rooted phone with the Heinz rom?
I am running stock Rom but using Voodoo kernel and voodoo lagfix. Can I just disable lagfix and then flash this in Odin?
Sorry for my ignorance, just wasn't sure if I need to revert everything back to stock before flashing this.
Thanks!
Thank you, I will be following this one. My only complaint with this phone has been missed calls. I am also interested in how this will work with Heinz 57 ROM.

EDIT2: I have finally learned how to sign files so this fixed-signed version should flash reliably now
EDIT3: So, seems I was too quick there... The file flashed correctly the first time. But then when I tried again later I got error twice and then the third time it flashed... Not quite sure what's wrong - CWM is not exactly informative in its error messages. So if flashing fails just try again a few times!
Thank you!
Nice!

Very sorry, I never actually tested the CWM file myself.
There was an error in the installation script which I have now fixed and re-uploaded the file: http://www.multiupload.com/SYYQBKHN60
It should now work fine, at least it did for me.

E:Error in /sdcard/download/bootanimation-nexus-s-cwm-fixed.zip (status 0).

What other installation method can I use with the zip? You said you did not test it CWM so I guess you used some other means. Do you just rename zip to apk?
Anyway there is probably still some syntax errors that you left in there.
Thank for trying to help.

Ugh... That's strange, sorry for that! I tried flashing this file using recovery in CF-root LA3 kernel and it worked fine for me, not sure what the problem is :/
If you want to install manually, just put the bootanimation.zip file (contained in the bootanimation-nexus-s-cwm-fixed.zip file) and put it to /system/media using Root Explorer (or adb if you have it set up). Don't forget to remount /system read/write first.
problem since la4
hi this was working great (manually put in system/media) then i flashed la4, put in there again and it just loads stock animation every time, and if i delete stock it just loads blank, any ideas?
Which kernel do you use?

Hi, as far as I know custom boot animations work with CF kernels and AbyssNote kernels (probably with most custom kernels but these two I have personal experience with).
They do not work with stock kernels.

kernals......hmmm i need to do some more reading in the forums
I've only just wrapped my head round installing roms etc so not got a clue about the kernals.
I guess I accidentally flashed a compatible kernal the 1st time I ref lashed and this latest flash doesn't have a compatible one. Can I install a custom kernal with mobile Odin?

Yes, Mobile Odin is ideal. Just click Kernel and select either a zImage file (found inside the CWM flashable files) or a tar file that contains the zImage file. Then click Flash firmware at the bottom.
I would recommend a CF-root kernel to start with - it's nearly stock so is the least likely to give you any trouble. Download the kernel according to your ROM base version from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=20724234&postcount=5
Ah nice one. Thank you piit79 followed your steps and now have a new kernel........just gotta figure out what I can do with it now but hopefully I can get me boot animation back now

[Two Apps] Notes Mobile/FlexT9

Note that these apps were intended for use with specific built in hardware for the ThinkPad. I originally ported these to the Flyer because it utilizes the same pen technology. I can't guarantee that they will work as well but I've been told that there is a stylus you can buy for your device (I don't own a Transformer) that works much better than just using your finger. So give me some feedback and let me know what you guys think!
This is an app ported over from the Lenovo ThinkPad Tablet. It's used for note taking and has handwriting recognition and palm rejection. I find it pretty useful for taking notes for my classes. I made it into a flashable zip instead of requiring the use of ADB.
Thanks to:
vlara for the install with no build.prop edits

This app is another one I pulled from the Lenovo Thinkpad. It's called FlexT9 Keyboard. It acts a normal keyboard along with something similar to swype. There's another option that allows you to write in the space provided and it translates your writing to text. This can be used anywhere that you can use the keyboard. Personally, I have a hard time getting it to recognize the words I write but maybe you guys will have better luck
A quick pointer: go to the help section in the settings to really learn how to use it.

Language Packs for Notes Mobile:http://dev-host.org/mp34hwoons0j/notesmobile-languages.zip
Sorry for the big download but it would be a pain to upload each individual apk.
To install the language packs either push to /system/app with ADB or install using a file explorer. Then go to settings and choose your language.
Original thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1426975
Reserved just in case
I don't like the flex 9 keyboard at all.
Also, when i rebooted from flashing the zip, I was greeted by a force close notification every 5 secconds of my original Keyboard (The revolver one not the stock keyboard)
I do like the note app, i just feel like I have to learn to use it.
Now I can't remove the Flex keyboard. (i tried uninstall but only gave me option to uninstall updates)
Going to try titanium to see if i can uninstall that way. If not.. looks like a full wipe and reflash of revolver's rom for me.
update:
Was able to unsinstall through titanium, although it required a reboot due to infinite force close loop.
Still not able to use the revolver stock keyboard. Have to resort to using the stock ASUS one.
To anyone who would like to flash this.. I recommend removing the flex9 APK from the .zip first.
This didn't happen with people who tested it, sorry about that. Can anyone else confirm that issue ? If so I will remove flexT9 or make a separate zip for it

[Solved] Many questions about rooting my EEE Transformer

First post, and already I'm confused and lost. Off to a good start, yes?
Firstly, greetings all. Nice to meet you.
Secondly, I today managed to acquire a very special and so far beloved Asus EEE Transformer TF101, so, tell me, what can make this Transformer even better?
Why, gaining root access, of course!
I've had a HTC sensation for about seven-ish months now, installed many things on it, and avoided bricking it (somehow), so I'm not entirely new to this process. However, the entire process of rooting the Transformer is getting a bit confusing.
After using Google (yay!) to my advantage, I eventually came across this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1366743
"EASY!" I thought.
...until I discovered my current build number is "8.6.5.21".
So, using the above thread, I got redirected to this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1417006
At this point, things started going downhill.
I read through the steps of the latter thread, which were:
" Get Razorclaw and install it, no root needed."
Done.
"- Get the recovery installer and do the same."
"The Recovery"? My first question comes here, what recovery do I want? Do I go for the straightforward CWM?
My second question is, how am I meant to install a recovery without first rooting my device?
"- Check your version info. You'll see a pair of letter which are like the "WW"[...]"
My version says "WW_epad-etc" so I assume that's sorted.
"- Follow the instructions regarding downloading the .13 update (WW version and/or whatever letter pair your tablet uses, in case the WW doesn't work)."
To this, I assume "pjfriend" refers to the first thread. So I go to it, and open this link. This link works fine, however...
image
How am I meant to downgrade(upgrade?) to Version 8.6.5.13 when it's only designed for a JP "SKU", and I have a WW "SKU"?
"Unzip, slap on external SD, power off, power on with down volume, volume up to go to recovery, bang. Done."
Again, if I have no recovery installed due to being unable to root due to being unable to update my build number, how am I supposed to boot into recovery?
"- Do the same thing with the megaupload file (.19)."

"The second option did fix the problem I had, which was trying to update to a WW.19 firmware from a US.13 - DO THE DOUBLE FILE/RENAME TRICK. It works perfectly."
I'm unsure as to what the "second option" he refers to is, and what the "double file/rename trick" is. Any ideas?
"- Run razorclaw, run recovery installer, and gloat."
Wait... so... NOW I run the recovery installer? :/
Darn my build version, it could be as easy as installing an APK and finishing!
My final aim is to install AOKP, and use that, which of course I need root for.
So, for my last trick, do I need to install any firmware for AOKP?
For my really last trick, anything else I should know?
Thanks in advance, apologies for the wall of text.
All best,
Valky.
1- Vipermod
2- Gnufabio's Recovery Installer
3- Factory Reset
4- Flash AOPK

Thanks very much, however, from what I understand Vipermod is built for the Transformer Prime. Does it work on the non-prime variant?
It will work for rooting only and not installing cwm. Use Recovery Installer for that. Worked fantastic for me on 9.2.1.17.

Yes, I used vipermod option 1 to root my tf101.

ViperMod, use option 3 since you're still on HC firmware.
Thanks a lot, all of the above, looks a lot less difficult than I was making it.
Last question:
"Plug in your Transformer"
Check.
"and make sure to install the drivers located in the included .zip"
How would I do this? After plugging in the Tablet, Windows automatically installed the driver software successfully. Is that it already done, or do I need to do anything in particular before running Vipermod?

If your PC recognized you TF, you're good to go.
In case the ViperMod process doesn't work for some reason, update the driver to
the one in the folder.
Thanks a bunch, super easy, sorted, rooted, everything's going fantastically.
Hopefully, I shall be able to help someone else in return. Thank you all once again!

Great. I highly recommend using Recovery Installer to install Rogue XM CWM Recovery. Its the only version that supports the external micro SD card. There are far to many posts about problems with others especially ROM Manager.

I'm afraid that "one last thing" isn't coming around as quickly.
After sucessfully rooting my device (thanks all!), I've installed titanium backup, backed up the few apps I installed, enabled root access on ES File Explorer, given super user permissions, all that...
Unfortunately, it seems the recovery installer insists I'm not rooted. It just flashes for a second, and then I get a message saying "Sorry, you are not rooted!"
Have I done something wrong?
Also, I have no external SD card in the device currently, but I have the 8 gig one from the old Sensation. Is that required?
Tried various things, but it seems that Recovery Installer just doesn't want to listen. Is there any other way to install a recovery, either manually or automatically, and other than ROM manager? I used 4ext/TWR on my Sensation, so I'm unused to using other things.
And now I'm being asked to update my firmware, I have two more postpone chances. Should I accept?

Remove the "silenced", "4G", "Battery symbol" and "AM/PM" from notification bar
I want to modify my notification bar so it's more something like this:
Sadly I can't put this as an image because of new user restrictions, but if a mod could edit my post for me that'd be great.
Is this possible?
I'm using a rooted 4.4.2 M8 on Verizon.

Are you on a custom ROM or stock (or stock rooted)?
I think we can help you out with a combination of system settings and systemui, apk modifications.
edit: Just saw you said you're on the stock rooted. Go thru all the settings, I think you might be able to remove the AM/PM and possibly battery. Otherwise, can you get into your phone and copy /system/app and find the systemui.apk file.
Copy it and upload it here, we can find the settings that control those.

I don't see that anywhere. I'm using ES file explorer in this picture but I also don't see it in Root Explorer.

ES is what I use. Make sure you have root enabled and RW system. Navigate to /system/app.
You'll see systemui.apk
Copy that and go to /sdcard or /0 and paste.
Plug in your phone and grab the file and upload.

I don't see any app called systemui.apk. The only files on there that start with an S are settings.apk, Settings.odex, SmartcardService.apk, SmartcardService.odex, SmartDim.apk, SmartDim.odex, Street.apk and Street.odex
Try /system/priv-app folder.

Awesome, if there's something I can help with let me know.
Also, if I follow this guide to change it to the google play edition, would the apk you send me still work?

No, that is totally different.
RUU is the HTC file that contains your system image, radio, bootloader, etc..
The file you gave me is just one system file we are changing in your current ROM.
I really advise you to read A LOT before flashing a new RUU or custom stuff to make sure you are 100% in what you're doing.

Alright, in that case I definitely won't try doing that.
Also, I just got an OTA update "offer" from Verizon that wouldn't let me decline, just delay for up to 24 hours. I have about 12 hours left before it auto-installs (4.4.3). I asked the developer of sunshine (what I used to root it) and he said that it would not brick my phone and I should be fine updating it, but it's odd I got it because I uninstalled the default crapware.
ANYWAY, will the update break the rom?

If you have not installed a custom recovery or bootloader or ROM you should be fine. Freezing certain system apps does not mean that the OTA checker is necessarily disabled.
If the the Sunshine dev told you it should be fine, then it should be fine.
edit: It will probably remove root access though, and you may need to re-root if everything goes smoothly in the first place. I don't think root would make it not update correctly, more likely it will just replace some system stuff, but maybe someone who actually owns this phone knows more than I do on this.
I am on a OnePlus One as my daily driver at the moment and we don't run into the same issues HTC users do.
