Heres the deal, Im a dumb ass. I flashed an I9000 kernel to a sch-i500 showcase. My phone is dead, boots to a Galaxy S I9000 screen and hangs. I backed up my old kernel to my sd card but havent got a clue where to begin to get things back to normal. Any help is GREATLY APPRECIATED as this is a work phone!
Thanx for all the help!
No need to be rude. Politely bump the thread; someone may get to you.

Since you said you made a backup of your old kernel on your sd card, then have you tried reflahing it? Also flashing a new rom should fix this since it comes with its own kernel made specifically for your device. So if reflashing your old kernel doesn't fix the problem (which it should), then just flash a new rom and everthing should be fixed.

OKayyyyyyy well i bought this Sidekick water damaged (unknowingly) and i guess the "brains" of the gizmo is a lill derr tuhh derr or something. Well anyways i thought it would be a good idea to help an make the phone work by rooting it and flashing a ROM. I'm not a noob at this ROM flashing business. SU installed. CWM installed. I've tried two different ROMs. Gingerclone and someother one idk. I'm not blaming those ROMs, cause I'm pretty sure it's MY phone. well anyways, when its at the last stage all of a sudden it says in blue letters SYSTEM UPDATE then it goes into its lame soft-bricked state. I'm thinking that might need to the KG1 older Build number. So any feedback, with any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

I was trying to flash a kernel that i found in a forum, i tried with Voodoo, my phone was already rooted. Then i heard a female robot voice saying something about "partition" and a process that was gonna take like ten min. From then, the google logo pops up and nothing will happen. i cant put it in download or recovery mode. now the robot voice isnt even saying anything basically just stuck on a google logo screen. I have no idea what to do. can someone please help me.
What kind of phone do you have? (Assuming Mesmerize or Showcase?) What version of Android are you on? If you come to (http://webchat.freenode.net/)(#samsung-mesmerize), it be easier to help you out. You'll need to Odin back to Stock before going forward to Voodoo lagfix.
I once biffed my phone up flashing an incapatible kernel and took it back to the store. They were happy to re-flash it for me. I also was not able.to get in recovery.
I simply told them I was trying to perform the 2.3.5 update which was listed on the site and something went wrong.
Just FYI, The voice was the kerenl enabling voodoo lag fix (a very good thing)!

Im having a problem with my Mesmerize, and I think this could help me out, but the link wont send me anywhere, can you help me out?
I think i can help u out.
K so if ur having any problems wit ur mesmerize, i'd recommend flashing back to stock rom.
Now to do this, your going to have to go to rootwiki and find the mesmerize forum.
Go to the first thread on the page, and there you can find a link to download Odin 3.1, Eh09 and Eh20 radios, and CWM 4.
To find the stock roms, theres another thread on rootzwiki that has the official USCC stock froyo and gingerbread roms.
With those downloaded, ur just gonna want to flash them on ur phone through odin. Plug phone into computer while holding the down volume the get the phone into downloading mode. Import the two files and there you have it.
Hope this solves ur problem
Blah
This phone is annoying me. Lol.
i rooted my friends sidekick 4g and he bricked it. i am trying to help him fix it. i am new to forums so if you let me know what info you need i will gladly post it. i do know he tried flashing the kernel and when it finished it wont go past logo screen. i can get to cwm recovery but it wont install recovery ... some kind of error... he used voodoo and tried to flash bali...i think that was it ...i just want to go back stock
I assume you used an incompatible version of the kernel for your ROM. And there's a known problem with getting clockwork set up right. Anyway, you can restore it all the way back to stock by using Odin. Then you can try again or leave it alone.
do i have to download something to do this
if so could you post a link and thanks for the quick reply

Hey guys i`ve recently managed to get an SGS 4G Vibrant ( i believe that i am at right place to seek for help ) , i have the T-Mobile version of the phone. I need help switching to different/better ROM, at this moment the phone uses the stock one ( or i believe so ). I`ve been tru the threads and saw that there are a lot of stuff posted about what you need to do/have to flash a rom, but i just cant understand the right order of doing the things.
If its posible can someone really quick just post the steps for the guide for flashing a ROM to the phone. I have previous expiriance with android phone and i am aware how thing go, just as i said i cant get the right order of puting all the thing at one place.
For the phone i used to have was like, first i had to install an stocklike ROM which had recovery, but before that i had to get some kind of software for LG that alowes to flash the rom via download mode. So is the same here? It would be awesome if someone can link or atleast type all the software and other thing i need to have installed to make this work. For now what i have is the USB drivers for Samsung.
Thanks in advance!

Ok, that helped, not sure how i missed it. I am gonna write down what i did so far, so you could see if i messed up something.
I rooted the phone via SuperOneClick 2.2, then i installed the SGS Kernel Flasher, and then flashed the kernel, my current phone was running an 2.3.7 android, so i used the Basic with a Twist`s kernel ( i hope i did it right ), and now the phone rebooted and some different boot screen apiared with some Robotic Chick speeking some stuff, BUT for now the phone load to there, it doesnt wannt to load.
So did i messed up something, or ....
Can you go into recovery by holding Volume Up+Volume Down while pressing the power button and as soon as the SGS 4G splash appears leaving the power button ?
If so and you can see CWM Ver. 5.0... then kernel was successfully flashed.
You shouldn't be getting a bootloop.
What ROM do you want to flash ? If you want to flash GB then I suggest Barebone/Valhalla of some kind.
If you want ICS - Go to the CM 9.1 thread and follow the instructions. After that you may change to AOKP or MIUI or all the rest of the ICS ROMs you wanna try.

This section is not for the Vibrant.
Check here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=708
I am sorry I do not know how to get you back to where you started before flashing the wrong ROM.
Good luck
Well, it wasnt a bootloop, it just loaded to some point and stoped. Gladly still got the download mode and brought it back to normal to how it was. Thats why i came here to ask, `couse there are too much similiar sgs`s and stuff for them here, i just got confused whats what. Got to start from scratch anyway, at least i didnt bricked it
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=21953587&postcount=1 <---- That's a post by Lumin 30 with a guide on how to get from stock to custom GB. If you want to get to ICS then use CWM 5.0.x.x.
Hey everyone, I'm so sorry but I'm really confused and I need expert advice and help. I download a ROM, it wasn't for my phone model. So I downloaded the hack kernel and my phone when crazy and never boot up again. So I wiped my whole phone, I still had the same problem. So I found a SM-920W8 kernel (I forgot where, somewhere on google). I download it on my phone and it went back on again. Expect ONE PROBLEM... My phone is a 32GB S6, when I downloaded this kernel it only had a 16GB storage? I didn't understand what happen. So I'm trying to reset my phone with the original kernel but I can't find it and I called samsung and they won't help since I rooted my phone. Please anyone help me.
Information I'm confused with:
1. What's a kernel? Is a kernel just a firmware? I don't get it?
2. Where can I find the original kernel for my model that has 32GB?
3. Is there anyway I can just whip my whole phone out and get back my original kernel?
PLEASE AND THANK YOU!!!!
