Battery charging time improved!!!!!!!!!! - HTC Sensation

There's probably a thread about it, but I just wanna share my battery life experience after the update. I got the tmobile sensation and before the update, charging my phone from 0 to 100% while the phone was on took at least 4 1/2 hours. Now it takes about 2 1/2 hours. Great improvement! Plus the battery last longer.

After second drain (100 to 0%), second recharge was really faster. About 3 hours form 0 to 100% with phone off.
Battery life was longer either.

Really? Lucky you guys then! I've found the battery life to be worse after the update

My Phone charges even faster 20% in a few minutes! And Great battery life with custom ROM ...

Second charge, almost the same time.
With an average usage.

What app is that?

The app is SystemPanel (paid version is worth it).

No updates, no root, all stock - moderate use, original battery, now I start seeing nearly 30hr on one charge. First few days where a lot shorter.
On the first day, i let phone drain battery completely, charged without switching phone on-did this few times and battery improved.

[i9003] Battery life and charge time

Hi all,
Whats the battery life you people are getting? and also the charge time taken for a full charge. Lets dedicate this thread for posting details about battery life.
Mine is below,
Battery Life : 1 to 1.2 days.
With live widgets and gtalk : less than 22 hrs.
Avg charge time : 4 hours(Too lond )
I got 14 hours with 4hours of wifi...anyway to increase battery life...even when its idle it dropped from 100 to 80...that is without use,is it normal?
Sent from my GT-I9003 using XDA App
Yes its normal & that happens bcoz your data connection remains on which eats battery, if you want to increase battery life you can use free APNdroid widget with this you can switch ON/Off the data connection. Else use juice defender or tasker they both can save battery life to quite an extent. Both have trial version.
In the night I switch to airplane mode & keep my data connection off hence I get 1.5 day of battery usage sometimes even more, if I don't surf the web then I get full 2 days of battery usage.
Charge time 4hours but I have heard that HTC charger can charge faster & gives longer battery life due to current difference. I will try this weekend borrowing it from a friend.
I think I am the first one to Vote. My usage is mainly calls. 1-2 hours of calling. 1 hour at XDA using XDA application with 3g on. 1-2 hours of playing around with the Phone and gallery etc. But with heavy usage, battery life is just enough to come back home and charge after 8 PM. My battery goes down by 3-4% after over night standby not 20% as mentioned in the above post.

This is more dependent on the tower distance near your home & its data signal strength, there are people for whom night time usage is only 1-2% ideal.
Do you feel if i flash a different firmware i would get a better battery life...

Usage with gprs usage of about 3o mins surfing, email sync, lil chat & fb i barely get thru the day and am at arnd 15-30% by 7pm.
I guess mine's pretty bad eh ?
Overnight i tend to lose about 7%

Well, I have a moderate usage of almost all features (call, mail, camera, music, net radio, browsing, etc.) and it lasts for about 1.5 days.
Yea, full charge time is pretty long if you do not switch off your phone while charging.
Battery life in the long run depends if you have maintained a few golden tips for new batteries:
After unboxing, fully charge the battery in switched off condition. For the first 10-15 charge-discharge cycles, let the battery fully drain and the phone to automatically shut off. Then charge fully and switch on the phone. Avoid charging while phone is on or has quite a bit of charge.
I had a Nokia N91 and following above steps, the battery gave promising backup even after 4 years! Sadly, I lost the phone in Jan this year and bought the i9003.
DEAD CHARGER
Recently my i9003 bundled charger got fked up somehow... it just stopped charging the phone; had a few languishing days charging off the data cable off my laptop. Took to nearest service centre with a photocopy of the bill and it was instantly changed with a similar 700MA charger but of different shape.
Oh, I seemed to find a friend who is the tech there and jumped the long queue! LOL
I get about 24-28 hours battery life. I calibrated my battery after flashing to XXKB3 and I think that brought the best out of the battery. Running SuperPower and I mainly use Wi-fi while surfing.

how long is ur charge time with 700mA Charger?
I agree with the OP about seriously long time to charge! I had an X10 earlier and that used to fully charge in 2.5 hrs, but this takes really long. To just reach 100 from 90 it takes like about an hour!
well mine since i flashed 2.3.4 only stays for 18 hrs max with less than average usage only talk in for 1 hrs 2g maybe and browse use ebook for 1 hr maybe that is all when i used froyo 2.2.1 it used to stay for 1.5 day
any ideas of wht i can do i did battery calibration and am using xda super power
on xxkph i was getting about 15hrs with amits oc 1.1
after flashing xxkpm i seem to be blown away
im using xxkpm and cf root by skin and im getting 1 day 5 hrs with heavy usage and 2 days 4 hrs on moderate usage

I actually like my Sensation, but I'm gonna have to return it

Kind of makes me sad though. The device feels good in my hand and I like it overall, but the battery performance is unacceptable for me. I went to bed with it having something like 93% (dropping from 100% after like 15min of play). Not even 6h later I wake up and when I look at it, the battery is already drained to 85% only from standby (Yes,always-on mobile data is deactivated, power efficiency is on). After playing with the unit in train and some browsing while commuting for 30min, its already at 70% or something. During the next few hours, while working, I was just checking mails, using whatsapp from time to time and writing a few messages. No surfing, no videos no games.
By 3PM the battery was at 15%. Even worse, the damn thing takes some 4h+ to fully charge. That's just too damn long, my iphone 3gs charges fully in about an hour. What is also very frustrating is that the Sensation discharges a good portion of its current as pure HEAT. Never saw a phone get this warm afer 15min of normal usage.
I knew battery wasn't going to be stellar but this just sucks. Most of all that a full charge takes 4h. fail :-/
EDIT: Ok guys the 2.3.4 update did the trick! The battery now chrages fully within 2h and battery life has ridiculously improved!
I took it off the cord around 8am this morning. Now it's 2pm and my battery is at 83 with some 46min screen time and slight usage. Also the heating seems to be gone.
Apart from that, everything runs smoother with the new update. Guess I'm gonna keep the little guy after all
However, I did order 2 extra Ankers + charger (25$!) as additional mobilty is never wrong.
Before you return it, I recommend that you call HTC support and request a warranty exchange for the phone and battery.
You may have a defective unit.
While my battery isn't stellar, I get a minimum of 10 hours before I drop below 20% life (always-on mobile data off, manual syncing, not too many widgets).
Your phone battery performance is not indicative of Sensation battery performance for the overall majority.
Most have said that the battery gets better after a few full charges/discharges, and the todays new update is supposed to improve battery performance. Many people say the Sensation is better than most other 4G phones.
I dont play games and such, mostly phone text and email and it lasts me a day and a half. There is also a better battery you can get.
That charging time is ridiculous, which leads me to believe that your unit and/or battery is defective.
Mine charges from 15% to 100% in 2 hours. Same for almost everybody elses phone.
You might want to reconsider and try warranty exchange mentioned earlier. Also, I would suggest the ChiChi battery. I'm running from 7:30 to about 4:00 with my WiFi hot spot turned on for my Galaxy Tab 10.1 and I'm using my phone for calls, texts etc., my battery still has about 30% left when I leave work.

Dude , custom rom and anker / chitec battery.
My first time with my new anker achieved almost 24 hours on battery and almost 4 hours screen time with quite alot of use during that time.
Totally destroyed my oem battery in every way.
Also I would do a Warranty Exchange and with the new update I have seen a big differance in 2.3.4 vs 2.3.3 in terms of battery life and speed of Sense in general. I purchased a Anker 1900mah battery for $10 and fully charged to dead I get on average about 17-20 hours and I would say I'm a good moderate to HEAVY! user. Switching back to a stock battery after calibrating with the Anker Battery has also improved battery life seeing that I get between 12-14 hours with stock now. I would charge to 100% go to bed and wake up with about 97%-98%

Get a anker battery and download leedroid/android revolution/insertcoin. I guarantee you won't want to return it than. When I first got my device I was thinking about doing the same thing but after I looked through the thread I saw people were getting better results with the anker or chichi. Don't be discouraged that its a third party. It actually out performs the stock battery and embarrasses it.
Also download calibrate battery from the market.

I had terrible battery life for the first week or so. 6 to 8 hours max, and 2 hours screen time if I was lucky. After conditioning the battery by fully discharging then fully charging on the AC adapter for a few cycles, it corrected itself for the most part. Yesterday I had 15 hours with 3 hours screen time and still had 20+ percent left. I have a chichtech battery sitting in my mailbox right now waiting for me to get off work.

really appreciate the good advice guys, thanks. I have done my bit of reading here and many many people here report having around 4h charge timr (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1154780)
So you guys can not confirm this? If so, it might be my battery is faulty. I will upgrade to 2.3.4 and calibrate. Probably will improve battery time, I doubt however it will reduce the charge time...
Something is definitely up. I just got my Sensation 10 days ago and am still stock. It takes me ~2 hours to fully charge, and that's with me using the phone like crazy while its charging....and the phone light on the entire time.
And I get a good full days use out of it....sometimes 2 days if I dont use the screen much and just phone text email.
IT'S ALIVE!!!

Also check if your phone is always awake because I had this and it had a huge affect.
I easily get 16-20 hours with LeeDroid's ROM.
i had the same battery issue with my first sensation. Even after several cycle of charging - discharging, battery calibration, the battery would not last for more than 7-8 hours. i exchanged it , for first couple of days, it didn't hold the charge for long,.but after i did battery calibration and update to 2.3.4, now my battery will last for 12 to 14 hours with moderate use. doesn't get hot with normal use, but over the weekend , i use map navigation and temp reached 48C. I think, i should not use it as GPS for longer than few minutes, or it may burn the phone.
Juice Defender Ultimate is definitely worth the tiny amount of money it costs. Just got just over 3 days on my Sensation, admittedly i hardly used it.
Usually i get a good 22 hours from it with medium use.
HTC sensation
Just replace the battery and you will see the difference.. my phone last ast least 10 hours.. its just amazing....
I lose almost no charge while it sits on standby.
I work 12 hour shifts, I listen to Music the entire time, browse, login to home computers for about 30 minutes using Teamviewer and keep up with RSS feeds throughout.
By the end of shift I'm down to 5%.
Sounds like you need a replacement, rather than a return, bud.

When should i replace the battery?

I am using p500 from one and half years and i use it heavily so i have to charge it every day. Now i feel that the battery has done his job

I'm using my phone since 19 months and battery is fine heavy usage gets me 8-10 hrs battery while moderate gets about 24Hr and simple usage(just for call and msg) gets me more than 50hrs..
A Lithium-ion battery has normally 400-1200 charging cycles (Ref. Wiki).
Couple of things that shorten life span of a battery:
1) Complete discharging, it is recommended not to go below 20%
2) High temperature which implies that if you OC too much your device will heat up and battery life shortened
3) If you consume 50% of your device battery on day 1, recharge to 100% at night, and do the same thing on day 2, then you would have just finished up one charge cycle of its battery life. Constantly recharging a lithium ion battery does not shorten the battery life more than normal usage would. Hence constantly recharging a lithium ion battery does not shorten the battery life more than normal usage would. Avoid letting it sit on empty for too long; instead, keep it charged-up if you can. (REF.)
My battery behaves in a funny way. With moderate use it dissipates very fast. and then if I keep screen off for more than 10 mins then my battery starts regenerating automatically(5-7%)
I noticed a few times, with some of the phones or devices I used to own, that if you, for example, after charging the phone, let's say play a graphics intensive 3D game for 15 minutes, the battery meter will drop quite a lot(e.g. 15%). But if you leave it on stand-by immediately, you will notice that after some time, the battery meter will indicate with 3-5-7% more than before.

Lithium battery's do last a long time but they do loose there charge and become weak. After a year and a half I would defiantly consider buying a new battery. I wouldn't recommend the cheap $3.00 battery's but I would look on eBay or amazon and find a stock o.e.m battery. Brand battery's are more expensive but last probably 3-5 times longer then cheap battery's. I've read and heard that lithium battery's are not suppose to get hot but they can get warm, if the battery gets hot then it can destroy the battery and won't hold a charge as long as it should.
It also depends on what ROM you are running and what applications you are running, all that can add up and drain your battery fast. I would change a battery on a phone about 5-7 months or maybe even up to a year. Depends on your budget and what you can afford. hope this helps

Does anyone else's max stay on 1% battery for hours?

So my maxx will drain to 1% battery in about 3 days with 3 hours screen time. The thing is once I hit 1% it can stay on 1% and not shut off for hours. Right now its been on 1% for about 7 hours, I have a youtube video going just to see how much longer it will go. Its been playing a youtube video now for about 20 min on 1%.
I just got this phone last week, is this because the system hasn't fully calibrated the battery? Or is the battery defective in some way? Its kind of annoying because you think you are out of battery but it keeps going so I don't really know how much battery I have.
Definitely not normal. I'd do a factory reset to eliminate a software issue and if the issue persists seems like it must be a hardware issue, exchange it
These sound like calibration issues. Can you fully charge your battery and then leave in on the charger for awhile -- like an hour or more? That should calibrate it correctly.
I have never nor will ever let my battery get that low. These batteries don't like to be drained and then fully charged it's not healthy for the battery. I don't let my battery go below 30 to 40 percent if I can help it. Most of the time I let it get to about 50 percent then I charge it.

not to be rude but where is you information or evidence backing your statement? this goes against everything i know and i certainly always allow my battery to fully die then i fully charge it over night while it is off, i believe charging at 40 percent fools the battery into thinking that is the end of the battery's daily life span and therefore dying prematurely due to it believing that 40 percent is the end.
I do not have any real evidence except i've gotten exceptional battery life with my Ultra after allowing a full cycle (draining all the way and then fully charging while powered down)...i have gotten just under 32 hours with 4 hours and some odd minutes screen on with about an hour of voice calls and random other usage such as tapatalk browsing, internet, texting and maybe some email or youtube....i occasionally play some games like the new CoD Strike Force

The best source is battery university. Here are a few good links. In the first, look at the third column (Li-ion), as that's the battery pack in the Maxx/Ultra/Mini
http://batteryuniversity.com/learn/article/how_to_charge_when_to_charge_table
http://batteryuniversity.com/learn/article/how_to_prolong_lithium_based_batteries
From the second link (emphasis mine):
Similar to a mechanical device that wears out faster with heavy use, so also does the depth of discharge (DoD) determine the cycle count. The shorter the discharge (low DoD), the longer the battery will last. If at all possible, avoid full discharges and charge the battery more often between uses. Partial discharge on Li-ion is fine; there is no memory and the battery does not need periodic full discharge cycles to prolong life, other than to calibrate the fuel gauge on a smart battery once in a while.

New to tablets | Is my battery normal?

This is my first time owning a tablet so I don't know how battery life works here.
At 29% from 100%, I have 17h 29m, SOT 3h 14m, wifi 17h 29m, fallout shelter 40m, YouTube 22m, and some minutes on fb, etc.
Does my battery life ok or not? Thanks guys
Btw I'm on 6.0.1 v1.4 rooted, stock rom and kernel.
Seems a little low sot the tablet is generally going to get 5 or 6 sot hours
It depends on screen brightness! WiFi also takes more than it shows in the stats!
In the beginning, the battery drains a lil faster. But after some recharge cycles it last longer and even recharges faster.

My screen brightness is like 25-30% only everytime. Power plan is Max. Yeah the battery charges faster now, i get like 1500mA-3100mA, most of the time is 3100mA using LG G4 charger. In recharge cycle, do I need it to charge it to 100 then down to 0%? Thanks
Yeah, max performance takes most juice. Really no need for it until a heavy game lags, which so far never happened. I played Godfire with high rendering and it's smooth.
I usually recharge to 100% when the battery is at 5% or below. I've battery saver turn on automatically at 5% so I know when to recharge. At 2 to 1% the Shield makes an auto shutdown. Some say, it's not so healthy for the battery to drain it 0% every time. I dunno.
Okay, just found out that my Shield takes about ~5% per day when being idle. Hence, you'd get 20 days standby. Airplane mode on, WiFi off, processor mode: optimized!
