Is it just fine to run unrevoked on this rig, or is there anything I have to do first? Running win 7 64bit wich I remembered having problem with when rootin the wildfire. Maybe I can run it from the office-computer, but I think that I have no permission to install the drivers from here.
what's your HBoot version? Check by the following steps -
Pull the battery of the phone, and re-insert AFTER 20 SECONDS MINIMUM
After re-inserting, hold the volume down botton, and press the power button, and hold both till you see a white screen.
Release the buttons. there shud be a no. (like 0.98.0000) on top. Post it here
PS - Plzz post all future questions in general thread
PPS - Do not quickly re-insert battery, as that can brick your phone. Always wit 20-30 seconds before re-insert.
shrome99, there is no need to pull out the battery (with the risks you are aware off). On stock rom, during normal operation, if you press Volume down and simultaneously the power button, the phone will reboot into Hboot and he can check the version...

there is my info...thanks for helping (dont really remember this since it was a time ago with the wildfire, and put it in the washing mashine after 1 week. So didnt do this for long time.
Okay, have checked that it root itself when flashing a custom rom, seems neat!
so if this is correct, all I have to do is to get my phone to S-Off first, then flash a custom rom, and all done?
So, there are many, many custom roms when looking fast...wich one to choose?
And on HTC Wildfire, the mainthing to root was to overclock the phone....what is the mainthing to root this phone and get new custom roms? Are there any great differences?

Hi all,
I just got an Era-branded G1 (I'm in Poland) and would like to upgrade to the latest Android image. I understand that in order to root the device I first need to downgrade to an older image.
My question - which image should I downgrade to? I have read various posts with confusing information. Some state that RC29 works fine, others that RC29 bricked their phone (due to CID lock - not sure what this is) and to use RC7 instead. I really don't want to brick this phone and would appreciate your help!
From the Settings screen:
Model number - Era G1
Firmware version - 1.1
Baseband version - 62.33.20.08U_1.22.12.29
Kernel version - 2.6.25-01843-gfea26b0 [email protected] #6
Build number - 126400
Thanks for your help!
hah! napisz do mnie jak chcesz moze ci pomoge. ja mialem RC 30 bo bylem w ameryce.. nigdy nie uzylem rc7 mialem tylko adp 1.1 i rc 33
Try instructions in this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=485364 post.
Why can I not just use the instructions in the sticky thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=442480? Will this not work on the Polish G1 with build number 126400?
If not then I will try to follow the thread kormanb1123 linked. I know linux so it should not be a problem. But should I be worried about downgrading to the "right" RC, or does it not matter if I take US RC-29 or UK RC-7?
Thanks guys for the help! Smokuevo - nie jestem polakiem i nie mowie bardzo po polsku.. ale dzieki!
lol allright man thought u were ;;pp
Because of CID lock
cannot get into bootloader?
I'm getting ready to use the method described in kormanb1123's link. First I thought I would check that I can get into the bootloader - but somehow I cannot
This is what I do:
- power off the G1
- press the camera button
- now also press the power button until the G1 turns on
- then let go of both the camera and power buttons
Then I get:
The normal blue startup screen with blue Era G1 logo, followed by the black screen with glowing android logo, and then it boots into Android.
This is exactly the normal startup process! What am I doing wrong?
Do not let go of camera button until you are in bootloader. Turn off your phone. Hold camera button and then press on/off button for a second or two until it strats up. Keep holding the camera button and let go when you are in bootloader..
Ok, thanks for clarifying. I did exactly that and kept holding the camera button after powering on. However, the phone just boots straight into android. It looks just like a normal startup in every way, and asks me to unlock my SIM. No bootloader in sight.
Could it be that this build (126400) works differently?

Try to remove battery first than, and start over. It has to start inti bootloader.
still cannot get into bootloader..
I removed the battery and put it back in. But starting up while holding the camera button still does not do anything special.
But when I start up while holding Home then I see a black screen with an icon that looks like a triangle with a '!' inside it. Will this allow me to flash it?

once you have root you can use the black screen you found to use update.zips to upgrade your phone, there is no update.zip that will downgrade at this point(if ever)from any image RC29-up.
to get the dreamimg.nbh which is what im assuming your looking to do, make sure the card is fat32(they come formatted to just FAT)put the file on the root of the card and it should be cam+power keep both pressed for a good 6 seconds or more
its quite easy once you have the steps correct, there is a possibility your carrier blocked access to the stock HTC bootloader, but Ive never heard of them ever doing that, its there for their own tech to use, they need it as much as we do to fix/upgrade(tho they could just use home+power) but I doubt, that key combo has been the same on every htc Ive ever owned (about a dozen over 5 or 6 models)
good luck,
bhang
Thanks bhang for the explanation. I've triple-checked everything and am still not able to reach the bootloader. I will try with a 2nd SD card and see if that makes a difference - right now I'm using the 2GB SD card that came with the G1.
I really hope they did not disable bootloader access as you mention. Anyone here have another Era-branded G1 that was originally running build 126400?
I have the same G1 as u haxor and my bootloader starts. I'm only afraid of update type correct for my phone G1 Era PL. I don't want to lock it Is enybody who did it correctly and who knows which update should I use?
Thank for help an asap answer
I bought Era G1 for myself 3 days ago,and I have that 126400 build, and for me the debug mode(power on+camera button) works. But I'm still afraid to downgrade my phone,as I don't know which version, US or UK I should use. Output from the debug mode:
DREA110 PVT 32B
HBOOT-0.95.0000
CPLD-4
RADIO-1.22.12.29

Does anyone know which version should I use to downgrade my phone?
Era G1 can be downgrade only with GoldCard ... if you are from poland, you must see forum.android.com.pl ... if not ... you must search topic called downgrade for g1 from Europe ... maybe

Why is that? I found on that forum that Era G1 uses RC8 firmware,so in theory I should be able to downgrade to RC7.....what might happen if I try? Will I brick my phone,or it simply won't run?
Ok I found out why is that, upgrade won't start, because of the wrong ID of the SD card. You need to use the GoldCard method for this to work.
I just went through the whole procedure with my Era G1 (with different operator SIM inside) from 126400 all the way down to RC29 and up to JFv1.43_RC9. In short words how I did it:
1. Create GoldCard using old (still free) version of qmat_424.zip and any Windows Mobile device with microSD
2. SD flash of DREAIMG-RC29.zip
3. Get root access using telnetd/telnet
4. Install recovery.img and flash Hard-SPL
5. Upgrade using the recovery JFv1.43_RC9 wiping all the settings on the way.
Don't forget to recharge fully the battery before starting this madness.

You basically perform most of the steps to perform a factory reset, but not the last...
1. Power Off Phone.
2. Remove the battery, wait for a few seconds, then reinsert the battery.
3. Press and hold the VOLUME DOWN button, and then briefly press the POWER
button.
4. Wait for the screen with the three Android images to appear, and then release
the VOLUME DOWN button.
Now the top line of the screen should....say something like....
SAGA PVT SHIP and either S-ON or S-OFF
To get out of this screen:
1. hit the Power button
2. then the VOLUME DOWN to select REBOOT
3. then hit the POWER button
Once you have a S-OFF phone then getting root should be easy.
thnx bro. Sadly, my phone is S-On Is there any way to root S-On Or change it to S-Off?? Also, wats XTC Clip?

I can see you intention was good, but unfortunately the rooting process varies slightly between devices, this comes down to the bootloader, android version, and HTC build version, each have different parts which can be exploited in order to create a loop hole in order to abuse.
The problem is, all it takes is one person to not read your post completely, follow that guide, then when something goes wrong they're coming back and posting "HULP FONE NO BOOT WUT DO NOW?!111" on the dev board.

Hahahaha.. Got your point.. I've seen such responses when I was reading posts related to s2 rooting.. Luckily for me rooting was a breeze.. I will try your suggestions once my friend gets the desire s.. So tell me.. Your ds was s-off or s-on? If on was there any particular thread that was the most helpful
Edit: ok... read the how to s-off guide.. man its painful
When I got my HTC Desire S I was lucky to have the Telstra pre-installed ROM, S-ON, no root etc. The bootloader was the first one .. (can't think of the version sorry), which at least made the process a breeze.
But literally I took the phone out of the box (brand new haha), turned it on, rooted it, installed recovery, and installed a custom ROM.
I did complete the process using a Live USB Ubuntu, I highly recommend doing it this way, as you won't experience any issues with drives etc. It does take away a lot of the hassle you see in a lot of the threads with phones not being recognised, and what-not.

Sure, not a problem. If your able to find out the Bootloader version, ROM version etc. it would help a lot as we can at least advise you as to what you need to do in order to complete a hassle free process ;-).
Bootloader - hold volume down button, then press power on (when the phone is switched off (make sure fast boot is disabled))
ROM version - Settings > About Phone > Software Information

never pull the battery out!!
I s-offed and rooted last week via revolutionary
Its said loads on here but you gotta read the threads, and the old hands get annoyed if you ask questions that have been asked loadsa times before!
Using ADB ive found its way easier to copy a cmd.exe into your android-win-tools folder so you dont need to keep navigating to that folder in cmd, assuming youre using windows
Background: I have only had basic phones in the past, I'm switching from VZW to TMo to use their $30/100 min. prepaid plan with my first Android device. I bought an HTC Sensation 4G (Used) under the impression that it had not been rooted. It appears it has been rooted and I would like to essentially restore it to "fresh out of the factory" settings if possible.
I realized something was up with the phone after doing a factory reset when I first got it, when it rebooted a screen with 4ext recovery (or something similar) came up that said something about the SD card. I couldn't get that screen to go away so I took out the battery and restarted it again. The 4ext screen didn't come back up. Some more looking revealed an app I can't uninstall: Superuser and the following device information:
Android version: 4.0.3
HTC Sense version: 3.6
Software number: Android Revolution HD 6.3.0 by mike1986 (apparently a native to this forum)
As well as some stuff about kernel, baseband, build, and browser. (If any of this information would be helpful to know and not be a waste of space I'd be happy to add it.)
The HTC support said try factory reset again, we don't support rooted phones. T-Mobile said maybe try theunlockr .com/2011/10/03/how-to-unroot-the-htc-sensation-4g/ but we don't support rooted phones, you could break your phone/computer if you do this, if you do break anything you're SOL.
So the question is: knowing the limited information above, if I follow the instruction at theunlockr (including their adb setup at theunlockr .com/2009/10/06/how-to-set-up-adb-usb-drivers-for-android-devices/ ) will that remove the mike1986, 4ext, and Superuser stuff and return the phone to an "original" state?
Thank you for the help...I feel way over my head. (Also sorry for doing the links like that, the forum wouldn't accept them because I'm new.)

you must connect the phone to bootloader first ...To reboot to bootloader remove your battery, reinsert, hold volume down and press power button. Do not release Vol down until booted into bootloader..
then connect your phone to pc (the phone then reads ..fastboot usb after this)
then run the RUU ..from pc (double click it )
If for some reason the RUU gets an error when running it through windows, you can just grab the rom.zip from the temporary files created when you start up the ruu and rename it to PG58IMG.zip and place it in the root of your sd card. Then boot into bootloader and accept the update.
Okay so I think I got the bootloader up. The top of the screen says -Revolutionary- with a pink background and the bottom has a skateboarding droid.
When I run the exe it says: ERROR [170]: USB CONNECTION ERROR and to check that the USB cable is connected to the phone and PC. Earlier I connected the phone to HTC Sync so I think the cable is okay.
I was going to try the second method of renaming a zip file, but I never saw one pop-up on the desktop...
Any ideas? Thanks.
Sorry, nevermind for now. I'm making progress. Didn't realize I needed to select Fastboot.
I think we have had success! The software info now says:
Android version 4.0.3
HTC Sense: 3.6

Okay, there is my problem ***(SOLVED)***
I got 2 HTC sensation 4G, First, lets call it: Alt. Had a broken screen, I bought a new one wich we'll call : Main.
Alt came with Hboot 1.18, was rooted using Revolutionary tools. Main had Hboot 1.27 so i used juop tool.
When CM10 came up, I started flashing daily on Alt to wait for a stable, nearly bugfree version of J-B to install on Main. However i always had the same issue : force restart every 10sec or so. After a week or so, I decided to try on my Main even if Alt had trouble. It ran perfectly! Except the little bugs CM10 still had at those time, but no restart at all .Since then I found out that Alt has all the trouble in the world for running any J-B Rom. CM10 is somewhat stable now, but camera and video camera restart the phone, too much request after sleep ( feels like a ''panic'' when missing memory, like if new Govs, werent supported)
Now I Installed Juop Hboot 1.27.1111 on alt as well and the problem persist. I figure my problem is the Radio, wich is now the only firware difference between both. Any Ideas?
I am sick of reading about piece of papers and battery connectors, if your reply has anything to do with cleaning connectors, wedging something in my phone or changing batteries, please sont bother. I got 3 stock battery, the behavior is the same with anyone of those, and the connectors are clean, thank you.

Just so you know, the problem with the connectors can be the phone, ever thought about that? Anyway, did it's screen break when it fell? If so, some internals might be messed up.

Sorry, I guess i wasnt clear enought. I should really point out that by : ''Since then I found out that Alt has all the trouble in the world for running any J-B Rom.'' I meant that every other GB and ICS rom was running perfectly with no restart.. Cm7 was running well for 5months, Only J-B roms shows this problem.
I am convinced that my problem is Firmware, and am only looking for a way to upgrade my Alt radio to the same as Main Or any other FIRMWARE related suggestion. I only created this thread because every others are suggesting physical trouble, play stay on Firmware topic.
Running ics you have two firmware choices 3.32 or 3.33. As for radios and ril I suggest you start with the generic ics radio and matching Ril file. Radio is flashed via pg58img, ril is flashed regularly. Do some experiment and see if that helps.

How do u think, this is the correct?

Hboot is 16.11.20.24_M in my phone, and there is 16.11.20.24_M too.
I can only assume you're from India (your link points this out), but I don't know your phone company.
Main thing is, just download (your) linked file and give it a try. If it's the wrong one, you simply won't be able to use it with your phone!
--- edit
just recognized it's hboot 2.15. Possibly it won't work with your existing 3.01 hboot (you mentioned radio version above, which doesn't matter). As said, just give it a shot. It'll simply not work in the worst case.

You could try to "hard reset" it.
Factory Reset

Basically, just factory reset from bootloader.
Otherwise, if none of the villeC2 RUU's will work, you could unlock, put a custom recovery on your phone and run one of the ROMs (even a stock).
