[Q] Car Charger issue - Samsung Galaxy S (4G Model)

So I was charging my phone using the car accessory from samsung (link). Bought it off amazon. But, the last time I remember charging it, when I disconnected the charger from the 12V line, I noticed a strong smell of burnt wires coming from it.
I didn't try to charge my phone again, I don't want my car or phone to burst on fire or something. I really know little about electrical stuff.

Maybe the charger was cheap and overheated, which maybe burnt the circuit wires. I don't know much either but I think that could be the problem. Maybe you can try to charge it once more, to actually see if it still works. It shouldn't do anything to your phone unless the microusb is like cracked or burnt. Lemme know how it goes.
If you really want to get technical, you can maybe dismantle the casing and see what the problem is.

Charging on a Motorcycle

Ok, I have a strange problem, and wondering if any of you have basic electronics knowledge.
I am trying to charge my blackstone on my motorcycle, but having some problems.
Setup:
- 12V cigarette lighter (power outlet) hooked directly to my battery.
I also have an inline switch and an inline 10A fuse.
- Standard USB car charger. (this charges my phone in a car just fine.)
Problem:
- It drains my phone battery very fast.
- I installed HomeScreen Plus so I could see the mA drain/charge on my battery. When I have the phone hooked to the bike and 'charging,' it reads +100 mA (charging) but the battery will drop down about 6% in about 5 minutes or less.
I am really confused by this...
Thanks for your time / input!
You should measure the amount of electric charge actually coming out from the outlet using a proper measurer.
is the battery in your bike good? ive seen bad batteries act this way. they seem normal and have the amps to start the bike but under any other load the voltage drops.
12.3V on the Power outlet and 4.9V on the end of the USB cable, which is why I am all the more confused.
I haven't tested the current yet, but that is slightly more difficult, as I have to disassemble it first. Although its not like I have any current limiting hardware in the way, its hooked directly to the battery (through the fuse)
Ill play around with it more tomorrow... :-(
If anyone has any ideas, let me know. Thanks!
Yea, the battery is good. Brand new. Cranks the bike and run all accessories just fine.

It's absolutly impossible that a bike's battery problem discharge your phone through the adapter.
I guess you should try another adapter.
I own a bike and i charge my diamond through a car to usb adapter too. The only problem i sometime ran into is that the phone get so hot that it disable the voltage input to preserve itself. It happen only when the phone is exposed to the sun through the plastic window of my tank bag.
I now own a bike "ram mount" with a native diamond holder, it's really great.

It should be a problem with D+ D- pin, if your adapter is specific to a phone model...
try another adapter.
I have tried 3 USB chargers, and all of them do the same thing.
the phone connects with a standard USB cable (mini-a?) I have tried with 2 or 3 actual cables.
I am planning to head out to NAPA, to get a new 12V connector and rewire it. This time I am going to get the 'sealed' one... *sigh* I will let you know if I figure it out or not. Hopefully its not the switch I have wired in... 10A switch, so I doubt it

Loose or bad charging port? Anyone know or have experience with this?

Charging port is loose and I have to push the charger in hard pull up and to the left and wrap the cord around it or hold it to get it to charge. I know there are many threads/youtube vids about this but nothing specific to the Charge.
This used to happen to my old droid x/x2 but a new charger would always fix it. I've tried about 8 different chargers and bought a new micro usb cord today with no avail. I ordered an actual nicer Samsung charger off of ebay (still waiting) but thinking at this point it won't help. It started by being loose, then having to lift it a little and has progressed over a few weeks to this point.
I'm wondering if I'm missing something and samsung chargers are slightly different in the port, if I can solder it myself, how difficult to do? I'd really like to avoid operating on it? What's going on at the pin level.
Thanks in advanced I'm pretty desperate at this point.

[Q] Random vibrations?

Having a bit of a strange issue where my Galaxy S3 will randomly vibrate/wake for no reason when plugged into a T-Mobile universal wall charger. Seems to happen when the phone is jostled or picked up; it will turn the screen on and vibrate as if I had a notification, but I don't. The charger is a little bit old, since it was purchased with a BlackBerry about 2 years ago, so perhaps that's the reason. I was just wondering if this is something to worry about, like my USB connector going bad or something. It doesn't seem to do this when plugged into other chargers (will occasionally do this when charging on the OEM Samsung dock, but rarely). Thanks in advance.

It could be the charger that you are using. I have the same issue using my old DX charger but not with the charger that came with the GS3. With the older chargers it tends to lose connection and the connect backup, as if you unplugged it and plugged it back in.
Yeah that makes sense; do you know if I might have damaged the charging port by using that old charger or is that unlikely? I haven't really noticed any other issues with charging so I'm hoping everything is fine. Made sure to stop using that charger just in case though.

I still use the charger, it's just not idea if you are looking at something when it is plugged in. As far as it damaging the port I don't think so, unless your trying to plug it in upside down!!
I think the charger that came with the S3 just fits tighter and the older chargers may just be worn down by use. That's just my thoughs!!

[Q] Need Replacement Charging Port

The tablet needs a new charging/interface port and was wondering if anyone knows where I can get one?
I have searched Ebay and the net for a used/new one. The port looks fine but when plugging the cable in it won't charge. Sometimes I can get it to if I push and hold it just right however this is tricky to do and does not work often. So right now it is a dead brick. The pins must not be making full contact for some reason.
Ive bought parts from these guys before, I don't see a charging port but might be worth giving them an email and asking

Thanks but I would rather not have to order parts from Sweden. If I have to I'll just keep watching Ebay. Every so often one pops up but doesn't last very long.
Good luck
The parts I ordered took about 4-6 weeks to arrive iirc
Just installed a new (used off Ebay) charging port with fingers crossed that it will allow the tablet to charge. I also have a new high quality charging cord (PWR+) and two ASUS wall chargers that I know work. Plugged the tablet in and was relieved to see the tablet come right on and show it charging. Let it charge to about 20% and then decided to unplug it so I could put the ring back on the tablet so it is all back together. Get the ring on and plug the tablet back in and nothing. I'm about to throw this thing in the trash right now. So fed up with these charging issues. What changed? All I did was unplug it, put the ring on, and plug back in.
So for kicks I decide to try the other wall charger and what do you know....it came on immediately and started charging and is still charging. I'm afraid to touch the thing now. Seems once it is charging and undisturbed it will charge to 100% no problem. However, when going to recharge it won't charge. Could there be something in the charging mechanism causing the thermal to trip in the wall chargers? Is there possibly a small short somewhere in the charging mechanism? Anyone have an opinion on why this is happening? Only other thing I can think of is doing a full wipe/reset and maybe flashing another rom (is currently on newest Android Revolution HD) once it is charged up.
Could the ring (I assume you mean Bezel ? ) or the screws near the port be shorting the charging port to earth/ground/chassis ?

Yep.. Sry.. The bezel. Not sure how but anything is possible. Would indicate to me a faulty charging port or charger cord and is happening on multiple. Tablet is still allowing me to charge it at this time after switching chargers and with the bezel on so will have to see how it goes.
Sent from my tricked out S4.
Fingers crossed it was a coincidence with the first charger, if not, I'd try taking the bezel off again and see if you can spot the short / see if it works again with the bezel off, or even just with the screws out

[TUTORIAL] I added wireless charging to my OnePlus 6

I've always liked the idea of being able to drop my phone on the desk or the side of the bed and let it slowly recharge without having to plug and unplug a cable. I also hate those bulky and ugly wireless chargers adapters that you connect to the charging port and slip them behind the case, since the adapter takes up the only charging port on the phone, and if you want to charge wired you have to unplug the thing before plugging the charging cable.
So, I bought one of those adapters, and fit it inside the phone, and it works great, and the phone doesn't get even a tiny bit warm during the charging period. I bought all the things on AliExpress, but you can find stuff everywhere online. Here's the links for all the materials and a video tutorial that I made:
Video tutorial
Charging receiver
Disassembly kit
Here's a soldering iron if you don't have one
A new back glass if you want to change it or accidentally break it
Sticker to stick the glass back on
Insulating tape
Remember that I did NOT do this project to turn it into a tutorial for other people, I just made it and then thought about sharing it, so only do this if you really, really know what you're doing, cause you might break something and I can't be responsible for that. I did this without even knowing if it was going to work or not, and it worked.
If you have any questions just ask, I'll try to help if you want to try this project for yourself.
Using vbus for chaging is clever, but is it triggering the overcharge protection? I mean does it stop charging after phone reaches %100? I will do it to my xiaomi mi 9 se, found that vbus and ground pins next to each other so it must be an easy install but i have doubts about overcharging the battery. Do you think is it going to be a problem? How is your device doing when it reaches %100?
