you mean /system and other non-user partitions? i believe clockwork mod can do that.

If youre meaning to format the sd card, just mount your device/sd card to your computer and go to my computer and format it there.

Nope we got the internal space mounted as sd-card in the transformer, the external as microSD...
How to format the sd-card (which is the internal storage on the transformer)

again, clockworkmod can format each individual partitions in the internal storage. if you're looking to completely wipe everything including the parition tables i think you'd have to look into nvflash with that.

Actually a "Factory Reset" in the Privacy settings DOES delete the internal memory (SDCARD), but not the MicroSD card in the side of the tablet, nor the external SDCard in the dock port, if you have them. An easy test of the internal memory is to take a photo with the tablet and then do a factory reset - the photo is gone after the reset. From what I can tell, all internal memory is wiped when doing a reset. This is different from most smartphones that separate the internal memory sections.
Also there is the data wiping option in the recovery mode, but I doubt it's really any different from a reset. Boot the device into recovery by turning off the tablet normally to shut it down, then to get into recovery press and hold the volume up and power buttons at the same time for several seconds and the menu will appear. From there choose "wipe data" option. The device will reboot normally after that and you're back at the initial setup screen.

How do you format Int and Ext SD from Xoom itself?

Interesting problem after updating to an ICS build but I need to format my Xoom completely and start again from scratch.
Only problem is, unlike other android versions, there doesn't seem to be an option under storage to format either of the on-board SD locations. I've tried the factory reset option but storage is still showing all my files there.
The removable card isn't a problem, I just take it out, format it and re-insert but the internal isn't giving me an option to format at all as far as I can see.
Is there a hidden method of doing this or am I being a bit thick and missing the obvious?
Thanks in advance...........

I don't think they will let you format the internal SD, but I've found it strange that they don't let you format the external one...

Don't do it. If you form Sdcard from Xoom, you will destroy your Xoom...total brick. Sdcard is internal (hard drive, if you will) and if you format that you will delete all you system settings, bootloader, os, everything.
Just wipe your data and then flash a new rom, which will overwrite whatever you want to get rid of.
Indeed it's weird - any ideas about how to format the external SD card ?
I can't seem to find an option to format the external card from within the system.

Make sure you are running HC 3.2 or higher. Anything prior to 3.2 does not allow SDcard usage.
Format your external SDcard, in your phone first. Then with the Xoom OFF, place the formatted SDcard in the Xoom and power it up. (give it a few seconds to show up in storage on your setting menu.)
(I found that formatting it in the phone ensures proper function and a lot easier.)
As always; If this was helpful, give thanks!

Mjamocha, Hows that 64 GB sdxc micro SD card working out for you.
I ordered one last week on Amazon. Should arrive tomorrow.
Anybody? I really would love the option to start clean again, a wipe of the internal SD.
Would re locking and then unlocking the boot loader accomplish this?
You could do that, but only relock if you are completely stock, with the right files for your device. Or you can do a complete wipe in fastboot mode, but you'll have to search for the exact command.

[Q] SD card encryption on ICS

Hi,
I would like to ask you how do you secure your SD card on your tablet? If I use pattern lock and connect my tablet to the PC it won't show the internal/external storage until I unlock my tablet. But if I remove the SD card the data are fully accessible from card reader on my PC. I have read that ICS should be support SD card encryption but I did not find anything how to do it.
Thank you

Try this app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jointlogic.bfolders.android&hl=en
Just put an encrypted folder on sd card and put everything you don't want people to have access too into it. 256-AES encryption too This also adds the benefit of having some encrypted some unencrypted files, and easily transferable.

Thank you. So if I want to encrypt and protect my data on sd card I have to use 3rd party software from Google play, right? What about tablet encryption option under settings-security? Does this protect internal memory only?

Afaik, yes, internal only
Not quite. Am on ICS/4.0.3 at the moment and you definitely get the option to encrypt both internal and external SD memory...

Yes indeed. Settings > Security > Encryption > "Encrypt Device" or "Encrypt SD card" options are there...I have encrypted both and am busy decrypting SD card now so I can flash another ROM...only problem is it takes a long time and should probably be one of those tasks that you schedule to run at 2am in the morning while you're sleeping! Decrypting a 16GB card has been going on for about 45min now and I'm only at 65%!!! I had the option to exclude media/multimedia files during encryption and I selected that option. So imagine how long it'd take if I had opted to encrypt those files as well...
Do you have TF101 version? On my tablet I can see ''tablet encryption'', ''sd card encryption'' is not there. I think this will encrypt internal memory only. I am running ICS 4.0.3 as you.
Sent from my Transformer TF101 using xda premium
My bad. I have the Transformer Prime and a Galaxy Note, and just verified now that the encryption menu as described above is available ONLY on the Galaxy Note. On the Prime I can confirm that I also have only "Encrypt tablet"...same as you do. Got caught and mixed up between posting in SGN and Prime forums...

Partition SD

I'm wanting to format my internal SD card and completely erase every single thing thats on it to start from scratch. I see in TWRP there is a section for partitioning SD. If I use this feature it should wipe my sd card and I can install a fresh rom right? What should I set the partion to? 2048? And use ext4?
I have a lot of junk on my sd that I no longer want and have been getting extremely annoying insufficient space errors when trying to install apps. I have a ton of space and am still getting errors. Just want to wipe it all, format the card correctly, and start over.
Please help I have tried seaching but nothing mentions TWRP or ext4.
Anyone? I don't have a personal PC right now as I'm building a new one, so I have to use my work comp. I have all of my info backed up at work and woud like to start restoring asap.
I am only here for another hour
Hey mate, there's no need to partition the SD card and format it for ext3 or ext4.
Just go into wipe and choose external sd card and that will wipe it for you.
Edit: You can also do it from within Android just go into settings > storage > erase phone storage

[Q] USB won't mount after TWRP wipe of Internal Storage + Android Secure

USB Storage and USB Debugging will not mount to Windows 7 PC or Mac
*I'm posting this thread because I have exhausted every option discussed on the internet*
One day I decided to wipe more than usual using TWRP. I wiped Internal Storage and Android Secure. Ever since then, I have not been able to mount USB to my PC. No PC computer on planet earth will recognize my skyrocket. "Unkown Device" is all I get. Every USB cable, every USB port, every PC, every Mac I have tried. I've tried every driver set, I've tried formatting my PC and reinstalling fresh samsung drivers, I've tried Kies, I've tried formatting my SD storage, I've fixed permissions and wiped everything known to Android. Odin will not detect the phone without working windows drivers and neither will SuperOneClick. I'm out of cards. Game over. Every other function of the device works just fine, and I've gotten by using my 64GB external SD card as a means to transfer files between PC and phone. Come to think, this all started when I put that 64gb SD card in my phone and tried to format it and everything else in TWRP. External SD card works, but nothing will mount.
Before I explore the final possibility that the USB plug on my phone is physically damaged, I'd like to know if anyone out there has had any problems with USB mounting as a result of TWRP wiping and/or External SD Card installation/formatting causing things to go awry.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. I will donate to anyone helps me solve the issue, as I need to be able to sell this phone with a clear conscience.
Thanks!
What version of twrp are you using. I saw another post where it wouldn't mount internal with 2.4.0.0. Seems it might be an issue with that version.

It was using 2.2.3 at the time. I feel strongly that this is an issue with formatting the internal SD card via twrp while adding an external SD card to the phone. I believe the system partition responsible for mounting the phone is corrupted. Maybe a re-partition is the solution? If I could somehow restore the system partition files. I am an avid flasher but partitioning is beyond my scope. Maybe someone can point me to a guide about partitioning.

Hey man did you ever resolve this issue? I just erased a bunch of folders on my internal SD and it won't mount anymore. I'm using a Droid4 and, of course, the problem is consistent on both ROM and stock.
I guess for now I'll have to download from my dropbox account.
Cheers
I'm on the Note 2 (N7100) and have the same issue. I formatted internal storage in TWRP. Now USB is not detected on any pc. Any updates?

Could my internal storage be dead?

Suddenly, from last week onwards, my internal storage seems to be having some problems.
It stopped working last week and is showing some very strange issues.
Under Settings > Storage, it only lists 1.45 GB of total space instead of the 8 GB it's supposed to.
Nothing gets mounted to /mnt/emmc
Using adb shell, nothing related to the internal storage appears when using the mount command.
Under CWM, I cannot mount /emmc
I've tried reflashing CWM and ROMs using NVFlash and still the same problem persists.
Every time I start Cyanogen Mod, the little "SD card is safe to remove" comes up
When I try to mount /mnt/emmc from Cyanogen Mod, it just brings up this message again.
Any opinions?
Thanks.
EDIT: It works now, I did a nandroid restore of the stock WIND firmware and that freed up /emmc... I don't know why this happened when all of my other efforts did nothing.
/emmc/ is your sdcard, not internal flash.
I've had CM7 corrupt my drive. Had to format and start over.

My Sandisk 8 GB class 10 microSD card become corrupted. Most files were OK but some jpg and a backup were unable to be read. When read/transfer/copy was attempted of the faulty files it locked up my computer. I tried various programs to fix and/or retrieve those files and tried a CHKDSK repair but those also locked up my computer so I saved whatever I could and did a full reformat, not the quick one, which completed without a problem and appears to work in the phone without any problem (yet?). You should do the same.
I lost my emmc early this year, think from flashing the wrong kernel. Couldn't find a way to recover. Will start doing more frequent external SD card backups.
Another odd thing I have is going into car mode even though I froze it with Titanium backup. Comes and goes with flashing different stuff. Recently flashed Mazout's on 2.3.4 and working good. But occasional BSOD that requires a battery pull and wipe Dalvik.

...Except no.
When my SD card was removed the problem persisted. Missing 5+ GB.
My SD card is 4GB... How could I be missing more than the capacity of my SD card?
/emmc/ is the internal SD card... the way this ROM manages internal storage. It is configurable in CyMod.
/emmc/ is my internal flash in this case, no doubts.
For anyone who is curious, be careful with mount commands as they will make recovery from this difficult and may be the cause of the problem.
