Has anyone found a way to keep the rom from overwriting the Lib.SwypeCore.so file upon reboot after installing the Swype Beta? I delete the old file from /system/lib and the apk from /system/app and then install the beta and it works fine until I reboot, then it replaces the old lib file over the new one and I get the old interface back. Anyone know if there is a backup of that file I can replace somewhere in the file system?
try uninstalling SWYPE and update SWYPE Installer to the latest version and re install SWYPE through SWYPE Installer...
You cant actually uninstall SWYPE, but I've temp rooted and deleted all the files from the system and then installed the SWYPE installer and the beta, it works up until I reboot then it goes back to using the version that came with the phone, 2.28 or something like that.

So I got frustrated with the laggyness/rebooting gallery3D and wiped data and uninstalled using titanium backup. I also deleted the apk in system/app.
I'm trying to restore it again but it doesnt work. I placed the apk back in the system/app and tried installing to no avail. I also tried just installing the apk but i get this will replace current + application not installed.
Any suggestions?
Also, when an official FROYO comes out and i install that, will that replace the gallery?
Just put the .apk back in /system/app from whatever ROM that's based on the same firmware.

HELP ME...
I have a Samsung Galaxy S2, running Gingerbread XWKDD, Android 2.3.3, Samsung's Touchwiz 4.0.
Rooted my SGS2 and got Titanium Backup, I uninstalled the clock app because I thought it was a widget and I didn't want to see alot of widget. Anyway, turns out the clock 1.0 is actually a system app by the name of com.sec.android.app.clockpackage
and titanium backup can't reinstall it, when i extract the .apk from the backup file and try manually installing, it doesn't install either, just says application not installed.
I also can't find this on Android market.
ok, so after some digging i found that com.sec.android.app.clockpackage.apk still existed in system/apps but just wasn't running. I also noticed for almost every .apk, there was a .odex. But for my clockpackage, there was no .odex, maybe that's why it's not working?
on that thought, maybe anyone here can copy their .odex files for the 2 clock .apks and send them to me? Just use Root Explorer to see the system/app folder, mount R/W if you need to, then copy the 2 .odex files and then upload them somewhere? Pls?!?
if you want root explorer, holla at me via pm
Hi,
I have the same problem with Contacts.apk (no .odex, Titanium or. RootExplorer can't install), so i can't open the number-pad to make a call.
I have tried to copy the backuped Contacts.apk manualy to /system/app, the rebooted, but it don't hlep.
Solved: I have Installed the VillainROM 1.0 and the app is back.
U tried reflashing your current rom??
Its the most clean solution... Because if you copy and paste from another device i'm sure about the system file its not going to work correctly(cache data from another device...mmm i think it will not work...)

I have a stock Sensation, temp-rooted, and have a couple of themed apps I like (TweetDark, Transparent G+). Using root explorer, I navigate to downloads on my SD, select the APK and select install. It prompts that the app will replace an existing one, keeping user data (normal). It asks me to accept permissions (normal). It says installing (normal). Then is says Application Not Installed with a Done button (definitely not normal). I have third party apps allowed, and it let me install an APK that wasn't an overwrite, so why can't I install my themed APKs? Any suggestions/information would be most helpful.

you cant because the stock rom is .odex you need to de-odex the rom or apk for it to work or backup both the apk and .odex files to your sd now delete the .odex file install your apk and reboot
Thanks for your answer. I was afraid it would be something like that. The phone's a loaner as part of a T-Mobile feedback program so I don't want to muck with it to much.

The installer tells the beta is unavailable for phones with swype preinstalled. Is there a way to force the installation over the preinstalled one?
Thanks

delete your swype and libswypecore.so and install the 3.25 using root explore or something similar. use the instructions from the bottom of the first post in lordrx666's thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1250180
but why use 3.25 beta when 3.26 beta is better? get it here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=19430356&postcount=33
and go here for other customizations for trace color: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1162558
* if your swype only comes as an apk and does not include the libswypecore.so, you can get it by making a copy of your swype apk, rename it from apk to zip, open it and go to lib/armeabi/ and you'll see it. copy it and paste it in the same folder as your swype, and rename swype back from zip to apk and you're all set for installing.
goto beta.swype.com and register...
download swype installer, install and follow instructions to download latest swype....enjoy

you need to uninstall preinstalled swype first
use titanium back up(rooted phones) to uninstall
then use swype installer to download latest version

Greetings everyone:
Yesterday, I updated to the latest Chrome on the RAZR HD MAXX with whatever the last Verizon software version is and then I used Titanium Backup to integrate into ROM so it replaced /system/app/ChromeSystemBrowser.apk with the new one, however when I open Chrome, I get the following message before Chrome just closes unexpectly:
"critical functionality required to run chrome is missing either your chrome installation is incomplete or not compatible with this version of android"
Replacing ChromeSystemBrowser.apk with either my previous version or even the one from the thread below still has the same exact error:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=33546113&postcount=10
Does anyone know how to fix this? As I already tried clearing data.
Have you tried moving Chrome back to a user app? I think I saw this on another device and had to move it back to a user app for it to work.

Already tried that but no luck, the ChromeSystemBrowser.apk in the other thread is supposed to be the stock on in /system/app although I don't know for sure if it's the right one for the latest Verizon Wireless software version of ICS or not which may be the problem. Seems like some apps will only work as a user app with the original stock/shipping version in system.

Thanks, the problem is not the apk as I tried your apk with the same problem so what I did was did a uninstall and then reinstalled it from Google Play so first it worked fine in /data/app before I moved it to /system/app to make sure it works again before renaming the file. So it appears for whatever reason, even after a clear data, a lot of things were missing in the /data/data/com.android.chrome folder which were needed. Strange the apk didn't install them until a uninstall/reinstall.

Ok, so I'm probably a little dense - so please excuse that.
I'm having the same problem with Chrome; runs fine in the data/app folder ... but refuses to open when in the system/app folder. Tried it as a odex'd file ... as well as the apk. Did the full uninstall, reboot, reinstall thing - as well as using two separate cache deleting programs ... and it still crashes on me when in the system/app folder (but continues to run perfectly if it resides in the data/app folder).
HELP! (thanks, in advance, for your assistance)
{And while I know I could leave it in the data/app folder, I'm looking forward to the JB update from VZW, and figure it'll crash if all the right apk's aren't where they're supposed to be}
Think I found my own answer

I think I discovered a solution - that may help others. It appears that, in the system/app folder, a number of programs have BOTH an APK and an ODEX file present. I dropped the 4.0.4 Google Chrome apk into system/app, then installed the app from there. Then I moved the data/app installed version of Chrome to the system/app folder as an ODEX file (thus there's the Chrome apk AND odex file in the system/app folder). With both files present, the updated Chrome application runs as an updated system app.

You may be correct but what is the name of the ODEX version of the file in /system/app since I was thinking about that before but never found an odex file since I did noticed the apk's people provided as stock is less than 8MB while the Google Play version is like closer to 20MB.
