[Q] HELP ME! I deleted a system app with Titanium Backup - General Questions and Answers

HELP ME...
I have a Samsung Galaxy S2, running Gingerbread XWKDD, Android 2.3.3, Samsung's Touchwiz 4.0.
Rooted my SGS2 and got Titanium Backup, I uninstalled the clock app because I thought it was a widget and I didn't want to see alot of widget. Anyway, turns out the clock 1.0 is actually a system app by the name of com.sec.android.app.clockpackage
and titanium backup can't reinstall it, when i extract the .apk from the backup file and try manually installing, it doesn't install either, just says application not installed.
I also can't find this on Android market.
ok, so after some digging i found that com.sec.android.app.clockpackage.apk still existed in system/apps but just wasn't running. I also noticed for almost every .apk, there was a .odex. But for my clockpackage, there was no .odex, maybe that's why it's not working?
on that thought, maybe anyone here can copy their .odex files for the 2 clock .apks and send them to me? Just use Root Explorer to see the system/app folder, mount R/W if you need to, then copy the 2 .odex files and then upload them somewhere? Pls?!?
if you want root explorer, holla at me via pm

Hi,
I have the same problem with Contacts.apk (no .odex, Titanium or. RootExplorer can't install), so i can't open the number-pad to make a call.
I have tried to copy the backuped Contacts.apk manualy to /system/app, the rebooted, but it don't hlep.
Solved: I have Installed the VillainROM 1.0 and the app is back.

U tried reflashing your current rom??
Its the most clean solution... Because if you copy and paste from another device i'm sure about the system file its not going to work correctly(cache data from another device...mmm i think it will not work...)

HELP Reinstall APK!!!

I have tried EVERYTHING I can read. For one thing, when I try
adb install TouchWizCalendar.apk
-> I get an error that says INSTALL_FAILED_DEXOPT
--> I have 64mb of phone memory, and my phone is rooted...
adb push TouchWizCalendar.apk /system/app
-> Permission Denied
I finally copied the TouchWizCalendar.apk back over along with the odex file to the system/app folder using Root Explorer, but the program isn't in my app drawer, and I can't even access it from my calendar widget on launcher pro.
Any help is appreciated... Thank you
EDIT:: I really don't care if it's the TouchWiz calendar that I install or the default stock calendar, I would just like A calendar... Any help is appreciated.. I'm still trying to get it worked....
EDIT::: I just checked logcat and I'm getting an error "Package does not include classes.dex" when trying to install. Anyone know why?
Okay, I figured it out... Sort of.
If anyone else gets this problem you should go to
forum.cyanogenmod.~com/topic/395-cyanogenmod-5-for-nexus-one-kang-central-station-v508-06192010/
Without the ~ before com. I can't post links.
Download Cyanogen's mod, and extract the file, navigate to system/apps and retrieve Calendar.apk and CalendarProvider.apk. Put those on your phone's SD card and install like any regular apk file.
This worked for me. It's not the TouchWizCalendar, but it's A Calendar, that is working atleast...
Have you tried moving the apk to the phone and installing from there and capture the log, it might give some useful information

[Q] Ooops...deleted gallery how to get back?

So I got frustrated with the laggyness/rebooting gallery3D and wiped data and uninstalled using titanium backup. I also deleted the apk in system/app.
I'm trying to restore it again but it doesnt work. I placed the apk back in the system/app and tried installing to no avail. I also tried just installing the apk but i get this will replace current + application not installed.
Any suggestions?
Also, when an official FROYO comes out and i install that, will that replace the gallery?
Just put the .apk back in /system/app from whatever ROM that's based on the same firmware.

Help- How do I reinstall stock calendar- nothing working

Ok here is the info
1. LG EVE aka LG GW620 phone is rooted with android 1.6
2. I COPIED some apps from /system/apps dir I thought I could move to the sdcard
3. I copied the Calendar.apk and 3 other calendar xxx.apk and .odx to the sdcard
4. I DELETED the apps that I copied from /system/apps
Problem: It seems that I need to have the stock calendar in order for any calendar widget to work.
So, how do I fix this item.
I also moved some files that seems to stop me from opening the market or connecting with Dolphin Browser. I will fix those the same as the calendar issue.
I tried to copy and past back all of the files from the SDCARD back to the /system/apps directory but no luck. They went back but I notice the permissions are not r-r-w and also it shows the owner as 50 or sdcard or system INSTEAD of ROOT.
Thanks for your help.
anyone???
There has to be a simple way for me to copy back the original files from the SDcard back into the /system/apps dir.
Why is it so difficult to install a simple calendar app?
I tried installing the 2 calendar .apk for 1.6 files that I found but it just says this can't install on this phone.

Mini Diary apk

Hey so I was hoping you could help me out. I had a bunch of stuff saved in my mini diary when I flashed 2.2 for Continuum. The new ROM didnt include this app and I lost it. I have the data saved with Titanium backup but it didnt save an apk.
If anyone has the apk that would be awesome.
download the EC07 Clean zip, unzip it and grab it out of there, along with any other stock app you need
Alright so I went out and got the apk from the EC07 clean however when I try installing it I get Application not installed.
I then tried putting it in system/apps which makes it show up however when I run the app it always force closes.
Help me out?
weird, ummmm, flash EC07-Clean? idk I've never used mini diary, just always deleted it first thing
You need to manually put it in /system/app of course, you need root for that

If its fc'ing on a manual push to system/apparel, id flash the clean Ron, back up the app with titanium backup, reflash Nickinson ember and restore. Just remember to wipe dalvik after each flash

Alright got it figured out. I noticed some of the permissions got changed when I copied it into system/app so I changed those and it now works! Thanks for the help everyone!
i'm having the same problem on my Samsung Galaxy S2 for T-mobile. I tried both ways to restore it, via Titanium Backup and manually moving the APK file to system/app. i got the same "App not installed" message.
What exactly did you change on the permission? Did you change it in Super Manager? Can you post it step by step. How do you even change the permissions? Sorry, i'm a noob here.
Thanks for any help.
I used root explorer to push it into the system/app folder. Upon pushing the apk the permissions were rwxrwxrwx
Once the apk was in the folder I change the permissions to rwxr-xr-x or
Owner: read write execute
Group: read execute
Others: read execute
To change the permissions in Root Explorer you just push/hold the apk in the system/app folder and then select permissions.
hmmm...... i did exactly as you did. changed permission the same as you had it. still no luck. i even turned off phone and rebooted. Can anyone help?

I lost original system app: text messaging app, can anyone email me the backup?

Hi all,
In order to show the SMS's sent timestamp, I replaced the system's messaging app with handcent message. I backup all the following apps with Titanium backup, and uninstall them by Titanium uninstalling function.
Conversations.apk
Messaging.apk
MessageWidget.apk
UniversalInbox.apk
But the Titanium backup failed to restore the system messaging app after experiment. When i want to restore the apps referred ahead, the Titanium frozen.
And I extract all the apps from a ROM, and want to restore them by "Systemapp Remover". The remover show success, and i reboot the phone, but nothing changed. and i found in the systemapp remover interface, all the 4 apps' status were "disabled".
I think a backup from a running Atrix 2 will help my restore all the apps.
so does anybody can backup all the four system apps by "Systemapp remover", zip the SD:\SystemAppBack folder, and email the zipped file to me. and i will try restore them.
Thank you in advanced, i do not want to reflash my phone. Thank you in advanced.

First off, you should never uninstall or delete system apps, you should always freeze them, that way if you have a problem and need them later you can just defrost them.
Second, the core phone apps like messaging and dialer should never be frozen or removed, they are needed even by replacement apps such as Handcent.
Third, you can get those apps from any ROM that still has the stock apps such as SCv6 or better yet the Stock Monster which is in the Themes and Apps section. Just download, then unzip the ROM and go to the /system/app folder. If you get it from a de-odexed ROM just grab the apk files, if you get them from an odexed ROM (such as The Stock Monster) make sure you grab both the apk and the odex files for each app.
Lastly, please research before doing things to anything in the /system folder...messing up something there is a sure fire way to get stuck in a bootloop or softbrick.

Wait! The (now defunct) Stock Monster doesn't have those apps... Try Romulus if you are still on stock odexed, or Remus if you are deodexed - they both have most of the stock apps.
Also, you need the classes.dex file in the deodexed apks, so you couldn't just grab the apks only from the Stock Monster anyway if you are deodexed.
In fact, are you odexed or deodexed? I could throw those apps in a CWM recovery zip real quick for you...
Hi alteredlikeness,
Thank you so much.
but i used systemapp remover instead of recovering the zip file sent by you. But the same, all the 4 apps restored, but status were "disabled" even if rebooting the phone.
I'm wondering whether there was a file recorded the system files' hashing key? so i restore the file with system app remover always fails.

I have no experience with systemapp remover.. did you try to flash the zip through cwm recovery?
My thought is maybe the permissions are not correct.. you can check and change the permissions with root explorer, or use the "fix permissions" option in cwm recovery.

Browse the /system/app/ directory with Root Explorer, all the 8 files permission were correct, and i reboot the phone, but all the apps were still disabled.
Thank all, i had recover all the files from a backup files from the same version. Maybe android will check the system apps' version or MD5 hash.
