[Q] "Official Gingerbread leak"? - Milestone 2 Android Development

Hi people,
Does anyone know about this thread? http://rootzwiki.com/showthread.php?t=3406
Came to this link through a post from a brazilian blogger who says this is compatible with Milestone 2 (A953), but I'm not sure about that...
The poster says this is an "official Gingerbread leak" and it looks real... but after reading half of the replies (that's over 14 pages!) I still don't know if this is meant for A953 too - the pics and information only refer to A956 (Droid 2 Global / Verizon).
My question is: may I try this file in my Milestone 2 (A953) or will I brick my phone?
Thanks!

The main reason why we didn't have a GB rom for so long is because D2 roms aren't compatible with M2. You can flash them, and the phone will boot, but GSM radio won't work and there is no fix. But fortunately we already have our own GB leak, and there are some good ROMs based on it.

Nice! Thanks for your quick response, I will notify the poster of that blog.

Just one last question: is this statement true? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=16914333&postcount=7
Thanks!

Why the double post?

My bad. I didn't know where to ask about this then decided to create a new thread, dumb choice, because after that I came across the other thread.
So, if applicable, mods please delete this one

Maybe...
As I know GSM on D2G is just a plugin to CDMA.
Well Mile2 has a mapphone_cdma.init.rc (something like that) script on the kernel, someone has to try it out.
Sent from my Milestone 2 XDA App

Right... so I'll leave this to the pros, because I wouldn't know even where to start
And does this discussion bring any new ideas to the existing Gingerbread on M2 efforts? I've been watching this development section for a while and noticed that there are many mods based on the chinese leak, but I haven't seen anything mentioning this so-called "official leak"...
The original thread in rootzwiki.com is recent (first posted in Aug 21) and I thought that this could be useful for you developers.
I own my M2 for about a month now and I still don't know much about hacking its system. So I can't help as much as I would like to.
Thanks again!

Why posting here? This isn't development at all. Also..the name thread..be careful with the acronyms

Clean this forum up

I'm sorry if I'm telling people what to do but this forum is ATM to messy.
The moderator should clean it up by pinning the guides to the top and making a "Rom bible" thread where we could locate all the different ROM's.
FAQ thread should be made as well.
I was hopping that we could help the admin with this and not just complain about the situation. So here I start (Please fell free to correct and add things):

ha ha i think that was funny. Functionally this is very useful. What aplhabet priority will you give to arrange it. Just continue with what you have started I hope the Mods take note of this.
Yeah i agree with the op, i hope mods will take care of it!
All you had to do was ask
I'll get this done today or tomorrow. Appreciate the help in getting the links together. I don't have a Defy, so I'm not familiar with all the procedures etc...
I'll definitely do an "FAQ" type thread for all the main guides.
I'm not 100% sure about a ROM list as that is something that will always be changing and require update all the time. I think it may be easier just to let users find their own ROMs?
Opinions?
That would be cool!
Maybe you could include a link to the wiki page. It would than be easier to keep the ROM list up-to-date.
PS: You can find the Defy wiki-page at http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/index.php?title=Motorola_Defy
I added the links to the wiki page.
OK, seems good, so the ROM part is done aswell.

It would be workable but it would need two things - ideally a Mod dedicated to the Defy section or at least actively monitoring it and secondly when someone starts a new thread about a ROM, to PM said Mod so that they weren't having to constantly trawl through the section to check for them.
I also think it would be useful is all thread titles were formatted similarly - if it's a ROM, start with [ROM]; if it's a guide, start with [guide] etc etc.
That and trying to keep question threads out of here, have them all moved to the general section.
In fact, now that I think about it, isn't it possible to have it so that any new threads hidden until authorised by a Moderator? That way any threads purely asking questions could be weeded out immediately and, indirectly, the/a Mod would end up aware of any new threads that needed to be added to a FAQ/sticky thread and also fix any badly-formatted title.
I know it would potentially add a slight delay to new threads appearing if there were an Mod actively monitoring the Defy section it shouldn't be too bad.
Sorry for just suggesting ways to increase your workload but I'm just thinking out loud...

I'm happy to keep a list of ROMs up to date if I get help in being informed of any new ones etc....I visit all my allocated forums MANY times per day (probably more than I should, even at work ), so that's not a problem. I'm always just a PM away, any time of day or night, unless I'm asleep
Because I visit all my forums so often, there's rarely a time when there are any question threads in the dev section...I like to move them as soon as I see them, so thats another issue I am managing no problem.
I was considering implemeting the same method as you suggested, using the [ROM], [Guide] etc tags in each thread title as they work well in other forums. I'll create a sticky with more information tonight after work.
The Defy forum has become a lot more populated over the last month or so, which is why things are getting a little more cluttered, so hopefully we can all work together and keep it clean and structured
Please feel free to suggest anything else you think will improve the forums

Sorry, didn't mean to suggest otherwise.
I just wasn't consciously aware of you having been around here and also since you're managing 9 sections eek, I thought maybe it would be unfair to ask so much.
I mean, I've done the moderating thing (elsewhere) but I doubt I could've dealt with that sort of load.
About moving questions away from the Dev section, I had also wondered if it might be worth having a sub-section for questions rather than throwing them into the General section, that way it's easier for people to see if a similar question had already been asked.
But I guess most of the questions will be about particular ROMs/Guides etc and will therefore be asked in that thread, so maybe that'd be unnecessary...
Nah nah, it's ok, I know you didn't imply anything
Yea, it's a difficult one with question threads...most of them are related to ROMs or a particular ROM...and if not they are usually general enough to be put into the General forum, which is intended for general chit-chat on a device, or questions.
Some mods like to have a Q&A dedicated sticky thread in the dev section, but im not a big fan of these.
I think the FAQ/Guide sticky should help somewhat in reducing the number of question posted in the dev section.
I was thinking, some sort of Glossary/FAQ thread/post would also be quite useful.
Terms like 'ClockworkMod' and so on get thrown around and whilst there is a thread on how to install it, there isn't really anything that explains clearly to people starting out what it is.

That's maybe a bit much...we can't go spoon feeding everyone. Clockworkmod is covered over many devices in xda forums. Search is a very handy tool
But if somone wants to write something up, please fell free

Just bought my Droid Charge today, and ...

... no likey TouchWiz. AT. ALL.
So, I have a few questions:
1) I am currently on Firmware Version 2.2.1. Is this the "ED1" or "ED2" that I see listed in various postings?
2) I want to root - Real bad. I need to restore my apps & settings from my old Droid using MyBackupRoot. But, I also want to be able to unroot, if necessary - in case I need to return the phone. Can I root/unroot easily at this time?
Thanks!
¿GotJazz?
Be prepared, guys are gonna blow you up for asking this question!
You can root and you will need more info on what version you have ED1/ED2.
LOL @ 2.2.1!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Maybe you can read the forums or do a search.
Hey psalm462. how you doing? get your Droid Charge yet?
I *did* do a search before posting. Do you know how many posts (useful or otherwise) there are out there on this topic?
I saw earlier, my in my Settings >> About phone >> Build Number is SCH-i510.ED2 I'm assuming that means I'm on "ED2".
Regarding the rooting, I found this thread: HERE. This is for phones already on ED2.
Regarding the unrooting, I found this thread: HERE. You downgrade to stock ED1, and then take the OTA update to ED2.
GotJazz- Check out the development forums for the Charge. There are many threads regarding rooting/un-rooting.

Am I missing something here? The link above points to the Infuse 4G forum. I was not aware that the platforms were the same. If that is the case, then we have a working CWM mod ported from the captivate and a whole host of other roms to try.
If not, then somebody just borked a phone.

Availability of Official Firmwares for Atrix 2

I search the entire threads for Atrix 2 and i could not find something related to my inquiry so i decide to make a new thread (hope no problems will cause)
some of the old members they might know the problem i face very recently with my Atrix2 (yesterday because i was messing arround and trying to flash the Razr Rom into the Atrix ----Complete NooB), so i have a simple inquiry and i will appreciate it deeply if i could get a support on that.
i would like to know how many Signed Official Firmwares are Available for the Atrix2
as of now i manage to get the Chinese version(complete useless) and the US ATT version (best option but locked for ATT users only)
if in case something more is available can i request please to be uploaded it somewhere in here
i am not interested on customs Rom since the phone it self is very beautiful inside and outside.
Maybe this thread will be useful for other Atrix2 user too who might facing similar problems with me ( soft brick )
Thanks
George
This is posted in the wrong area, this belongs in the general section. This is also technically a duplicate post as MANY have asked this same question about official firmware, no matter which version.
MODs please move this to the general section.

Yes; anything that is development related, actual "hacks", ROMs, rooting, bootloader unlocks, etc. Go in the development section of the Atrix 2 forum, and and any questions, and requests and general talk of of things not really development related belong in the general section.
It might be a good idea to read the noob thread, and the rules.

Nope, but you might PM daywalker04, he is who got us our US version fxz. He will ask you to retrieve several files off your phone and install an upgrade program, that will give him a log file of what to look for.

Know your Atrix 2

Ok, there have been lots of threads lately on things that A2 can/cant do. And also how to? Why isnt? questions. In this thread i will try to explain few things, to the new to A2 and new to the community members.
1. Memory cards:
This must have been the most discussed topic on the forums, our beloved Atrix 2 has issues with class 10 memory cards, period. Few people are trying to resolve the issue with work arounds, but none seems to be successful.
(need to know what this class is all about? refer this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Secure_Digital#Speed_Class_Rating)
2. Bootloader:
The bootloader is locked. If you want to know what bootloader is then refer to the noobs guide here (this should be the first thing that you should do after signing up with xda)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1396650
and what does a locked bootloader mean to us noobs? it means no custom kernels which means no CM9/10, MIUI ports. So please dont ask for them.
Jimmy273 and Jimbridgman, the great grand dad of all A2's development are working on unlocking the bootloader, you can follow their work here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1328714
and my piece of advice just follow dont ask for ETA.
3. Official ICS OTA:
Well all the info the devs here have at the moment is exactly what you have, Q3 of 2012. If you have any further info you are welcome to share it. But there are already threads on "Motorola has updated their site reg ics updates" post there.
4. Miscellaneous:
If you have any doubts about changing certain settings, do the old school thing, refer to the users manual. Then refer the "Get Help" section in the motorola website.
go to the motorola mobility's website of your country, find your mobile then get into the get help section, look into faqs.
EA Games: As part of their Atrix 2 promotion campaign, Motorola India is offering 10 EA games for free, you need to download Redemption app from the market. And after that you can select 10 EA games from the listed games. Remember you still need to download game data for the games, which varies from 15mb to 500mb depending on the game title. And if you are not happy with the 2GB memory card then, it would be safe to get a new memory card then download the games and game data.
5. ICS leaks :
My piece of advice: Take a look at my signature which says "still on GB" despite all the temptations and all the leaks, i didnt flash any of the leaks. Why? simply because i know i may get into trouble, with my limited knowledge. If you are also a noob like me, hold your temptation for a little more time, the people who have flashed the leaks say its very stable, so official OTA may not be that far.
Still interested? Ok, if you are using AT&T A2 then please stay away from the leaks at least until some one finds a way with the back to 2.3.5 as some members have reported hard bricks trying to that exact thing. Need to know some more info, follow this thread. Thanks to farshaad for the heads up..
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=29011591
First of all there two versions of A2 with some hardware differences, MB865 and ME865, determine which one you have, check you device settings to know that. And those who are on SEARET or MEARET, you may be safe with the procedures discussed in these threads.. still only proceed if you know what you are playing with.. cause "help me i am stuck at a triangle logo with exclamation mark.." clearly tells that you havent followed the guide. Which makes the devs, a little frustrated.. any ways these are the threads..

A better tip(s) would be search before posting (aka rule #1), and/or read before attempting anything you find in this forum. This is not new information. It is well known in this forum that you cannot flash back to GB from ICS on an AT&T Atrix 2. Reading would've prevented you from making that mistake and searching would've kept you from repeating what is already known to those of us that do read.
P.S. Sorry about your phone.
