[Q] GB front facing camera issue - T-Mobile LG G2x

Hello, im new to the G2X but coming from the Hd2 im pretty familiar with rom flashing and what not so yesterday i flashed WeaponG2x rom to my phone, but the lg camera was super dim on my screen. so i flashed the stock camera which fixed the dimness, but now the FFC photo quality is super poor Is there another camera i can use that will give me decent quality FFC pics? on the HD2 i used the MIUI camera, is that possible on the G2X? or can anyone recommend one from the market? thanks

Not sure if you are actually experiencing an issue. The FFC has significantly less resolution than the rear camera so image quality will be much lower.

thats what i was thinking too at first but the pics look actully kinda staticy not just blurry. the pics come out so bad theyre pretty much useless
Sent from my HD2 using XDA App

that "statis" is due to the crappy image sensor. nothing u can do about it.

Try taking a picture in daylight outside. Should be better.

I am having the same issue after updating to Weapon G2x 2.4 Rom. Its great because I finally got the original LG camera back, but the FFC when in camera mode shows the picture in a horizontal layout while I am holding my phone in a veritcal position. Also, when in Camcorder mode the video start cutting out (green screen, static, lines, etc.) unless pretty much. I wonder if this would be fixed down the road and hopefully they dont remove the original LG Camera. I noticed the developer has a link to update to Gingerbread camera. I am new to all this and is my first time flashing a phone due to (LG/T-Mobile) allowing such a bad product to be sold.

You have to wait for update

Yeah the LG camera is still a work in progress they are definitly aware of it. They will have it fixed. You can follow progress if you go to the development section and find the post for stock froyo camera on gingerbread. then you can update yourself when they come out with the next version. I am using the LG camera on zboarders stock tweeked rom and the only issues really are like you said the FFC is horizontal and in video mode the zoom only works wile not recording. If you press the vol up\down while recording it shows the zoom bar but it doesnt zoom. And if you notice most video cameras dont do that anyway. I have not experienced the cut outs or green screens yet but I also dont shoot alot of video. Here is a link to the dedv page for the LG camera http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1166531

XT720 camera quality

Is there any way to improve camera? I had XT720 before a half year, picture quality was a horrible. Now with the custom ROM, brings step to improve quality?
Can someone post pictures from camera?

I guess there have been no major changes to the camera. Actually the stock 2.1 camera is better than on any of the custom ROMS. Camera picture quality depends on the amount of light and the correct settings. I wouldn't describe it as horrible but you sure need to tweak everything to get a good picture.
I've attached some pictures I took recently. The first is using the macro setting. I was fixing my friends les pauls toggle switch and changing the pickups. A few flower and weird pod pictures. And the last one is of my place and the lawn outside. Maybe you guys can comment on the quality.
EDIT: Im on WanHU's rom stock with these photo's.
As per my experience, the phone is great with macro mode shots but when it comes to landscape photography it doesn't provide quality snaps. They are average just like the ones taken with my old Nokia N85 ( 5MP camera)
Here are few samples taken with XT720.
I find the camera performs pretty well here... On ESB (2.1) right now.
I'm going to chime in here and say I get great pictures with this phone - though there is a slight delay - so shooting my son on the run is hard (he's gone when it snaps!). Though I don't always shoot on automatic, and I hold the button to allow it to focus. I do get a lot of red-eye, but software can fix that (though, the software makes my son's eyes black, and they are blue )
I came to ask about the recording aspect and am hi-jacking this newer thread - what about that? I'm now running RusMod 1.9 with the US/Eng patch and am still getting the noise/lines in the recording. Here is an example of a bad one;
Can't post links yet.. check Henzod on Youtube
But I don't always get it...
Can't post links yet.. check Henzod on Youtube - Poncho video
(Don't laugh, it was just a test video lol)
Is there an alternate Camera.apk to install or something else to fix to get this working again?

I get shutter lag also, but only really on the first shot when loading up the camera. Once the camera is loaded up properly, snapping pictures is actually surprisingly fast for me.

I did some research on that. It isnt the camera loading up but the xenon flash charging. If you take pictures in conditions where flash is not required it happens instantly. Apparently the xenon gas has to be at a specific charge for the flash to work

Well, whatever the case, it's nice once it's charged.
Well, I find the camera useless for taking photos of my daughter because of the lag and that's all I really cared about camera-wise, so I'm not too pleased with the camera performance. It's too slow to capture spontaneous things.

Takes me 3-5 seconds to snap a pic from another app on ESB generally...
No, what I mean is you press the shutter and the phone contemplates its navel for a few seconds and she's moved already. So you're cajoling her to smile at the camera and she finally does and you hit the trigger and watch as she moves out of frame/closes her eyes whatever before the photo gets taken.

To an extent I find that's true of most low/mid point & shoot cameras. For quick camera response nothing beats the dSLR with a fast lens but that's not always available.

Yeah, that does happen sometimes. Once the xenon flash is warmed up, that doesn't usually happen.

This doesn't happen on the Moto Defy either (can tell you out of experience) and that is mid-end phone.
I'm with Mz on this one i bought that @#$ing Moto for the cam and i am alwase missing those fast ones
I tried everything to get the cam faster, i made a litle progress.
Precharging the Xenon is really bad on the batterry so can't do that
#@$%ed we are....
To be fair, the xt720 is a phone first and camera second.
But I do agree, the shutter speed is sloooww

Okay, but it's got a promised 8 MP camera, which actually takes great shots if the subject is still life and a lot of the slowdown is not the xenon flash (though, as noted above, some is, understandably - though xenon was a selling point...) but the software itself. This has been demonstrated over and over with the updates we get to the ROMs - some are better at photos and video, some are worse.
Still - why do my videos look so horrible while there are demo videos on YouTube that look amazing?
I was reading a review the other day and I saw the reviewer mention that getting a better SD card can improve HD video recording (which has often lagged). I saw a comment by Motorola on a youtube video saying the same thing.
I'm sure this has come up before, but I can't remember the conclusion. Does a better SD card provide improvements?

Yep. A better SD card obviously has a higher Class (like yourself). And as we all know the higher the Class the faster it reads/writes to the card. The faster the r/w the better the quality of fps and output. I have a 32gb Class 10 card and 16gb Class 6 card and to tell you the truth, I really don't see too much of a difference as far as Pix go. Video on the other hand is a whole different ball of wax. I get way better video on the C10. Don't forget the SDcards they come with are garbage, Class 2's. Take a C2 and compare with a C4 or C6 and it is apples to oranges.
I'll try out my class 4 (but only 4gb) SD card soon. If I do notice better camcorder quality maybe I'll have to consider spending a few bucks for a better SD card... Though I don't know about a 32gb class 10. I looked at the prices for something like that in my nearby electronics chain and they charge about $150 for that lol. I might as well save that money for a new phone.

[Q]Camera Calibration

Hi, i'm using Eagleblood 1.8 right now and i've been having this issue with my camera. The front facing camera screen is always tilted at a 180 degree angle (so your face is sideways) and the rear camera looks normal, but most of the pictures come out upside down when you go back to review them.
It's not a huge problem but just a bit bothersome. I was wondering if it was a screen calibration issue, but it seems like the g2x doesn't have any settings to recalibrate from what I read here. What do you all think?
If im not mistaken gingerbread comes with this preinstalled. It's still in beta. Flash this to restore the stock camera.

Blurry camera images.

Is anyone having issues with the camera? When I pinch to zoom in, I find the camera not properly focusing. This seems to occur no matter if it on single shot, hdr, etc. Its not ALL photos, just moist of them. Used to have thunderbolt and did not experience this type of issue there. The reviews praised the s3 camera, so i am disappointed. Anyone have any advice? Thanks

Unfortunately I also am experiencing this same problem. I dont have a real solution but to use an alternative camera application, and hope it helps.
Try a diff gallery. I found sometimes the gallery will not focus in. Although sometimes I have found myself dissapointed in the camera. There are 2 different cameras in the s3 one is app lower quality.

You're not alone! The camera is almost always blurry for me, and sadly, bad enough for me to say this camera SUCKS. I really hope this is a firmware issue.
I've looked at the pictures on my computer as well, and they're just not nearly focused.
+1 on all of it for me
So let me get this straight:
While you're in camera mode, about to take a picture, and you pinch to zoom-in, the photo gets blurry?
Or are you talking about in the gallery when you pinch-to-zoom on a picture you've already taken?
If it's the former, I believe it's one of two things: 1) firmware issue, or 2) hardware issue. If it is indeed a hardware issue, you can probably get a replacement free of charge from Verizon.
If it's the latter, I think you just have to wait a few seconds for the phone to show you the high-res version instead of the low-quality blurry snapshot.
My sister has the same issue on her Galaxy Nexus. But I'm assuming that's not the case, since the blurriness usually goes away in a matter of seconds?
I've found the camera pretty crummy in anything but full-light settings. It's really frustrating.

That statement pretty much applies to any camera/phone.
One thing you guys might want to try is using the app "CameraFX"
CameraFX has a pretty cool feature that allows you to take a pic by voice activation. I find the camera phones are much harder to hold steady and take a clear shot than a real DC (& I'm a pro photographer). Using the voice activation allows you to hold the camera super steady & then just say a word like now or smile etc when you're ready to take the shot.
I have my camera set to take a shot with the volume button, but the voice activation is still easier to use IMHO.

This camera doesn't focus properly. Period. I'll do side-by-side shots with my Rezound and iPhone. The GS3 camera is woeful in anything but full, natural light.

I agree that the Rezound camera is better, I have three Rezounds & the camera is super (for a phone camera).
I really have not had any focusing issues with the G3 although I don't use it a whole lot because I usually have access to a real DC.

That's another issue entirely, the Nexus is notorious for having an atrociously bad camera.
+1, I have noticed that a lot of my pics are coming out blurry, I thought it was maybe because the camera was sensative to the slightest twitch and that I was maybe moving it mid shot.

I think it is to some extent, turn on anti-shake, but that doesn't totally fix it. It's pretty frustrating that this phone seems like a step backwards in terms of camera.

I'm not talking about the camera quality, itself. I mean in the gallery, when you're looking through pictures you've already taken, the pictures are a bit blurry at first, but then clear up into the original (higher) resolution.

It is the former. I tried camera 360 today and photos seemed ok. That app only alows 2x zoom. I was outdoors photographing dinosaurs in full sun. Perhaps i try another photo app, camera fx or something like that and see how it goes. Thank you for the reply. As I see I'm not the only one with this issue, I'm glad that we can discuss it and see what helps for us.
Camera Zoom FX as mentioned is a good alternative, for me I think the instant shutter makes it more blurry because you don't have any time to steady the camera after pressing the button. Camera Zoom has a slight lag. I would also try ProCapture, which I think does a better job than Camera Zoom but YMMV.
Camera sucks.. Period.. Pictures are horrible for an 8mp camera..

[Q] Camera settings?

I've had the Blaze for a few months, and I am pretty unimpressed with the camera. It's hard to believe that it's not as clear as my former phones, which were the Mytouch 3G, Motorola Defy, and HTC Amaze.
I'm in the auto parts business and one of the most common uses of my camera is to take a picture of a vehicle registration to keep it for reference. With the Blaze camera, when I zoom in, the text is unreadable. With my older phones the text was always clear enough to read easily. I've tried the camera using the stock ROM and with CM10. I didn't notice a difference between the two.
Does anyone know if the limitations of this camera is the hardware or the software? If it's the software, can you recommend a better camera app or what camera settings have worked for you? Thanks
Me again.
The issue really seems to be that the camera will not focus, regardless of which focus mode I choose. I've tried many camera apps and, like I said, both the stock ICS and CM10.
I tried googling my problem and saw some posts of people having the same problem with the S2, but I didn't see any good answers.

I use Camera Zoom FX. Works great and has lots of options including storage location. It also has some options for auto focus. I have mine set to focus before picture is taken. My pictures come out quite nice.
I just tried Camera Zoom FX, but it still won't focus. Seems like it may be a hardware issue.

I know this will sound stupid, but is the original protective plastic piece still covering the lens? Or is there any smudges on the lens? If that isn't it then you likely have a hardware issue. You will need to flash this first and then odin back to stock (see here or just download the latest firmware from sammobile.com and odin flash it) before sending it out to have any warranty work done on it.
The plastic is definitely off and the lens seems clear. Seems to be a hardware fault.
I sent an email to Samsung detailing my issues with the focus. They wrote back and explained how to use the settings for the flash. They're both F words, so I understand their confusion. Will call them when I have some time.
Thanks for the links on how to return to stock.

Doogee mix 2 - camera

Hi guys,
I appreciate that this is a specific Mix 2 question but couldnt see a mix 2 section yet to post in.
I recieved my Mix 2 about a week ago and my first impressions are that its a great phone - it does everything I want....... apart from when it comes to the cameras.
Firstly, the quality is pretty bad and a large step back from the oppo find 7 I am switching from. Both front and rear facing cameras fail to properly focus and always seem to take photos like there is a dirty lens, a sort of soft look, most obvious when photographing text, which just isnt sharp at all.
Secondly, it appears that the second rear facing camera doesn't do anything - is it even real?!? I believe its there for the optical zoom option, but even when you zoom in with the camera app, you can still cover this camera and it has no effect on the photo, therefore it is not used.
Any ideas on how to improve the picture quality? I presume its going to be a case of waiting for Doogee or some developers to take this device on to update the firmware......
Thanks

It would be great... Camera performance is the main issue of the device. On the other hand, all the other features are quite well
Sorry to put this query here. Even i haven't got any place to right it down. I also have a same problem. Rear camera not working. Bought this phone specially for camera specifications. When will be the updates release to make the second rear camera work. Even 8 MP Nokia camera takes better picture than this 16 MP. And there are many bugs. Many apps crashes. And on YouTube I have seen many videos which shows many camera app showing 4k video recording option, but I think that was after update and I still haven't received it.i show that video 1 month back.
New update from company has improved the camera lil bit. But still not a usable one. And it keeps on hunting for focus in video.
From morning all Google apps are getting closed by itself. Please help to solve the issue in mix 2
no updates have improved the camera on this phone for me so far. Taking photos of static images is ok - maybe 6/10, if I use whatsapp to take a photo of anything it always appears very soft and a little blurred. If I try to take a photo of my cat.....no chance, the shutter is so slow, unless the object doesnt move at all you cant capture the image. I do like the phone and previously havent been bothered about camera specs, but that was when all my previous phones could take decent pictures. This might be the reason I get rid of this phone in a few months, it turns out a decent camera is a must for me - I was spoilt with my Oppo find 7, which had an incredible camera
