I hit 120 degrees F every time I play Angry Birds and it's very concerning for me.
The phone gets super hot right next to the capacitive buttons and not where the battery is, which means the processor is the culprit.

mine hit 160 and exploded! too bad i ddnt take a screenshot. :O

Its that data constantly demanding action. If you get by your house and click on your wifi it wont get nearly as hot. By the way. What temp app is that? Can you change the color?

I added it so he does not think it is the only android phones that do this.
Dial *#*#INFO#*#* then select Battery Information, TELL us how many degrees it is, then we can tell you if it's normal or not.
Ask in the nexus s forum...
My battery temperature went from 29C to 39C after about 30min of playing games.
Other information:
Level: from 30 to 19
Scale:100
Health: good
Voltage: from 3721mV to 3675mV (is this meant to change?)

Q - Heat during charging

got my brand new shiny sensation this morning - put it on charge and it got extreemly hot ,.... ive ended up sending it back to amazon and gone down to my local 3 store and purchased one from there ....... (Not had much luck this week as i have had 2 x galaxy s2 which were horrendous poor speaker and screen rubbish so i ended up sacking that idea off and went for the sensation and the one arrived and this appeared faulty) question is was i just unlucky or is there a heat problem ... it was that bad i couldnt get the sim out and the phone switched off ... ive not put my new one on charge yet as i want to be in when i do just in case
any idea;s ...
great phone btw ... not as quick but at least i can put stuff on memory card direct without it corrupting and i dont need software to update the firmware like you do on samsung ....
Mine doesn't get hot, maybe slightly warm would be the term.
My phone got so hot on the 3rd or 4th charge that I burnt my hand on it, it was charging overnight but battery was still empty in the morning so I returned it and the new one seems ok so far
Sent from my HTC Sensation Z710e using XDA Premium App
ive never really had a heat problem , it gets warm if ive been using it heavily and then put in pocket ,but most of time it goes away in a few minutes
depends on the day. If its a hot day out, charging gets to like 104 degrees, on a cool day, it will stay in the upper 90S. Like 97 degrees.
Mines been a lil warm lately, so I hard reset it and it seems much better. Must have been a app it didnt like.
my was mega hot ... i couldnt even take out my sim ... i got one from 3 and have it on charge its cold ... which is good
it was a little hot when i had the screen on , obviously there was a fault with the one from amazon
cheers all
My case got pretty hot the first day that I had it, but I was using it heavily and charging it at the same time. Since then it only seems to warm up when i'm playing games. It's almost as if some of the components needed to "burn in" or something like that. It makes sense in my twisted head but it doesn't.
My new phoneI I got yesterday don't get hot at all. I was gaming and and charging yesterday the highest it went was 37.7c .. my previous sensation while never overheated. Stayed between 38' and 45'.

Any of you claiming it doesn't *FEEL* hot, put it on the charger and browse the web for a few minutes then go to phone and put in *#*#4636#*#* and click battery... mine hit 43C... Idle its still 28C which is about 7 higher than my G2x and my G2x while playing Pinball HD on the charger only hits 36C... HUGE difference and a LiIon battery hitting that high - it can explode at 55-60. Pretty much means overclocking is out of the question.

I had this issue. But I found the cause.
I used a duel usb charger and it made my sensation and wildfire warm around 40 degrees celcius. So I switched the usb adapter supplied by HTC and doesn't go above 34 degrees c

just got my new sensation and discovered that charging/overheating problem.
for me the problem seems to be the charger itself. phone doesn't charges from it and gets crazy hot INSTANTLY. and when i'm unplugging charger inpanic, phone gets restarted.
Nevertheless, it changes fine from USB or my old Desire charger using the same cable from sensation package.
so, original charger seems to be broken.
(don't actually want to try in on my old, but still much more alive Desire)

[q] o3d on fire !

guys when i weak up i saw my phone on fire !!! it was burn like the hell !!!!! what can i do ? i cant open it !!!
with roote phone is out of guarantee ?
Well...basically yes, root = out of warranty. Especially in this case i could imagine them blaming the sw customizations for overheating/burned phone. (if there is anything left that can be read)
Can you post pictures of the phone? From where did it start to burn, what is left of your phone?
Mine was rooted the one I sent back stuck on LG boot logo I still got a replacement from the place I had it.
if it was really burning they won't find out that it was rooted.
i guess it was a charging malfunction.
devices can overheat and break but never start to burn.
only the battery itself could overheat so much. so i think it was a malfunction of the battery or your charging device....
but pictures would be nice
and don't worry you'll get a new one be happy that you noticed it early enough
when i sayed burned i meaned extremly hot . i burned my hand ... now is ok (after 1 hour in aircondition) and battary on 0% . but now my phone smell like a burned plastic ... its imposible to speak on the phone . it smells really really bad
What the hell did you installed to your phone? Performance pack? Or were you using an aftermarket power adapter.
Ah is that the original battery, the one that came with the phone?

That's troublesome, root isn't the cause, I can bet on it, it wasn't in the sun or anything? otherwise it sounds like a defect, mine hardly even heats up when charging unless I'm actively using it at the same time with a heavy workload like games or 3D stuff. If it's a defect lets just hope it's a one of and not a design flaw :/
it wasnt on sun ... it was on a room with aircondition with 19 degrees
19 Degrees.. Where are you from bro

Sensation got really got while idle under my pillow.

While I sleep I used to keep my phone under my pillow until this happened. Some night I went to bed with 50-60% battery and woke up with phone gone off cause of battery drain. It was very strange for me it has happened 3-4 times and I didn't pay much attention to it. Last night I went to bed with 50-60% battery again and put my phone under my pillow. In the morning I heard battery empty sound alert and I decided to check what is going on. The moment I sticked my hand under the pillow to get my phone I felt huge amount of heat it was very hot under my pillow and the phone was 5-6% battery left and it was very very very hot I even scared for a moment that something might melt my old battery got to 50 degrees and I think the phone wasn't that hot. The only thing I did was remove the rubber case and put it on the charger and leave it near my bed and it was okay. But that heating was really strong and it scared me a bit do you have any clues what might have caused it. Now the facts:
Position of phone: I think the phone was just under my head (trough the pillow) and I've might be lying like that for a long time.

You put it under your pillow (no ventilation), and you're surprised that your phone heats up excessively?
Excessive heat negatively affects battery performance. It's really that simple.
Your head may be causing some attenuation causing the phone to hunt for a signal, in turn leading to more heat and decreased battery life. Why on earth do you want to sleep with your phone underneath your head?
I've put my phone in bed before and I've noticed if the phone gets covered with a blanket or pillow it will heat up very very hot! However, I've NOT had the battery drain issue. This seems strange. Perhaps the battery is failing? I wish you luck! Hope you get this figured out!

I don't think its the best idea to have the phone directly under your head all night..

Why do you place your phone under the pillow? It is detrimental to health on the long run.

You're link disproves your statement. Just saying. Radio waves don't have any link to cancer.

1. Go into settings, sound and uncheck pocket mode or whatever it is called. Could be the cause of the battery drain. 2. Also are you running any apps that cause sensors to be on persistantly?
You moving around and such in your sleep could be why, if one or both of my points apply to you.
That being said.. how about putting it beside your bed instead. Lol.

Without any form of ventilation to cool the phone off, and increased battery usage because your signal is most likely very bad under there, you are surprised it gets hot?

I believe it's fine so long as you turn on Aeroplane mode which disables the radio and so there are no radio signals going through which is what I do.
Also, I don't find the phone heats up, might get a bit warm but not to the extent that OP is describing.

I never mentioned a sore bum
Well of course my first thought was it doesn't cool properly. But I wasn't sure the phone doesn't have any cooling or anything like that and if you put your nokia under the pillow it wont get hot or it never happened with my Samsung Omnia. It could be some other reason and just a coincidence that it was under my pillow. are you sure the if the phone is trapped under the pillow it can't cool properly because it doesn't have any fans or anything like that.
After thorough investigation I found a solution to your problem. Here it is:
Don't put your phone under your pillow.

Same here ==; i notice this with processor intensive tasks. Like hot. Really hot. even though my case but no problems.... yet....
Such as "Wheres my water" I think that game gets my phone really hot because of the physics involved with the water etc
HTc one x overheating
Ive had same overheating issue with Galaxy s2 on ICS 4.03 and with the same games played on HTC ONE X, i've got same overheating near camera n top screen.
I dont think this issue is phone specific
I guess some games and apps are are not optimized for ICS 4.03, coz same games didn't overheat my galaxy s2 on GB 2.3.6.
Its very annoying but hope there is a fix soon.
Had some slight overheating as well. What really got me was that the top was pretty hot when i touched it, but when i touched the bottom it was nice and cool lol
